CROSS HILL — Markevious Omar Light, 3 months, of 242 Longview Road, son of Brandy Hill and Corine Light, died Monday, May 13, 2002 at Laurens County Hospital.
He was born in Greenwood County.
Survivors include his father of Laurens; his mother of the home; two brothers, Derricki Light and Shaydravis Light, both of Greenwood; paternal grandmother, Diephane Hill of Laurens; maternal grandmother, Mae Lizzie Floyd of Cross Hill; and maternal great-grandmother, Louella Parks of Cross Hill.
The family is at the home.
Services will be announced by Robinson & Son Mortuary Inc., Greenwood.

Caroline S. Moss
GREENWOOD — Caroline Simpkins Moss, 90, formerly of 235 Reynolds Ave., widow of Robert Moss, died Monday, May 13, 2002, at National Health Care.
Born in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of the late Richard and Janie Mathis Simpkins. She was a member of Flint Hill Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a former usher and a former member of the choir and the Burial Aide Society. She was also a former member of the Greenwood Active Daycare Center.
Survivors include a son, J.E. Moss of the home; two daughters, Janie Lee Settles of Newport News, Va., and Dorothy Hawkins of Ninety Six; eight grandchildren, four reared in the home, Lewis Settles, Mary Ida Moss, Doris Morgan and Loretta Moss; 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services are 3 p.m. Friday at Flint Hill Missionary Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. John R. Brightharp. The body will be placed in the church at 2. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers are church trustees and deacons.
Flower bearers are nieces.
Visitation is from 7-8 Thursday at Robinson & Son Mortuary.
The family is at the home of her son, J.E. Moss, 235 Reynolds Ave.

GREENWOOD — Lesa Louise Rush, 56, of 108 Kimbrook Drive, died Tuesday, May 14, 2002, at Wesley Commons.
Born in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of Faye Shannon Rush and the late Charles M. Rush. She was a graduate of Greenwood High School and a member of Main Street United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her mother of the home and a brother, Jeffrey S. Rush of Greenwood.
Graveside services are 4 p.m. Thursday in Greenwood Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Larry Jenkins.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at Blyth Funeral Home.

Heyward Thompson
GREENWOOD — Heyward Earl Thompson, 82, of 705 Old Brickyard Road, widower of Marie Riggs Thompson, died Monday, May 13, 2002, at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Abbeville County, he was a son of the late William W. and Lilly Louise Huckabee Thompson. He was a World War II Army veteran and a retiree of Stockman Oil Co. A charter member of Laurel Baptist Church, he was a member of the Adult Bible Class, an usher and a former deacon.
Survivors include two daughters, Joan T. McCraw and Judy T. Rains, both of Greenwood; a son, Perry E. Thompson of Greenwood; a brother, C. Douglass Thompson of Abbeville; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services are 3 p.m. Wednesday at Laurel Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. Todd Johnson, James Ridgeway and Billy Huff. The body will be placed in the church at 2. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are Lee Funderburk, Rusty Ramsey, Keith Satterfield, John Sproles Tucker, Ricky Aga and Drew Darby.
Honorary escorts are members of the Adult Bible Class of the church.

Joe Thornton
GREENWOOD - Joseph Bell "Joe" Thornton, 68, resident of 105 Glendale Avenue, husband of Revonda Russell Thornton, died May 14, 2002 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Ware Shoals, January 14, 1934, he was a son of the late Ford M. and Lilie Bell Howard Thornton. He was a graduate of Ware Shoals High School, Greenwood College of Commerce and Piedmont Technical College. He was a US Air Force Veteran serving during the Korean War.
Mr. Thornton retired as Human Resources Director for Greenwood Mills - Denim Division.
A member of West Side Baptist Church and the Adult I - Men I Sunday School Class, he formerly served as director of Sunday School, Sunday School teacher, Deacon, Usher and Senior Citizens Coordinator of the church. He was a volunteer with the South Carolina Baptist Convention Disaster Relief Program and was a volunteer at Self Regional Medical Center.
Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are a daughter and son-in-law, Katherine and Glen Anderson of Greenwood; sons and daughters-in-law, J. Matthew "Matt" and Susan Thornton of Greenwood and B. Todd and Tammy Thornton of Blythewood; three brothers, Thomas Thornton of Greenville, Mack Thornton of Aiken and Billy Thornton of Smyrna, TN; two sisters, Ray Nell Brown of Anderson and Mary McWhorter of Ware Shoals; grandchildren, Amber Michele Weeks, Jacob Matthew Thornton, Rebecca Elaine Thornton, Taylor Michelle Thornton and Erin Grace Anderson.
Funeral services will be conducted 2PM Thursday at West Side Baptist Church with Rev. Hal Lane officiating.
Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Steve McWhorter, Mark Brown, Tim Warner, David Bradberry, Huey Holsonback, Mark Bryant, Mike Velez and Thomas Thornton.
Honorary escort will be members of the Adult I Men I Sunday School Class, Deacons and former Deacons of West Side Baptist Church, the volunteer staff of Self Regional Medical Center along with Clarence Wilson, Harvey Scott, Ralph Still, Smiley Bryant, John Hastings, Donald Crocker, Bill Whaley, Jim Smith, Dale Boyd and Frank Robertson.
The body is at Blyth Funeral Home and will be placed in the church at 1 PM Thursday.

GREENWOOD — Kimberly Moon Winchester, 35, of 1002 Siloam Church Road, died Tuesday, May 14, 2002.
Born in Greenwood, she was a daughter of Richard Moon Sr. and Dorothy Cannon Moon. She was an employee of McDonald’s Restaurant, South Main Street, and a member of New Life Baptist Church.
Survivors include her parents of Greenwood; two sons, Brandon Michael Winchester and Steven Darrin Winchester, and a daughter, Kayla Dianne Winchester, all of the home; a sister, Sheri Lynn Winchester of Greenwood; and a brother, Richard Moon Jr. of Greenwood.
Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at Harley Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. William C. McManus and the Rev. A.L. “Bud’ Tumblin. Burial is in Edgewood Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Kenneth Turner Jr., Billy Wayne Stevens, Lonnie McManus, Jay Cannon, Jeff Cannon and Travis Fuller.

WILMINGTON, N.C. — Katherine M. Worrell, 82, widow of Edward E. Worrell, died Tuesday, May 14, 2002, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
Born in Sumter, S.C., she was a daughter of the late William A. and Edna Seymour McDaniel. She was a member of First Baptist Church and a graduate of ECTC (East Carolina University).
Survivors include a son, Ed Worrell Jr. of Wilmington; a grandson; and a brother, W.A. McDaniel Jr. of Ninety Six.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, conducted by Dr. Michael G. Queen. Burial is in Oleander Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are members of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
Visitation is from 7-8 Thursday at Andrews Mortuary, Market Street.

Claud W. Bond Jr.
ABBEVILLE — Claud William Bond Jr., 78, of 117 McGowan Ave., widower of Rebecca Baughman Bond, died Wednesday, May 15, 2002, at the VA Medical Center in Augusta.
Born in Abbeville, he was a son of the late Claud William Bond Sr. and May Jones Bond. He was a member of Abbeville First Baptist Church since 1938, a retired engineer from Seaboard Coastline Railroad and a founding member of IBEW in Augusta. He was a member of the Railroad UTU and Abbeville Masonic Lodge and a Navy World War II veteran.
Survivors include a son, Claud W. Bond III of Abbeville; three daughters, Margaret Lois Wikman of Riverview, Mich., Rebecca Fernandez of Abbeville and Marion B. Ware of Due West; three brothers, Francis Bond of Mount Airy, Ga., Marion Bond of Lake Alfred, Fla., and Leroy Bond of Cedar Bluff, Ala.; a sister, Lois Ashcraft of Spartanburg; 10 grandchildren, one formerly of the home, Brian Szmykowski; and a great-grandchild.
Graveside services are 11 a.m. Friday in Melrose Cemetery, conducted by the Revs. Reiny Koschel and Johnnie Waller.
Visitation is from 6-8 tonight at Harris Funeral Home.

GREENWOOD --Annie Bell Scott Dolford, of 208 Lanham St., Greenwood, died Monday at her home.
Born in Greenwood County, a member of the Good Hope Baptist Church in Hodges, S.C., where she served the Pulpit Aid Ministry, and Willing Workers Ministry. She graduated from Brewer High School as valedictorian of the class of 1952. She was employed for Homeline Furniture Industries, Phil, Pa., she retired after 26 years of services as Sales Manager.
She is survived by her husband, Ernest M. Dolford of the home; two daughters, Pamela Scott of the home and Gwendolyn Curry of Phil., PA.; one son, Darrell Scott of Phil., Pa.; one stepdaughter, Belinda Clyburn of Sickleville, N.J.; two stepsons, James Small of Bear, Delaware and Tony Harnell Dolford of Upper Darby, Pa.; her parents, Frank and Alma Hill Scott of Greenwood, S.C.; one brother, Frank Scott, Jr. of New Field, N.J.; two grandchildren reared in the home, Darrell Scott and Larry Scott of Phil., Pa.; two stepgrandchildren, Tarshimia Small and James Small, Jr. of Bear, Delaware; four sisters-in-law, Willie Mae Hayes of Florence, S.C., Rosalie Goshia of Phil., Pa., Viola Lovell of Brooklyn, N.Y. and Hattie Evelyn Reed of Warren, Ohio; two brothers-in-law, Curley Dolford of Florence, S.C. and Marion Dolford of Schurtz, Texas ; five aunts, Hattie Cunningham of Waterloo, S.C., Evelyn Hill Beasley and Winnie Lee Peterson of Laurens, S.C., Nancy Scott of Anderson, S.C. and Winnie Mae Lane of Phil., Pa.; four uncles, Johnny Green Hill of Laurens, S.C., Roosevelt Scott of Anderson, S.C., Oscar Scott of Phil., Pa. and Benjamin Scott of Long Island, N.Y.; niece, nephews, special sisters, Daisy Mae Bailey, Mattie Ruth Hackett and Doris Wolfe, all of Phil., Pa. and Estelle Anderson of Hodges, S.C.; a host of cousins, relatives and friends.

NORTH AUGUSTA — Virginia S. Jennings, 69, of West Martintown Road, wife of David C. Jennings, died Tuesday, May 14, 2002.
A native of Walhalla, she lived in Augusta for the past 43 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church of North Augusta and the Priscilla-Aquilla Sunday School Class, and Finance Department manager of Collier-Jennings Inc.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Gerald Jennings of Aiken and the Rev. Gene Jennings of North Augusta; a daughter, Debbie J. Eubanks of North Augusta; her mother, Mattie Mae Sanders of Belvedere; a brother, Carl Sanders of Los Angeles; two sisters, Mary Hill of Aiken and Dorothy Dukes of Orangeburg; and eight grandchildren.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church of North Augusta, conducted by the Rev. Jerry T. Matthews, Dr. Martin Baker and Chaplain Allen Faulkner. Burial is in Sunset Memory Gardens.

GREENWOOD -- H. Marvin Smith, 82, resident of 1402 E. Durst Avenue, husband of Margie Moon Smith, died May 14, 2002 at the Richard M. Campbell Nursing Home in Anderson.
Born in Milan, GA, November 19, 1919, he was a son of the late Benjamin C. and Annie McGhee Smith. He was a US Army Veteran of WW II having served in both the Pacific and European Theatres. He was retired from Alexander Amusement Company.
Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are a daughter, Marie Vick of Columbia and a son, Rodger Smith of Greenwood; a sister, Mrs. B. M. Harrison of Laurens; a brother, Homer Smith of Tucson, AZ; two granddaughters, April Godfrey and Amy Smith; a great-granddaughter, Destiny Love Godfrey; three nephews, Frank Boxx, Jr., Dennis Harrison and Rev. Buddy Harrison; a great-nephew, Patrick Grayson Boxx.
Funeral services will be conducted 2PM Friday from the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joseph Ouzts, Rev. Billy Huff and Rev. Lindsey Powell officiating.
