James Hulon Kay
BELTON - James Hulon (Wink) Kay, 74, of 111 Tollison St., husband of Virginia Lee Watkins Kay, passed away July 28, 2001 at Hart County Hospital, Hartwell, Ga.
Born in Belton, he was a son of the late James Roy and Sarah Willingham Kay. He was a retired manager with A & P Food Stores, a veteran of WW II where he served with the US Army in the Pacific. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #358 in Greenwood, a Shriner and member of The American Legion. He was of the Baptist Faith.
Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are daughter, Carla Denise Kay of the home; son, Bobby Joe Kay of Belton; two sisters, Doris Richardson of Anderson and Virginia Human of Williamston. Grand-daughter, Serena Kay of the home and a grandson Brad Kay of Troy, S.C. He was predeceased by a daughter, Janice Marie Kay and a sister, Lou Emma Schmidt.
Funeral services will be conducted from the Chapel of Cox Funeral Home on Tuesday at 3:00 PM with the Revs. Fred J. Scarborough and Don Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Belton Cemetery with Masonic Rites.
The body is at the Cox Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 2 until 3 PM Tuesday. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Shriners Hospital, Greenville, S.C.
The family is at the residence.

Eleanor R. Webster
GREENWOOD — Eleanor R. Webster Webster, 86, of 1110 Marshall Road, widow of Stuart E. Webster, passed away July 28, 2001, at Wesley Commons.
Memorial services will be announced at a later date by Harley Funeral Home, which is in charge.

Johnny Wilson
JERSEY CITY, N.J. — Services for Johnny Wilson will be conducted at 3 Wednesday at Calvary Grove Baptist Church, Greenwood County, S.C., by the Rev. J.W. Price, assisted by the Revs. Willie Evans, Ricky Quarles, Cheryl Lynn Nicholson and Cynthia Dye. Burial is in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 2.
Pallbearers are Roy Parks Jr., Claude Roundtree, Wiley Dye, Frank Williams Jr., Michael Quarles and Wilbert Robinson.
Flower bearers are Sarah Lomax, Patricia Robinson, Gwendolyn Duncan, Natasha Harris, Mildred Carter and Lynn Freeman.
Visitation is from 7-8 Tuesday at Robinson & Son Mortuary, Greenwood.
The family is at the home of a daughter, Betty Williams, 705 Gilliam Ave., Greenwood.

Patsy Ayers
ABBEVILLE — Patsy Ruth Ayers, 55, of 106 Walnut St., wife of Freddie O. Ayers, passed away July 30, 2001, at Self Memorial Hospital.
Born in Florence County, she was a daughter of the late Bennie and Angie Ard Parrott. She was employed with Flexible Technologies and was of the Associate Reformed Presbyterian faith.
Survivors include her husband of the home; a daughter, Doris Creel of Coward; five sisters, Shirley Parrott of Lake City, Virginia Ducote of Abbeville, Mary Moore of Scranton, Martha Ann Gaskins of Hemmingway and Sarah Smith of Columbia; and five brothers, John Parrott of Cheraw, Gary Parrott of Lake City, Paul Parrott of Timmonsville, Leonard Walker of Columbia and Russell Parrott of Riverdale, Ga.
Services are at 2 Thursday at Brockington Funeral Home, Lake City, with burial in Mattews Cemetery, Lake City.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at Harris Funeral Home, Abbeville, and from 7-9 Wednesday at Brockington Funeral Home.
The family is at the home.

Eleanor Lipford Butler
HODGES — Eleanor Lipford Butler, 94, of 122 N. Hodges School Road, widow of Rathen Butler, passed away July 29, 2001, at her home.
Born in Due West, she was a daughter of the late Norman and Sally Lipford. She was a member of Macedonia C.M.E. Church, where she was a former superintendent, Sunday School teacher, president of the Stewardess Board and senior choir member.
Survivors include a daughter, Camilla B. Gilbert of the home; two grandchildren reared in the home, Kenneth Edward Marshall of Greenwood and James Rathen Gilbert of Hodges; eight great-grandchildren, one reared in the home, Edward Jeffrey Marshall; nine great-great-grandchildren and an adopted grandchild.
Services will be conducted at 2 Wednesday at Macedonia C.M.E. Church by the Rev. Ida M. Shipman, pastor, assisted by the Revs. J.J. Robinson and J. Williams. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens. The body will be placed in the church at 1.
Pallbearers are Kenneth Edward Marshall, James Rathen Gilbert, Edward Jeffrey Marshall, Wayne Harris, Richard Williams and Johnny Conway.
Flower bearers are Sherry Marshall, Terri Marshall, Ruby Marshall, Doris Watts, Jessica Nicole Gilbert and Althea Aiken.
Visitation is at the home.
Parks Funeral Home, Greenwood, is in charge.

NEWBERRY — Ruth Dantzler, 72, passed away July 27, 2001, at Jesse Frank Nursing Home in Newberry.

BELTON — Thomas “Tom” Calvin Dean, 52, of 902 Anderson St., passed away July 29, 2001, at Hospice House of the Upstate.

Lula B. Lindley
PORTLAND, Tenn. — Lula B. Lindley, 80, formerly of Ninety Six, S.C., passed away July 26, 2001, at Tennessee Christian Medical Center in Portland.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Martha L. Dodge of Portland; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Burial will be in South Carolina.
Memorials may be made to Sumner County Hospice, P.O. Box 1558, Gallatin, Tenn. 37066.

HARTWELL, Ga. — Betty Ross Wilson Ammons, 82, of 54 Glenn St., formerly of Greenwood, S.C., widow of John Melvin Ammons, passed away July 5, 2001, in Hartwell.
The family is at the home of a daughter, Judith A. Cockrell, 208 Curl Creek Road, Greenwood.
Services will be announced by Blyth Funeral Home, Greenwood, which is in charge.

Essie Mae Fain
GREENWOOD - Essie Mae Wilson Fain, 75, of 401 Marshall Circle, widow of William T. Fain, passed away Wednesday, July 4, 2001.
Born in Newberry, she was a daughter of the late Willie H. and Maree Willingham Wilson. She was retired from Greenwood Mills, Durst Plant, where she was a member of the Quarter Century Club. She was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Roger & Linda Fain of Ninety Six; granddaughter and family, Paula, Joseph, Joshua, Seth and Olivia Kate Warnick; grandson and family, Russell, Melonee and Britt Fain of Waterloo; sister and brother-in-law, Grace and Charles Brown of Ninety Six; six nieces; and five nephews.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Travis Park Cemetery, Saluda, with the Rev. Gene Brown and the Rev. Ben Edwards officiating.
The family will receive friends at Harley Funeral Home tonight from 6 to 8 p.m.
The family is at the home of Roger and Linda Fain, 307 Butler Circle, Ninety Six.
Harley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ruth Belcher Lomax
MOUNT CARMEL — Ruth Belcher Lomax, 85, of Route 1, Box 122, widow of Eugene Lomax, passed away July 3, 2001, at Self Memorial Hospital in Greenwood.
Born in McCormick, she was a daughter of the late Marshall and Minnie McClinton Belcher. She was a homemaker and a member of Rockford A.M.E. Church, where she was a member of the Senior Choir, the Missionary Society and the Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include four daughters, Jeanette Kennedy and Ruth Bell, both of Calhoun Falls and Deloris Peterson and Louise Wideman, both of Abbeville; four sons, William Lomax, James Lomax and Willie Lomax, all of Mount Carmel and Herman Lomax of New York, N.Y.; four sisters, Ethel Harris of Rockdale Village, N.Y., and Jeanette Ryan, Sarah Atkins and Linnie Johnson, all of Mount Carmel; four brothers, the Rev. Willie Belcher and the Rev. Robert Belcher, both of Calhoun Falls and James Belcher and Ulysses Belcher, both of Abbeville; 24 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at 1 Saturday at Rockford A.M.E. Church by the Rev. James Louden III. Burial is in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at noon.
Pallbearers are James W. Brown, Robert Anderson, George Lomax, Willie W. Lomax, Tavaris Jackson and Bernard Wideman.
Flower bearers are granddaughters and members of the Women’s Aide Society.
Visitation is at the home in Cathy Heights.
Viewing is from 1-8:30 Friday at Richie Funeral Home, Abbeville.

Milton Smith
SALUDA — Milton “Smitty” Smith, 72, of 504 Travis Ave., widower of Mary Katherine Derreberry Smith, passed away July 3, 2001, at his home.
Born in Saluda County, he was a son of the late Otis H. and Gladys Parrish Smith. He was an Army veteran of the Korean conflict, a retired employee of American Fiber and Finishing, Newberry, and a former employee of Saluda County. He attended Hopewell Congregational Holiness Church.
Survivors include a son, Ricky Ray Smith Sr. of Saluda; a daughter, Debra Smith Faust of Gaston; a sister, Dorothy Atkinson of Edgefield; three grandchildren and a great-grandson.
Services are at 4 Friday at Ramey Funeral Home, with burial in Travis Park Cemetery.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 6604, Columbia, S.C. 29260 or the American Lung Association of South Carolina, P.O. Box 1609, Columbia, S.C. 29202-1609.

R. Ann Smith
SENECA — R. Ann Smith, 78, of 206 Summitt Drive, passed away July 2, 2001, at Oconee Memorial Hospital.
Born in Oconee County, she was a daughter of the late Dora Brewer. She was a retired practical nurse with Shady Brook Nursing Home and Oconee Memorial Hospital.
Survivors include two sons, Donnie Tafta of Seneca and Jerry Tafta of Greenwood; two daughters, Jean Jester of Anderson and Sue Sheriff of Greenwood; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Graveside services are at 2 today in Oconee Memorial Park, conducted by the Rev. Michael Willis.
Grandsons are pallbearers.
Seneca Mortuary is in charge.

Willie M. Turner-Gilchrist
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Willie Mae Turner-Gilchrist, of 5712 Colorado Ave., widow of Joseph Gilchrist Sr., passed away June 30, 2001, in Washington , D.C.
Born in Edgefield, she was a daughter of the late George and Lela Davis Turner. A former member of Springfield Baptist Church, Edgefield, she joined New Samaritan Baptist Church in Washington .
Survivors include four sons, Joseph Gilchrist Jr. of Detroit and Jerome Gilchrist, Ronald Gilchrist and Leonard Gilchrist, all of Washington , D.C.; two daughters, Vernell G. Chase and Shirlene G. Douglas, both of Washington , D.C.; four sisters, Eddie M. Phillips and Mamie T. Calhoun, both of Greenwood, S.C., Julia Peterson of St. Albans, N.Y., and Callie Harrison of Washington , D.C.; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services are at 11 a.m. Saturday at New Samaritan Baptist Church.
Hackett Funeral Chapel, 418 Upshur St. N.W., is in charge.
