Peggy T. Cronic
MYRTLE BEACH — Peggy T. Cronic, 66, of 5897 S. King Highway, Lakewood Camp Resort, formerly of Belle Meade, Greenwood, wife of H. Ray Cronic, passed away March 11, 2001, at her home.
Born in Honea Path, she was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. W.C. Tharpe. She graduated from Greenwood High School and the College of Commerce and retired as a bookkeeper with REA. She was a member of St. Mark United Methodist Church, Greenwood, and was affiliated with Lakewood Ministries in Myrtle Beach.
Survivors include her husband of the home; a son, Tanner Cronic of Denver; a daughter, Mrs. Dave (Kim) Ifflander of Grand Blanc, Mich.; and six grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Greenwood Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Ted Ragsdale and the Rev. Ken Timmerman.
The family is at the homes of Mr. and Mrs. W.B. Noble, 122 Westgate Drive, and Mr. and Mrs. J. Wess Brown Jr., 103 Lacy Court, Hunters Creek, both in Greenwood.
Memorials may be made to Mercy Hospice of Horry County, P.O. Box 1049, Myrtle Beach, S.C. 29578.

Leon Gable
ANTREVILLE — Leon Luther Gable, 71, of 789 Lake Secession, Anderson, husband of Mildred Roberts Gable, passed away March 11, 2001, at Anderson Area Medical Center.
Born in the Barnes Station Community, Anderson County, he was a son of the late Leon Luther Gable Sr. and Sue Thompson Gable. He was a 1956 Erskine College graduate, an Air Force veteran and a retired industrial engineer with Burlington Industries. A Mason, he was a member of Dew Drop Lodge and Shiloh United Methodist Church, both in Antreville. He was a former vice president and 14-year member of The United Beagle Gun Dog Federation.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, David Bryan Gable of St. Augustine, Fla., and Donald Leon Gable of Viola, Tenn.; a daughter, Diane Schmuck of Antreville; two stepdaughters, Cristi B. Chapman of Anderson and Lori B. Collins of Belton; a sister, Cornelia G. Bowen of Antreville; and seven grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Shiloh United Methodist Church. Burial with Masonic rites will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation is from 6-7:30 Wednesday at Harris Funeral Home, Abbeville.
The family is at the home.
Memorials may be made to Shiloh United Methodist Church, Highway 184, Antreville, S.C. 29620.

Ruby Lee Griffin
NINETY SIX — Ruby Lee Griffin, 69, of 113 Davis Drive, wife of William Griffin, passed away March 12, 2001, at Self Memorial Hospital in Greenwood.
Born in Ridge Spring, she was a daughter of the late John Adam and Mary Ella Harris. She was a homemaker and a member of Marshall Chapel Baptist Church and the Women’s Aid Society.
Survivors include her husband; three sons, William Griffin Jr., Isaiah Griffin and Freddie Lee Griffin, all of Ninety Six; a brother, Isaiah Perry of Ninety Six; and five grandchildren.
The family is at the home.
Services will be announced by Robinson and Son Mortuary Inc., Greenwood, which is in charge.

Helen Freeman Hartgraves
AIKEN — Helen Freeman Hartgraves, 84, of 3335 Wise Creek Lane, widow of the late Rev. A.L. Hartgraves, passed away March 12, 2001, at Aiken Regional Medical Center.
Born in Neelyville, Mo., she was a daughter of the late Rev. J.H. and Pearl Butler Freeman. She was a homemaker and a member of South Aiken Church of God.
Survivors include three daughters, Sharon H. Slack of Ninety Six, Janice Holdman of Aiken and Cindy Burton of Rockville; two sons, Al L. Hartgraves of Big Canoe, Ga., and Rodney Hartgraves of Cleveland, Tenn.; two brothers, the Rev. J.R. Freeman of Herperia, Calif., and Jerome Freeman of San Diego; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at South Aiken Church of God, conducted by the Rev. Bruce Fox and the Rev. David Holman. Burial will be in Southlawn Cemetery.
Visitation is from 6-8 tonight at Shellhouse Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Hartgraves Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 3330, Cleveland, Tenn. 37320.

Horace Kirkland
GREENWOOD — Horace Kirkland, 73, of 221 Ware St., widower of Bertha Mae Jones Kirkland, passed away March 12, 2001, at Self Memorial Hospital.
Born in Saluda County, he was a son of the late Alvin Olin and Katie Johnson Kirkland. He retired from Greenwood Mills Service Department, where he was a member of the Quarter Century Club. He was of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include three daughters, Frances Young and Phyllis Miller, both of Greenwood and Sandra Tucker of Ninety Six; three sons, Wyatt Loftis and Horace A. Kirkland, both of Greenwood and Steve Kirkland of Toccoa, Ga.; a brother, Olin Kirkland of Ninety Six; 25 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 Wednesday at Harley Funeral Home, conducted by Dr. Robert Miller. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are Radford Kirkland, Paul Jones, Lee Jones, Joel Jones, Freddie Kirkland, Bobby Inman, Dennis Kirkland and Raymond Kirkland.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.
The family is at the home of a daughter, Phyllis Miller, 1022 Ninety Six Highway.

Fred C. Paysinger
GREENWOOD — Fred C. Paysinger, 81, passed away March 10, 2001, at the VA Hospital in Augusta.
Born in Ninety Six, he was a son of the late Noel B. and Inez Bowers Paysinger. He was a carpenter and a World War II Navy veteran.
Survivors include two sisters, Lillian Randall and Rose Paysinger, both of Greenwood.
Graveside services will be conducted by the Rev. Mike Hammond at 2 today in Kinards Methodist Church Cemetery.

Lindburg Stevens Sr.
SALUDA — Lindburg Stevens Sr., 72, of 20 Lindburg Drive, husband of Lillie Mae Dobbs Stevens, passed away March 9, 2001, at Edgefield County Hospital.
Born in Edgefield County, he was a son of the late Clifford and Hattie Burton Stevens. He was a member of Willow Springs Baptist Church and a retired, self-employed pulpwood hauler.
Survivors include his wife of the home; seven sons, William Stevens, Lindburg Stevens Jr., Jimmy Stevens, Leon Stevens, George Stevens and Jerry Stevens, all of Saluda and Edward Stevens of Johnston; four daughters, Betty Williams and Lillie Mae Stevens, both of Saluda, Alma Stevens of Lanham, Md., and Doreatha Brunson of Chappells; two brothers, Lester Stevens of Capitol Heights, Md., and Clarence Stevens of Landover, Md.; two sisters, Alice Bush of Saluda and Alma Williams of Philadelphia; 32 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 Thursday at Willow Springs Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Dr. E.L. Cain. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 1.
Pallbearers and flower bearers are family and friends.
The family is at the home.

T’rik Labrick Washington
ABBEVILLE — T’rik Labrick Washington , 4 months, of 162 Taylor Town Road, passed away March 11, 2001, in Abbeville.
Born in Abbeville, he was a son of Antonio Willis and Norika Sakata Washington .
Survivors include his parents; and a sister, Jessica Brianna Washington of Abbeville.
Graveside services will be at 1 Wednesday in Harbinson Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. James E. Thompson.

Hattie E. Bentley
CALHOUN FALLS — Hattie Elizabeth Bentley, 70, of 122 Hickory St., passed away March 12, 2001, at Abbeville Nursing Home.
Born in Abbeville County, she was a daughter of the late Gip Williams and Rebecca Bentley. She was a homemaker and member of Mount Olive Holiness Church, Calhoun Falls, and the Women’s Aid Society No. 1.
Survivors include a daughter, Eunice Rebecca Mursier of the home; a son, Matthew Banks of the home; eight sisters, Annie R. Wilson, Grace Williams, Sadie Cade, Nancy Ashmore, Willie Green, Helen Williams and Betty Williams, all of Calhoun Falls and Essie Lester of Philadelphia; five brothers, Franklin Williams of Elberton, Ga., Archie Williams and John Williams, both of Calhoun Falls and Samuel Bentley and Floyd Bentley, both of Philadelphia; and six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 Monday at St. Peter AME Church, Abbeville, conducted by the Rev. Clinton J. Hall II, assisted by the Rev. Jo R. Jackson and the Rev. Johnnie Waller.
The body will be placed in the church at 1. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Abbeville.
Pallbearers are nephews.
Flower bearers are nieces.
Visitation is at 122 Hickory St.

Havord Simpkins
EDGEFIELD — Havord Simpkins, 52, 17 Shay St., husband of Belinda Gail Simpkins, passed away March 13, 2001, at University Hospital in Augusta.
Services will be at 1:30 today at Simmon Ridge Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. George Counts. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 12:30.
The family is at the home.

Nancy Tolbert
GREENWOOD — Nancy Red Tolbert, 73, resident of 1314 Siloam Church Road, passed away March 16, 2001 at her home.
Born in Abbeville County, September 18, 1927, she was a daughter of the late John Robert and Goldie Campbell Tolbert. She was a graduate of Greenwood High School and a 1948 graduate of Lander College with perfect attend-ance through both. She formerly taught at Greenwood High School, Southside Junior High School, Pleasant Hill and Tamassee Schools and served as Librarian at Abbeville High School. She was also formerly employed at Lander College. During her teaching career she only missed one half day to attend a nephew's funeral.
She was a member of First Baptist Church.
Miss Tolbert was predeceased by a sister, Florence T. Harley and a nephew, Peter M. Harley.
Surviving are three sisters, Mildred T. Thompson of Starr, Emmiline T. Young, with whom she made her home in Greenwood and Julia T. Morrison of Ware Shoals; nephews, Richard E. Thompson, Jr., John Hampton Harley, Robert W. Harley and John Robert Young; nieces, Florence H. McClendon, Elizabeth M. Cann, Grace Y. Warner and Royleen Y. Harley; a number of great and great-great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted 4PM Sunday from the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. J. William Harris and Rev. Steve Justice officiating.
Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Joel Martin, John C. Martin, Ed Nixon, Larry Landrum, Leland Martin, Michael Wertz, Morris Jones and Pete Godfrey. Honorary escort will be John C. Young, Dr. Joseph Logan, Robert S. Tolbert, Jr., Joseph L. Tolbert, Red T. Martin, Mrs. Kathryn Moore and Mrs. Elizabeth Byrd.
The family is at the home of Grace and Danny Warner, 1507 Mt. Moriah Road and will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 Saturday evening.
Blyth Funeral Home is in charge.

Ruby Lee Griffin
NINETY SIX — Services for Ruby Lee Griffin, of 113 Davis Drive, will be at 2 Sunday at Marshall Chapel Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Carl Wells, assisted by the Rev. Roosevelt Brooks and the Rev. Doris Brooks. The body will be placed in the church at 1. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers are deacons and trustees of the church.
Flower bearers are members of the church.
Visitation is Saturday evening at the home and at the home of a brother, Isaiah Perry, 2517 Louden Road, Ninety Six.
Robinson and Son Mortuary Inc., Greenwood, is in charge.
