James Eugene Coleman
ABBEVILLE — James Eugene Coleman, 75, of 400 Ferry St., husband of Louise Watt Coleman, died Tuesday, April 16, 2002, at Abbeville County Memorial Hospital.
Born in Abbeville County, he was a son of the late Solomon and Julia Chappel Coleman. He was a retired employee of the Monsanto Plant and an Army veteran. He was of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two daughters, Julia Bowie of the home and Janie M. Brown of Abbeville; a son, James W. Coleman of Abbeville; four sisters, Bessie Clarkson of Abbeville, Emma Coleman and Mammie Bailey, both of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Nettie Smith of Evanston, Ill.; two grandchildren reared in the home, Tracy Crawford and Daryl Bowie; five other grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services are 2 p.m. Friday at Brown and Walker Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Johnny Waller.
The family is at the home.

Ken Latham
BRADLEY - Kenneth Earl "Ken" Latham, 64, resident of 7408 Callison Road, husband of Emma Edwards Latham, died April 15, 2002 at his home.
Born in Anderson County, April 30, 1937, he was a son of the late James Hubert and Sally Parnell Latham. He was educated in the Iva schools and was a US Navy Veteran having served aboard the USS Sperry. He retired from Grede Foundry in Greenwood after 36 years service.
Mr. Latham was a member of Good Hope Baptist Church in Iva.
Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are a daughter and son-in-law, Sally and David Strawhorne of Donalds; a son and daughter-in-law, David and Sally Jo Latham of Bradley; a sister, Mrs. Marvin (Evelyn) Brown of Iva; a brother, Jack Latham of Greenwood; two grandchildren, Chase Latham and Karly Strawhorne.
Funeral services will be conducted 11AM Thursday from the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. George Boyd and Rev. Joe Blackwelder officiating.
Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Chad Latham, Scott Burriss, Roger Edwards, Chris Steifle, Bill Frank Walker and Roger Walker.
The family is at the home on Callison Road and will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 9 Wednesday evening.
Memorials may be made to Hospice Care of the Piedmont, 408 W. Alexander Avenue, Greenwood, SC 29646.

Janet Myers
GREENWOOD — Janet Tomlinson Myers, 68, of 201 Center St., widow of Robert Eugene Myers, died Tuesday, April 16, 2002, at her home.
Born in Polk County, Fla., she was a daughter of the late Ben and Bessie Drawdy Tomlinson. She graduated from Groveland High School, Groveland, Fla., and retired as office manager of Homestead Medical Center, Homestead, Fla. She was a member of First Assembly Church of God, Florida City, Fla.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Roy (Linda) Yelton, with whom she made her home; two sons, Richard Myers of Homestead and Ronald Myers of Micanopy, Fla.; two sisters, Shirley Nowatka of Panopampano, Fla., and Barbara Finder of Polk City, Fla.; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services are Friday at Palms Memorial Funeral Home, with burial in Palms Woodlawn Cemetery in Homestead.
Memorials may be made to Hospice Care of the Piedmont, 408 W. Alexander Ave., Greenwood, S.C. 29646.

Carolyn Reynolds
GREENWOOD - Carolyn Edwards Reynolds, 80, resident of 658 W. Kirksey Drive, wife of George Wallace Reynolds, died April 15, 2002 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Greer, August 27, 1921, she was a daughter of the late Carroll E. and Clara Davis Edwards. She was a 1938 graduate of Greer High School.
A member of Callie Self Memorial Baptist Church, she was also a member of the Ladies Bible Class and former Sunday School teacher and was a member of the WOM II Circle and the church choir.
Surviving in addition to her husband of the home are a son and daughter-in-law, Wally and Donnie Reynolds of Greenwood; two sisters, Becky McAnish of Tampa, FL and Imolene Jenkins of Seneca; a brother, Johnny Lee Edwards of Inman; three grandchildren, Mrs. Kevin (Susan) Coursey of Greenwood, Tripp Reynolds of the home and Tam Reynolds of Simpsonville; four great-grandchildren, Meggie Reynolds and Claudia Reynolds, both of Norris, Vonne Reynolds of Anderson and Hillary Coursey of Greenwood.
Funeral Services will be conducted 3PM Wednesday from the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Leland Scott officiating.
Entombment will be in the Greenwood Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
Pallbearers will be Irv Devore, Steve Bailey, Woody Payne, Norman Keesee, James Dove, Tripp Reynolds and Tam Reynolds.
Honorary escorts will be members of the Board of Deacons of Callie Self Memorial Baptist Church along with Phil Dorn and Keith Scott.
The family is at the home of Kevin and Susan Coursey, 426 Panacea Road in Augusta Fields and will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 to 3 Wednesday afternoon.
The family requests that flowers be omitted and memorials be made to Callie Self Memorial Baptist Church, 509 W. Kirksey Drive, Greenwood, SC 29646.

Mary Lou Addy
GREENWOOD - Mary Lou Proctor Addy, 84, widow of Frank Lyles Addy, died April 19, 2002 at Self Regional Healthcare Center.
Born in Dorchester County, August 31, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Adam David and Virginia Crook Proctor. She moved to Greenwood in 1933. Mrs. Addy was active in Greenwood's business community for years as co-owner of Frank Addy Jewelers in South Greenwood and later on Main Street.
Mrs. Addy was a charter member of St. Mark United Methodist Church and a member of the Adult One Sunday School Class. She helped organize the Proctor Circle at St. Mark, in memory of her mother, and was active in the Greenwood Pilot Club.
She was predeceased by her son, F. Robert Addy, Sr.
Surviving are a daughter-in-law, Mary Katherine Addy, of Greenwood; two grandsons, Frank R. Addy, Jr. of Greenwood and Dr. Douglas M. Addy of Columbia and four great-grandchildren, Sarah Nixon Addy, F. Robert Addy, III, Grayson Nell Addy and Lyles Cooper Addy.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 PM Sunday at St. Mark United Methodist Church in Greenwood with Rev. Ken Timmerman officiating.
Interment will be in Oakbrook Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Hardy "Bo" Coursey, Dennis Hammett, Bill Wilson, David Nichols, Joel Nichols, David Brown, Winston Morris and Jerry Latham.
Honorary escort will be members of the Adult Class of St. Mark United Methodist Church and the Pilot Club along with Joan Tollison, Dean Cox, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Lockaby and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Hudgens.
The body is at Blyth Funeral Home and will be placed in the church at 2:00 PM Sunday.
The family is at the home of Mary Katherine Addy and will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00 Saturday evening.
Memorials may be made to St. Mark United Methodist Church Building Fund, 550 Highway 72 Bypass Northwest, Greenwood, SC 29649 or to Wesley Commons Chapel Fund, 1110 Marshall Road, Greenwood, SC 29646.

Duane Inkster
ABBEVILLE — Duane J. Inkster, 73, of 711 Highway 28 N., widower of Miriam Powell Inkster, died Thursday, April 18, 2002, at Self Regional Medical Center in Greenwood.
Born in Geauga County, Ohio, he was a son of the late Jerry and Jessie Jacobs Inkster. He was a self-employed mechanic.
Survivors include a son, Mark Inkster of Abbeville; a daughter, Donna Inkster of Decatur, Ga.; a sister, Ila Klatka of Ohio; and three grandchildren.
Visitation is from 1-2 Sunday at Harris Funeral Home.
No further services are planned.
Memorials may be made to the Humane Society, P.O. Box 242, Greenwood, S.C. 29648.

Carrie W. Jackson
SPARTANBURG — Carrie W. Jackson, 54, formerly of Greenwood, died April 16, 2002, at Spartanburg Regional Hospital.
Born in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of the late Willie Williams and Ida Culbreath.
Survivors include two daughters, Pamela Oglesby and Debra Jackson, both of Spartanburg; and a brother, Willie Culbreath of Greenwood.

James R. ‘Jim’ Knapp
AUGUSTA — James R. “Jim” Knapp of Martin Lane, died Thursday, April 18, 2002, at St. Joseph Hospital.
Born in Canada, he lived most of his life in Georgia and Florida. He served in the Navy from 1965-69 and, while stationed at Andrews Air Force Base, he served in the National Armed Forces Honor Guard. A retired FAA air traffic controller, having worked at the Atlanta and Jacksonville centers, he was a designer, builder and fixer of homes.
Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Erna and John Busch of St. Simons Island; two sisters, Frances Knapp of Augusta and Deirdre Knapp of Alexandria, Va.; two brothers, Philip Knapp of Miami Beach, Fla., and Christopher Knapp of Nashville, Tenn.; “adopted” sister, Betty Till of Augusta; two stepdaughters, Lynsi Stewart of Amsterdam and Nikki Stewart Mathis of Orlando, Fla.; and stepsiblings, Eric Busch, Fred Busch and Myra Goetz of Ohio.
Memorial services are 3 p.m. Sunday at the 24 Hour Group Clubhouse on Riverside Boulevard, North Augusta, S.C., conducted by Chaplain Jeff Flowers.
His ashes will be returned to the coast of St. Simon’s Island.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at Elliott Sons Funeral Home.

Hope Mitchell Miller
GREENWOOD - Hope Mitchell Miller, resident of 110 Birch Trail, died April 18, at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
Born in Greenwood on January 27, 2002, she was the daughter of the Rev. Furman M. "Chip" Miller and Janette Pruitt Miller.
She was baptized and a member of St. Paul AME Church in Cokesbury.
Surviving in addition to her mother and father of the home a sister, Faith Miller of the home; a sister, Celeste Hentz Gilmore of Atlanta, Georgia; a brother, Rev. DeQuincy M. Hentz, of Cincinnati, Ohio; paternal grandmother Ethel Backus Miller of Greenwood; maternal great-grandmother, Magnolia Turner of Honea Path, several aunts, uncles and a number of relatives and friends of the family.
Services are 1:30 p.m. Monday at St. Paul AME Church, conducted by the Rev. Cornell Richardson. The body will be placed in the church at 12:30. Burial is in Evening Star Cemetery, Greenwood.
Visitation is from 12:30 to 1:30 at the church.
The family is at the home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Miller Family Fund Account, at Greenwood branches of First Union National Bank.

Doris Willis Sipe
HODGES- Doris Willis Sipe, 70, of 212 Daniel Road, wife of Floyd Douglas Sipe, died Thursday, April 18, 2002 at Self Memorial Hospital.
Born in McCormick County; a daughter of the late Daniel Clifton and Annie Mae Ferqueron Shannon. She was formerly employed with the Durst Plant of Greenwood Mills and was of the Baptist faith. She was predeceased by a son William "Mike" Willis and a daughter Ann Willis Dixon.
Surviving in addition to her husband of the home are a sister and brother-in-law Melvin and Mary Findley of Jackson, GA; a daughter Shirley Long of Greenwood; 6 grandchildren Scott Long of Easley, Tammy Long Moore of Kingsport, TN; Anna Parker, Michael Willis, Michelle Willis, and Kathleen Long all of Greenwood, five great-grandchildren Deanna Willis, Hailey Willis, Kirsten Willis, Terry Douglas Parker all of Greenwood and Joseph Luke Moore of Kingsport, TN.
Services will be 2:00 Sunday at Harley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Charles Caldwell officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Burgeson, Johnny Coates, Frankie Coates, Stewart Lake, Jim Batson, Otis Harvley, Tony Sipe, John McKee, Jim Bergen, and Stan Farmer.
The body is at Harley Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Saturday night from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m.

Benjamin F. Smart, Jr.
SPARTANBURG, SC - Benjamin Franklin Smart, Jr., 90, of 104 Birch Grove, died Thursday, April 18, 2002. A native of Clayton, AL, he was the husband of Marguerite Robins Smart of the home and a son of the late Dr. Benjamin Franklin Smart, Sr. and Zubia Ford Smart. He was the retired manager of Westgate Theater after over 40 years of service and was retired from the Coca-Cola Bottling Company after 17 years of service. He was a member of Fernwood Baptist Church, the Kiwanis Club, past Commander of the American Legion, a former member of the Lion's Club, and was involved in many other civic endeavors in Spartanburg. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Rita S. Cochran of Taylors; two sons, Benjamin F. Smart, III of Spartanburg, and William A. Smart of Cary, NC; two sisters, Julie LaGrone of Ft. Worth, TX, and Catherine Word of Birmingham, AL; a brother, Dr. Ford Smart of Asheville, NC; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, April 20, 2002, in the William L. Ball, Jr. Chapel of Fernwood Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Dr. P. Randall Wright.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fernwood Baptist Church, 200 Fernwood Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29302, or to Mobile Meals Service, P. O. Box 461, Spartanburg, SC 29304.
