She was a member of South Hartsville Baptist Church and was retired from Sonoco Products Co. Surviving are her husband, George W. Privette of Hartsville, SC; son, David Taylor (Mary) Stephens of Murrells Inlet, SC; daughters, Amy Stephens (Randy) Mixon of Hartsville, SC, Linda Sue Stephens of Hartsville, SC; brother, Major Manning Taylor of Latta, SC; stepson, Timothy Privette of Hartsville, SC; granddaughters, Whitney Stephens, Alicia Mixon, Hillary Mixon, Kelly Morrison; grandsons, Christopher Privette, Hunter Privette, Jason Privette, Jeff Privette; 3 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, David Howard Stephens; stepsons, George Wayne Privette, Lynn Jefferson Privette; brothers, Carroll Taylor, Chester Taylor, Lafon Taylor, Smith Taylor; grandson, Jeffrey Taylor Stephens.

Mr. Hulsey, widower of Carolyn Mims Hulsey, died Tuesday, August 10, 2010. Born in Darlington Co., SC, he was a son of the late Thomas Monroe and Mamie Morris Hulsey. He served his country in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Navy. He was retired as an electrician. Surviving are his son, Charles "Chucky" Marshall of Hartsville, SC; daughter, Lori Dixon of Hartsville, SC; grandchildren, Heather Michelle Dixon, Lauren Ashley Dixon, Alexis Nichole Marshall, Austin Dylan Marshall, Damien Michael Dixon, Navaeh Leigh Edwards.

Mary Ellen Gainey Weatherford

Funeral services for Mary Ellen Gainey Weatherford, 87, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 13, 2010 at The Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Ed Griggs and the Rev. Robert Turner will officiate with burial in Cedar Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Weatherford, widow of George Weatherford, died Wednesday, August 11, 2010. Born in Chesterfield Co., SC, she was a daughter of the late Lawrence and Carrie Lewis Gainey. Surviving are her sons, Gladd Gainey, Jr. of Chesterfield, SC, Johnny Lee Gainey of Hartsville, SC; daughters, Annie Harrison of Morven, NC, Irene Williams of Chesterfield, SC, Frances Rivers of Jacksonville, FL; sisters, Dorothy Gearld of Williamsburg, KY, Maggie Gainey of McBee, SC; brothers, Clyde Gainey of Hartsville, SC, Wade H. Gainey of Patrick, SC; sisters, Dorothy Gearld of Williamsburg, KY, Maggie Gainey of McBee, SC; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren; 3 special friends.

Elizabeth "Lib" Anderson Watts

November 6th, 1929 - August 14th, 2010

Graveside services for Elizabeth “Lib” Anderson Watts, 80, will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, August 16, 2010 at Magnolia Cemetery, 140 S. Cedar Lane, Hartsville, SC. The Rev. Ed Griggs will officiate and Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home is serving the family. Mrs. Watts, widow of the late Henry Russell Watts, died Saturday, August 14, 2010. Born in Pageland, SC, she was a daughter of the late Whiteford and Maggie Anderson. She was a charter member of Morton Presbyterian Church in Hartsville. Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Debbie Watts of Chapin, SC; granddaughter, Ashley Watts Cox of Atlanta, GA. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Bud and Javann Anderson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Morton Presbyterian Church, 1068 Morton Circle, Hartsville, SC 2955.

Thurston P. Stuckey

August 18th, 1926 - August 15th, 2010

Funeral services for Thurston Parrott Stuckey, 83, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at First Baptist Church. The Rev. Ryan Goodroe and the Rev. Aubrey Floyd will officiate with burial in Magnolia Cemetery directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Monday from 5-7 p.m. at the residence, 1817 Clarkston Dr. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, 104 East Home Avenue, Hartsville, SC 29550, or to the charity of one's choice. Mr. Stuckey died Sunday, August 15, 2010. Born in Lee Co., SC, he was a son of the late Dwight Charles and Blanche Gallman Stuckey. He was a member of First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and was a member of the Men’s Brotherhood and the Steadfast Sunday School class. Thurston was an avid outdoorsman and especially enjoyed hunting and fishing with his grandsons. He loved all sports, but especially football, baseball, and basketball, as a player and a fan. He had a special place in his heart for the Clemson Tigers. Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Margie Connell Stuckey of Hartsville, SC; sons and daughters-in-law, Dwight Clyde (Mary Catherine) Stuckey of Hartsville, SC, Mark Thurston (Frances) Stuckey of Columbia, SC; grandchildren, Mary Knight Stuckey of Hartsville, SC, Josh Stuckey of Hartsville, SC, Caroline Stuckey of Columbia, SC, Elizabeth Stuckey of Columbia, SC, Cam Stuckey of Columbia, SC. Our appreciation to the Agape Hospice staff and a special acknowledgement to James Gainey. Also, our thanks to Dr. Bell and his staff and to our friend Harold.

Ben V. Shaw

February 10th, 1928 - August 14th, 2010

Graveside services for Ben Vance Shaw, Jr., 82, will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at Kelleytown Baptist Church Cemetery. The Rev. Lin Kirkman will officiate and Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home is serving the family. Mr. Shaw died Saturday, August 14, 2010. Born in Darlington Co., SC, he was a son of the late Ben Vance and Mary Gardner Shaw. He was retired as owner and operator of Shaw's Auto and was a World War II veteran who served in the Philippines. He was a member of Hartsville Masonic Lodge # 173, Scottish Rite, Omar Shrine, Jolly Jeepsters and Eastern Star. Surviving are his sister, Betty Merck of Columbia, SC; brothers and sisters-in-law, Billy and Aggie Shaw, Alex "Buz" and Ann Shaw, all of Hartsville, SC.

Sybil Stewart

April 1st, 1918 - August 15th, 2010

Mrs. Sybil H. Stewart, 92, of 3644 Vapor Rd., Hartsville, SC, died Sunday, August 15, 2010. She was the daughter of the late George and Fannie Hatchell of Effingham, SC. She is survived by her husband, James O. Stewart; sons, Jimmy (Camilla) Stewart of Hartsville, SC, Frank Stewart of Aiken, SC; daughters, Rebecca (Don) Babson of Hopkins, SC, Lynn (Greg) van Liew of Atlanta, GA; 2 grandsons; 2 granddaughters; 7 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brothers, William, Leo and Carroll Hatchell; sisters, Nora Lee Rose and Georgia Mae West. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 18, 2010 at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church of Lydia, SC. The Rev. Valerie Mireb will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church fellowship hall. Memorials may be made to Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, PO Box 56, Lydia, SC 29079, where she was a longtime member. She was very active in her church and community and will be missed by all who knew her. Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home is serving the family.

James Campbell

The family will receive friends Friday, August 20, 2010 from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the McLeod Hospice House, 1203 East Cheves Street, Florence, SC 29506. Mr. Campbell died Wednesday, August 18, 2010. Born in Darlington Co., SC, he was a son of the late James Columbus and Ellen Rodgers Campbell. He was married to his loving wife for 47 years, and was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He served his country in the United States Army, had a love of gardening, and was an avid fisherman. He will miss his beloved dog, “Spotty Girl.” Surviving are his wife, Jewel Adams Campbell of Hartsville, SC; son, Kenneth Lee Campbell of Hartsville, SC; daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl and Scott Gainey of Hartsville, SC, Michele and Curt Crowley of Hartsville, SC; sisters, Tena Cassidy of Patrick, SC, Sara Youmans of Hartsville, SC; grandchildren, Chase Gainey, Kia Gainey, Dylan Crowley, Dustin Crowley. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jacky Campbell; sister, Ann Steen.

Earl D. Richardson

Mr. Richardson died Wednesday, August 18, 2010. Born in Marion Co., SC, he was a son of the late Pearlie and Georgia Martin Richardson. He was an active member of Wesley United Methodist Church. He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II, retired from Sonoco Products Company, and was the former owner of Yogi Bear Honey Fried Chicken. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Jewel Perritt Richardson of Hartsville, SC; daughters, Janice (Cliff) Gibson of Flowery Branch, GA, Dianne (Danny) Wright of Summerville, SC, Cheryl Gibson of Hartsville, SC; sister, Margaret Collins of Mullins, SC; grandchildren, Allison (Jonathan) Burgess of Cumming, GA, Elizabeth (Michael) Johnson of Canton, GA, Wes (Kali) Knight of Hartsville, SC, Dan (Jennifer) Wright of Summerville, SC, Kathleen Gibson of Atlanta, GA; 5 great-grandsons.

Yvonne "Bonnie" Dixon Hoffman

The family will receive friends Friday, August 20, 2010 from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Hoffman, widow of J. B. Hoffman, died Thursday, August 19, 2010. Born in Darlington Co., SC, she was a daughter of the late Gary B. and Norenia Carroll Dixon. She was retired as a secretary with the Hartsville Oil Mill. Surviving are her son, Keven Hoffman of Hartsville, SC; brother and sister-in-law, Gary L. and Betty Jean Dixon of Florence, SC; grandchild, Ryan Hoffman.

Tracy Van Gainey

Born in Darlington Co., SC, he was a son of the late Leroy Gainey and the late Myrtle Warr Gainey Beasley. He was a member of West Hartsville Baptist Church, and was a loving and caring father and brother who will be greatly missed. Surviving are his son, Trey (Danielle) Watkins of Florence, SC; daughters, Ashley (Nick) Sportiello of Florence, SC, Stacy Gainey of Hartsville, SC; sister, Joyce (Earl) Smith of Hartsville, SC; brother, Raymond L. (Rena) Gainey of Hartsville; numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his brother, Shelton Gainey.

Edith Woodham Howle

Mrs. Howle, widow of Lindsay Fuller Howle, died Thursday, August 19, 2010. Born in Darlington Co., SC, she was a daughter of the late M. Josey and Nan Reynolds Woodham. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and was a member of the choir since 1938. Surviving are her daughter and sons-in-law, Nan and Lee Thomas of Ridgeway, SC, Eric R. Byrd of Sumter, SC; nephew, Tom Howle of Asheville, SC; grandchildren, Meredith Thomas Morrow, Carson Thomas, Lindsay Byrd Keith, Lauren Byrd Black; 7 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Lynne Byrd.
