James Henry Witt

GREENWOOD — James Henry Witt, 63, of Gilliam Court, widower of Ruby Lyons Witt, passed away March 2, 2001, at Self Memorial Hospital.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was the son of Fannie Lee Chapman and the late Robert Norris. He was a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, where he served in the Senior Choir. He was also a former member of the Singing Angels, Harmonizing Four, Angeltone, Fantistic Five and James Smith and the Southern Wonders. He was retired from the NSO Resins Co.
Survivors include his first wife, Remonia Adams Witt of Greenwood; a daughter, Lynda Witt of New York City; five sons, Gregory Witt, James Anthony Witt, Darryl Witt and Willie James Witt, all of Greenwood and Timmothy Witt of McCormick; three step-sons, Willie Jerome Sheard, Johney Frank Sheard and Darryl Timmothy Sheard, all of Greenwood; two step-daughters, Dorothy Jean Sheard and Kimmbary Sheard, both of Greenwood; two brothers, Robert Norris of Washington , D.C. and Marvin Witt of North Carolina; a sister, Carolyn Smiley of Greenwood; eight grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.
Services will be at 12 Tuesday at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church conducted by Bishop Emanuel Spearman, assisted by the Rev. Otis Cunningham. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers and Flower bearers will be friends of the family.
Visitation is from 7-8 Monday at Robinson & Son Mortuary Inc.
The family is at the home of a son, Wildwood Estates Lot 177.
Robinson & Son Mortuary Inc. is in charge.

Lem Jackson Aiken
DONALDS — Services for Lem Jackson Aiken, of 159 Mount Lebanon Church Road, will be conducted by the Rev. Willie Killingsworth at 1 Tuesday at Brown and Walker Funeral Home, Abbeville. Burial will be in Mount Zion AME Church Cemetery, Hodges.
Pallbearers are Joe Hill, Jimmy Aiken, James Bobo, Hugh Tolbert, Charles Tolbert, John O. Aiken and Melvin Davis.
Flower bearers are friends of the family.
The family is at the home.

Alice H. Armstrong
LAURENS — Alice H. Armstrong, 89, of 272 Armstrong Road, widow of Raymond Armstrong Sr., passed away March 4, 2001, at her home.
Born in Greenville County, she was a daughter of the late John and Margaret Robinson Hovis. She was a member of Union Baptist Church and a retired employee of Pilgrim Curtain Co.
Survivors include two sons, Ralph R. Armstrong of Ware Shoals and Charles E. Armstrong of Tallahassee, Fla.; two daughters, Janette A. Greenwood of Merrill, Mich., and Kathy A. Johnson of Laurens; a sister, Ora Henderson of Ware Shoals; 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Services will be conducted by the Rev. Bryant Sims at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Union Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers are Charles S. Armstrong, Chris Armstrong, Josh Johnson, Wayne Ziegnfuss, Jim Melton, Lynn Young and Mike Hamby.
Visitation is from 7-9 Tuesday at Parker-White Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Piedmont.

Joe A. Cooper
WARE SHOALS — Joe A. Cooper, 78, of Ekom Beach Road, widower of Elizabeth Sprouse Cooper, passed away March 3, 2001, at his home.
Born in Laurens County, he was a son of the late Herbert and Eunice Cooper. He was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church, a World War II Army veteran and a retired employee of Riegel Textile Corp. He was a member of Brewerton Masonic Lodge 183, where he was secretary for 24 years.
Survivors include a daughter, Marcelle Owens of Ware Shoals; a grandchild and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 3 Tuesday in Mount Olive Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Floyd Hellams and the Rev. James Bannister.
Masonic rites and visitation will follow.
The family is at the home of Earl and Marcelle Owens, 9408 Ekom Beach Road.
Memorials may be made to Mount Olive Cemetery Fund.
Parker-White Funeral Home is in charge.

Wilbur Dickert
GREENWOOD — Wilbur Wesley Dickert, 79, resident of 708 Keisler Drive, husband of Marjorie Bennett Dickert, passed away March 4, 2001 at Self Memorial Hospital.
Born in Greenwood County, March 18, 1921, he was a son of the late Malcolm Wesley and Cora McDonald Dickert. He was a graduate of Greenwood High School and served in the US Naval Air Corps during WWII. Mr. Dickert retired in 1982 from Duke Power as operations and maintenance supervisor after 35 years service.
A member of Tranquil United Methodist Church and the Brockwell Sunday School Class, he was also a member of Greenwood Masonic Lodge #91 A.F.M., the Hejaz Shrine Temple, A.A.O.N.M.S., American Legion Post 20, and Voiture #435 of 40 & 8 of Greenwood.
Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are a daughter, Mrs. Wayne A. (Linda) Bearden of Greenwood; a sister, Mrs. Albert (Elizabeth) Gambrell of Greenwood; two grandchildren, Allison L. Bearden and Brian W. Bearden, both of Greenwood.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Tuesday from Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Robert Cannon officiating.
Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Johnny Dickert, Julias Dickert, Tommy Bennett, Steven Holt, Branson Holt, Robert Suggs, and Mark Swygert.
Honorary escort will be members of the Duke Power Retirees Club and Duke Power Retirees.
The family is at the home on Keisler Drive and will receive friends at the funeral home from 10 to 11 am Tuesday.
The family requests that flowers be omitted and memorials made to Shriners Children's Hospital, 915 W. Faris Rd., Greenville, SC 29605, or to The American Heart Association, Columbia Office, P.O. Box 6604, Columbia, SC 29260.
Blyth Funeral home is in charge.

Calvin Wesley Haley Sr.
GREENWOOD — Services for Calvin Wesley Haley Sr., of 302 Willow Brook Rd., will be at 3 Tuesday at Mays United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Willie J. Key, assisted by the Rev. Richard Kinlock and the Rev. Raymond Adams, burial will be in Ninety Six Community Cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 2.
Pallbearers are members of the United Voices and James Lewis.
Flower bearers are members of the United Methodist Women.
Visitation is from 7-8 at Mays United Methodist Church.
Additional survivors include a son, Calvin Wesley Haley Jr. of Houston.
The family is at the home.

Curtis ‘Cheese’ Harrison
ABBEVILLE — Curtis “Cheese” Harrison, 52, of 105 Flower St., husband of Bessie J. Harrison, passed away March 3, 2001, at Self Memorial Hospital in Greenwood.
Born in McCormick County, he was a son of Janie Mae Harrison and the late David Harrison. He was a member of Haigler Street Church of Christ, a 1968 graduate of J.S. Wright High School and an employee of CSX Railroad.
Survivors include his wife of the home; his mother of Abbeville; five daughters, Jocelyn J. Harrison and Diandrea J. Harrison, both of the home, Lytina Harrison, Marie Harrison and Christina Harrison, all of Abbeville; a son, Antonio Harrison of Abbeville; and eight grandchildren.
The family is at the home.
Services will be announced by Brown and Walker Funeral Home, which is in charge.

Savannah D. Harrison
GREENWOOD — Services for Savannah Harrison, of 311 Mineral St., will be at 2 Wednesday at Willow Springs Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Dr. E.L. Cain. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 1.
Pallbearers are Lenwood Ramsey, David Belcher, Keith Harrison, Robert Palmore, Jerry Smith and Brady Ramsey.
Flower bearers are Valerie Moss, Nikki Sprowl, Laura Mae Sprowl, Joetta Lindsay, Diane Calhoun, Charlene Funches, Shanta Williams, Alexis Quarles, Teresa Hackett and Erika Thomas.
Visitation is Tuesday evening at the home.

ABBEVILLE — Services for David Howard Thomas Lomax, of 1508 Old Calhoun Falls Road, will be at 2 Wednesday at Fairfield Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Michael Peppers and the Rev. Johnnie Waller. The body will be placed in the church at 1. Burial will be in Cypress AME Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers are grandsons and nephews.
Flower bearers are granddaughters and nieces.
Visitation is from 7-8 Tuesday at Brown and Walker Funeral Home.

Donald Ouzts
NINETY SIX — Donald Oscar Ouzts, 58, of 137 Coldwater Drive, passed away March 3, 2001, at the Veterans Administrative Medical Center in Augusta, Ga.
Born in Greenville, he was a son of Elizabeth Gilreath Ouzts and the late Oscar C. Ouzts. He was a Navy veteran of Vietnam.
Survivors include his mother of Ninety Six; a son, Donnie Ouzts of Sterling, Va.; a daughter, Lesley Ouzts Coggins of Greer; a stepdaughter, Angela Young of Greenwood; and five grandchildren.
Services will be conducted by the Rev. Randy Ouzts at 2 Tuesday at Blyth Funeral Home. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are Roger Griffin, Jessie Williams, Tom Cockrell, Tommy McDowell, Jimmy Johnson, Johnny Cockrell and Milton Harter.
Visitation is at the funeral home from 7-9 tonight.
The family is at the home of his mother, 103 Draper Street, Ninety Six.

Willie Ryans
GREENWOOD — Willie Ryans, 90, of 708 Pearl St., widower of Essie Senior Ryans and Sarah Mathis Ryans, passed away March 4, 2001, at Self Memorial Hospital.
Born in Edgefield County, he was a son of the late Gus and Lula Morton Ryans. He was a retired employee of Duke Power and a member of Springfield Baptist Church, Edgefield, where he was a deacon.
Survivors include three sons, Willie Ryans Jr. of Asheville, N.C., Thomas Ryans of Washington , D.C., and Larry B. Ryans Sr. of Greenwood; two daughters, Lethia Day of Oxen Hill, Md., and Annie Harrison of Greenwood; three sisters, Nellie Mackie of Augusta and Kelly Price and Rosanna Robinson, both of Greenwood; nine grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
The family is at the home of a daughter, Annie Harrison, 704 Pearl St.
Services will be announced by Percival-Tompkins Funeral Home, which is in charge.

Emma Wideman
GREENWOOD — Emma Williams Wideman, 86, of 314 Ridgeway, widow of Leslie L. Wideman, passed away March 4, 2001, at her home.
Born in Easley, she was a daughter of the late R.A. and Sarah Eugenia Spence Williams. She retired from Abney Mills, Grendel Plant, and she was a member of Jordan Memorial Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Joyce W. Hagood, with whom she made her home; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at 4 Tuesday at Blyth Funeral Home, with the Rev. Billy Huff and the Rev. Joseph Ouzts officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are Eric Bryant, Paul Williams, Dan Wideman, Jeff Brock, Chandler Bryant, Lloyd Harrison and Bobby Wideman.
Visitation is from 3-4 Tuesday at the funeral home.
The family is at the home.
Memorials may be made to Hospice Care of the Piedmont, 408 W. Alexander Ave., Greenwood, S.C. 29646.
