Nell Farmer
SUMMERVILLE — Nell Pitts Farmer, 88, of 401 Beauregard Road, formerly of Greenwood, widow of H. Jerome Farmer, passed away July 23, 2001, at the Life Care Center of Charleston.
Born in Greenwood, she was a daughter of the late Clinton B. Sr. and Mattie Betts Pitts. She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include a daughter, Martha F. Douglas, with whom she made her home in Summerville; two sons, William L. Farmer Sr. of Lexington and Ralsa F. “Rallie” Farmer of Greenwood; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Chappells Baptist Church Cemetery, Chappells, by the Rev. David Verronne.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at Blyth Funeral Home.
The family is at the home of a son, Rallie Farmer, 217 Duncan Street, Greenwood.
Memorials may be made to Lutheran Hospice of Charleston, 753 Johnnie Dodds Blvd., Mount Pleasant, S.C. 29464.

Lillie Phillips Gordon
EDGEFIELD — Lillie Phillips Gordon, 95, of 113 Gordon Town Road, widow of Willie “Dink” Gordon, passed away July 21, 2001, at Self Memorial Hospital, Greenwood.
Born in Edgefield County, she was a daughter of the late Will and Lula Dobbs Phillips. She was a member of Pleasant Lane Baptist Church, where she served as mother of the church, missionary, choir member and member of the Pleasant Lane Burial Aide Society.
Survivors include four sons, Douglas P. Gordon of Washington , D.C., Franklin D. Gordon, Harold Gordon and Ronnie Gordon, all of Edgefield; four daughters, Marie Adams of Edgefield, Catherine G. Shivers and Ethel G. Long, both of Jersey City, N.Y., and Katherina Brown of Washington , D.C.; a sister, Willie M. Coleman of Washington , D.C.; 32 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at 2 Friday at Pleasant Lane Baptist Church by the Rev. Sloan Gordon. Burial is in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 1.
Visitation is at the home.

Cora Bell Lee
EDGEFIELD — Cora Bell Lee, 74, of 221 Macedonia St., wife of Willie H. Lee Sr., passed away July 21, 2001.
Born in Edgefield County, she was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church of Edgefield.
Survivors include her husband of the home; five daughters, Christine Thomas, Louise M. Lee and Cynthia A. Lee, all of Edgefield, Doris Robinson of Trenton and Marcia Moss of Greenville; three sons, Willie H. Lee Jr. and Rodell Lee, both of Edgefield and F. Bruce Lee of North Augusta; 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at 2 Wednesday at Macedonia Baptist Church by the Rev. Johnny Clark. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Visitation is at the home, or friends may call after 1 today at G.L. Brightharp & Sons Mortuary.

Julio Nuñez Martinez
YORK — Julio Cesar Nuñez Martinez, 21, of 1800 Sutton Springs Road, passed away July 21, 2001, in Aiken.
Born in Yuriria, Guanajuato, Mexico, he was a son of J. Trinidad Nuñez Leon and Ramona Martinez De Nuñez. He was employed by Hearthstone Developers.
Survivors include his parents of Yuriria; four sisters, Ofelia Nuñez Martinez of Florida and Carmen Nuñez Martinez, Erendira Nuñez Martinez and Corine Nuñez, all of Mexico; and five brothers, Ramiro Nuñez Martinez and Francisco Nuñez Martinez, both of Mexico, Guadalupe Nuñez Martinez and Juan Nuñez Martinez, both of Gainesville, Ga., and Raul Nuñez Martinez of York.
Services will be conducted at 5 Wednesday at Harley Funeral Home, Greenwood, by the Rev. Juan Perez. Burial is in Pantion Municipal Cemetery, Yuriria, Guanajuato, Mexico.

Wallace Ouzts
NINETY SIX — Wallace Payne Ouzts, 86, of 8202 Highway 246 S., widower of Ollie Lois Timmerman Ouzts, passed away July 23, 2001, at National Health Care in Greenwood.
Born in Greenwood County, he was a son of the late Zack and Idena Elizabeth Ouzts Ouzts. He retired from Greenwood Mills, Ninety Six Plant No. 5 and was a retired cattle farmer. He was a World War II Army veteran and a member of Ninety Six Pentecostal Holiness Church and the Emma Berry Sunday School Class of the church.
Survivors include a son, David Ouzts of Ninety Six; a sister, Mary Ouzts of Ninety Six; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at 3 Wednesday at Ninety Six Pentecostal Holiness Church by the Revs. Ben Edwards and Hayes Riddle. Burial is in Elmwood Cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 2.
Pallbearers are Eddie Friar, Glenn Friar, Glenn Turner, Glenn Fox, Roy Horne, Mike Balchin, Ronnie Allen and Donald Gene Gibert. Honorary escorts are the Men of Ninety Six Pentecostal Holiness Church, along with James Dorn, C.W. Dorn, Hoyt Dorn, George Dorn, Yancy Dorn, Raymond Dorn, Billy Rush, Hazel Horne, Robert Horne, Tim Friar and Ronnie Staggs.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at Blyth Funeral Home.

GREENWOOD — Mary Helen Pope Clark, 74, of 402 Colonial Drive, widow of James Russell Clark, passed away July 24, 2001, at National Health Care, Greenwood.
Born in Sampson County, N.C., she was a daughter of the late Joseph Edgar and Mary Elizabeth Mathis Pope. She was a member of New Life Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Mary Anne Smith Morris, with whom she made her home, Betty Smith Barr of Greer and Jane Smith of Roanoke Rapids, N.C.; two brothers, Joe Pope and John Pope, both of Clinton, N.C.; a sister, Rosa Williams of Clinton, N.C.; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Thursday at New Life Pentecostal Holiness Church by Dr. Phillip Morris and the Rev. Ernest Barr. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens. The body will be placed in the church at 3.
Pallbearers are Charles Blalock, Carroll Bryant, Lee Cannon, Wayne Crawford, Rev. Jerry Foley, Randolph Knight, Marvin Godfrey, Mike Sanders, Jerry Shirley, Tom Shirley and Harold Timms.

Louise Hartzog
GREENWOOD — Louise Hodges Hartzog, 100, of 306 Lites Street, widow of L. Kimberley Hartzog, passed away July 23, 2001, at Eden Gardens.
Born in Greenwood, she was a daughter of the late S.C. and May Lily Blake Hodges. She attended Mary Baldwin Seminary and graduated from the Central School of Hygiene and Physical Education in New York City in 1924 with a degree in physical education.
She was the first head of the Department of Physical Education at Lander College. She also taught at the University of Oregon, returning to Lander in 1929 to chair the Physical Education Department at Lander College. At age 50, she returned to Lander as a student, graduating Summa Cum Laude with a degree in elementary education and teaching fourth and sixth grades in the public schools of Greenwood until 1966.
In 1992, she was awarded The Order of the Palmetto, South Carolina’s highest civilian award, and received the Lander Medallion in 1994. A scholarship is endowed in her name at Lander for the outstanding female athlete. The oldest living member and first woman Elder of First Presbyterian Church, she was a life member of the women of the church and taught sixth-grade Sunday School for 73 years. She was also a member of Star Fort Chapter of the DAR.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Virgil W. (Mary) Duffie of Columbia and Dr. Kimberley Snow of Santa Barbara, Ca.; five grandchildren.
A private family burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery Friday morning.
Memorial services will be conducted at 2 Friday at First Presbyterian Church by Dr. John Wall. Visitation is from 7-9 Thursday at Blyth Funeral Home.

Leaman D. Jones Sr.
CLINTON — Leaman Dantzler Jones Sr., 75, of 724 Carolyn Drive, husband of Anne McMillian Jones, passed away July 23, 2001, at Self Memorial Hospital in Greenwood.
Born in Cross Hill, he was a son of the late William Elbert Jones and Nancy Stillwell Jones Putnam. He was a retired banker, serving with the Bank of Clinton and First National Bank, as president of Citizen’s Federal Savings and Loan and Security Federal Savings and Loan and as an advisory board member of First National Bank. An honor graduate of Presbyterian College, he was a World War II Army veteran, a recipient of the Purple Heart and a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Clinton.
Survivors include his wife of the home; four sons, Leaman “Danny” Jones Jr. of Greenwood, Bob Jones of Clinton, Lawrence Byrd Jones of Simpsonville and Lonnie Jones of Greenville; a daughter, Nancy Jones Bruyere of Clinton; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services are at 2 Thursday in Liberty Springs Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Cross Hill. Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at Gray Funeral Home, Clinton.

GREENWOOD — Carolyn Jo Arnwine Rork, 60, of 115 Reedy Cove Lane, wife of Glen A. Rork, passed away July 24, 2001, at her home.
Born in Knoxville, Tenn., she was a daughter of the late Ulys S. and Lucile Hawkins Arnwine. She retired from Ely Lilly & Co., Indianapolis.
Survivors include her husband of the home; three sons, Bryan K. Shell of Greenfield, Ind., Todd A. Shell of California and Chad H. Rork of Indianapolis; and a sister, Gloria A. Hinshaw of Knoxville, Tenn.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Blyth Funeral Home by Dr. John Wall.
Visitation is from 6-8 Thursday at the funeral home.
The family is at the home in Stoney Point.

GREENVILLE — Beatrice Thomas, 57, of Westside Nursing Home, passed away July 24, 2001.
Born in Abbeville, she was a daughter of the late Janie Ruth Thomas and a former member of Mount Canaan Baptist Church.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
The family is at the home of an aunt, Suzie Bell Coleman, 2591 Secession Ave. Extension, Abbeville.
Services will be announced by Brown and Walker Funeral Home, Abbeville, which is in charge.
