ABBEVILLE — Brandon Jackson Davis, 13, of Howell Home in New Bern, N.C., passed away Jan. 20, 2001, at Howell Home.
Born in Charlotte, N.C., he was a son of Jack and Lisa Davis Brown.
Survivors include his parents of Anniston, N.C.; and his maternal grandmother, Betty Davis of Abbeville.
Graveside services will be at 11 Monday at Melrose Cemetery. The body is at Harris Funeral Home.

William Denson

HODGES — William Brewster Denson, 43, of 4218 Hwy. 25 N., husband of Robin Hawkins Denson, passed away Jan. 19, 2001, at Hospice House of Anderson.
The family is at the home.
Services will be announced by Blyth Funeral Home, which is in charge.

Allen Hitchcock Sr.

ABBEVILLE — Allen Wilson Hitchcock, 82, of Eden Gardens, widower of Grace Lynch Hitchcock, passed away Jan. 20, 2001, at Self Memorial Hospital.
Born in Mansfield, Ga., he was a son of the late Olin and Sue Davis Hitchcock. He was a retired engineer with the Seaboard Railroad. He was also a member of Main Street United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Allen W. Hitchcock Jr. of Charleston and Ronnie Hitchcock of Abbeville; three sisters, Frances Thompson of Morrow, Ga., Ruby Wiggins of Hapeville, Ga. and Clayton O’Merry of Fayette, Ala.; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 Monday at the Harris Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Jerry Pickens. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
Visitation is from 12-1 Monday prior to service at the funeral home.
The family is at the home of his son, Ronnie Hitchcock, 112 Moore St., Abbeville.
Memorials may be sent to Main St. United Methodist Church, Abbeville, SC 29620.

James ‘Joe Bill’ Jennings

CONWAY — Services for James “Joe Bill” Jennings, of 1833 Raepass St., will be at 1 today at Zion Chapel AME Church, conducted by the Rev. W. B. Louden. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers are Sherman Hawes, Russell Quarles, Craig Hawes, Sherman Quarles, James Hawes and Ricky Quarles.
Flower bearers are granddaughters and great-granddaughters.
The family is at the home of a daughter, Daisy Lee Quarles, 104 Harrison Alley, and a son, J.C. Jennings, No. 4, Woodson Alley, both in Greenwood.
Robinson and Sons Mortuary Inc. is in charge.

Phil Luker

HODGES — Phil Stanley Luker, 58, husband of Linda Faye Fortescue Luker, passed away Jan. 19, 2001, at National Health Care.
Born in Hodges, he was a son of the late Curtis and Edith Watley. He was retired from the maintenance department of the Town of Ware Shoals and a member of Walnut Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of the home, a brother, James Harold Luker of Due West; two sisters, Carlotta Willis and Carolyn Harrison, both of Greenwood.
Services will be at 3 Monday at Parker White Funeral Home, conducted by the Revs. Rodney Jeanes and Gerold Brown. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Glen Mac Donald, Hugh Riley, Pete Luker, Talmadge Luker, Frank Smith and Jack Sitton.
Honorary escorts will be members of the Men’s Sunday School Class, Dr. Allen McQuown and Jim Osborne.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.
The family is at the home.

George Mann

ABBEVILLE — George Clarke Mann, 82, formerly of 1455 Cedar Springs Road, widower of Hazel Mulliken Mann, passed away Jan. 19, 2001, at Richard Michael Campbell Veterans Home.
Born in Hart County, Ga., he was a son of the late George Erskine and Hattie Odell Busby Mann. He was a retired textile employee with Fogil Mills and was a WWII Navy veteran. He was a member of Cedar Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Jenny M. Sutherland of Abbeville; a son, George Walter Mann of Abbeville; three sisters, Kathleen Cordell of Merritt Island, Fla., Louise Chapman of Dewey Rose, Ga. and Helen Hampton of Lathonia, Ga.; and a granddaughter.
Graveside services will be at 3 Monday at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Darrin Hook with military rites.
Visitation is from 6-7 tonight at Harris Funeral Home.
The family is at the home of his daughter, 127 Highland Terrace, Abbeville.
Memorials may be made to the Richard Michael Campbell Veterans Home, 4605 Belton Hwy., Anderson, S.C.

Lawrence Leviticus Sanders

WARE SHOALS — Lawrence Sanders, widower of Ruth Cunningham Sanders, passed away Jan. 18, 2001, at his home.
Born in Ware Shoals, he was a son of William and Martha Sanders. He served the Army and his country during WWII. He worked as a building contractor for more than 45 years. In the 1950s, he started his own construction company, L.L. Sanders & Son, that later became the Hodges Construction Co. He worked with the Upper Savannah Council of Government. He was a member of Dunn Creek Baptist Church, served as a teacher and superintendent of the Dunn Sunday School, sang in the Senior Choir and worked on Vacation Bible School. He was also a member of Dunn Creek Masonic Lodge. He served in civic and community leadership roles in Ware Shoals, Hodges and Greenwood.
Survivors include two sons, Lawrence Jr. and Tony Johnson; two daughters, A. Kaye Kilgore and A. Faye Sanders; two sisters, Elma Sanders Madden and Virginia Sanders Mack; a brother, Carnell Sanders; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 Monday at Dunn Creek Baptist Church, Ware Shoals. The body will be placed in the church at 1.
Pallbearers and flower bearers will be nephews and nieces.
The family is at the home.
Memorials may be sent to Hospice Care of the Piedmont Inc., Greenwood, S.C.
Parks Funeral Home is in charge.

Winston Churchill Wideman

McCORMICK — Winston Churchill Wideman Sr., of 918 Augusta St., husband of Lynda Garrett Wideman, passed away Jan. 20, 2001, at his home.
Born in McCormick, he was a son of Mrs. Louise Patterson Wideman Sherard and the late Ulysses Wideman. He was a member of Shiloh AME Church and a retired employee of the Abbeville Milliken Plant. He was a graduate of Mims High School.
Survivors include his wife of the home; his mother and step-father, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Sherard of McCormick; two sons, Winston C. Wideman Jr. of Memphis, Tenn. and James Moye of Greenwood; a daughter, Tanya R. Wallace of Memphis, Tenn.; a sister, Carrie Mae Wideman of Buffalo, N.Y.; and eight grandchildren.
Services will be announced by Walker Funeral Home, which is in charge.

Lovin Wood, veteran of two wars, dies at 101

PARKSVILLE — A. Lovin Wood, 101, Army veteran of both World Wars, passed away Jan. 20, 2001, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Augusta.
Husband of Nora Perkins Wood, they lived on Mountain View Road.
Born in Edgefield County, he was a retired textile worker and farmer. He was a member of the American Legion and Parksville Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of the home; and a daughter, Susan Buck of Parksville.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Parksville Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Michael Wren and the Rev. Wade Godfrey.
Visitation is from 6-8 tonight at Parksville Baptist Church.
The family is at the home.

John Brock

ABBEVILLE — John Allen Brock, 86, widower of Gertrude Erwin Brock, passed away Jan. 21, 2001, at Abbeville Nursing Home.
Born in Anderson County, he was a son of the late O.K. and Amy Elizabeth Fields Brock. He was a retired textile employee with Abbeville Mills and a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Carolyn Fleming of Lexington; a sister, Lola Dean of Belton; three brothers, Howard Brock of Greenwood, Alborn Brock of Honea Path and John W. Brock of Belton; and three step-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 2:30 Tuesday in Ebenezer United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Ebenezer United Methodist Church, Highway 72, Abbeville, S.C. 29620.

Willie D. Bush

SALUDA — Willie D. Bush, 80, of Route 4, Columbia Highway, passed away Jan. 20, 2001, at his home.
Born in Laurens County, Ga., he was a son of the late Charlie Crawford and Ethel Stewart Bush. He was a retired inspector with the Naval Ordinance Plant, Dublin, Ga., a World War II Army veteran and a member of Union Baptist Church in Dublin.
Survivors include a daughter, Dale Nutt of Saluda; three sons, Danny Bush, Charles Bush and David Bush, all of Gray, Ga.; a brother, the Rev. Douglas Bush of Dublin; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 3 today at Ramey Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Bobby Joyner. Visitation will be after the service.
Additional services will be at 3 Tuesday at Union Baptist Church, Dublin, conducted by the Rev. Dahl McDermitt. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Lenward Davis

ABBEVILLE — Lenward Dean Davis, 59, of 911 Cypress Church Road, husband of Mary Sprouse Davis, passed away Jan. 21, 2001, at Self Memorial Hospital in Greenwood.
Born in Abbeville County, he was a son of Joe Davis and the late Cora Sparks Davis. He retired from Bollag Industries and was a member of Warrenton Presbyterian Church. He formerly served in the Coast Guard.
Survivors include his wife of the home; his father of Abbeville; a daughter, Diane B. Dawsey of Augusta; a son, Johnny W. Bush Jr. of Trenton; and four step-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Warrenton Presbyterian Church, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is from 6-8 Tuesday at Harris Funeral Home.
The family is at the home.
Memorials may be made to HospiceCare of the Piedmont, 408 W. Alexander Ave., Greenwood, S.C. 29646.

Will Denson

HODGES — William “Will” Denson, 43, of 4218 Highway 25 North, husband of Robin Hawkins Denson, passed away January 19, 2001 at the Hospice House in Anderson.
Born in Beaumont, Texas , he was the son of Rev. John “Lane” Denson and the late Tommye Milstead Denson. He was a graduate of Hillsbourgh High School in Nashville, Tenn., and was of the Episcopal faith.
Survivors include his wife of the home; his father of Nashville, a step-mother, Caroline Stark Denson of Nashville; a sister, Ann Milstead Denson of Franklin, Tenn., two brothers, John Lane Denson IV of Nashville and Scott Thomas Denson of Houston.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection, with the Rev. Father John “Lane” Denson and the Rev. Father Hershel Atkinson officiating.
Visitation will be immediately following the service in the Bishop’s Hall of the church.
Entombment will be beside his mother at Christ Church Cathedral in Nashville at a later date.
The family is at the home on Highway 25.
Memorials may be made to the Hospice Care of the Piedmont, 408 West Alexander Ave., Greenwood, S.C. 29646.
