Shirley C. Madden
WARE SHOALS — Shirley Chapman Madden, 65, of 538 Free Bridge Road, wife of Robert Madden, died Sunday, March 17, 2002, at National Health Care of Greenwood.
Born in Spartanburg County, she was a daughter of the late Duggan and Josie Mae Chapman. She was retired from Jostens and attended Kings Chapel United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband of the home; four sons, Wayne Smith of Laurens and Barry Smith, Timothy Smith and Buddy Owens, all of Ninety Six; a brother, Frank “Pete” Chapman of Laurens; two sisters, Maggie Hughes and Rikki Chapman, both of Woodruff and eight grandchildren.
Services are at 3 Tuesday at Parker-White Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Gayle Summey and the Rev. Dr. Marcus Bishop. Burial is in Mount Olive Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Curtis Traynham, Earl, Lester and Jamie Madden, Chris Gaines and Jimmy Campbell.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at Parker-White Funeral Home.
The family is at the home of Earl and Brenda Madden, 622 Free Bridge Road.
Parker-White Funeral Home is in charge.

Joanne Mitchell
McCORMICK — Joanne Miller Mitchell, 82, of 508 Cherry St., wife of John R. “Bob” Mitchell, died Sunday, March 17, 2002, at Self Regional Medical Center.
Services will be announced by Blyth Funeral Home, which is in charge.

Odessa Moss
GREENWOOD — Services for Odessa Moss, of National Healthcare, formerly of 3610 Cokesbury Road, will be at 11 Wednesday at Flint Hill Missionary Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Tony Foster, assisted by Rev. William Booker. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens. The body will be placed in the church at 10.
Pallbearers are deacons and trustees of the church.
Flower bearers are deaconesses and ushers.
Visitation is from 7-8 Tuesday at Percival-Tompkins Funeral Home.
The family is at the home of a daughter, Paryn Wallace, 109 Autumn Court.
Percival-Tompkins Funeral Home is in charge.

Rev. C.H. Padgett
RUTHERFORDTON, N.C. — Rev. Clarence Patterson Padgett, 90, formerly of Saluda, died Sunday, March 17, 2002, at Rutherford Hospital.
Born in Edgefield County, he was a son of the late Clarence Allison and Maude Padgett. He was a retired minister, having organized and served as pastor at Hopewell Congregational Holiness Church in Saluda for 25 years.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Marjorie Gray Padgett of the home; a son, Ramond P. Padgett of Columbia; two daughters, Joye Hughes of Columbia and Cassandra Parton of Rutherfordton, N.C.; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services are at 2 Tuesday at Hopewell Congregational Holiness Church. Burial is in Eastview Cemetery in Edgefield.
Visitation is from 12:30- 1:45 Tuesday at Hopewell Congregational Holiness Church.

Ray Hinton
HODGES - Edward Ray Hinton, 71, resident of 117 Hillside Drive, widower of Frances Wilson Hinton, died March 17, 2002 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Greenwood County, February 22, 1931, he was a son of the late David Cole and Margaret Harrison Hinton. He was a graduate of Greenwood High School and retired from Greenwood Mills.
A member of Harris United Methodist Church, he was also a member of the Joppa Masonic Lodge #387.
Surviving are three daughters, Terri Parks of Hodges, Gaye Hester of Ware Shoals and Jessica Johnson of Greenwood; a sister, Bernice Williams of Douglasville, GA; two grandsons; three great-grandchildren and a loving friend, Barbara McElroy of Greenwood.
Funeral services will be conducted 3PM Tuesday from the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Emily Allen officiating.
Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Chris Williams, Robin Williams, Ed Shealy, Cliff Akers, Blu Harrison and T. Harrison. Honorary escort will be members of the Joppa Masonic Lodge #387.
The family is at the home of his daughter, Terri Parks, 117 Hillside Drive, Hodges and will receive friends at the funeral home from 2 to 3 Tuesday afternoon.
Memorials may be made to Magnolia Manor, 1415 Parkway, Greenwood, SC 29646 or to Harris United Methodist Church, 501 Oakwood Drive, Greenwood, SC 29649.

Jeanette M. Hill
McCORMICK — Jeanette Murray Hill, widow of Claude Hill, died Monday, March 18, 2002, at the home of her mother, in McCormick.
She was a retired housekeeper and a Methodist.
Survivors include her mother, Mary Murray Calhoun of the home; two daughters, Angela Murray of McCormick and Chiqurta Murray of Mount Carmel; three sisters, Marine Jones of Greenwood, Linda Jean Murray and Brenda Murray, both of McCormick; two brothers, Bobby Murray of Greenwood and George Perrin of McCormick; and three grandchildren.
The family is at 24-G Willow Creek Apartments.
Services will be announced by Walker Funeral Home.

Fannie Martin
ABBEVILLE — Fannie Mae Green Martin, 92, of 83 Thomson Circle, widow of Robert Henry Martin Sr., died Monday, March 18, 2002, at Abbeville Nursing Home.
The family is at the home of a daughter, the Rev. James and Betty Long, 306 Haigler St.
Services will be announced by Harris Funeral Home.

Nina O. Parks
SALUDA — Nina Ouzts Parks, 79, of 9309 Highway 178 S., widow of Tom B. Parks, died Sunday, March 17, 2002.
Born in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of the late James Oscar and Essie Bryan Ouzts. She was a member of Friendship Pentecostal Holiness Church and a former employee of Greenwood Mills.
Survivors include a daughter, Judy; a brother, Deidrich Ouzts; and two sisters, Joyce Wilkerson of Johnston and Eunice Ouzts of Edgefield.
Services are at 2 Wednesday at Friendship Pentecostal Holiness Church, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation is from 7-8 tonight at Ramey Funeral Home.

NINETY SIX — Effie Mae Faulkner Durham, 84, formerly of Pinehaven Drive, widow of James Weldon Durham, died Tuesday, March 19, 2002 at Newberry County Hospital.
Visitation is from 6-8 Thursday at Blyth Funeral Home.
The family is at the home of a son, Steve Durham, 924 Highway 221 S.
Services will be announced by Blyth Funeral Home, Greenwood.

Bobbie Gable
McCORMICK - Bobbie Louise Martin Gable, 65, resident of Rt. 2, Hwy. 221, wife of Charles H. Gable, died March 19, 2002 at Self Regional Medical Center in Greenwood.
Born in Lincoln County, GA, September 3, 1936, she was a daughter of the late Bob Mitch and Sara Holder Martin. She was formerly employed by Riegel Textiles, McCormick Plant.
A member of Bethany Baptist Church, she was also a teacher in the Bible Learners Sunday School Class for 45 years, was president of the WMU of the church for 25 years and was a member of the church choir.
Surviving in addition to her husband of the home are two daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Keith Talbert of Greenwood, Kathy and Richard Cline of Bradley; a brother, O'Neil Martin of Lincolnton, GA; a sister, Judy Bufford of Abbeville; grandchildren, Russell and wife, Angel Cline, Rodney Cline, Chase Talbert and Catherine Talbert.
Mrs. Gable was predeceased by a son, Charles H. Gable, Jr.
Funeral services will be conducted 3PM Thursday at Bethany Baptist Church with Rev. C.B. Love, Jr. officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Charles Hollingsworth, Charles Fuller, Marvin Palmer, Herbie Wates, Robert Gable and Bubba Hudson.
The body is at Blyth Funeral Home in Greenwood where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 Wednesday evening.
The family is at the home on Hwy. 221.
Flowers are optional. Memorials may be made to Bethany Baptist Church Building Fund, 1414 Five Notch Road, Bradley, SC 29819.

Rena Grove
GREENWOOD — Rena Nicole Grove, 20, of 810 Maxwell Avenue, died Sunday, March 17, 2002 at Self Memorial Hospital.
Born in Georgetown, she was a daughter of Johnny Britton and Patricia Grove. She graduated from Emerald High School in 2001 and was attending Spartanburg Methodist College, where she was active in the Baptist Campus Ministries. She also worked with the Salvation Army at Camp Croft. She had lived at Connie Maxwell Children’s Home since January 1999 and attended Connie Maxwell Baptist Church.
Survivors include her mother of Greenwood; her father of New Orleans; and bothers and sisters, LaKeasha, Tontalyn, Anthony, Shanequa, Shomari, Laquanda, Caroline and Kejuan.
Services are at 4 Thursday at Connie Maxwell Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Doug Kauffmann. The body will be placed in the church at 2:30. Burial is in the Connie Maxwell Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Travis Mosley, Kamara Lighty, Steve Grove, John Jackson, Barry Kinard and Rodney Rutherford.
Honorary escorts are students of the Vass Cottage and the Hamilton Cottage.
Visitation is graveside after the service.

Rev. Randolph Hampton
McCORMICK — The Rev. Randolph H. Hampton, 91, died Tuesday, March 19, 2002.
Born in Edgefield County, he was a son of the late Randolph C. and Georgia Fuller Hampton. He was married to the late Anna Dorthea DeVore, the late Effie Marie Devlin Hampton and the late Rev. Janie Tucker Hampton. Educated in McCormick County schools, he attended Claflin College and was a minister from 1935-77. He was a member of Zion Chapel A.M.E. Church and pastor of several churches in the Abbeville/Greenwood District of the Piedmont Conference of the Seventh Episcopal District. His pastorates included St. Mary Circuit, Rockford, Glovers, Bailey Bethel Circuit, Bradley Circuit and Flat Rock Station. He was a member of Bethany Masonic Lodge No. 415.
Survivors include three sons, Edwin E. Hampton and George S. Hampton, both of Augusta, Ga., and Solomon B. Hampton of McCormick.
The family is at the home on Highway 25 South.
Services will be announced by Walker Funeral Home.

Fannie Martin
ABBEVILLE — Fannie Mae Greene Mabrey Martin, 92, of 83 Thomson Circle, widow of Robert Henry Martin Sr., died Monday, March 18, 2002, at Abbeville Nursing Home.
Born in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of the late John Bunyan and Alice Pauline Gregory Greene. She retired from Abbeville Manufacturing and was a member of Westside Baptist Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Alice Mabrey Cooper of Greenwood and Betty Martin Long and Joyce Martin Thompson, both of Abbeville; four sons, Ted Mabrey of Greenwood, Bob Mabry and Donny Martin, both of Abbeville and Robert Martin Jr. of Navasota, Texas ; a brother, Bill Greene of Abbeville; 21 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren.
Services are 2 p.m. today at Harris Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. James Long and the Rev. Bill Ellison. Burial is in Melrose Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Bobby Mabry, Brandon Thompson, Donnie McColl, Gary Miller, Wayne “Scooter” Brown, John Speed Hall and Tripp Bouknight.
The family is at the home of a daughter and son-in-law, the Rev. James and Betty Long, 306 Haigler St.
Memorials may be made to Westside Baptist Church, 306 Haigler St., Abbeville, S.C. 29620.

McCORMICK - Joanne Miller Mitchell, 82, resident of 508 S. Cherry Street, wife of John R. "Bob" Mitchell, died March 17, 2002 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Ft. Wayne, IN, May 1, 1919, she was a daughter of the late John Eby and Irene Keyser Miller. Formerly of Elkhart, IN, Mrs. Mitchell had made her home in McCormick since May, 2001.
She was a member of McCormick United Methodist Church.
Surviving in addition to her husband of the home are a son and daughter-in-law, John R. Jr. and Sue Mitchell of Savannah Lakes; a daughter and son-in-law, Jacqueline and Gene Grossman of Klamath Falls, OR; a sister, Audrey Batz of Glendale, AZ; a brother, Richard "Dick" Miller of Camarillo, CA; five grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be conducted 4PM Saturday at the McCormick United Methodist Church with Rev. Donald Clendaniel officiating.
The family will receive friends at the home of John and Sue Mitchell, 125 Elliott Circle in Savannah Lakes from 7 to 9 Thursday evening.
The family requests that flowers be omitted and memorials made to Abbeville County Memorial Hospital Foundation, PO Box 887, Abbeville, SC 29620 or to McCormick United Methodist Church Building Fund, PO Box 267, McCormick, SC 29835.
