Olin F. Collins
WOODRUFF — Olin Franklin Collins, 68, of 166-B Shennandale Circle, formerly of Greenwood, died Monday, Feb. 11, 2002, at his home.
Born in Greenville, he was a son of the late Raymond Floyd and Betty Sue Long Collins. He was a retired textile employee and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include two sons, Franklin Kim Collins and Michael R. Collins, both of Greenwood; a brother, Raymond Mack Collins of Travelers Rest; three grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.
Services are at 2 Thursday at Lanford Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Carrol Caldwell. Burial is in Graceland Cemetery, Greenville.
Visitation is from 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.
Family members are at their respective homes and at 408 Highway 246 N., Greenwood.

Lottie Ferguson
ABBEVILLE — Lottie McCurry Ferguson, 87, of 412 Carolina Circle, widow of Thomas Fred Ferguson, died Monday, Feb. 11, 2002, at Abbeville County Memorial Hospital.
Born in Abbeville County, she was a daughter of the late Oscar and Estelle Lee McCurry. She was a charter member and former choir member of Friendship Baptist Church and had volunteered with the Meals on Wheels program.
Survivors include a son, Thomas E. “Tony” Ferguson of Greenville; three sisters, Mary Brock of Abbeville, Lou Fisher of Honea Path and Jeanette Thomasson of Abbeville.
Services are at 2 Thursday at Harris Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Bill Ellison. Burial is in Melrose Cemetery.
Visitation is from 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.
The family is at the home.

Herbert Fix
GREENWOOD — Herbert Fix, 90, of 230 E. Cambridge Ave., widower of Anna Bachmann Fix, died Monday, Feb. 11, 2002, at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Petaluma, Calif., he was a son of the late Emile and Margareta Dorothea Van Horn Fix. He retired from Hartford Tool & Dye Co., Hartford, Conn., and had lived in South Carolina since 1982.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Services will be announced by Harley Funeral Home.

Mary B.J. Horne
SPARTANBURG — Mary Bell Jones Horne, 86, of 180 Longleaf Drive, widow of Joseph Wade Horne, died Monday, Feb. 11, 2002, at her home.
Born in Lawndale, N.C., she was a daughter of the late Joseph Robert Jones Sr. and Alice Hoyle Elliott Jones. She graduated from Asheville Normal Teachers College and taught school for 34 ½ years in North and South Carolina, including the last 23 years in Spartanburg School District Seven. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star Tallulah Chapter No. 16.
Survivors include two daughters, Martha Sprouse of Spartanburg and Esther Gilden of Myrtle Beach; a brother, Samuel Durant Jones of Lawndale; a sister, Esther King of Tampa, Fla.; nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Services are at 4 today at Trinity United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Paul Harmon and the Rev. A. Mickey Fisher. Burial, with Eastern Star rites, is in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
The family is at the home.

Haskell ‘Hack’ Maxwell
ABBEVILLE — Haskell “Hack” Maxwell, 72, of 2368 Flat Rock Road, husband of Hilda Giles Maxwell, died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002, at his home.
Born in Anderson County, he was a son of the late Zenos and Mamie Lowe Maxwell. He was a member of Bells United Methodist Church and a former member of the church Administrative Board.
Survivors include his wife of the home; a daughter, Faye Penland Woods of Honea Path; a son, David Maxwell of Abbeville; two brothers, Clyde Maxwell and Ventson Maxwell, both of Iva; a sister, Gladys Maxwell Mitchell of Iva; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services are at 3 Thursday at Bells United Methodist Church, conducted by the Revs. Lowry and Beth Drennen. The body will be placed in the church at 2. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Visitation is from 6-8 tonight at Harris Funeral Home.
The family is at the home.

Bruce Alexander McLaughlin
GREENWOOD — Bruce Alexander “Mighty Mack” McLaughlin, 43, of 1604 Evans Pond Road, husband of Mildred Long McLaughlin, died Monday, Feb. 11, 2002, at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Greenwood, he was a son of Willie and Flora Louise McLaughlin. He was a carpenter and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the Elks.
Survivors include his wife; his parents of Greenwood; a daughter, Annette McLaughlin of Brooklyn, N.Y.; four sons, Quintin McLaughlin of Brooklyn and Keith McLaughlin, Michael McLaughlin and Bruce Bernard McLaughlin, all of Greenwood; and a sister, Geraldine McLaughlin of Charleston.
Services are at 3 Friday at Mount Moriah Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Willie J. Key, assisted by the Revs. Raymond Adams, Willie Harrison and Anthony Washington . The body will be placed in the church at 2. Burial is in Evening Star Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are J.C. Morton, Charlie Gilliam, Darnell Smith, Theodore Goodman, Larry Rice, Jermaine Rogers, Tony Thomas and Larry Dinkins.
Flower bearers are members of American Legion Post No. 224 Auxiliary.
Honorary escorts are members of Tarrant-McGrier Post No. 224, American Legion.
Visitation is from 6-7 Thursday at Trinity United Methodist Church.

Wesley W. Pilkenton
NINETY SIX — Wesley W. Pilkenton, 78, of 249 Saluda St., husband of Louise Johnson Pilkenton, died Monday, Feb. 11, 2002, at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Heaton, N.C., he was a son of the late C.W. and Emmie Kimbel Pilkenton. He retired from Greenwood Mills Ninety Six Plant, where he was a member of the Quarter Century Club, and was a Navy World War II veteran. He was a member of Eureka Lodge No. 47, A.F.M., Cambridge United Methodist Church and the Men’s Bible Class of the church.
Survivors include his wife of the home; a daughter, Virginia Buff of Greenwood; a granddaughter and a great-granddaughter.
Services are at 4 Thursday at Harley Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Joey McDonald. Burial is in Elmwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Darrell Calvert, Andy Leopard, Jeffrey Graham, Larry Roark, Everett Parker, Alton Vaughn and Mike Buchanan.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.
The family is at the home.
Memorials may be made to Cambridge United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 328, Ninety Six, S.C. 29666.

GREENWOOD — Services for Donnie Orlando Rankin, of 210 Marion Ave., are at 2 today at Percival-Tompkins Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Johnny Johnson. Burial is in White Plains Baptist Church Cemetery, Laurens.
Pallbearers are friends of the family.
Flower bearers are Dorothy Farmer, Ernestine Anderson, Queen Farmer, Tasheks Gary, Audrey McDuffie and Tarisha William.
The family is at the home and at the home of a grandmother, Minnie Farmer, 832-A Edgefield St.

Helen Harrington Williams
GREENVILLE - Mrs. Helen Harrington Williams, widow of the late W. D. "Bill" Williams, died February 11, 2002 at her residence.
Born in Lee County, NC, Mrs. Williams was a daughter of the late Raymond Harrington and Dora Belle Black Harrington. She attended Lee County schools and graduated from Elon College.
Mrs. Williams retired after 35 years as a teacher in North Carolina and South Carolina schools, and was a member of Trinity Road United Methodist Church, Greenville, SC, where she was a former Sunday School teacher.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, David and Kathy Williams, Columbia, SC; a daughter and son-in-law, Marsha and Rev. John N. Woodard, Hickory, NC; three grandchildren, Matthew Williams and Molly Williams, Columbia, SC; and Ashley Woodard, Winston-Salem, NC.; and two sisters, Mary H. Steele, Due West, SC and Lois H. McBryde, Sanford, NC.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Shiloh United Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. Bill Hoyle, Assistant Pastor.
Burial will be in Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Visitation will follow the service at the church.

‘Buck’ Ashley
HONEA PATH — William Lowry “Buck” Ashley, 74, of 3193 Keowee Road, husband of Kathy Littlefield Ashley, died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002.
Born in Honea Path, he was a son of the late Robert Luther Ashley Sr. and Eunice Smith Ashley. An Army Korean War veteran, he retired from the Army Reserves and was the retired Abbeville County Tax Assessor and past president of the S.C. Association of Assessing Offices. He was a charter member of Abbeville Lions Club, a Board of Directors member of High Meadows Country Club, a Mason, a Shriner and a member of the Hejaz Shrine Temple. He was also a member of Little River Baptist Church, where he was treasurer of the church cemetery fund.
Survivors include his wife of the home and a brother, Robert Luther Ashley Jr. of Honea Path.
Services are at 11 a.m. Friday at Little River Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Charles Fuller. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Visitation is from 6-8 tonight at the church.
The family is at the home of his brother, 55 Bowen Ford Road.

Helen Browne
McCORMICK - Helen Bradley Browne, 84, resident of the Chestnut Ridge area of McCormick, wife of Wilton M. Browne, died February 12, 2002 at National Health Care Center in Greenwood.
Born in Greenwood County, December 13, 1917, she was a daughter of the late Arch and Alla Mae Holloway Bradley. She was a graduate of Ninety Six High School and a 1937 graduate of Lander College. Mrs. Browne attended the University of South Carolina, University of Kentucky and received her Master's Degree from Clemson University. She taught in the public schools in Rabun County, Georgia, the McCormick County schools and retired from Southside Middle School in Greenwood.
Mrs. Browne was a member of McCormick United Methodist Church, the Wesley Adult Sunday School Class and the Susanna Wesley Circle of the church. She was also a member of the Long Cane Chapter of NSDAR, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Afternoon Lander Club, Delta Kappa Gamma Fraternity, Mine Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and the McCormick Senior Citizens Center.
Surviving in addition to her husband of the home are two daughters, Mrs. W.J. (Mary Jean) Huntley of Hilton Head Island and Mrs. John (Margaret) Young of Barnwell; a son, Patrick M. Browne of Greensboro, NC; six grandchildren, Holly Huntley of Mt. Pleasant, Ginsie Huntley and Marianna Huntley, both of Hilton Head Island, Nicholas Young of Barnwell and Atlanta, GA, Wil Young of Barnwell and Todd Browne of Greensboro, NC.
Mrs. Browne was predeceased by a sister, Mary Bradley McFerrin.
Funeral services will be conducted 1PM Friday at McCormick United Methodist Church with Rev. Donald Clendaniel officiating.
Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be John Langley, Perry Chamberlain, Sam Isgett, Tom Browne, Alfred Langley and E. A. "Mac" McFerrin.
The body is at Blyth Funeral Home in Greenwood and will be placed in the church at 11AM Friday.
The family is at the home and will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 to 7 Thursday evening.
Memorials may be made to McCormick United Methodist Church, Endowment Fund, McCormick United Methodist Scholarship Fund, PO Box 267, McCormick, SC 29835 or to Tamassee DAR School, Tamassee, SC 29686.

Mary C. Burton
LAURENS — Mary Cooper Burton, 93, widow of Alton E. Burton, formerly of Taylors, died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002, at Martha Franks Baptist Retirement Center.
Born in Laurens County, she was a daughter of the late Rev. John Kelly and Monnie Cox Cooper. She was a retired seamstress of Carolina Manufacturing, a member of Taylors First Baptist Church and a former member and pianist of Union Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, A. Leon Burton of Laurens and Richland, Wash.; two daughters, Gloria Pitts of Pelzer and Myrtice Rich of Easley; two sisters, Raymoth Hartsell of Taylors and Earline Brett of Kernersville, N.C.; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services are at 3 Friday at Kennedy Mortuary, conducted by Dr. Ernest Carswell, the Rev. Lindsey O’Rear, and Dr. Russell Dean. Burial is in Union Baptist Church Cemetery.
Visitation is from 2-3 Friday at the mortuary.
Family members are at their respective homes.
Memorials may be made to Taylors First Baptist Church, 200 W. Main St., Taylors, S.C. 29687 or Union Baptist Church, Cemetery Fund, 536 Old Quaker Church Road, Laurens, S.C. 29360.
