Katherine H. Massey
COLUMBIA — Katherine Hammond Massey, 97, formerly of Rock Hill, widow of Reese M. Massey Sr., passed away Feb. 21, 2001.
Born in Abbeville, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Mae Palmer Hammond. She was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, the Rev. Reese Massey Jr.; three grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.
Services will be at 3 today at St. John’s United Methodist Church, with burial in Ebenezer Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
Visitation is from 2-3 at the church.

Walter Middleton
TROY — Walter Middleton, 81, formerly of Rt. 1, passed away Feb. 23, 2001, at Self Memorial Hospital in Greenwood.
Born in the Willington section of McCormick County, he was a son of the late Frank and Easter Williams Middleton. He attended McCormick County Public Schools and was a member of Little Mill Baptist Church. He also was a retired pulp wood handler.
Survivors include three sisters, Willie Mae Parker of Troy; Lula Jane Middleton of McCormick and Viola Beckham of Philadelphia.
The family is at the home of his sister Willie Mae in Troy.
Services will be announced by Walker Funeral Home of McCormick, which is in charge.

Billy Busbee
ABBEVILLE — George William “Billy” Busbee, 76, of 203 George St., husband of Alice Belle King Busbee, passed away Feb. 23, 2001.
Born in Greenwood, he was a son of the late William Howard and Georgia Hughes Busbee. He was a World War II Army veteran, a retired employee of Bigelow Sanford, Rocky River Plant, and a member of Grace United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two daughters, Mary Alice Little of Coral Springs, Fla., and Merry B. Cox of Due West; two sons, George William Busbee Jr. of Troy and Lee King Busbee of Calhoun Falls; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 2 Monday in Melrose Cemetery.
Visitation is at the cemetery after the services.
The family is at the home.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Abbeville Chapter, c/o Mrs. Conway W. Shirley, P.O. Box 566, Due West, S.C. 29639.

Chadwick LaMar Chiles III
GREENVILLE — Chadwick LaMar Chiles III, infant son of JaQuetta Chappell and Chadwick Chiles, passed away Feb. 20, 2001, at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
Survivors include his parents of Greenville; maternal grandparents, Jacquelyn W. and Tommy Chappell of Greenwood; maternal great-grandparents, Mary Woolridge, Lem Jackson, Gladys Byrd and Roosevelt Chappell, all of Greenwood; maternal great-great-grandmother, Mahilda Mims of Greenwood; paternal grandfather, Willie Moss of Laurens; paternal great-grandmothers, Effie R. Chiles and Mary Moss, both of Troy.
Graveside services will be at 1 Monday in Oakbrook Memorial Park, Greenwood.

Sallie Mae Jackson
GREENWOOD — Services for Sallie Mae Jackson, of 402 Windmill Circle, will be conducted by the Rev. J.T. Tate at 3 today at Pleasant Lane Baptist Church, Edgefield County. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers are Leroy White, Wilbur Jackson Jr., Michael Jackson, John Jackson, Edward Jackson and Amos Jackson.
Flower bearers are Jeanette Price, Tammy Jackson, Shuntel Brown, Cynthia Jackson, Ruby Harling, Anna Ross and Carolyn Jackson.
The family is at the home.

Rev. Morris J. Jones Sr.
NINETY SIX — The Rev. Morris J. Jones Sr., 64, of 2820 Ninety Six Highway, husband of Marilyn Wilson Jones, passed away Feb. 24, 2001, at his home.
Born in Bowman, Ga., he was a son of Geneva Hall Jones and the late James Randolph Jones. He was a minister and a retired employee of Moore Business Forms. An Army veteran of the Korean conflict, he was a member of Bethlehem United Church, Waterloo, and the church Associate Outreach Ministries.
Survivors include his wife of the home; his mother of Waterloo; two sons, Morris J. Jones Jr. of Ninety Six and Shane Jones of Hodges; a daughter, Janet Manley of Laurens; a stepson, Clint Woods of Greenwood; three sisters, Mrs. Jimmy (Rachel) McAllister of Waterloo, Mrs. J.T. (Edna) Holloway of Bradley and Mrs. Sonny (Jane) Haynes of Greenwood; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 3:30 Monday at Harley Funeral Home, Greenwood, conducted by the Revs. Gene Davis, Ben Edwards and Bobby Davis. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Ninety Six.
Pallbearers are Jeff Burton, Scott Christopher, Jeff Christopher, Scott Holloway, Roger McAllister, Randy McAllister, Jason McAllister, Kenny McElroy and Roger Lee McAllister.
Honorary escorts are deacons and wives of Bethlehem Union Church, along with Dr. Jeff Lanford, Dr. Burnett, Dr. Preston Turner, Dr. Joe Stevenson, Dr. Gerald King and security officers of Self Memorial Hospital.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.
The family is at the home.

Archie T. Mauldin
WINNSBORO — Archie T. Mauldin, 68, widower of Lelia Mae Horne Mauldin, passed away Feb. 24, 2001.
Born in McCormick County, he was a son of the late Archie Tyra and Mary Bolden Mauldin.
He served as an airman first class during the Korean conflict and was of the Baptist faith. A retired electrician with power plant maintenance at Bowater Corp., he was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 25, Greenwood.
Survivors include a son, Terry Mauldin of Winnsboro; and two brothers, Charles Mauldin of Seneca and Alfred Mauldin of Pittsburgh.
Services will be conducted by the Rev. William Morgan at 1 Tuesday at Pope Funeral Home. Burial will be at 4 in Greenwood Memorial Gardens, Greenwood.
Visitation is from 6-8 Monday at the funeral home.
Pope Funeral Home is in charge.

Mary E. Moore
GREENWOOD — Services for Mary Emma Williams Moore, of 807 Phoenix St., will be conducted by the Rev. Leroy Robertson at 1 today at Second Damascus Baptist Church.
Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 12:30.
Pallbearers are Daryl Goode, Perry Washington , Odell Moton, Willie Williams, Eric Morton, Anthony Moore and L.D. Parks.
Flower bearers are Willie Mae Carter, Phyllis Sanders, Clara Dendy and Mary Williams. Honorary escorts are the missionaries of the church and members of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Guy Nichols
GREENWOOD — Cecil Guy Nichols Sr., 92, of 1014 Pine Forest Drive, widower of Augusta Springfield Nichols, passed away Feb. 24, 2001, at Self Memorial Hospital.
Born in Lexington County, he was a son of the late Tilman Sidney and Nettie Lee Shealy Nichols. He graduated from Lexington County schools, attended Wofford College and retired from the South Carolina Public Service Commission. A member of South Main Street Baptist Church, he was a deacon and member of the Baraca Sunday School Class of the church.
Survivors include a daughter, Carol J. Mitchell of Hampton, Ga.; two sons, Cecil G. “Nick” Nichols Jr. and Steven Phillip Nichols Sr., both of Greenwood; tree sisters, Miriam N. Burton of Ninety Six, Novice N. Johnson of Greenville and Mozelle N. Dennis of Greenwood; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 4 today at Blyth Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Dave Patterson and the Rev. Ryan Eklund. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are grandsons.
Honorary escorts are members of the Baraca Sunday School Class of South Main Street Baptist Church.
Visitation is from 3-4 today at the funeral home.
The family is at the home of Nick and Julia Nichols, 124 Crescent Road.

CHAPPELLS — John B. “Mutt” Price, 72, of Route 2, Half Way Swamp Road, widower of Ruby Nell Butler Price, passed away Feb. 23, 2001, at Saluda Nursing Center.
Born in Saluda County, he was a son of the late John Ernest and Mattie Elease Burnett Price. He was a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean conflict and a retired employee of Belmont Builders, Greenwood. He attended Hopewell Congregational Holiness Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Dorcas P. Rushton and Freda P. Glover, both of Saluda; two sons, John Glenn Price of Leesville and Gary L. Price of Greenwood; a brother, Eugene Price of Ninety Six; three sisters, Rebecca Turner of Ninety Six, Carrie Lee Gantt of Batesburg and Patricia Day of Mullins; and five grandchildren.
Services will be at 3 Sunday at Hopewell Congregational Holiness Church, conducted by the Rev. Alex Cordero and the Rev. Bill McNeill. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Donald R. Sawyer Sr.
ANDERSON — Donald Ray Sawyer Sr., 55, of 203 Walnut Ave., passed away Feb. 21, 2001, at Anderson Area Medical Center.
Born in Abbeville, he was a son of the late Charles Leonard and Inez Sawyer. An Air Force veteran and a retired truck driver, he was an ordained Baptist minister.
Survivors include two sons, Donald Ray Sawyer Jr. of Anderson, Steven Gary Sawyer of the home and Charles Aubry Rock Sawyer of Greenville, Ohio; and six grandchildren.
Services will be at 2:30 today at Calvary Baptist Church, with burial in New Silverbrook Cemetery.

Charles Henry Watkins
LOWNDESVILLE — Charles Henry Watkins, 84, of Depot Street, widower of Mildred Parnell Watkins, passed away Feb. 24, 2001, at Nancy Hart Nursing Home in Elberton, Ga.
Born in Abbeville County, he was a son of the late John Raford and Nancy Irene Watkins. He retired from Milliken Textiles, Abbeville Plant, and was a member of Smyrna United Methodist Church of Lowndesville.
Survivors include a granddaughter and four great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 1 Monday in Providence Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Lowndesville.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at Calhoun Falls Funeral Home.
The family is at the home of George and Patsy Driver, 125 North Road.

KINARDS — Cecil I. Bishop, 78, of 4429 State Highway 560, husband of Evelyne Gibson Bishop, passed away Feb. 24, 2001, at National Health Care, Clinton.
Born in Newberry County, he was a son of the late Irving V. and Mamie Merchant Bishop. He was a member of Hopewell United Methodist Church and retired from Ned Handback Inc.
Survivors include his wife the home; a daughter, Mrs. Mark (Debbie B.) Stuart of Spartanburg; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 3 today at Whitaker Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Steven King and the Rev. Tony Adams. Burial will be in Newberry Memorial Garden.

Leola Walker Brown
McCORMICK — Leola Walker Brown, 92, of 515 Brown St., widow of Henry “Tab” Brown, passed away Feb. 25, 2001, at McCormick Health Care Center. Born in McCormick, she was a daughter of the late Jasper and Lizzie Foster Walker. She was homemaker and a member of New Hope Baptist Church, the Women’s Home Aide Society No. 1, The Bethany Court, Order of the Eastern Star No. 1, and the New Hope Burial Aide Society. Survivors include four daughters, Robbie Brown of Edgefield, Mamie Brown of Hempstead, N.Y., Ada Brown of Freeport, N.Y., and Bertha Shealey of McCormick; a sister, Margaret Walker of Leesburg, Fla.; 15 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. The family is at the home. Services will be announced by Walker Funeral Home, which is in charge.
