Alvin Leon Huff
ANDERSON — Alvin Leon Huff, 76, of 302 Shackleburg Road, husband of Vernelle Bridwell Huff, passed away Feb. 25, 2001, at Greenville Memorial Medical Center.
Born in Hendersonville, N.C., he was a son of the late Cad P. and Ellen Starney Huff. He was a self-employed salesman and manufacturer of synthetic belts. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two daughters, Jean H. Yeargin of Greer and Barbara H. Collins of Greenwood; two sons, Leslie L. Huff of Atlanta and Jimmy A. Huff of Easley; a sister, Rosalee H. Spearman of Greenville; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 Tuesday at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest, with burial in Graceland Cemetery.
Visitation is from 12:30-2 Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Cancer Society of Greenville County, 113 Mills Ave., Greenville, S.C. 29605.

Pearl Pardue Jackson
AIKEN — Pearl Pardue Jackson, 94, of 3525 Augustus Road, formerly of Stiefeltown, widow of William H. Jackson, passed away Feb. 25, 2001, at Pepper Hill Nursing Center.
Born in Greenwood, she was a daughter of the late Alvin and Mary Goldman Pardue. She was a retired department store salesperson and a member of Stiefeltown Baptist Church, Warrenville.
Survivors include nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 3 today at Napier Funeral Home, Graniteville, conducted by the Rev. Dr. W.C. Lowe and the Rev. Steve Cartin. Burial will be in Sunset Memory Gardens, Graniteville.
Pallbearers are deacons of Stiefeltown Baptist Church.
Honorary pallbearers are members of the Fellowship Sunday School Class of the church. Visitation is from 1:30-2:30 today at the funeral home.

Doris Serlena Phillips
GREENWOOD — Doris Serlena Deal Phillips, 43, of 7 McGhee Court, widow of Marion Phillips, passed away Feb. 25, 2001, at the home of her mother in Bradley.
Born in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of Dorothy Hackett Deal and the late Andrew “Dutch” Deal. She was a graduate of Greenwood High School class of 1975 and Piedmont Technical College and was a floor manager at Lowe’s. She was a member of Faith Christian Center, where she was the center secretary. She was a former member of Mount Moriah Baptist Church.
Survivors include her mother of Bradley; seven brothers, Curtis Quarles, the Rev. Alvin Deal, Johnny Deal and Dennis Deal, all of Bradley, the Rev. Andrew Deal Jr. of Promised Land, Marvin Deal of Columbia and Lloyd Deal of Greenwood; four sisters, Mary Lee Dunlap of Greenwood, Prima Lee Tolbert of Bradley, Betty Jacobs of Columbia and Judy Carol Deal of Boston; and a niece reared in the home, Fontella Rhynes of Greenwood.
Services will be at 3 Wednesday at Mount Moriah Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Alvin Deal, assisted by the Rev. Raymond Adams, pastor, and the Rev. Andrew Deal Jr. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 2. Pallbearers and flower bearers are friends of the family.
Visitation is Tuesday evening at the home of her mother, Dorothy Hackett Deal, 515 Indian Road, Bradley.

Butler J. Pitts Sr.
LAURENS — Butler Jefferson Pitts Sr., 78, of 104 Stuart St., husband of Maggie P. Pitts, passed away Feb. 22, 2001, at Laurens County Hospital in Clinton.
A son of the late Russell and Fannie Evans Pitts, he was a World War II veteran and a member and deacon of Rocky Spring Baptist Church. He retired from Bal-Incon and Laurens Junior High.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Butler Jefferson Pitts Jr. of the home and Stephen C. Pitts and Darrell Keith Pitts, both of Spartanburg; a brother, the Rev. Lewis M. Pitts of Anderson; a sister, Mattie Bell Anderson of Waterloo; and four grandchildren.
Services will be conducted by the Rev. Charles Boyce at 1 Tuesday at Rocky Spring Baptist Church. The body will be placed in the church at noon. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Bob Rode Sr.
CROSS HILL — Robert John “Bob” Rode Sr., 57, of 168 Smith Irwin Road, husband of Luane Zentz Rode, passed away Feb. 25, 2001, at Self Memorial Hospital in Greenwood.
Born in Westland, Mich., he was a son of the late Edward and Violet LeGarie Rode. He formerly owned and operated Little Caesar’s Pizza in Greenwood, Laurens and Newberry.
Survivors include his wife of the home; a son, Robert Rode II of Greenwood; two daughters, Pamela Golden of Royal Oak, Mich., and Bridgette Fitzpatrick of Greenwood; a stepdaughter, Barbara Ann Rolston of Redford, Mich.; two stepsons, Michael Smith of Northville, Mich., and Robert Smith of Canton, Mich.; an adopted son, Gene Czajka of Greenwood; and 15 grandchildren.
Services will be conducted by the Rev. Frank Thomas at 3:30 Tuesday at Blyth Funeral Home, Greenwood.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.
The family is at the home of Robert Robe II, 111 Summer Hill Drive, Greenwood.
Memorials may be made to Cross Hill Fire Department, Cross Hill, S.C. 29332.

Ellen Wood Sanders
MOORE — Ellen Wood Sanders, 31, of 115 Greenridge Drive, wife of Philip Keith Sanders, passed away Feb. 23, 2001, at her home.
Born in Rock Hill, she was a daughter of Martha Teague Wood and James Springer Wood Jr. Survivors include her husband of the home; her parents of Spartanburg; a brother, Burton Springer Wood of Greenwood; and paternal grandmother, Frances Harvey Wood of Matthews, N.C.
Services will be at 2 today at the United Methodist Church of the Covenant, with burial in Good Shepherd Memorial Park, Boiling Springs.
The family is at the home of her parents, 219 Oakmont Drive, Springfield, Spartanburg.

William Eugene Abrams
ANDERSON — William Eugene Abrams, 82, of 311 Simpson Road, widower of Evelyn Barber Abrams, passed away Feb. 25, 2001, at Anderson Area Medical Center.
Born in Ware Shoals, he was a son of the late William Eugene and Agnes Abrams. He was a graduate of Erskine College and a retired teacher.
Survivors include a son, Edgar Barber “Bobby” Abrams of Lincolnton, N.C.; two brothers, Luke Abrams of Ware Shoals and Phil Abrams of Charlotte, N.C.; a sister, Wilma Dockham of Easley; four grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.
Services will be conducted by Dr. L. Thomas Richie at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Young Memorial ARP Church. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Anderson.
Visitation is from 10-11 Wednesday in front of the church.

Luis J. Diaz
BATESBURG — Luis J. “Gubie” Diaz, 3, of Route 3, passed away Feb. 24, 2001.
Born in Saluda County, he was a son of Luis Fernando Diaz and Stephanie Maria Rice Diaz.
Survivors include his parents of Batesburg; a sister, Breana Davida Diaz of the home; grandparents, Monk and Patricia Gail Gulledge of Batesburg, Timothy Lee Rice Sr. and Dibbie Rice of Leesville and Clmencia and Javier Diaz of Mexico; and great-grandparents, Linda and Marvin Gulledge, Carrie May Jones, Wanda Reed Belt and Miriam Rice, all of Batesburg.
Services will be at 3 today at Milton Shealy Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. John Griffin and the Rev. Alex Cordera. Burial will be in Ridge Crest Memorial Park.
The family is at the home of Patricia and Monk Gulledge, Beaver Dam Creek Road.

Carrie Griffin Elsmore
WHITMIRE — Carrie Griffin Elsmore, 82, of 104 Woods St., widow of Cecil Edward Elsmore, passed away Feb. 26, 2001, at National Health Care of Clinton.
Born in Newberry, she was a daughter of the late Asa Benjamin and Lucille Dickert Griffin. She retired from J.P. Stevens, Whitmire Plant.
Survivors include a son, Barry E. Elsmore of Whitmire; a bother, Asa R. Griffin of Abbeville; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 3 Wednesday at Gray Funeral Home, with burial in Whitmire Cemetery. Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.

Dr. Alton Knox
ANTREVILLE — Dr. George “Alton” Knox, 74, of 2981 Highway 284, passed away Feb. 26, 2001, at the Hospice House in Anderson.
Born in Antreville, he was a son of the late Dr. D.S. and Sadie Prince Knox. He received a veterinary degree from Auburn University in 1949 and retired as a veterinarian with the U.S. Department of Agriculture. A World War II Army veteran, he was a member of Little Mountain Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Elizabeth Surrett of Morganton, N.C.; and a grandson. Graveside services will be conducted by the Rev. John Parks at 2 Thursday in Little Mountain Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Little Mountain Presbyterian Church, 3836 Highway 28 North, Abbeville, S.C. 29620.

Angela Renae Moorman
DUNCAN — Angela Renae Moorman, 36, of 2416 Culpepper Woods Drive, passed away Feb. 24, 2001, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
She was a daughter of Willie James Moorman and Geraldine Cook.
Survivors include a daughter, Ashley Nicole Moorman of the home; her father of Cross Keys; her mother and stepfather, Milton Cook, of Woodruff; four sisters, Sharon Robinson and Pamela Gist, both of Woodruff, Patrice Geter of Duncan and Lisa Moorman of Columbus, Ohio; and four stepsisters, Mary Cook, Pamela Cook and Orleather Cook, all of Laurens and Marlinia Simpson of Waterloo.
Services will be at 2 Thursday at Cedar Grove Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery.
The family is at 125 Allen St., Woodruff.

Hubert Smith
BISHOPVILLE — Hubert Smith, 84, husband of Margaret P. Smith, passed away Feb. 24, 2001, at McLeod Regional Medical Center.
Born in Saluda, he was a son of the late Luther Warren and Lillian Bell Longshore Smith. He was owner and operator of Hubert Smith and Sons Garage in Bishopville.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Luther S. Smith of Bishopville; three daughters, Mary S. Green of Sumter, Linda C. London of Virginia Beach, Va., and Jo Ann S. Rooks of Bishopville; two brothers, Luther Warren Smith and Walter R. Smith, both of Bishopville; two sisters, Juanita S. McGee of Atlanta and Frances S. Lee of Norfolk, Va.; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be conducted by the Rev. Ron Glass at 3 today in Piedmont Cemetery.
Grandsons are pallbearers.
The family is at 560 Sumter Highway, Bishopville.

Joe Whitman
HONEA PATH — Joseph W. Whitman, 79, of 306 Tribble St., widower of Eula Mae McGaha Whitman, passed away Feb. 26, 2001, at his home.
Born in Ware Shoals, he was a son of the late Claude and Julie Cheek Whitman. He was a World War II Army veteran and a retired employee of Chiquola Manufacturing Co.
Survivors include two sons, Michael Whitman and Tony Whitman, both of Anderson; a sister, Hazel Honea of Anderson; five grandchildren and a great-granddaughter. Memorial services will be at 3 today at Pruitt Funeral Home.

Hubert C. Amick
GILBERT — Hubert Clay Amick, 74, of 457 Lewie Road, husband of Mary Ellen Jones Amick, passed away Feb. 26, 2001.
Born in Lexington County, he was a son of the late Horace Clayburn and Rosebell Frick Amick. He was a retired machinist with Owens Electric and Steel, a World War II Army veteran and a member of Cedar Grove Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife of Gilbert; two daughters, Debbie Clamp of Lexington and Patricia Amick of Silverstreet; five brothers, Tom Amick, Robert Amick, Bruce Amick and Heyward Amick, all of Leesville and Ray Amick of Gilbert; four sisters, Frances Davis, Ann Adams and Martha Ellen Amick, all of Batesburg-Leesville and Carolina Frick of Lexington; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 4 Thursday at Cedar Grove Lutheran Church, conducted by the Revs. Gary Bradenburg, Kathleen Panning and Terry Amick. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers are Brandon Clamp, Jeff Davis, Steve Amick, Tony Amick, Glenn Frick and Rusty Amick.
Honorary pallbearers are Harold Amick, Boyd Adams, M. Truman Fallaw, Wyman Fallaw, Mims Keisler, Atwood Frye, Lee Keisler, Nathan Lindler, Kenneth Long, Tommy Amick and members of the church counsel.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at Milton Shealy Funeral Home.
