Katie Davis
PHILADELPHIA — Katie Davis, 79, passed away Feb. 28, 2001, at her home.
Born in Cross Hill, S.C., she was a daughter of the late Lucinda Bunton Davis and James Davis. Educated in Greenwood County, S.C., schools, she lived in Philadelphia most of her life and was a member of Triumph Baptist Church for 28 years.
Survivors include a sister, Beulah Davis of Philadelphia; a niece reared in the home as a sister, Eva Mae Richardson Dixon; and other nieces and nephews.
Services will be from 9-11 a.m. Thursday at Triumph Baptist Church.

Gertrude Olivia Elledge
WARE SHOALS — Gertrude Olivia Elledge, 96, formerly of Route 1, Mount Bethel Road, passed away March 4, 2001, at National Health Care in Laurens.
Born in Laurens County, she was a daughter of the late John Robert and Bessie Lou Dodson Elledge. She was a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church and a retired employee of Riegel Textile Corp.
Survivors include a brother, Ryland Elledge of Laurens; and two sisters, Blanche O’Dell of Ware Shoals and Ruth Crawford of Naples, Fla.
Services will be conducted by the Rev. Todd Horton at 3 Wednesday at Poplar Springs Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 2.
Pallbearers are Michael Madden, John Melvin Elledge, Lamar Elledge, Randy Willis, Barry Watkins, Jay Madden and Brad Thomas.
Visitation will be from 2-3 Wednesday at the church. Family members are at their respective homes.
Memorials may be made to Poplar Springs Baptist Church Building Fund.
Parker-White Funeral Home is in charge.

Eva McGookin
GREENWOOD — Eva Josephine Getsinger McGookin, 97, of 414 Lupo Drive, widow of Thomas Hugh McGookin, passed away March 5, 2001, at Self Memorial Hospital.
Born in Abbeville County, she was a daughter of the late Jesse Robert and Edna Jane Ashley Getsinger. She was of the Presbyterian faith.
Survivors include four daughters, Jane McGookin and Elizabeth McGookin, both of the home and Joyce Smith and Eva Kathleen McGookin, both of Greenwood; a sister, Ruby Bell Reagan of Greenwood; two grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and a great-great grandchild.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Edgewood Cemetery, with the Rev. Ray Pilgram officiating.
The family is at the home.

Willie Ryans Sr.
GREENWOOD — Services for Deacon Willie Ryans Sr., of 708 Pearl St., will be at 2 Thursday at Springfield Baptist Church, Edgefield County, conducted by the Rev. Earnest Gordon, assisted by the Rev. Emanuel Spearman. The body will be placed in the church at 1. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers are grandsons and nephews.
Flower bearers are granddaughters and nieces.
Visitation is Wednesday evening at the home of a daughter, Annie Harrison, 704 Pearl St.

GREENWOOD — Services for Cindy L. Quarles, of 807 Neel Ave., will be at 2 Wednesday at Tabernacle Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Otis Cunningham, assisted by the Rev. Norris Turner. The body will be placed in the church at 1. Burial will be in Mount Olive Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Tommy Lewis, Calvin Lewis Jr., Richard Wells, James Wells Jr., Wallace Lewis Jr. and Nelson Mason Jr.
Flower bearers are Gloria Wells, Lorrie Wells, Caitlin Wells, Kim Mason, Pam Mason, Cassandra Mason, Stacy Lewis, Kiesha Lewis, Lisa Timpson and Madeline Adams.
Honorary escorts are members of Brewer High School Class of 1968.
A daughter of Carrie Lewis Harrison, Mrs. Quarles was a former employee of Greenwood Mills.
The family is at the home.

PHILADELPHIA — Katie Davis, 79, passed away Feb. 28, 2001, at her home.

Shirley Counts
GREENWOOD — Shirley Ellisor Counts, 64, of 226 Chatham Drive, wife of Henry O. Counts, passed away March 6, 2001, at her home.
Born in Savannah, Ga., she was a daughter of the late Alfred and Hattie Trull Ellisor. She graduated from Cold Springs High School, Cold Springs, Texas , and attended Newberry College. She was a member of St. Mark United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband of the home; a daughter, Cathy Whiting of Matthews, N.C.; a son, Gregory Counts of Charlotte, N.C.; a brother, Alfred Ellisor Jr., of Savannah; two sisters, Penny Lovett of Guyton, Ga., and Laverne Cates of Rincon, Ga.; and two grandchildren.
Services will be conducted by the Rev. Ken Timmerman at 11 a.m. Thursday at Blyth Funeral Home. Entombment will be in the Oakbrook Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Pallbearers are nephews.
Visitation is from 6-7:30 tonight at the funeral home. The family is at the home in Wellington Green.
Memorials may be made to St. Mark United Methodist Church Building Fund, 550 Bypass 72 N.W., Greenwood, S.C. 29649 or Hospice Care of the Piedmont, 408 W. Alexander Ave., Greenwood, S.C. 29646.

Curtis ‘Cheese’ Harrison
ABBEVILLE — Services for Curtis “Cheese” Harrison, of 105 Flower St., will be conducted by Brother Raymond Pressley at 2 Thursday at Haigler Street Church of Christ. The body will be placed in the church at 1.
Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memory Garden.
Pallbearers are James Jackson, Ollie Dawson and members of J.S. Wright High School Class of 1968.
Flower bearers are Johnnie Mae Sutton, Gloria Jean Quarles and members of J.S. Wright High School Class of 1968.
Additional survivors include three sisters, Georgia Mae Devette and Ruth Ramey, both of Abbeville and Debra Robinson of Mount Carmel; and a brother, James Harrison of Barnwell, Ga.
The family is at the home.

Willie ‘Jank’ Jones
McCORMICK — Willie “Jank” Jones, 89, passed away March 6, 2001, at McCormick Health Care Center.
Born in Edgefield County, he was a son of the late Mrs. Sallie Jones. He was a retired logger and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include six sons, James Willie Jones, Bobby Jones and Luther Jones, all of Chicago, Howard Jones of Rochester, N.Y., and Jasper Jones and Nathan Jones, both of McCormick; and four daughters, Pearlie Mae McDuffie of Atlanta, Ruth Brown of Greenwood and Claudia Jones and Dorothy Middleton, both of McCormick.
The family is at the home of a daughter, Claudia Jones, West Towne Apartments, A-4.
Services will be announced by Walker Funeral Home, which is in charge.

Nellie Radden
GREENVILLE — Nellie Watts Radden, widow of Eddie Radden, passed away March 5, 2001, at a nursing home in Greenville.
Born in Laurens County, she was a daughter of the late Archie and Alice Cunningham Watts. She was a former member of Good Hope Baptist Church, Waterloo.
Survivors include a daughter, Janice Michelle Milton of Seattle; three brothers, Carl Watts of Washington , D.C., Joseph Watts of Greenville and George Watts of Greenwood; and five sisters, Lillie Mae Brown of Florence, Mozelle Milton of Washington , D.C., Catherine Cates of Cambria Heights, N.Y., Eunice Kilgore of Greenville and Dr. Ann Morris of Chesapeake, Va.
Services will be at 1 Thursday at Tabernacle Baptist Church, Greenville, conducted by the Rev. Lewis Duckett, assisted by the Rev. Vincent Thomas, pastor. Burial will be in Greenville.
The family is at the home of a sister, Eunice Kilgore, Jacobs Road, Greenville.

GREENWOOD — Larry LeMichael “Mike” Banks, 33, formerly of Greenwood and Greenville, passed away May 10, 2001, in Salisbury, N.C.
The family is at the home of his father, Henry Cobb, 108 Segers Drive, Greenwood.
Services will be announced by Harley Funeral Home, which is in charge.

Pick Berry
NINETY SIX — William Pick Berry, 89, of 3501 Highway 246 S., widower of Alice Stribling Berry, passed away May 10, 2001, at Wesley Commons in Greenwood.
Born in Saluda County, he was a son of the late John and Sophie Ridlehoover Berry. He retired from Greenwood Mills, Ninety Six Plant, and was a member of Greenwood Mills Quarter Century Club. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church and the Men’s Bible Class.
Surviving are four sons, Ray Berry of Milledge, Ga., Gary Berry and Danny Berry of Ninety Six and Howard Berry of Greenwood; two sisters, Vera B. Roper of Piedmont and Cornelia B. Dozier of Saluda; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 3 Saturday at Blyth Funeral Home, Greenwood, conducted by the Revs. Charles Owens and Tommy Cartledge. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are grandsons and nephews.
Visitation is at the funeral home from 2-3 Saturday.
The family is at the home.
Memorials may be made to Hospice Care of the Piedmont, 408 W. Alexander Ave., Greenwood, S.C. 29646.

George Boozer Jr.
PHILADELPHIA — George Boozer Jr. of 2712 N. 23rd St., husband of Judy Brockman Boozer, passed away April 30, 2001.
Born in Ninety Six, he was a son of the late George and Louise Boozer. He graduated from Brewer High School in 1956, served in the Army and retired from Philadelphia Gas Works, Philadelphia Water Department and ACME. He was a member of the Cathedral of Faith Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of the home; three sons, George of Las Vegas, John of Philadelphia and Isaiah of the home; four grandchildren; and three sisters, Effie T. Williams of Greenwood and Maggie J. Werts and Carrie B. Scott, both of Philadelphia.
Services were conducted Saturday at the Cathedral of Faith Baptist Church, by the Rev. Wofford Lomax Sr. Burial was in Mount Peace Cemetery.
Baker Funeral Home was in charge.

Otis C. Brooks
PHILADELPHIA — Otis C. Brooks, of 2833 N. 25th St., husband of Kay Frances Davis Brooks, passed away May 9, 2001, at his home.
Born in Greenwood, he was a son of Pearlena Brooks Anderson and the late Columbus Brooks and stepson of Wyman Anderson. He retired as a barber and from Cordor Co. and Tyco Plastics. He attended Greenwood County schools and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife of the home; his mother and stepfather of Greenwood; six sons, Otis Brooks, Kevin Brooks and Patrick Brooks, all of Atlantic City, N.J., Kirk Brooks, Richard Brooks and Michael Brooks, all of Philadelphia; four daughters, Jacqueline B. Greene, Cheryl B. Sanders and Marsheila Brooks, all of Philadelphia and Barbara Simon of Wilmington, Del.; three sisters, Alice B. Goodman and Mary B. Tompkins, both of Greenwood and Mozelle B. Spearman of Philadelphia; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Triumph Baptist Church, 16th and Wingohocking streets. Burial will be in Mount Grace Cemetery.
Visitation is at the home of Mary L. Tompkins, 1106 E. Cambridge Ave., Greenwood. Tower Funeral Home is in charge.
