Rev. Francis ‘Sonny’ Gossett
LANCASTER — The Rev. Frances Huit “Sonny” Gossett, 70, of 1077 Snow Drive, husband of Ruth Stone Gossett, passed away Feb. 8, 2001, at Springs Memorial Hospital.
Born in Union, he was a son of the late George Huit and Elizabeth Whitener Gossett. A graduate of Spartanburg Junior College, Wofford College and Ashbury Seminary, he was a retired United Methodist minister, serving for more than 30 years. He served as minister at Doylesville United Methodist in Kentucky, Whitney United Methodist, Spartanburg, Central United Methodist, Laurens, Monaghan United Methodist and Christ and Holroyd United Methodist, both in Greenville, Zion United Methodist, Lancaster, and Mathews United Methodist in Greenwood. He was a member and Pastor Emeritus of Zion United Methodist Church. He was also a Mason, a Shriner and sang in several gospel quartets.
Survivors include his wife of the home; a son, Mark A. Gossett of Leesville; a daughter, Cynthia Smith of Rock Hill; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 3 Sunday at Zion United Methodist Church, conducted by the Revs. Frank Lybrand, Curtis Cameron and David Nichols. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation is from 6-8 tonight at Hartley Funeral Home, 1800 Charlotte Highway. Memorials may be made to Zion United Methodist Church Building Fund, 1665 Zion Road, Lancaster, S.C. 29720.

Ruby Childs Griffin
GREENWOOD — Ruby Childs Griffin, 59, of 320 Milwee St., passed away Feb. 9, 2001, at Self Memorial Hospital.
Born in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of the late Richard Childs and Mary Ellen Jackson. She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include two daughters, Emma Lee Childs and Rachael Victoria Childs, both of Greenwood; two sons, Bruce Theodore Childs and Tony Andrew Griffin, both of Greenwood; three grandchildren, two reared in the home, Steve Alexander Childs and Ashia Tameka Price.
The family is at the home and at the home of a son, Tony Andrew Griffin, 912 Spring St. Services will be announced by Robinson and Son Mortuary Inc., which is in charge.

Eugene L. Prince
McCORMICK — Services for Eugene L. Prince, of Route 2, will be at 2 Sunday at New Hope Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. J.C. Williams, Derricy Scott, Albert Bell and James Louden III. The body will be placed in the church at 1. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers are grandsons and nephews.
Flower bearers are granddaughters.
The family is at the home.

Marion Lillian Ropp
CALHOUN FALLS — Marion Lillian Waits Ropp, 83, of 900 Savannah St., wife of Charles W. Ropp, passed away Feb. 8, 2001.
Born in Greenwood, she was a daughter of the late Robert Sidney and Lillian Louise Ethridge Waits. She was a homemaker and a member of Calhoun Falls First Baptist Church, the Friendship Sunday School Class and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors include her husband; a stepdaughter, Mrs. David (Lynda) Leopard of West Columbia; and three step-grandchildren.
Services will be at 3 Sunday at Calhoun Falls Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Frank Duncan. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Abbeville.
Visitation is from 2-3 Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Calhoun Falls First Baptist Church.

William ‘Bill’ Smith
HONEA PATH — William “Bill” Perry Smith, 80, of 215-A Goodrich St., widower of Louise Crawford Smith, passed away Feb. 9, 2001, at Anderson Area Medical Center.
Born in Anderson County, he was a son of the late Jesse and Irene Pitts Smith. A World War II Army veteran, he formerly worked in Greenwood and retired from Chiquola Manufacturing Co. He was a member of Little River Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. John (Linda) Coleman of Honea Path; a brother, Alton Smith of Honea Path; a sister, Dorothy Atkins of Honea Path; four grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.
Services will be conducted by the Rev. Charles Fuller at 3 Sunday at Little River Baptist Church. Burial will be in Eastview Cemetery.
Visitation is from 1:30-2:30 Sunday at the church.
The family is at the home of his daughter, 215 Goodrich St.
Memorials may be made to Little River Baptist Church Building Fund, 2847 Keowee Road, Honea Path, S.C. 29654.

Mary Uldrick
ABBEVILLE — Mary Link Uldrick, 80, of McCormick Health Care Center, formerly of 3108 Highway 20, widow of James Earle Uldrick, passed away Feb. 9, 2001, at the health care center.
Born in Abbeville County, she was a daughter of the late Lindsay and Maggie Stevenson Link. She was a retired seamstress from Abbeville Shirtmakers, a homemaker and a member of Bethlehem ARP Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Sandra U. Erwin of Abbeville; five sisters, Margaret Ashley of Calhoun Falls, Sara L. Uldrick, Frances Baughman and Marion Wilson, all of Abbeville and Amanda Ethridge of Hartwell, Ga.; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be conducted by the Rev. George Busch at 3 Sunday at Harris Funeral Home. Burial will be in Long Cane Cemetery.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.
The family is at the home of Langdon A. and Sandra Erwin, 3108 Highway 20, Abbeville. Memorials may be made to HospiceCare of the Piedmont, 408 W. Alexander Ave., Greenwood, S.C. 29646 or New Hope Presbyterian Church, 1484 Highway 28 Bypass, Abbeville, S.C. 29620.

Freddie Holloway
EDGEFIELD — Freddie Holloway, 68, of Hwy. 25 N., passed away Feb. 8, 2001, at Pepper Hill Nursing Center.
Born in Edgefield County, he was the son of Josie Mae Holloway Moore of Edgefield. He was a logger.
Survivors include five brothers, J.C. Holloway of Greenwood, George E. Moore of Johnston, William Moore, Calvin Moore and Bernard Moore, all of Edgefield; three sisters, Thelma Holloway, Ruby Pearl White and Doris Turner, all of Edgefield.
Services will be at 2 Tuesday at Springfield Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Randy Holloway. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may call the residence or G.L. Brightharp & Sons Mortuary.

Matthew Tim Leopard
WARE SHOALS — Matthew “Matt” Tim Leopard, 16, of 29 North Greenwood Ave. Ext. F5, son of Ronnie Leopard of Honea Path and Christal Leopard of Ware Shoals, passed away Feb. 9, 2001, at his home.
Services will be announced by Parker-White Funeral Home, which is in charge.

Katherine H. Malone
WARE SHOALS — Katherine Hall “Beaufort” Malone, 75, widow of William H. Malone, of 46 Fairview Ave., passed away Feb. 9, 2001, at Self Memorial Hospital.
Born in Abbeville County, she was a daughter of the late Marshall and Eva Beauford Hall. She was retired from Warner Lambert. She was a member and deacon of Ware Shoals Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Sandra M. Taylor of Greenwood and Joyce M. Cobb of Ware Shoals; four grandchildren and four great-grandsons.
Services will be at 3 today at Ware Shoals Pentecostal Holiness Church, conducted by the Revs. Mark Kennedy and Leon Jones. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Visitation is from 1:30 to 2:30 today at Parker-White Funeral Home.
The family is at the home of Joyce and Buddy Cobb, 17656 Highway 25 N.
Memorials may be made to Ware Shoals Pentecostal Holiness Church, Ware Shoals.

Mary Lou Perry
MCCORMICK — Mary Lou Perry, 58, of 256 Brassie Dr., wife of Jack Perry, passed away Feb. 8, 2001, at her home.
Born in North Canton, Ohio, she was a secretary for JPC Quality Homes and tour director for Lakeland and Globus Travel.
She was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church. She had lived in Savannah Lake Village for the past nine years.
Survivors include a son, Jeff Mathias of Doylestown, Ohio; two step-daughters, Devonda Thompson and Karen Thompson, both of North Canton, Ohio; four brothers, Anthony Venditti of Navarre, Ohio, Paul, Richard and Frank Venditti, all of North Canton, Ohio; three sisters, Caroline Guizdale of Younstown, Ohio, Rose Harrison and Josephine Filcraft, both of Canton, Ohio; and six grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held in Cape Cod, Mass. at a later date.
Beggs Funeral Home, Lincolnton, Ga., is in charge.

Elijah Pettigrew
ABBEVILLE — Elijah Pettigrew, 80, passed away Feb. 7, 2001, at Richard County Memorial Hospital.
Born in Abbeville County, he was a son of the late Mary Ann Pettigrew. He retired from CSX Railroad and was a member of Flat Rock AME Church.
Survivors include a brother, James Harris Pettigrew of Columbia; and three sisters, Gussie Johnson of Abbeville, Katherine Golphin of Augusta, Ga., and Julia Ann Young of Atlanta.
Services will be at noon Monday at Brown and Walker Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by Rev. Willie Belcher. Burial will be in Frost Lawn Memory Gardens.
The family is at the home of a sister, Gussie Johnson, 109 Pettigrew St., Abbeville. Brown and Walker Funeral Home is in charge.

Margaret Greer Bagwell
BELTON — Margaret Greer Bagwell, 82, widow of Jerry Bagwell, passed away Feb. 9, 2001. A daughter of the late Will and Lillie Sullivan Greer, she was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church. She retired from Metric Shirt in Belton.
Survivors include a daughter, Linda Bagwell Pierce of Belton; a sister, Ruth Milford of Ware Shoals; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were Sunday in Shady Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, conducted by Dr. John Benson and the Rev. Carl Lindsey.
The family is at the home of Linda Pierce, 2921 Shady Grove Road. Cox Funeral Home was in charge.

Carter Lee Bishop
TAYLORS — Carter Lee Bishop, 63, of 300 Brook Glen Road, passed away Feb. 8, 2001. Born in Greenwood, he was a son of the late Eugene H. “Buck” and Marie Gregory Bishop.
He was manager of the Baby Register at Babies R Us and was a former store manager for Meyers Arnold Co. He was a member of Edwards Road Baptist Church and a former member and director of membership of the Greenville Jaycees. He had served in the Army Reserves.
Survivors include three daughters, Teresa Cothran and Lisa Gregory, both of Greenville and Tracie Roman of San Antonio; three brothers, Buck Bishop and Ronnie Bishop, both of Taylors and Michael Bishop of Greer; and four grandchildren.
Services were Sunday at the Garden of Faith Mausoleum at Woodlawn Memorial Park, conducted by Father Phil Edge.
Memorials may be made to the Greenville Jaycees Foundation, 7530 White Horse Road, Greenville, S.C. 29611 or Goodwill Industries, 352 White Horse Road, Greenville, S.C. 29605.
The Mackey Mortuary was in charge.

Dorothy Corbett
NEWBERRY — Dorothy Senn Corbett, 84, of the Presbyterian Home of South Carolina, passed away Feb. 6, 2001.
Born in Silverstreet, she was a daughter of the late Dr. Hugh Boozer Senn and Mecie Timmerman Senn. She was a retired employee of the S.C. Department of Health and a member of Eastminster Presbyterian Church of Columbia.
Survivors include two sons, Thomas R. Corbett of Bayonne, N.J., and Hugh Corbett of Columbia; and a sister, Virginia Hassell of Athens.
Family graveside services were held Friday in Rosemont Cemetery.

Cecil Davis
GRANITEVILLE — Cecil “Slim” Davis, 83, husband of Edith Rains Davis, passed away Feb. 10, 2001.
Born in Ridge Spring, he was a son of the late John W. and Carrie Preston Davis. He was a World War II Army veteran and a retired mechanic with S.C. Department of Transportation.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Joyce Chandler, Dovie Yonn and Susan Greene; two sons, Buddy Davis and J.D. Davis; a sister, Alma Craig; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 3 today at Napier Funeral Home.
Visitation is from 2-3 today at the funeral home.
Napier Funeral Home is in charge.
