Dr. Robert Bailey Jr.

WEEMS, Va. — Services with burial for Dr. Robert L. Bailey Jr., 92, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Grace Episcopal Church, directed by Currie Funeral Home, both in Kilmarnock, Va. Dr. Bailey died November 8, 2004. Survivors include: daughters, Rosemary Saurer and Barbara Swann; three grandchildren; one great granddaughter; nephew, William Haltiwanger of Columbia, S.C.

Lettie Brown

MULLINS — Mrs. Lettie Jean Collins Brown, 78, widow of Harry Mack Brown, died Monday, November 8, 2004, in Sunny Acres Nursing Home after an illness.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, November 11, at the Chapel of Cox-Collins Funeral Home, with Rev. Neil Hinson officiating. Burial will follow in Red Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery, directed by Cox-Collins Funeral Home.

Mrs. Brown was born November 8, 1926, in Marion County, a daughter of the late Neil Carmichael Collins and the late Ruth Smith Collins. Mrs. Brown was a retired Home Health Aide and was a member of Gapway Baptist Church.

Surviving Mrs. Brown are: a daughter, Rebecca Richardson Guimond and her husband Bruce of Florence; 3 grandchildren, Chris Thurman and his wife Amber of Marion, Jean Thurman and her fiance’ Stacy Shelley of Conway and Sheenia Guimond of Florence; a great granddaughter, Summer Thurman of Marion; a sister, Martha Gold C. Dozier and her husband Edgar P.T. of Mullins; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 7 til 9 p.m. at Cox-Collins Funeral Home.

Kinloch Bull Jr.

SUMTER — Kinloch Bull, Jr., 78, died October 20, 2004, in the Georgetown Retirement Residence in Washington , D.C.

Mr. Bull was a native of Sumter and was a son of the late Francis Kinloch Bull and Julia Ball Bull.

Mr. Bull received his education from Edmunds High School in Sumter, the University of South Carolina, the University of Chicago and the University of Paris. He was a United States Army veteran.

Most of his adult life was spent in the Foreign Service of the Department of State, with assignments in the Far East, Africa and South America. A graduate of the Air War College, Mr. Bull held the Medal of Merit of the Central Intelligence Agency. A lifelong student of history, he was the author of “The Oligarchs in Colonial and Revolutionary Charleston: Lieutenant Governor William Bull II and His Family.”

Surviving are a brother, DeSaussure Bull of Palmer Lake, CO; a sister, Julia Bull Aymonier of Little Silver, NJ; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Wilson Bull Amato and a brother, Elias Ball Bull.

Memorial Services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Church of the Holy Cross with the Rev. Dick Archer officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Historic Preservation Trust, Church of the Holy Cross, 335 North Kings Highway, Sumter, SC 29154.

Fannie Dennis

SUMTER — Services and burial for Fannie Sanders Dennis, 81, widow of Willie Dennis, 2 p.m. Thursday (viewing 1 p.m.) at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, Rembert. Williams Funeral Home is in charge. Born in Sumter Co. to James and Ella Sanders, she died Nov. 5, 2004. Surviving: children, Frank, Fredrick, Barbara Dennis, Ruth Wilder, Mamie Johnson, Betty Butler, Steen Sanders; stepchildren; stepmother.

Brandon Cribb

MANNING — Services for Brandon Allen Cribb, 23, are 3 p.m. Thursday (visitation 6-8 tonight) at Stephens Funeral Home, burial in Clarendon Memorial Gardens. Born in Sumter to Phil and Betty Daniels Cribb, he died Nov. 7, 2004. He was a talented musician and was to graduate with honors from Central Carolina in the spring. Surviving: parents; sister, Kerrie Cribb; brother, Kevin Cribb; aunts, uncles, cousins.

Elsmer Earl Davis

COLUMBIA — Services for Elsmer Earl Davis, 76, will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Luke Lutheran Church, with burial in Olympia Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be James E. Jaco, Doyle J. Jaco, Jr., Algie F. Hare, Joby Castine and George D. Martin, Jr. Active pallbearers will be William R. Bland, Jr., B.E. Davis, III, Mark Drafts, Larry Lowman, Danny Lowman, and Robert E. Davis. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. Memorials may be made to St. Luke Lutheran Church, Palmetto Senior Care, Lexington, or Pacific Masonic Lodge # 325.

Mr. Davis died Monday, November 8, 2004. Born in Columbia, he was the son of the late Ernest Earl and Nan Gordon Davis. An Army veteran, he was a 1951 graduate of Newberry College, a 50 year lifetime member of the Masons, and a lifetime member of St. Luke Lutheran Church.

Surviving are his son, Garry E. Davis and his wife, Gretel of West Columbia; daughter, Elizabeth D. Lowman and her husband, David of Columbia; and grandson, Jeremy C. Davis of West Columbia.

Gerald Dunlap

CLINTON — Services for Gerald Raymond Dunlap, 39, widower of Mary Ann Todd Dunlap, will be 2 p.m. today at Antioch AME Church. Childs Funeral Home is in charge. Born to George and Essie Young Taylor, he died November 6, 2004. He was employed by Sterilite Co. Surviving: mother; stepdaughters, Jamiesha Hunter, Tashaundra Cannon; four brothers; five sisters; aunts, uncles; a great-great-aunt; nieces, nephews.

Helen Harpe

WEST COLUMBIA — Services for Helen Jaco Harpe, 81, will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church of West Columbia, with burial in Southland Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Wednesday 6-8 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. Memorials may be made to “For Such a Time as This” c/o First Baptist Church of West Columbia.

Mrs. Harpe, wife of the late Monroe Howell Harpe, died Tuesday, November 09, 2004. Born in Columbia, she was a daughter of the late Iveral Lee and Annie Neeley Jaco. She was the retired Director of the Kindergarten at First Baptist Church of West Columbia, a longtime employee of Dunbar Funeral Home, a member of the Eastern Star and the West Columbia Planning Commission.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of West Columbia, a former Sunday School teacher, and member of the Joy Sunday School Class and the Women’s Missionary Union.

She was a much-loved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Surviving are her daughters, Martha Harpe Roland and her husband, Kent of West Columbia, and Julia Harpe Bedell and her husband, Robert of West Columbia; son, Jim Harpe and his wife, Barbara of Lexington; six grandchildren, Amari Paulovic, Brenna Shepherd, Jason Roland, Farrah Orr, Trevor Bedell, and Josh Harpe; she was affectionately known as “Queenie” to six great-grandchildren, Akiva, MacLean, Frida, Jacob, Harper, and Crosson; sisters, Lila Barber of Hilton, Evelyn Brown and Nancy Burnett of West Columbia, Betty Wise, Mary Pearce, Linda Keisler of Cayce, Frances McCurdy and Bobbie McGee of Lexington, JoAnne McKinney of Columbia; and one brother, Jim Jaco of Cayce. She was predeceased by brothers, Buck Jaco and Morris Jaco.

Martha Jenkins

ST. HELENA ISLAND — Services with burial for Martha Holmes Jenkins, 81, will be held at noon Thursday (wake services 6-8 tonight) at Scottsville Baptist Church. Chisholm Galloway Home For Funerals, Beaufort, is in charge. Surviving: children, Jeffery Jr., Thomas, Eugene, Norman and Susan Jenkins, Tamer Middleton; adopted sons, Anthony Jenkins, Thomas Middleton; 3 brothers; 4 sisters.

Viena Julian

LEWISVILLE, N.C. — Viena (Julie) Julian, 109, a resident of Vienna Village, Lewisville, NC died Monday, November 8, 2004. She was born October 25, 1895 in Rowan County to Henry and Nancy Cauble. Mrs. Julian attended school in Rowan County and Lenoir-Rhyne College. Before her marriage, Mrs. Julian worked as a trained milliner in Taylorsville and Fayetteville. As a buyer she traveled to Baltimore and Washington , D.C. In 1919 she married Sidney H. Julian. They resided in Baden, NC and Newport News, VA before moving to Winston-Salem in 1924. Her love of home, the care of her family, and the creating of beauty in her surroundings was Julie’s joy. Mrs. Julian was the oldest member of Augsburg Lutheran Church. The congregation will remember our celebration, on the first Sunday of January 2000, of Mrs. Julian’s life spanning three centuries. She and Sidney were among its founding members and devoted themselves to the building of the present West 5th St. church. A faithful worker for the needs of the church, Mrs. Julian was an honored lifetime member of the Women’s Auxiliary and the Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary. Mrs. Julian was preceded in death by her husband and their son, Dale. Surviving is her devoted daughter, Nancy, of the home; and a number of nieces and nephews in NC, Columbia, SC and Orlando, FL. Funeral services will be conducted at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, Wednesday 2:00 p.m. with the family receiving friends one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Dr. Ronald Rinn officiating. Interment will be in Forsyth Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the Building Fund at Augsburg Lutheran Church, 845 W. Fifth St., Winston-Salem, NC 27101.

Robbie McCutcheon

TIMMONSVILLE — A memorial service for Robbie James “Jamey” McCutcheon, 32, will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Norton Funeral Home. Mr. McCutcheon died November 7, 2004. The family will receive friends until 9 p.m. today at the home of James and Shirley Broach, 1321 Railroad Ave., Hartsville.

Azilee McLeod

NEWBERRY — Azilee Satterwhite McLeod, 95, of White Oak Manor, formerly of 1754 Bush River Road, Newberry, widow of John Robert “Bob” McLeod, died Monday, November 8, 2004.

Mrs. McLeod was born in Newberry County on August 6, 1909, the daughter of the late Frank M. and Estelle Teague Satterwhite. She was a very active member of the Bush River Baptist Church.

Mrs. McLeod is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, John Robert and Phoebe McLeod of West Columbia and James C. and Kitty McLeod, and Edward and Sadie McLeod, all of Newberry; a brother, Earl Satterwhite of Newberry; seven grandchildren, Bobby McLeod, Sandra Schrank, Deborah Massingale, Nancy Key, Bryan McLeod, and Beverly McLeod, and Eddie McLeod; 14 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two brothers, Claude Satterwhite and Haynard Satterwhite.

Funeral services for Mrs. Azilee S. McLeod will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Thursday at the Bush River Baptist Church. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Whitaker Funeral Home. The family will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Edward McLeod, 5184 Bush River Road, Newberry.

Memorials may be made to the Bush River Baptist Church, c/o John Earle Smith, Jr., 3903 Bush River Road, Kinards, SC 29355 or to White Oak Manor, 2525 Kinard Street, Newberry, SC 29108.

Johnnie Minton

WEST COLUMBIA — Services for SFC Johnnie L. Minton, 74, of West Columbia, SC, will be held at 1pm Friday in Saluda River Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Tommy Spotts. Burial and military rites will follow at Southland Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm Thursday at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington, SC. Memorials may be made to Saluda River Baptist Church, 3459 Sunset Blvd.,West Columbia, SC 29169.

SFC Minton died Tuesday, November 09, 2004. Born in Dunlap, TN, he was the son of the late Obed and Melvina Green Minton. SFC Minton was a retired United States Army veteran. During his 20-year career, he attained the rank of Specialist First Class E-7. Additionally, he retired from Carolina Eastman Power and Service Division in 1992.

Surviving are his wife, Thelma Pratt Minton of West Columbia, SC; daughters and sons-in-law, Debra and James Michaelson of West Columbia, SC, Nina and Danny Ellis of Orangeburg, SC; son and daughter-in-law, James and Joan Minton of Gaston, SC; sisters, Louise Minton of Dunlap, TN, Rachel Knight of Baltimore, MD; brothers, Ed Minton of Oregon, Obed Minton, Jr. of Whitwell, TN, Jerry Minton of Dunlap, TN; grandchildren, Katherine Minton, Jaclyn Michaelson, Caitlyn Michaelson, D.J. Ellis, Jr., and Chris Ellis. SFC Minton was predeceased by sisters, Cleo Minton, Eva Minton, and Faye Hankins; and brothers, Donald Minton and Jackie Minton.

William Morgan Jr.

CHERAW — Mr. William Battle “Tooty” Morgan, Jr., age 77, died Monday, November 8, 2004. Funeral service will be 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 10, 2004, at First United Methodist Church with burial in Old St. David’s Cemetery. Visitation is 2:00-3:00 p.m. Wednesday in the Church Parlor prior to the service.

Mr. Morgan was born in Cheraw, SC, a son of the late William Battle Morgan, Sr. and Viola Lide Morgan. He was a retired CP&L employee with 36 years of service and a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII. Mr. Morgan was a member of First United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his son, William Battle Morgan, III.

Survivors: wife, Jo Anne Winburn Morgan of the home; granddaughter, Amber Nicole Morgan of Charlotte, NC; 1 brother, George L. (Martha) Morgan of Cheraw, SC; 3 sisters, Hilda M. Wilds of Columbia, SC, Sara M. (Billy) Wicker and Patricia M. (Jerry) Turner of Cheraw, SC.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church “Organ Fund,” P.O. Box 129, Cheraw, SC 29520 or Thornwell Children’s Home, P.O. Box 60, Clinton, SC 29325.
