Linda Parks Gaffney
TUSTIN, CA. - Linda Parks Gaffney, daughter of Mrs. Rufus May and the late William L. 'Bill' Parks Sr., passed away at her residence in Tustin, Calif. July 13, 2001.
A 1965 graduate of Abbeville High School, she graduated from Piedmont School of Nursing and from Texas Women's University. She was a nurse practitioner.
Survivors include her husband, Faris Gaffney of Tustin, Calif.; a son, Shawn Gaffney of Margate, Fla.; two sisters, Lana Parks Martin of Minot, N.D. and Lisa Parks Ferrell of Cary, N.C.; a brother, William Lamar Parks Jr. of Albany, Ga., and seven nieces and nephews.
Locally, a memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 21, at First Baptist Church of Abbeville, with Rev. Wayne Wiggins officiating. Visitation will be after the service at the church. Memorial services were held in Tustin July 17, 2001.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, the MS Foundation or the Kidney Foundation.

Joey Rudd
GREENWOOD - Joseph Milton 'Joey' Rudd, 51, of 934 Woodlawn Road, husband of Marie Pulliam Rudd, passed away Saturday, July 14, 2001 in Texas .
Born in Belton, he was a son of the late Barney and Janie Ruth Rudd. He was a truck driver with Pulliam Trucking Company and was of the Methodist faith.
He was first married to the late Lila Divine Rudd.
Surviving is his wife of the home; a son, Joey Milton Rudd of Cheraw; a daughter, Teresa Deal of Greenwood; two stepsons, Will Pulliam of the home and William Harrison of Marion, NC; a sister, Vivian Cole of Belton; a brother, Johnny Rudd of Belton; his former wife, Margaret Inez Daniels of Elberton, GA and two grandsons, Brandon Tucker and Cody Tucker, both of Greenwood.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Harley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Randy Ouzts and the Rev. William Robertson officiating. Burial will be in Oak-brook Memorial Park.
Pallbearers and honorary escort will be employees of Pulliam Trucking Company. The family will receive friends at the funeral home tonight from 7 to 9 p.m.
The family is at the home, 934 Woodlawn Road and at the home of his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mr. & Mrs. Ed Pulliam, 930 Woodlawn Road.
Harley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Howard D. Austin
CROSS HILL — Howard D. Austin, 75, of 543 Amber Hill Circle, husband of Lois Rainey Austin, passed away July 16, 2001, at Self Memorial Hospital in Greenwood.
Born in Hawley, Pa., he was a son of the late Charles and Martha Wheeler Austin. He was a retired employee of General Motors, Rochester, N.Y., a World War II Navy veteran and a member of First Baptist Church of Cross Hill.
Survivors include his wife of the home and a sister, Eleanor Shedlock of South Canaan, Pa.
Services were at 11 a.m. today at First Baptist Church of Cross Hill, with burial in the church cemetery.
Gray Funeral Home, Clinton, is in charge.

Seymour ‘Wee’ Bowie
GREENWOOD — Services for Seymour “Wee” Bowie, of 101 Park Alley, will be conducted at 3 Thursday at Robinson & Son Mortuary by the Rev. John R. Brightharp. Burial is in Flint Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Donald Bell, Kenneth Smith, Howard Brown, Ernest Lake, Lee Farmer and Roosevelt Lindsey.
Flower bearers are granddaughters.
Visitation is from 7-8 tonight at the home.
Robinson & Son Mortuary Inc. is in charge.

Rocellia Butler
EDGEFIELD — Rocellia Butler, 96, of Azalea Woods Nursing Home, Aiken, passed away July 17, 2001.
Born in Edgefield County, she was a member of the local congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Survivors include four daughters, Alma Oliphant of Charlotte, N.C., Rosetta Ray of Scotch Plain, N.J., Catherine Butler of New Jersey and Henrietta Tyler of Greenville; two sons, Raymond Butler of Charlotte and Carletha Butler of Edgefield; and 15 grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Edgefield, by Brother Willie Herring. Burial is in Sunset Gardens Memorial Park, Johnston.
G.L. Brightharp & Sons Mortuary is in charge.

Willie Mae Moore
PLUM BRANCH — Willie Mae Moore, 48, wife of Garnett Moore, passed away July 17, 2001, at Self Memorial Hospital in Greenwood.
Born in McCormick, she was a daughter of the late Richard and Amelia Heath and stepdaughter of the late Paul Patterson. She was a member of Hosannah Baptist Church, Modoc, a graduate of McCormick High School and a lady attendant at Walker Funeral Home.
Survivors include her husband of the home; a daughter, Victoria Durant of Plum Branch; two sons, Richard K. Moore and Garnett Moore Jr., both of the home; two brothers, Richard Heath Jr. and Randy Elmore, both of Plum Branch; a sister, Rosa Lee Holloway of Plum Branch; a foster sister, Minnie Lee Phelps of Greenwood; and five grandchildren.
The family is at the home of her daughter, Mrs. James Durant, Plum Branch.
Services will be announced by Walker Funeral Home, McCormick, which is in charge.

Ruth Spearman
ABBEVILLE — Ruth Shaw Spearman, 81, of 896 Milford Dairy Road, widow of William Earl Spearman, passed away July 18, 2001, at her home.
Visitation is from 6-8 Thursday at Harris Funeral Home.
Services will be announced by Harris Funeral Home, which is in charge.

Betty Bowman Dean
GREENWOOD — Services for Betty Jean Bowman Dean, of 313-A Byrd St., will be conducted at 2 Saturday at Mount Tabor Baptist Church by the Rev. Ulysses Parks. The body will be placed in the church at 1.
Burial is in Evening Star Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are Vincent Coat, James Dunlap, Eugene McBride, Herbie Parks, Jermain Roger, Sam Ross, Eric Wardlaw and Robert Williams. Flower bearers are Cathy Child, Margaret Dorn, Andrea Hill, Betty Jacobs, Tammy Chapman, Anna Ross, Mary Ann Williams, Alfadella Ross, Ruby Johnson and Cynthia Martin.
Visitation is Friday evening at the home.
Robinson & Son Mortuary Inc. is in charge.

Carl Derr
GREENWOOD — Carl Derr, of 405 E. Cambridge Ave., passed away last night at Self Memorial Hospital.
The family is at the home.
Services will be announced by Parks Funeral Home, which is in charge.

John Junior Freeman
ANDERSON — John Junior Freeman, 49, of 400 Revie Drive, passed away July 18, 2001, at Anderson Area Medical Center.
Born in Abbeville County, he was a son of Evelyn F. Davis and the late John Aiken. He was a former truck driver and was of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Roy Davis, of Abbeville; and two sisters, Dorothy A. Johnson and Barbara A. Davis, both of Abbeville.
The family is at the home of his parents, 107 Nichols St.
Services will be announced by Brown & Walker Funeral Home, which is in charge.

Lucile Payne
CALHOUN FALLS — Annie Lucile Ayers Payne, 79, formerly of 149 Tugaloo St., widow of Ozro Raymond Payne, passed away July 18, 2001, at Spring Valley Health Care Center in Elberton, Ga.
Born in Elbert County, Ga., she was a daughter of the late Lacurgas and Carrie Azalee Hall Ayers. She retired from Rocky River Textile Plant, where she was a twister. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Garden Club, and Calhoun Falls First Baptist Church, where she was a former Sunday School teacher and member of the Missionary Circle and the choir.
Survivors include three daughters, Toni P. Ross of Greenwood, Betty Jo Patterson of Calhoun Falls and Rhea Wiles of Elberton; three sons, Samuel Lewis Payne of Corpus Christi, Texas , Fred Lee Payne of Calhoun Falls and Pete R. Payne of Rock Hill; a sister, Peggy A. McClain of Cayce; 17 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at 5 Friday at Calhoun Falls Funeral Home by the Rev. Jerry Dalton. Burial is in Latimer Cemetery.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.
The family is at the home of Betty Jo and Billy Patterson, 710 Savannah St.

Ruth Spearman
ABBEVILLE — Ruth Shaw Spearman, 80, of 896 Milford Dairy Road, widow of William Earl Spearman, passed away July 18, 2001, at her home.
Born in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of the late James Henry and Lizzie Holsonback Shaw. She was a retired textile employee, and she attended Gilgal United Methodist Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Floy S. Seay of Greenville, Earline S. Milford of Abbeville and Ann S. Warren of West Columbia; two sons, William Earl “Bill” Spearman Jr. of Greer and Jimmy F. Spearman of Fountain Inn; a sister, Martha S. Pace of Greenwood; 14 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Greenwood Memorial Gardens by the Revs. Jones Brewer and Rick Scott.
Pallbearers are Richard Scott, Jerry Scott, Sam Milford, Curtis Burnett, James Burnett and Albert Burnett.
Visitation is from 6-8 tonight at Harris Funeral Home.
The family is at the home.

Michael Anthony Griffin
GREENWOOD — Michael Anthony Griffin, 37, of 428 Byrd St., husband of Mary Frances Callaham Griffin, passed away June 29, 2001, in Columbia.
Born in Greenwood County, he was a son of Rosa Lee White Griffin and the late George Johnson. He was a member of Flint Hill Baptist Church and attended Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, Cross Hill. He was a maintenance worker at Davis Buick Motor Co. and a member of the Social Travel Club.
Survivors include his mother of Greenwood; his wife of the home; five sisters, Linda Speech of Charlotte, N.C., Wydenia Johnson Bounds of Washington , D.C., Angetina Johnson Harrison of Orangeburg, Doretha Johnson of Columbia and Eugina Griffin of Brooklyn, N.Y.; four brothers, Eugene Griffin of Greenwood, Reggie Griffin of Philadelphia, George Johnson Jr. of Charlotte and Makil Griffin of Jacksonville, Fla.; two stepsons, Dee Culbreath of the home and Willie Lee Culbreath of Greenwood; and a stepdaughter, Anthione Culbreath of Marion.
The family is at the home and at the home of his mother, 105 N. Ames St.
Services will be announced by Robinson & Son Mortuary Inc., which is in charge.

Tony Havird
HODGES — Tony Melvin Havird, 56, of 5624 Highway 178 North, husband of Ann Horne Havird, passed away July 1, 2001, at his home.
Born in Greenwood, he was a son of the late Broadus F. and Ozella Butler Havird. He retired from C.P.W. after 30 years of service and was a sergeant with the S.C. Army National Guard, 111th Signal Battalion. He was a member and Past Master of Bascomb Lodge No. 363 A.F.M. and a member of Chapter M of GWRRA and Hyde Park Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of the home; a son, Jeff Havird of Hodges; three stepsons, Tony Sleister, Chip Tinsley and Terry Tinsley, all of Hodges; two sisters, Mrs. David (Zora) Watson and Mrs. J.C. (Frankie) Snowden, both of Montgomery, Ala.; and five grandchildren. Services will be conducted at 2 Wednesday at Harley Funeral Home by the Revs. Tommy Thurston and Frank Thomas. Burial, with Masonic Rites, is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers are Jimmy Harrison, Bob Calhoun, Gene Gamble, Kenneth Stennett, Mark Falls and Charlie Havird.
Honorary escorts are employees of the C.P.W. Electric Department, friends of Chapter M-GWRRA and members of Bascomb Lodge No. 363 A.F.M. and the S.C. Army National Guard.
Visitation is from 7-9 Tuesday at the funeral home.
The family is at the home.

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. — Randy Lee Hazeltine, 43, of 110 Robley Drive, son of Carol Kester Hazeltine and the late Richard Thomas Hazeltine, passed away July 1, 2001, at Self Memorial Hospital in Greenwood, S.C.
