Wendell Kirkland
BATESBURG-LEESVILLE — Wendell Kirkland, 60, of 256 Highland Ave., husband of Olivia Shealy Kirkland, passed away Feb. 27, 2001.
Born in Saluda County, he was a son of the late Henry Louie and Sudie Mae Fallow Kirkland. He was a member of Highland Avenue Pentecostal Holiness Church, where he was president of the Men’s Fellowship. He served in the National Guard.
He was first married to the late Brenda Smith Kirkland.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Ramona Luther of Irmo and Nina Kirkland of Columbia; two brothers, H.L. Kirkland and Valmore Kirkland, both of Batesburg-Leesville; six sisters, Peggy Derrick and Betty Jean Bedenbaugh, both of Batesburg-Leesville, Thelma Rushton of Saluda, Nettie Mae McCarty of Ninety Six, Edna Welchel of Greer and Patricia Schumpert of Columbia; and two granddaughters.
Services will be conducted by the Rev. Tommy Estill and the Rev. Ray Massey at 2:30 Friday at Highland Avenue Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Burial will be in Nazareth United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at Milton Shealy Funeral Home.
The family is at the home.

ABBEVILLE — Robert Claude Link, 94, of 806 Highway 72 West, husband of Gladys Hall Link, passed away Feb. 28, 2001, at Abbeville Nursing Home.
Visitation is from 7-9 Friday at Harris Funeral Home.
The family is at the home of Mr. and Mrs. William Saxon, 797 Old Calhoun Falls Way, Abbeville.
Services will be announced by Harris Funeral Home, which is in charge.

Sylvester ‘Skeeta’ Mosley
WARD — Sylvester “Skeeta” Mosley, 44, passed away Feb. 28, 2001, at the University Hospital in Augusta.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was a son of Mattie Mosley Gantt. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his mother of Ward; four sons, Sylvester K. Mosley, Sylvester T. Mosley, Shamar Mosley, all of Brooklyn and Justin Key of Johnston; two daughters, Debra S. Mosley and Shaquala Mosley, both of Brooklyn; three brothers, Cornell Gantt and Eric Gantt, both of Ward and James Robinson of Ridge Spring; a sister, Katherine Gantt of Leesville; maternal grandmother, Rosa Lee Mosley of Ward; and four grandchildren.
The family is at the home of his mother, Mattie Mosley Gantt, Route 1, Box 80, Ward.
Services will be announced by Butler and Sons Funeral Home, Saluda, which is in charge.

Virginia E. Newton
NINETY SIX — Virginia Ellison Newton, 79, formerly of 15 Bolt Circle, widow of Gene Newton, passed away Feb. 28, 2001, at National Health Care Center of Greenwood.
Born in South Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Ernest and Katie Leopard Ellison. She retired from Oxford Shirt Plant and was a member of Temple Baptist Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. David (Linda) Ouzts of Ninety Six, Mrs. Kenneth (Nancy) Collins of Savannah, Ga., and Norma McCullough of West Union; a son, Jay Pearson of Cadiz, Ky.; a sister, Mrs. Bill (Ernestine) Payton of Ninety Six; 10 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
Services will be at 3 Friday at Harley Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Charles Owens and the Rev. Ben Edwards. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Joey Turner, Bob Still, Richard Stevens, Eddie Friar, Steven Shock, James Jones, Roy Horne and Edward Butler.
Honorary escorts are the men of Temple Baptist Church and Ninety Six Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.
The family is at the home of a daughter, Linda Ouzts, 8202 Highway 246 South, Ninety Six.

Georgia Lee Smith
SALUDA — Georgia Lee Holloway Smith, 56, of 157 May Branch Road, widow of Paul Smith, passed away Feb. 28, 2001, at her home.
Born in Saluda County, she was a daughter of the late Tommie and Ora Lee Davis Holloway. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church and the Women’s Home Aide Society.
Survivors include two sons, James A. Holloway and Paul Smith Jr., both of Saluda; two daughters, Helen Watkins and Georgia Faye Smith, both of Saluda; three brothers, Johnny Holloway, Tommie Holloway and Joe A. Holloway, all of Saluda; two sisters, Zola Miles of Waterbury, Conn., and Eva Murphy of Hempstead, N.Y.; 12 grandchildren, one reared in the home, James T. Holloway of Saluda; and six great-grandchildren.
The family is at the home.
Services will be announced by Butler and Sons Funeral Home, which is in charge.

Kathleen Frihart
GREENWOOD — Kathleen Bennett Frihart, 76, of 202 Janeway, widow of Marlin Keith Frihart, passed away March 19, 2001, at her home.
Visitation is at Blyth Funeral Home from 7-9 Wednesday. The family is at the home of Kirk and Beth Ann Husser, 202 Janeway.
Services will be announced by Blyth Funeral Home, which is in charge.

Shellie Black Jones
DUBLIN, Ga. — Shellie Black Jones, 97, widow of Albert E. Jones, passed away March 18, 2001, in Dublin.
Born in Johnson County, she was a daughter of the late Gene Black and Elzie Ann Underwood Black Bussell. She lived in Laurens County, S.C., most of her life and was a homemaker and a Baptist.
Survivors include a daughter, Frances J. Haywood of Dublin; a son, Alfred A. Jones of Greenwood, S.C.; two sisters, Mary L. Jones of Forsyth and Bonnie Meeks of Bartow, Fla.; three brothers, C.M. Bussell of Garfield, Ray Bussell of Scott and Robert D. Bussell of Chaumont, N.Y.; 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Douglas Bush. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens, Greenwood.
Pallbearers are grandsons and great-grandsons.
Visitation is from 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Adolph Joseph Klein
SUMTER — Adolph Joseph Klein, age 83, husband of 57 years to Corne Breland Klein, passed away on Saturday, March 17, 2001 at his residence.
He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, the son of the late Bernard and Bertha Minnoch Klein. He retired from Maxon Shirt Corporation. He served in the Army Air Corps in World War II. He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church.
Surviving in addition to his wife are: One son, Adolph Joseph Klein, Jr. of Columbia, SC; Hooper of Kenner, LA; Two Grandchildren, Jason Klein of Charlotte, NC and Jennifer Klein of Raleigh, NC.
Funeral services were held on Monday, March 19, 2001, the Rev. Tony A. Metze and the Rev. Ron Briggs officiated. A Graveside service was held on Monday, March 19, 2001 at 3:00 pm in the Drs. Creek Cemetery in Walterboro, SC.
Pallbearers were William D. McLeod, David Waldkirch, Don Hoyt, Edgar Stetson, Emery Vallier and Orin Mahaffey.
Honorary pallbearers were the Members of St. James Lutheran Church, 1137 Alice Drive, Sumter, SC 29150.
Memorials may be made to The Organ Fund, St. James Lutheran Church, 1137 Alice Drive, Sumter, SC 29150.
Bullock Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Murray R. ‘Bo’ Lemmond
NEWBERRY — Murray R. “Bo” Lemmond, 54, of Corrigan, Texas , formerly of Newberry, S.C., husband of Ann Gilman Lemmond, Texas , passed away March 16, 2001, in Texas .
Born in Brunswick, Ga., he was a son of Lura Lemmond and the late Murray Walter Lemmond. A graduate of the Baptist College of Charleston and Wake Forest University, he was involved with Corrigan-Camden High School and had assisted with the Corrigan-Camden cross country team for several years. He was a member of Union Springs Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of the home; his mother of Waycross, Ga.; a son, Richard G. Lemmond of Corrigan; a daughter, Jenifer I. Lemmond of Corrigan; a brother, Walter “Mac” Lemmond of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; and two sisters, Lura Carolyn Rankin of Jacksonville, Fla., and Nancy Haynes of Nashville, Tenn.
Services will be at 2 Thursday at Bush River Baptist Church, Newberry, conducted by the Rev. Rhett Wilson and the Rev. Glenn Buie. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 1.
The family is at the home of Mrs. Gayle McKittrick Guy, 102 Guy Farm Circle, Brehmer Road, Newberry.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Odell McGrier Jr., 61, of 1101 Georgetown Drive, husband of Clara McGrier, passed away March 19, 2001, at Presbyterian Hospital.
Born in Calhoun Falls, S.C., he was a son of the late Odell McGrier Sr. and Collie Hall McGrier.
Services will be announced by Beasley Funeral Home, Charlotte, which is in charge.

GREENWOOD — Viola Jackson Tyree, 91, of Eden Gardens, widow of James Thomas Tyree, passed away March 19, 2001, at Self Memorial Hospital.

James Bussey
VALDOSTA, Ga. — James Bussey passed away March 15, 2001, in Valdosta. Born in Greenwood, S.C., he was a son of Charles and Lucille Wimbush of Waverly, Fla.
Survivors include a daughter, Helen Jones of Greenville, S.C.; a stepdaughter, Sheila Williams of Greenville; four brothers, Joseph Young and Emanuel Mansel, both of Greenwood, Demores Young of Anderson and Tommy Mansel of Cocoa Beach, Fla.; two sisters, Maggie Robertson and Dorothy Young, both of Atlanta; and five grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Valdosta.

Born in McCormick County, she was a daughter of the late Clifton and Willie Mae Walker Morton. She was a homemaker and a member of New Hope Baptist Church and New Hope Burial Aid Society.
Survivors include a son, Bobby L. New of McCormick; a niece reared in the home, Judy M. Williams of McCormick; a sister, Annette Morton of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two brothers, Billy Morton of McCormick and Bobby Morton of Washington , D.C.; and three grandchildren.
