SALUDA — Ida Graham, 90, widow of Robert Graham, passed away Jan. 11, 2001.
Born in Saluda, she was a daughter of the late Burel and Nancy Lott. She was a member of Lockhart Baptist Church.
Survivors include four sons, Gary Graham, Leroy Graham, Albert Graham and M.C. Graham, all of Saluda; two daughters, Minnie R. Holloway of Aiken and Gladys Holloway of Washington , D.C.; a sister, Minnie Scott of Redding, Pa.; 26 grandchildren and 49 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 3 Wednesday at Lockhart Baptist Church.

James Grant

NINETY SIX — Mr. James “Mud Cat” Grant, 50, of 112 Panther Drive, passed away Jan. 11, 2001, at Self Memorial Hospital.
Born in Laurens County, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. James A. “Sammie” Grant. He was employed with Beden-Baugh Tank Co. as an assembly finisher supervisor.
Survivors include his wife, Bernice Hunter Grant of Laurens; a son, James Anthony Grant of Laurens; two daughters, Kelly Sullivan of Gray Court and Nicole Kingsborough of Clinton, a step-son, Pete Bernard Griffin of Greenwood; a step-daughter, Mary Alice Crawford of Pendleton; two brothers, John Grant and Richard Hill, both of Laurens; a sister, Brenda Irby of Laurens; seven grandchildren and five step-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 Monday at Mays United Methodist Church, Ninety Six, conducted by the Rev. Keys. Burial will be in the White Plains Baptist Church Cemetery, Mountville.
The family is at the home, 112 Panther St., and the home of a son, 109 Apex St., Laurens.

Stacy Holder Green

IVA — Margaret Stacy Holder Green, 28, of 41 McGill Circle, wife of Randall Green, passed away Jan. 11, 2001, at Emory University Hospital, Atlanta, Ga.
Born in Greenwood, she was a daughter of Benjamin B. Holder and the late Debra Louise Rutland Holder. She was a housewife.
Survivors include her husband of the home; father of Iva; a daughter, Bennie Nicole Wood of Patterson, N.C.; two sons, Joshua Albert Wood of Patterson, N.C. and Russell Lee Green of the home; a step-daughter, Tristan Amber Green of Honea Path; and a brother, Benjamin C. Holder of Honea Path.
Services will be at 2 Monday at the Harley Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Allen Gregory. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.
The family is at the home of Tracy and Ricky Lusk, 471 Hawghorne Road, Honea Path.

Alton Hilley

WATERLOO — Joseph Alton Hilley, 53, of 64 Hilley Drive, husband of Janet Wrenn Hilley, passed away Jan. 12, 2001, at Self Memorial Hospital.
Born in Laurens County, he was a son of the late Andrew and Nannie Crawford Hilley. He was retired from Sneed Builders and was a member of Reedy Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Joey Hilley of Donalds and David Hilley of Indian Mound Road; a daughter, Christy H. Clark of Waterloo; a sister, Joann H. Long of Trenton; and five grandchildren.
Services will be at 3 Monday at Reedy Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church, conducted by the Revs. J.C. Sorrow and Grady Lothridge. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 2 Monday.
Pallbearers will be Carrol Strickland, Terry Burdette, Tim May, Murphy Gambrell, Wayne Bagwell, Grady Lothridge Jr., Clint Morrow, John Martin and Pee Wee Wrenn.
The family is at the home.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at Parker-White Funeral Home.

Tency Hastings Horne

ANDERSON — Tency Hasting Radford Horne, 96, of 422 Brogan Ave., widow of Kalep Horne, passed away Jan. 13, 2001, at Willow Creek Nursing Center, Iva.
Born in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of the late Bob and Cora Hollingsworth Hastings. She was retired from the Mathews Plant of Greenwood Mills and a member of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church. She was twice married, first to the late Frank Radford.
Survivors include three daughters, Inez Coker of Anderson, Helen Briggs of Hodges and Ruby Nell Ouzts of Troy; a sister, Sis Hudgens of Anderson; a brother, Gene Hastings of Anderson; five grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 3:30 Monday at the Harley Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Bob Napier. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.
The family is at 1201 Evergreen, Anderson, and Olender Drive in Greenwood.

Markley Owings

HOUSTON — Markley James Owings, 77, of Houston and formerly of Greenwood, husband of Erin White Owings, passed away Jan. 13, 2001, in a Houston hospital.
Services will be announced by Blyth Funeral Home, which is in charge.

Zachary T. Piephoff Jr.

OCEAN ISLE BEACH, N.C. — Zachary Taylor Piephoff Jr., 69, formerly of Charlotte and Greenwood, passed away Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, in Ocean Isle Beach.
Born in Williamston, N.C., he was the son of Zachary Taylor Piephoff Sr. and Nancy Caroline Bishop Piephoff. He was a graduate of Duke University where he was an Angier B. Duke scholar and received a Masters of Divinity degree from Union Theological Seminary, Richmond, Va. In 1956 he was ordained a minister in the Presbyterian Church and served in that capacity until his retirement in 1996 by Charlotte Presbytery. Piephoff served installed pastorates in North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia; interim pastorates in North Carolina, Florida and South Caroliina; and a stated supply pastorate in South Carolina.
Survivors include his wife, Katherine Sydnor Piephoff; two sons, Zachary Taylor Piephoff III of Charlotte and Crisman Sydnor Piephoff of Davidson, N.C.; and two granddaughters.
Services will be at 2 Tuesday at Plaza Presbyterian Church, 2304 The Plaza, Charlotte, N.C., with the Rev. G. Thomas Tate and Dr. Douglas Oldenburg officiating. Friends may greet the family after the service.
Memorials be made to Plaza Presbyterian Church, 2304 The Plaza, Charlotte, NC 28205; or the Zachary T. and Nancy Piephoff Scholarship Fund, Martin County Community College, Williamson, NC; or First Presbyterian Church, P. O. Box 426, Greenwood, SC 29648; or a charity of choice.

Katie L. Sprouse

GREENWOOD — Katie M. “Kitty” Linnenkohl Sprouse, 83, of Rock House Road, widow of Ralph Sprouse, passed away Jan. 12, 2001, at National Health Care of Greenwood.
Born in Lincoln County, Ga., she was a daughter of the late Robert and Catherine Matthews Linnenkohl. She was retired from the Durst Plant of Greenwood Mills. She was a member of Abney Memorial Baptist Church where she was a member of the T.E.L. Sunday School Class.
Survivors include two sons, J. Fred Sprouse of Ninety Six and Ralph Theron Sprouse of Savannah; two brothers, Grady Linnenkohl of Haddock, Ga., and Glenn Linnenkohl of Forrest Park, Ga.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 Monday at Abney Memorial Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. W.L. Brown, Steve Owens and Benny Ridlehover. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Rusty, Scott, Michael and Brett Sprouse, Billy Coursey and Gordon Brown.
Honorary escorts will be members of the T.E.L. Sunday School Class of Abney Memorial Baptist Church, Daisy Holsonback, M.M. and Myrtis Thigpen, Stanley and Jane Bell, Jimmy Sprouse, Stanley Sprouse, Bobbie Hansen and Scott and Michael Rice.
Visitation is from 4-6 tonight at Harley Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Abney Memorial Baptist Church or to the Alzheimer’s Association.

William Carl Wright

WATERLOO — William Carl “Bill” Wright, 69, husband of Ruthann Roberson Wright, of 256 Old Oaktree Road, passed away Jan. 12, 2001.
Born in Greenville, he was a son of the late Roy and Nellie Hall Wright.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Mary Jane Williamson of Oklahoma City, Okla., Judy Kasper of Cottonwood, Ariz. and Nancy Roberson of Waterloo; two sons, William Carl Wright Jr. of Greenville and David Wright of Waterloo; a step-son, Tony Medlin of Waterloo; a step-daughter, Deborah Case of Marietta; two sisters, Thelma Wright of Piedmont and Eloise Bagwell of Lyman; five brothers, Charles Wright of Hickory Tavern, Jerry and Arthur Wright, both of Greenville, Bobby and Roy Wright, both of Easley; 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 Monday at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the home, 256 Old Oaktree Road, Waterloo, on Sunday.

John Grady Long

SILVERSTREET — John Grady Long, 96, widower of Bessie Sanders Long, passed away Jan. 12, 2001, at Saluda Nursing Center.
Born in Silverstreet, he was a son of the late Henry Osborne and Daisy Dominick Long. A graduate of Newberry College in 1925 and Draughons Business College in 1926, he served 43 years in various positions, as teacher coach, principal and superintendent, at St. Charles School, Lee County, Mountville School, Laurens County and Silverstreet schools in Newberry County. He also served as vice president and president of Newberry County Education Association, opened one of the first Head Start programs in 1966, and maintained membership in the National Education Association and the Newberry County Education Association. Before becoming an educator, he worked with his father in the lumber business and owned a mercantile business near Silverstreet. He served on the Newberry County Hospital Board, Newberry County Development Board, Newberry County Retired Senior Citizens Advisory Committee and the Silverstreet Boy Scout Council. He was a charter member of Newberry College Indian Club and a member of Woodmen of the World. He served on the Selective Service Registration Board during World War II, chaired the local Red Cross drives and headed various projects for the war effort. He was a member of Silverstreet Lutheran Church, where he had served as a church council member, superintendent of Sunday School, church treasurer, secretary and secretary/treasurer of the Sunday School. He was also a member of the choir and taught Sunday school.
Survivors include two daughters, Dorothy L. Stewart of Silverstreet and Frances L. Blake of Milton, W.Va.; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 3 today at Silverstreet Lutheran Church, with burial in the church cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Silverstreet Lutheran Church, 120 Long St., Silverstreet, S.C. 29145.

Robert S. Martin

SIGNAL MOUNTAIN, Tenn. — Robert S. Martin, 65, vice president and senior consultant for RBI since June 1989, husband of Bonnie Crittenden Martin, passed away Jan. 13, 2001, at a local hospital.
Born in Ware Shoals, S.C., he graduated from Presbyterian College and was a member of Signal Crest United Methodist Church. He was formerly employed by DuPont for 14 years, Avondale Mills for nine years and as president of Diversified Marketing Corp.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Robert Steve Martin Jr. of Chattanooga; a daughter, Pam Fegan of Alpharetta, Ga.; two grandsons; and a brother, Walter Lee Martin Jr.
Graveside services will be at 1 today in Big Canoe Cemetery, Big Canoe, Ga., conducted by the Rev. Jimmy Allen.
Memorials may be made to Big Canoe Chapel, Big Canoe, Ga.

Eugene McCurry Jr.

ABBEVILLE — Eugene Wesley McCurry Jr., 78, of 206 Hodge St., widower of Betty Martin McCurry, passed away Jan. 14, 2001, at Abbeville County Memorial Hospital.
Born in Abbeville, he was a son of the late Eugene Wesley McCurry Sr. and Myrtle Sorrow McCurry. He was a retired conductor with CSX Railroad and a World War II Air Force Veteran. He was a member of Clinton Masonic Lodge No. 3 AFM, the Hejaz Shine Temple and Abbeville Main Street United Methodist Church.
Survivors include three sons, Eugene Wesley McCurry III of Charlotte, N.C., William Dale McCurry of Abbeville and James Martin McCurry of Bostic, N.C.; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 Tuesday at Harris Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Jerry Pickens. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
Visitation is from 12-1 Tuesday at the funeral home.
The family is at the home.
