GREENWOOD — Ida Louise McAmish, 81, died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002, at Magnolia Manor.
Born in Rome, Ga., she was a daughter of the late George Washington McAmish Sr. and Cornelia Brown McAmish. She retired from Greenwood Shirt Factory and was a member of South Main Street Baptist Church.
Survivors include nephews.
Graveside services are at 2 today in Greenwood Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Dave Patterson.
Harley Funeral Home is in charge.

Margaret Quarles

NORTH AUGUSTA — Margaret Quarles, 85, of 1300 Talisman Drive, died Monday, Jan. 7, 2002, at University Hospital in Augusta.
The family is at the homes of a son, Odell Quarles, Wilson Creek, 244 Lot 82, Greenwood, and a sister, Julia Hill, 116 Whitehall Road, Promised Land.
Services will be announced by Percival-Tompkins Funeral Home, Greenwood, which is in charge.

Ruby Sharpe

DUE WEST — Ruby Lee Pressly Sharpe, 80, of 11 Depot St., widow of Samuel Y. Sharpe, died Monday, Jan. 7, 2002, at her home.
Born in Abbeville County, she was a daughter of the late James P. and Leila Jones Pressly. She was a member of Gilgal United Methodist Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Elaine Richey and Marilyn Crawford, both of Donalds and Rose Ann Rosser of Due West; six grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.
Services are at 2 Wednesday at Gilgal United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Thomas Smith and the Rev. Nena Reynolds. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are Brence Richey, Matt Crawford, Sammy Rosser, David Leslie, Tommy Mundy and Bobby Mundy.
Visitation is from 6-8 tonight at Harris Funeral Home, Abbeville.
The family is at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Louie Richey, 488 Highway 185 S., Donalds.
Memorials may be made to the Due West Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 517, Due West, S.C. 29639 or Gilgal United Methodist Church, c/o Mrs. Bonnie Lowery, P.O. Box 192, Due West, S.C. 29639.

Carl Simpfenderfer

LODI, Calif. — Carl Jacob Simpfenderfer, 94, widower of Bertha Simpfenderfer, died Monday, Dec. 24, 2001, in Lodi.
He was born in Dodge, N.D., and he lived in Lodi for the past 57 years. Employed as a carpenter and later as a mill man for Miller Millwork Mart for 26 years, he was a member of the Carpenter’s Union for 50 years. He was a member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Gertie Ladner of Carnelian Bay and Arlie Flath of Oregon; two sons, George Simpfenderfer of Acampo and Clarence Simpfenderfer of Greenwood, S.C.; 15 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Services were Friday, Dec. 28 at Gierhart-Wells & Donahue Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Ricky Himm, pastor of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church. Burial was in Cherokee Park Memorial Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Hospice of San Joaquin or to a charity of one’s choice.
Gierhart-Wells & Donahue Funeral Home was in charge.

Jonathan Tolentino

GREENWOOD — Jonathan Carlos Tolentino, infant son of J. Benito and Ines Carlos Davila Tolentino, died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002, at Self Regional Healthcare.
Graveside services are at 11 a.m. today in Oakbrook Memorial Park, conducted by Father Richard B. Harris.
Visitation is from 10-11 today at Blyth Funeral Home.
The family is at the home, 207 New Market St., Apt. 31-D.

Lula Wester

CROSS HILL — Lula Geraldine Wester, 81, of 228 Lake Bridge Road, died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002, at her home.
A daughter of the late Toma and Mary Wester, she was a member of Liberty Hill Baptist Church, Boaz, Ala.
Survivors include a daughter, Betty Jo Smith of Cross Hill; a son, Ted Hallmark of Section, Ala.; a stepson, Thomas O. Williams of Albertville, Ala.; a sister, Jewel Baker of Boaz; 20 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great grandchildren.
Services are at 2 today at Albertville Memorial Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Joe Noojin and the Rev. Wayne Roden. Burial is in Liberty Hill Cemetery, Boaz.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Sarah W. Belton died Monday, Jan. 7, 2002, at Hunter Woods Health Care.
Born in Abbeville, S.C., she was a daughter of the late Arthur Williams and Willie McGowan Williams Klugh.
The family is at a daughter’s home, Dorothy Spencer, 225 Ashcroft Drive, Greenwood, S.C.
Services will be announced by Abbeville & White Mortuary, Abbeville, which is in charge.

Midge Brewer

GREENWOOD — Elizabeth W. “Midge” Brewer, 68, of 1501 Phoenix St., died Monday, Jan. 7, 2002, at Self Regional Healthcare.
Born in Greenwood, she was a daughter of the late William Oscar and Annie L. Turner. She retired from Geo. W. Park Seed Co. and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include two daughters, Debbie Cobb Smart of Greenwood and Patsy K. Cobb Barton of Elberton, Ga.; two sisters, Patsy Turner of Greenwood and Mattie T. Brewer of Anderson; and four grandchildren.
Services are at 3:30 today at Harley Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Candice Sloan. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are Barry Conyers, Kenneth Conyers, Jerry Davis, Wilbur McCoy, Dannie Owens, Timmy Conyers and James Brewer.
Honorary escorts are Clark Turner, Paul Turner, Jackie Fleming, Brooks Brewer and Mark Jones.
Family members are at the homes of a sister, Patsy Turner, 28 First St., and a daughter, Debbie Smart, Apt. 43, Wisewood Apartments.

Rayford Edwards

GREENWOOD — Rayford Edwards, 96, of 119 Watson St., died Monday, Jan. 7, 2002, at Self Regional Healthcare.
Born in Tignall, Ga., he was a son of the late Sylvia Edwards. He was a former custodian at Piedmont Tech.
He was the last survivor of his immediate family. Survivors include a niece.
The family is at the home his niece, Sylvia Stevens, 706 Tabor St.
Services will be announced by Robinson & Son Mortuary Inc.,
which is in charge.

Minnie W. Ferqueron

McCORMICK — Minnie Wideman Ferqueron, 96, widow of Luther “Doc” Ferqueron, died Monday, Jan. 7, 2002, at the home of a daughter in Greenwood.
Born in Old Abbeville County, she was a daughter of the late Mose and Mahalie Bowick Wideman. She was a homemaker and a member of McCormick Baptist Church. She had made her home with a daughter, Sadie Lou Whitten, for the past 15 years.
Survivors include three sons, Ollie Lee Ferqueron of Troy and Roy Oneil Ferqueron and Archie Ray Ferqueron, both of Greenwood; a grandson reared in the home, Larry Adams of Greenwood; four daughters, Sadie Lou Whitten, Doris Brown, Betty Faye Ferqueron and Peggy Jo Royston, all of Greenwood; 20 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services are at 2 Thursday in Overbrook Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Bud Tumblin.
Pallbearers are Lee Ferqueron, Justin Elliott, Neal Ferqueron, Sam Mann, Archie Ferqueron, Jimmy Wall, James Whitten and Ronnie Ferqueron.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at Strom Funeral Home.
The family is at the home of Sadie Lou Whitten, 1208 Sweetwater Road, Greenwood.
Strom Funeral Home is in charge.
