GREENWOOD — Services for Mandy Higgins Harrison, of 206 Sullivan St., are 1 p.m. Sunday at Springfield Baptist Church, Edgefield, conducted by Floyd Harrison, assisted by the Revs. Fannie Clark and H.P. Mooney. The body will be placed in the church at noon. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers are grandsons.
Flower bearers are granddaughters.
Visitation is from 6-7 Saturday at Robinson & Son Mortuary.
Robinson & Son Mortuary Inc. is in charge.

Eunice Price New
McCORMICK — Eunice Price New, 79, widow of Claude D. New, died Wednesday, May 1, 2002, at Self Regional Medical Center in Greenwood.
Born in McCormick, she was a daughter of the late Henry Price and Eliza Gilchrist Price Wells. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and New Hope Burial Aide Society and served as a missionary.
Survivors include a daughter, Milly Price of Thomson, Ga.; a son, Eddie Price of McCormick; and a sister, Annie Bell Price of Baltimore.
Services are 2 p.m. Sunday at New Hope Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. J.C. Williams, pastor. The body will be placed in the church at 1. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers are church officers, and ushers are flower bearers.
The family is at the home, 509 Brown St.
Walker Funeral Home is in charge.

Hilda E. Nichols
COLUMBIA — Hilda Lee Ellis Nichols, 78, of 3514 Sidney Road, widow of Charles Phillip Nichols, died Wednesday, May 1, 2002, at The Baptist Medical Center.
Born in Abbeville County, she was a daughter of the late John M. and Rosa Lee Taylor Ellis. She was a medical laboratory technician and a member of the Catholic Church.
Survivors include two sons, Charles Phillip Nichols Jr. and Gregory P. Nichols, both of Laurel, Md.; a daughter, Cynthia Nichols Grimes of Laurel, Md.; four sisters, Aline E. Evans of Calhoun Falls, Isabelle E. Young of Abbeville, Syble E. Lyons of Plum Branch and Jean E. Still of Greenwood; three brothers, John H. Ellis of Swainsboro, Ga., William E. Ellis of Antreville and Victor R. Ellis of Arnold, Md.; eight grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Graveside services are 2 p.m. Saturday at Long Cane Cemetery in Abbeville.
Visitation is after the services at the cemetery.
Family members are at their respective homes.
Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Wyatt Templeton
GREENWOOD - Wyatt Floyd Templeton, 89, resident of 1101 Florence Street, husband of Frances McDowell Templeton, died May 1, 2002 at National Health Care of Greenwood.
Born in Ninety Six, June 16, 1912, he was the son of the late George Floyd and Mary Jester Templeton. He was a graduate of Ninety Six High School and was retired from the Postal Service and Seaboard Railroad in 1975 as a contract carrier.
A member of Main Street United Methodist Church, he was also a 40-year member of the TPA Association.
Frequently Mr. Templeton spoke proudly of his memories of his Ninety Six High School Class of 1932 which defeated Sardis of Columbia for the State Football Title, where he played as receiver on the team.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 64 years are a daughter, Mrs. Jim (Lynn) Lindsey of Nashville, TN; two sons, Thomas "Tommy" Templeton of Rock Hill and J. Barry Templeton of Greer; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2PM Saturday from the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. J. William Harris officiating.
Burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be William Hollingsworth, John C. Young, Thomas Settles, Laurin Young, Danny Jones, Lamar Smith, Rev. Joseph Walker, Les Scheer, Jones Bell and Hayward Stroud.
The family is at the home on Florence Street and will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 to 2 Saturday afternoon.
Memorials may be made to an organization for degenerative eye disease, Retinitis Pigmentosa International, PO Box 900, Woodland Hills, CA 91365 or the charity of one's choice.

John W. Bearden
CROSS HILL — John W. Bearden, 78, of 749 McCrary Road, husband of Hazel Thomas Bearden, died Thursday, May 2, 2002, at Eisenhower Medical Center, Fort Gordon, Ga. The family is at the home.
Services will be announced by Harley Funeral Home, Greenwood.

Laura Bell Cartledge
PLUM BRANCH — Laura Bell Cartledge, 48, wife of Leroy Cartledge, died Thursday, May 2, 2002, at University Hospital in Augusta.
Born in McCormick, she was a daughter of John Archie Singletary Sr. and the late Virginia Murray Singletary. She was a member of Cedar Spring Baptist Church, where she served in the Y.W.A. and the Gospel Choir. A retired textile employee, she was a member of Mount Moriah Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include her husband of the home; her father of the home; two sons, Terrence Lamont Cartledge of Plum Branch and Cory Lee Cartledge of Greenville; a daughter, LaPortia Singletary of the home; six sisters, Dorothy Price, Robbie Singletary, Geraldine Singletary, Thelma Singletary and Joann Singletary, all of Washington , D.C., and Brenda Singletary of Capitol Heights, Md.; three brothers, George Wise Singletary of McCormick, Larry Singletary and John Archie Singletary Jr., both of Detroit; and two grandchildren.
The family is at the home, New Hope Road.
Services will be announced by Walker Funeral Home, McCormick.

Bob Matthews
GREENWOOD — Robert “Bob” Gilbert Matthews, 79, of 614 Pembroke Road, widower of Poconna Cauble Matthews, died Friday, May 3, 2002, at Wesley Commons.
Born in Florence County, he was a son of the late Leo and Fannie Ola Gause Matthews. He graduated from Greenwood High School and retired from North Carolina Industries, Asheville Plant. He was a member of Hodges Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include a son, Frank Leo Matthews of Baltimore; a stepson, Rusty Cauble of Weaverville, N.C., two stepdaughters, Robin Bell of Ardin, N.C., and Denise Elkin of Asheville, N.C.; a sister, Mrs. Otto (Betty) McDonald of Greenwood.
Services are 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Valley View Methodist Church, Mountain City, Tenn., conducted by Mr. Otto McDonald. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30. Burial is in Phillipi Cemetery.
Pallbearers are nephews.
Visitation is from 1:30-2:30 Sunday at the church.
Memorials may be made to Hospice Care of the Piedmont, 408 West Alexander Ave., Greenwood, S.C. 29646.

Helen C. Reynolds
WARE SHOALS — Helen Monroe Culbertson Reynolds, 91, died Thursday, May 2, 2002, in Memphis, Tenn.
Born in Princeton, S.C., she was a daughter of the late Andrew Jackson and Sophia Machan Monroe. She attended Central Church in Memphis and was a member of Ware Shoals First Baptist Church. She was twice married, to the late Thomas Roy Culbertson and the late Linton C. Reynolds.
Survivors include a son, Thomas R. Culbertson Jr. of Collierville, Tenn.; a stepdaughter, Eleanor Reynolds Hale of Chapel Hill, N.C.; a sister, Gladys Thomason of Simpsonville; a brother, Ernest Monroe of Augusta; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Services are 3 p.m. today at Collierville Funeral Home, Tennessee.
Visitation is from 1-2 Tuesday at Greenwood Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel, with graveside services at 2.
Memorials may be made to Central Church, Collierville, Tenn., or First Baptist Church, Ware Shoals.
Parker-White Funeral Home is in charge.

Cleo Gastley
GREENWOOD — Cleo West Gastley, 90, of Eden Gardens, formerly of Thompson Drive, widow of Thomas L. Gastley, died Saturday, May 4, 2002, at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Daniel H. and Leila Dailey West. She was retired from Greenville General Hospital. Formerly of Greenville, she had made her home in Greenwood since 1978 and was a member of Rice Memorial Baptist Church.
Survivors include two brothers, D.H. West of Greensboro, N.C. and Edward West of Inberness, Fla. and nieces and nephews.
Graveside services are at 11 Tuesday in Greenville Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Alvin Hodges. The body is at Blyth Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Rice Memorial Baptist Church, 1975 Highway 72 West, Greenwood, S.C. 29649.

Robert H. Martin Jr.
BRENHAM, Texas — Robert Henry “Bobby” Martin Jr., 64, of Navasota, died Tuesday, April 30, 2002, at his home.
Born in Abbeville, S.C., he was a son of Robert H. Martin Sr. and Fannie Mae Green Martin. He graduated from high school in Abbeville and served in the Army. A retiree of Durham Transportation, Navasota, he was also former owner of Overlook Marina.
Survivors include a son, Sheppard Blain Martin of Brenham; a daughter, Mrs. Lorenzo (Melanie) Vega of Brenham; three brothers, Robert L. Mabry, Ted Mabry and Donnie Martin, all of South Carolina; three sisters, Betty Long, Joyce Dale Thompson and Alice Cooper, all of South Carolina; and former wife, Betty Martin of Brenham.
Services were Monday at Memorial Oaks Chapel, conducted by the Rev. E. Glynn Ferguson. Burial was in Prairie Lea Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Lorenzo Vega, Shep Martin, Mike Warchesik, George Long, Jessie Vega and Brian Robinson. Memorial Oaks Chapel was in charge.

Henry Puckett
GREENWOOD — Services for Henry Puckett of Atlanta are at 2 Wednesday at St. Paul F.B.H. Church, conducted by the Rev. Lela Breeze. The body will be placed in the church at 1. Burial is in Evening Star Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers and flower bearers are friends of the family.
The family is at the home of a daughter, LaBrentha Barlow, 13-C Greenwood Garden Apartments.

Richard M. Quattlebaum
DALLAS — Richard Manly Quattlebaum, 86, retired Navy commander, husband of Georgie Quattlebaum, died Saturday, May 4, 2002.
Born in Anderson County, S.C., he was a son of Julius William and Sara Manly Quattlebaum. At age 17, he joined the Navy as an apprentice seaman and was promoted to an officer when World War II began. He served 2½ years in the South Pacific and was responsible for fleet plane maintenance during the Solomon Islands and Bismarck Archipelago campaigns. Retiring from the Navy in November 1963 after 30 years of service, he moved to Dallas and went to work for E-Systems in Garland, Texas . He was a member of Park Cities Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and a member of Zacks Sunday School Class.
Survivors include his wife; three children, Richard Manly Quattlebaum Jr., Sara Q. Smith and Ruth Q. Turpin; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Memorial services are 1 p.m. today at Park Cities Baptist Church, with visitation after the services in the church reception area.

John L. Stewart
GREENWOOD — John L. Stewart, 91, of National Healthcare, widower of Gussie Lee Lyson Stewart, died Sunday, May 5, 2002, at his home.
Born in Greenwood County, he was a son of the late Thomas and Mamie Stewart. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Cora Lee Robinson of Greenwood; a stepdaughter, Gwen Watts of New York City; a grandchild and a great-grandchild.
The family is at the home of Cora Robinson, 131 Rock Church Road.
Services will be announced by Percival-Tompkins Funeral Home.

Herbert A. Thompson
GREENWOOD - Herbert Arnold Thompson, 77, of 423 East Cambridge Ave., died Saturday, May 4, 2002 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Lowndesville, he was a son of the late William W. and Lillie Louise Huckabee Thompson. He was a graduate of Wofford College, where he served as business manager of the "Old Gold & Black" college newspaper. He was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity, the Blue Key National Honor Society and the Senior Order of Knomes. He was the former owner of The Washeteria for 25 years and was retired from Cullum Electric. He was a US Army veteran of World War II and was a former member of the American Legion Post 20 and the Greenwood Jaycees. He was also a member of Main Street United Methodist Church.
Surviving are two brothers, Heyward E. Thompson of Greenwood and Douglass Thompson of Abbeville; a sister-in-law, Mary M. Thompson of Greenwood and a number of nieces and nephews.
Services were at 2 pm Monday at Greenwood Memorial Gardens Mausoleum with the Rev. Larry Jenkins officiating.
Pallbearers were nephews.
Memorials may be made to Main Street United Methodist Church, 201 North Main Street, Greenwood, SC 29646.
Harley Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
