GREENWOOD — Audrey Shrewsbury Perdue, 78, of 421 Dogwood Drive, wife of James B. Perdue, passed away March 18, 2001, at Self Memorial Hospital.
Born in Arista, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late Martin and Martha Susan Akers Shrewsbury. She was Presbyterian.
Survivors include her husband of the home; a daughter, Mrs. Douglas (Susan) Brown of Greenwood; a son, James C. Perdue of Greenwood; three sisters, Bernice Bolling of Matoaka, W. Va., June Graham of Princeton, W.Va., and Stella Shrewsbury of Lashmeet, W. Va.; four brothers, Oscar Shrewsbury, Dewey Shrewsbury, Carlos Shrewsbury and Glen Shrewsbury, all of Lashmeet; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 2 Wednesday in Greenwood Memorial Gardens. Visitation is from 7-8 Tuesday at Harley Funeral Home.
The family is at the home.
Memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation of South Carolina, 5000 Thurmond Mall, Suite 106, Columbia, S.C. 29201.

Patricia Ann Searles
GREENWOOD — Patricia Ann Searles, 58, of 610 Jordan St., passed away March 14, 2001, at Self Memorial Hospital.
Born in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of the late Timothy Williams and Estella Carroll Brown. She was a member of Bethel Bible Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sons, David Lockhart of Spartanburg, Willie Joe Williams of Greenwood and Larry Williams of Greenville; and six grandchildren.
Services will be at 3 Tuesday at Bethel Bible Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Randy Holloway. Burial will be in Evening Star Memorial Gardens. The body will be placed in the church at 2.
Pallbearers and flower bearers are friends of the family.
Visitation is at the home.
Percival-Tompkins Funeral Home is in charge.

Edna Louise Stoudemire
PROSPERITY — Edna Louise Ford Stoudemire, 88, of 3204 S.C. Highway 391, widow of John Carl Stoudemire, passed away March 18, 2001, at Newberry County Memorial Hospital.
Born in Pelzer, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Newton and Lennie Brock Ford. She was a member of Capers Chapel United Methodist Church. Survivors include a son, Bobby J. Stoudemire of Greenwood; a daughter, Edna S. Boozer of Prosperity; three grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Services will be at 4 Tuesday at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home, with burial in Newberry Memorial Gardens.
Visitation is from 2:30-4 Tuesday at the funeral home.

James C. Ward
UPPER SANDUSKY, Ohio — James C. Ward, 82, of 515 Glen Haven St., husband of Violet I. “Dolly” Karg Ward, passed away March 17, 2001, at his home.
Born in Wharton, he was a son of the late Earl and Madelon Bristoll Ward. Graduating from Carey High School in 1936, he started building homes with his father-in-law in 1945 and went into business for himself with Modern Home & Building Enterprise in 1957. He was an original partner and developer of Upper United Development Corp. and Kilbourne Corp. and owner and developer of Glen Haven Corp. He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, where he served on the consistory, was a former deacon and helped to develop Camp Trinity. He was a 50-year member of Warpole Lodge 176 F&AM and McCutchen Chapter 96 RAM, a member of Upper Sandusky Council 98 F&SM and a former member of Upper Sandusky Chamber of Commerce and the Community Improvement Corp. He also served on the park board.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Gary Ward and Howard Ward, both of Upper Sandusky; three daughters, Mrs. Richard (Joyce) Shelton of Greenwood, S.C., Mrs. Rodney (Jeanette) Van Sickle of Fremont and Mrs. Mark (Linda) Pell of Battle Creek, Mich.; a brother, Richard Ward of Carey; two sisters, Mary Belle McCarley and Madelon Tucker, both of Carey; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Lucas Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Charles Preston and the Rev. Charles Steward. Graveside services, with full military rites, will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Visitation is from 2-4 and 7-9 Tuesday at the funeral home, with a Masonic service at 8:45 p.m.
Memorials may be made to Wyandot County Home Health or Trinity United Church of Christ.
Lucas Funeral Home is in charge.

Julia Mae Wells
PLUM BRANCH — Services for Evangelist Julia Mae Crawford Wells, of Route 1, Old Augusta Road, will be at 1 Tuesday at Pine Grove AME Church, conducted by the Rev. W.O. Vance and Evangelist Valerie P. Gilchrist. The body will be placed in the church at noon. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers are nephews.
Flower bearers are nieces and ushers of the church.
The family is at the home.

Helen Brown
GREENWOOD — Helen Barbee Brown, 83, formerly of 114 Hill & Dale, widow of Lewis P. Brown, passed away Feb. 28, 2001 at Wesley Commons.
Born in Catawba, N.C., she was a daughter of the late R.R. and Ora Barbee Barbee. She was a high school graduate and attended Piedmont Technical College and Lander College. She retired from Greenwood Mills, Mathews Plant. A member of Callie Self Memorial Baptist Church, she was also a member and Past Worthy Matron of the Callie Self Chapter 199, Order of the Eastern Star, and Greenwood Mills Quarter Century Club.
Survivors include a daughter, Charlotte Brown Owens of Greenwood; a son, Richard L. Brown of Greenwood; a sister, Frances B. Henderson of Ninety Six; two brothers, Alvin “Bud” Barbee of Greenwood and Alton “Babe” Barbee of Marietta, Ga.; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be conducted by the Rev. Leland Scott at 2 Friday at Blyth Funeral Home. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are J.W. Walker, James Dove, Paul Burdette, Ray Riddle, Todd Bishop, James Paul Barbee, Alton Barbee Jr. and Raymond Barbee.
Honorary escorts are members of Callie Self Chapter 199 of the Order of the Eastern Star, along with Christine Pinson, Maedale Ballew, Ila Burgess, Virginia Rogers, Louise Williams, Mary Stennett, Bobbie Gunter and Dot Voiselle.
Visitation is at the funeral home from 1-2 Friday.
The family is at the home of Charlotte Owens, 109 Rock Creek Drive in Chinquapin.

Lester Davis
RIDGE SPRING — Lester “Dave” Davis, 69, passed away Feb. 27, 2001. Born in Statesboro, Ga., he was a son of Louise Lane DeCamilla. He was an Air Force veteran and a former minister of Children’s of God’s Grace.
Survivors include his mother; four sons, Bennie Davis, Lester Davis, Jimmy Davis and Tim Bansavage; three daughters, Jeanette Manor, Darlene Davenport and Jacqueline Redd; 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 7 Friday at Hatcher Funeral Home, Langley, with burial in New Hope Cemetery, Statesboro.
Visitation is from 6-9 tonight at the funeral home.

Roger D. Flemming
ANDERSON — Roger Dale Flemming, 54, of Hartwell, Ga., formerly of Anderson, passed away Feb. 27, 2001, at his home.
Born in Anderson, he was a son of the late Talmadge H. and Neta Shaw Flemming. He was an Air Force veteran, a former employee of Liberty Life Insurance Co. and The Anderson Independent, and a member of Parkwood Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Erik Flemming of Anderson; a daughter, Emily Flemming of Anderson; a brother, Dick Flemming of Phoenix; and a sister, Becky Covan of Ware Shoals.
Services will be at 3 today at Cox Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Tim Crawford. Burial will be in Belton Cemetery.
Visitation is from 2-3 at the funeral home.

Rose Stevens Greene
EDGEFIELD — Rose Stevens Greene, 81, passed away Feb. 27, 2001, at Edgefield Health Care Center.
Born in Edgefield County, she was a daughter of the late Felix and Cornelia Stevens. She was a member of Willow Spring Baptist Church and the Women Aide Society No. 126.
Survivors include four daughters, Joann Greene of Edgefield and Joyce Brown, Constance Redwood and Barbara Greene, all of Brooklyn, N.Y.; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 Saturday at Willow Spring Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Dr. E.L. Cain, pastor, and the Rev. Sam Middleton. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family is at the home of a daughter, Joann Greene, 12 Faulkner Mountain Road, Edgefield.

Essie Miller Hadden
SPARTANBURG — Essie Miller Hadden, 73, of 104 Hadden Heights Road, widow of Robert Ashley Hadden, passed away Feb. 27, 2001, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
A native of Spartanburg, she was a daughter of the late Luster Joseph and Ruth Willard Miller. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Spartanburg, the Ann Anderson Sunday School Class and the Tallula Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star. She retired from Bell South after 37 years of service and later worked at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center for 10 years. She was also a member of Bell South Telephone Pioneers.
Survivors include a son, Thomas E. Hadden of Spartanburg; and two brothers, Robert R. Miller and Charles C. Miller, both of Greenwood.
Graveside services will be conducted by the Rev. Sal Barone at 1 today in Nazareth Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Stephen M. Kessler
RIDGE SPRING — Stephen Marc Kessler, 47, of 401 Boatwright St., husband of Karen Stone Kessler, passed away Feb. 25, 2001.
Born in Berkley, W.Va., he was a son of Oliver Clarence and Peble Wickline Kessler. He was an antique/auto dealer.
Survivors include his wife; his parents; a sister, Diane Adams; and a brother Richard Kessler.
Services will be private.
Memorials may be made to the Humane Society.
