Maurice Antonio Stevens
SALUDA — Maurice Antonio Stevens, 15, of 514 Penn Creek Road, died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2002, at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital.
Born in Greenwood, he was a son of Ethel Mae Scruggs and George Stevens. He was a student at Saluda High School, where he was a member of the junior varsity basketball and football teams. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his parents of Saluda; four brothers, Kentrell Scruggs of Lawrenceville, Va., George Stevens Jr. and Joseph Brunson, both of Saluda and Kentrell Coleman of North Carolina; two sisters, Felicia Stevens of Franklin, N.C., and Lacey Stevens of Saluda; and paternal grandmother, Lillie Mae Stevens of Saluda. Services are at 3:30 Friday at the Old Riverside High School gymnasium, conducted by the Rev. George Key. Burial is in Mine Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Highway 121.
Pallbearers are members of the junior varsity football and basketball teams.
Flower bearers are classmates and friends.
The family is at the home.

Raymond Edmunds
McCORMICK — Raymond Luke Edmunds, 76, of 618 Railroad Avenue, husband of Linda Davenport Edmunds, died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002, at his home.
Born in McCormick, he was a son of the late Clyde Robinson and Ida Mae Bowick Edmunds. He was a World War II Army veteran. A carpenter formerly working in residential construction, he retired as a maintenance engineer from McCormick County. He also retired from the McCormick Volunteer Fire Department. A member of McCormick First Baptist Church, he was also a member of Mine Masonic Lodge No. 117, Thomas J. Lyons Jr. American Legion Post No. 19 and Woodmen of the World.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Stephen Ray Edmunds of McCormick and Bruce Allen Edmunds of Hodges; a daughter, Angela Mae Butler of Lincolnton, Ga.; four brothers, O.B. Edmunds, James Z. Edmunds, Robert L. Edmunds and Charlie T. Edmunds, all of McCormick; a sister, Daisy Bowen of Greenwood; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services are 2 p.m. Friday at McCormick First Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. Dennis Lynn and Ryan Eklund. The body will be placed in the church at 1. Burial with Masonic Rites is in Overbrook Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Tim Wines, Robert Ashmore, Ricky Banks, Jerry White, Heyward Brown, Larry Hudgens, Alvin Turner and Andrew Seigler.
Honorary escorts are members of the McCormick Volunteer Fire Department.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at Blyth Funeral Home, Greenwood.

NINETY SIX — Arthur Kelly Gunter, 66, of 507 Johnston Road, widower of Olive Mae “Bootsie’ Minor Gunter, died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2002, at his home.
Born in Oglethorpe, Ga., he was a son of the late Tom and Hattie Lou Porterfield Gunter. He retired from Duke Power Co. and served in the Army during the Korean War. He was a member of Ninety Six Pentecostal Holiness Church and the Adult No. 4 Sunday School Class.
Survivors include two sisters, Jeanette Glenn of Summerville and Hilda Sandifer of Washington , Ga.
Services are at 2 Friday at Ninety Six Pentecostal Holiness Church, conducted by the Rev. Ben Edwards, the Rev. Lawrence Johnson and Brother Charles Brown. The body will be placed in the church at 1. Burial is in Elmwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Tony Gunter, Danny Gunter, Steve Gunter, Gene Sandifer, Brad Sandifer and Douglas Pullen.
Honorary escorts are members of the Adult Sunday School Class of the church.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at Harley Funeral Home.

GREENWOOD — George Hair, formerly of Chappells, died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002, at Self Regional Medical Center.
Services will be announced by Wilson Funeral Home, Newberry, which is in charge.

Joyce H. Hall
SPARTANBURG — Agatha Joyce Hawkins Hall, 76, of Woodruff Manor, widow of Robert C. Hall, died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
Born in Greenville County, she was a daughter of the late James Barnard Hawkins Sr., and Carrie Bridwell Hawkins. She was a homemaker and a member of Rice Memorial Baptist Church, Greenwood.
Survivors include three sons, Robert J. Hall of Clarksville, Tenn., L. Steven Hall of Seneca and Richard Hall of Greer; three sisters, Gail Steadman of Greenville, Nancy Willis of Greer and Nell Mullinax of Eminence, Ky.; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Graveside services are at 2 today in Greenwood Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Alvin Hodges.
The Wood Mortuary is in charge.

Leeta L. Marler
LAURENS — Leeta Laura Marler, 48, died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2002, at her home.
Born in Baltimore, she was a daughter of the late Charlie A. Marler Jr. and Elizabeth Wells Marler. She was a member of Columbia Baptist Church.
Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Raymond (Janice) Medlock of Honea Path.
Memorial services are at 2 Saturday at Parker-White Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Gerald Crawford.

CALHOUN FALLS — Doris Wiles Moss, 76, of 317 Rice St., wife of Ozie Moss, died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2002, at her home.
Born in Iva, she was a daughter of the late James H. Wiles and Mary Etta Hayes Wiles. She was a homemaker and a member of Rocky River Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include her husband of the home; three daughters, Sharon Wilson of Pelzer, Carolyn Bryant of Iva and Dena Manning of Calhoun Falls; three sisters, Georgia Ware of Easley, Mary Ruth Rice of Iva, and Etruelia Kimsey of Calhoun Falls; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services are at 2 today at Calhoun Falls Funeral Home, conducted by the Revs. Scotty Willoughby and Jerry Dalton. Burial is in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.

Carrie Rogers
GREENWOOD — Caroline Louise “Carrie” Wilde Rogers, 30, of 308 Hunting Road, wife of Joel Rogers, died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2002, at her home.
Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, she was a daughter of John H. and Mary Louise Robertson Wilde. She graduated from Dixie High School, Abbeville, and Piedmont Technical College, and attended Lander University. She was a member of Rocky River Presbyterian Church in Abbeville.
Survivors include her husband of Abbeville; her parents of Greenwood; a son, Henry Rogers and a daughter, Tabatha Rogers, both of Abbeville; a sister, Margaret Beddard of Charlotte, N.C.
Memorial services are at 2 Friday at Rocky River Presbyterian Church, with Mike Rogers and Dr. George Wilson officiating.
Private family burial will be in Rocky River Presbyterian Church Cemetery at a later date.
Visitation is from 1-2 Friday at the church.
The family is at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Wilde, 308 Hunting Road in Chinquapin and at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Sonny Rogers, 1885 Highway 72 W., Abbeville.

Sara E. Taylor
CALHOUN FALLS — Sara Emma Taylor, 83, of 100 Waterford Lane, died Monday, Feb. 18, 2002, at her home.
Born in Laurens, she was a daughter of the late Rev. O.E. and Mamie Leapard Taylor. She taught at the Calhoun Falls Kindergarten, and was a teacher’s aide at John C. Calhoun Elementary School for many years. She was a member of Calhoun Falls Pentecostal Holiness Church, where she was the organist for more than 25 years.
Survivors include a sister, Nina Ruth Snellgrove of Lexington; and a brother, the Rev. Huston D. Taylor of Prosperity.
Services are at 11 today at Calhoun Falls Pentecostal Holiness Church, conducted by the Revs. Thomas Batts and Lawrence Johnson. Graveside services are at 2 in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Laurens.

Rufus ‘Sport’ Tolbert Sr.
GREENWOOD — Services for Rufus “Sport” Tolbert Sr., of Wesley Commons, formerly of 246˝ Mineral St., are at 2 Saturday at Robinson & Son Mortuary, conducted by the Rev. Derrick Scott. Burial is in Tranquil A.M.E. Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers and flower bearers are friends of the family.

ABBEVILLE — Services for Lillie Maude Wilburn are at 1 Friday at St. James A.M.E. Church, conducted by the Rev. James E. Thompson. Burial is in Harbison Cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at noon.
Pallbearers are John Lagroon, Jerry Samuel, Johnny Norman and friends of the family. Flower bearers are Missionary Society members.

Emerson Johnson
GREENWOOD — Emerson Johnson, 68, of 217 Irvines Circle, husband of Dorothy “Jerry” Wyckoff Johnson, died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002, at the VA Medical Center in Augusta, Ga.
Born in Hartsville, he was a son of the late Luther and Mary Ella Faile Johnson. He was the manager of industrial relations for Fluor Corp. and an Army veteran of the Korean conflict. He was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 15 A.F.M., Escambia, Fla., and he attended Siloam Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Wayne Johnson of Ridgeway and Tommy Johnson of Ninety Six; a daughter, Cindi Corbin of Greenwood; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services are at 3 Saturday at Harley Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Robin Fisher. Burial is in Oakbrook Memorial Park.
Pallbearers are Richard Griffin, Dewey Raines, Bobby Stoudemire, Reid Watterson, Clyde Atkinson and Allen Atkinson.
Honorary escorts are employees of Fluor Corp., Sunrise Seniors members, along with Mills Polatty, Jim Moore, Kenneth Wheless, Faulkner Harling, Jim Emert, Harold Boyd and Harold Kennemore.

Michael Patrick O'Connor Murray, Jr.
MT. PLEASANT - Michael Patrick O'Connor Murray, Jr., 78, of Mt. Pleasant, SC entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, February 19, 2002 in a local hospital. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Mike Murray are invited to attend the funeral services of the former, Friday afternoon, February 22, 2002, at the graveside, Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens at 3:00 o'clock. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel.
Mr. Murray was born on May 7, 1923 in Ninety Six, South Carolina, a son of Michael Patrick O'Connor Murray, Sr. and Mae Waits Murray. He served in the Army Air Corps and received a certificate of valor for 50 combat missions flown in World War II. He attended Wofford College and graduated from General Motors Institute in 1948 and moved to Charleston to work for Ray Waits Motors. He was the owner of Mike Murray Pontiac and was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church.
Surviving are his wife, Virginia Califf Murray, his daughters, Virginia Murray Owens (Jann), and her husband, Coleman Clyde (Bud), Patricia Murray Cummings (Patsy), and her husband, William (Bill), Pauline Murray Hairston (Peg), and her husband, Peter. His grandchildren, Coleman Clyde Owens, III (Cole), and his wife, Christina, Patrick Langdon Owens, David William (Will) Berryman, Virginia Davidson Hairston, Rachel Hunter Hairston, and his great-grandchild, Coleman Drew Owens.
Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, 5 Clifford Street, Charleston, SC 29401 or a charity of one's choice.

Daisy Belle Sullivan
ROCK HILL — Daisy Belle Boatwright Sullivan, 84, wife of the Rev. J. Garness Sullivan, of 1110 Marshall Road, Greenwood, died Wednesday, Feb, 20, 2002, at Wesley Commons Health Care Center in Greenwood.
Born in Jefferson, she was a daughter of the late William G. and Daisy Sullivan Boatwright. A homemaker, she was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband; a son, James K. “Jim” Sullivan of Rock Hill; a daughter, Billie Bryant of Greenwood; three brothers, Donald Boatwright and Pete Boatwright, both of Rock Hill and Lee Roy Boatwright of Virginia; three sisters, Agnes Stamper of Fort Mill, Sylvia Strait of Rock Hill and Shirley Ghent of Charlotte; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Epworth United Methodist Church, conducted by the Revs. John Williams, W.D. Farr and Will Brown. Burial is in Rock Hill Memorial Gardens.
Visitation is from 6-8 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home and other times at the home of Jim and Gayle Sullivan, 522 Shandonwood St.
