Rev. James Tollison
GREENWOOD — The Rev. James William Tollison, 76, of 120 Avondale Road, husband of Bernice Alverson Tollison, died Wednesday, May 15, 2002, at his home.
Born in Greenville County, he was a son of the late Jesse W. and Charlotte Russell Tollison. A Ware Shoals High School graduate and a Navy World War II veteran, he was ordained in 1963 as a minister with the Upper South Carolina Conference of the Pentecostal Holiness Church. He was a former pastor of Lakeside P.H. Church, Greenwood, Amick Grove P.H. Church, Batesburg-Leesville, Reedy Grove P.H. Church, Waterloo, Bath P.H. Church, Bath, and was most recently pastor of Church on Fire Worship Center (formerly Grendel P.H. Church) in Greenwood.
Survivors include his wife of the home; three daughters, Linda Suddeth Cox and Nancy T. Cox, both of Greenwood and Judy T. Enlow of Batesburg-Leesville; two sons, Edward Suddeth of Greenwood and Joseph Tollison of Batesburg-Leesville; a brother, Jesse Tollison Jr. of Greenwood; three sisters, Doris T. Fowler and Betty T. Madden, both of Ware Shoals and Grace T. Bunch of Knoxville, Tenn.; eight grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.
Services are 3 p.m. Friday at South Greenwood Pentecostal Holiness Church, conducted by the Rev. Ray Buchanan, conference superintendent, Dr. Ron Carpenter Sr. and the Rev. Shane Cox. The body will be placed in the church at 2. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are Dustin Suddeth, Reggie Enlow, Michael Tollison, Mark Jones, Grig Sawyer, Russell Tollison and Alvin Smith.
Honorary escorts are ministers of the Upper South Carolina Conference of the Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Visitation is from 6-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.
The family is at the home.
Memorials may be made to Church on Fire Pentecostal Holiness Church Building Fund, 435 E. Durst Ave., Greenwood, S.C. 29649.

Sara H. Bagwell
LAURENS — Sara Hellams Bagwell, 93, of 201 Furman St., widow of Samuel E. Bagwell, died Wednesday, May 15, 2002, at National Health Care.
Born in Laurens County, she was a daughter of the late John Robert and Emmie Stone Hellams. She retired from Laurens Mill and was a member of Laurens Second Baptist Church, where she was a former Sunday School teacher.
Survivors include two brothers, the Rev. Floyd Hellams of Clinton and the Rev. Lloyd Hellams of Columbia.
Graveside services are 5 p.m. today in Rabun Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. J.D. Shiflet.
Visitation is after the service.
Family members are at their respective homes.
Memorials may be made to Laurens Second Baptist Church, 416 Fleming St., Laurens, S.C. 29360.

John W. Bearden
CROSS HILL — John W. Bearden, 78, of 749 McCrary Road, husband of Hazel Thomas Bearden, died Thursday, May 2, 2002, at Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center, Fort Gordon, Ga.
Born in Greenwood, he was a son of the late T.W. and Essie Ammons Bearden. He retired from the Air Force, serving during World War II, the Korean conflict and the Vietnam War. A member of Lafayette Lodge A.F.M., Gaffney, he was a Scottish Rite Mason and a Methodist.
Survivors include his wife of the home; a daughter, Pamela Hackmeyer of Mobile, Ala.; and two grandchildren.
Memorial services were 2 p.m. Thursday in Oakbrook Memorial Park, Greenwood, conducted by the Rev. Sandy Scott.

Claud W. Bond, Jr.
ABBEVILLE - Claud William Bond, Jr., 78 resident of 117 McGowan Avenue, husband of the late Rebecca Baughman Bond, died Wednesday May 15, 2002 at The VA Medical Center in Augusta, Georgia.
Born in Abbeville, South Carolina November 3, 1923 he was a son of the late Claud William Sr. and May Jones Bond. He had been a member of the Abbeville First Baptist Church since 1938, retired as an engineer from the Seaboard Coastline Railroad, was a founding member of IBEW of Augusta, Georgia, member of the Railroad UTU, WWII Veteran of the U.S. Navy and a member of the Abbeville Masonic Lodge.
Surviving are one son; Claud W. Bond, III and wife Robyn of Abbeville, three daughters; Margaret Lois Wikman and husband Robert of Riverview, MI, Rebecca Fernandez and husband Bobby of Abbeville and Marion B. Ware of Due West, South Carolina, 10 grandchildren, the oldest grandchild, Brian Szmykowski is formerly of the home and 1 great grandchild, 3 brothers; Francis Bond of Mt. Airy, Georgia, Marion Bond of Lake Alfred, Florida and Leroy Bond of Cedar Bluff, Alabama, one sister; Lois Ashcraft of Spartanburg, South Carolina. He was predeceased by a brother, Jack Bond.
Graveside services will be 11A.M. Friday at Melrose Cemetery with Rev. Reiny Koschel and Rev. Johnnie Waller officiating. The family respectfully requests that flowers be omitted and memorials be made to The Claud Bond Scholarship Fund, % Abbeville Seaboard System Credit Union, 603 E. Greenwood Street, Abbeville, SC 29620.
The body is at Harris Funeral Home where the family received friends from 6-8P.M. Thursday. The family is at the home of a daughter, Rebecca Fernandez, 119 McGowan Avenue, Abbeville.
Harris Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Rev. Earnest E. Drake
GREENWOOD — The Rev. Earnest Edward Drake, 76, of 103 Hyatt St., husband of Ida Pearl Frazier Drake, died Wednesday, May 15, 2002, at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Albany, N.Y., he was a son of the late Obie Zeigler and Madelene Sims. He was a member of Metropolitan New Testament Mission Baptist Church, Albany.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Earnest Drake Jr. and Fredrick Drake; two daughters, Ferdonia Walker and Princene Drake Warren; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Services are noon Monday at Metropolitan New Testament Mission Baptist Church, with burial in Albany Memory Gardens.
Garland Brothers Funeral Home, Albany, is in charge.
Parks Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

Rev. F.W. Goff
CLEVELAND, Tenn. — The Rev. F.W. Goff, 86, widower of Syble Cooper Goff, died Wednesday, May 15, 2002, in Cleveland.
Born in Greenwood, S.C., he was a son of the late John Henry and Cora Wells Goff. After graduation from Lee University, he spent much of his early ministry pioneering the growth of many churches in the western United States, serving as pastor in Phoenix and in Salem, Ore. He was State Overseer of the Church of God in Washington , Oregon, Idaho, Illinois, Ohio, West Virginia and South Carolina and was pastor of several churches, including Central Parkway Church of God, Cincinnati and North Cleveland Church of God, Cleveland, Tenn. He served eight years as publisher of the Church of God International Publishing House and on the Executive Council for 12 years.
Survivors include four sons, Jerry Goff and Wally Goff, both of Nashville, Dale Goff and Don Goff, both of Cleveland; three sisters, Irene Haltiwanger, Lois McKinney and Gladys Hardy and a brother, Billy Ray Goff, all of Greenwood; and four grandchildren.
Services are 11:30 a.m. today at the North Cleveland Church of God.
Memorials may be made to the F.W. and Syble Goff Scholarship Fund, Lee University, P.O. Box 3450, Cleveland, TN 37320.

James Phillips
GREENWOOD — James Clyde Phillips, 62, of 128 Mountain Shore Drive, husband of Kay Gettys Phillips, died Monday, May 13, 2002, at his home.
Born in Greenville County, he was a son of the late Andrew Attaway and Margaret Gardo Phillips. He was a Navy veteran and retired from Monsanto.
Survivors include to his wife of the home; three sons, Mike Phillips, Mark Phillips and Brian Phillips, all of Greenwood; a brother, Kenneth Ray Phillips of Greenwood; a sister, Judith Ann Phillips of Greenville; two grandchildren.
Graveside services were 10 a.m. Thursday in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be made to Hospice Care of the Piedmont, 408 W. Alexander Ave., Greenwood, S.C. 29646.

GREENWOOD — Graveside services for Guy “Buck” Sayles Jr. are noon Saturday in Evening Star Memorial Gardens.
The family is at the home of a sister, Shirley Moragne, 459 Vaughn St.

GREENWOOD — Claudia Lee Duncan Smith, 87, formerly of Morgan Street, of Alterra Sterling House of Greenwood, widow of Robert C. Smith, died Thursday, May 16, 2002, at Self Regional Medical Center.
Services will be announced by Harley Funeral Home.

Evelyn L. Brown
IVA — Evelyn Latham Brown, of 402 Johnny Long Road, wife of Marvin E. “Bob” Brown, died Friday, May 17, 2002, at Elbert County Hospital, Elberton, Ga.
Born in Abbeville, she was a daughter of the late James H. and Sally Parnell Latham. She retired from Bigelow Sanford Mill, Calhoun Falls and was a member of Good Hope Baptist Church, Iva.
Survivors include her husband of the home; a daughter, Jane B. Burdette of Greenwood; a brother, Jack Latham of Greenwood; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Graveside services are 3 p.m. today in Iva City Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Curtis Bundy.
Family members are at their respective homes.
Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Betty Entrekin
IVA — Betty Rose Branyon Entrekin, 71, of 12 Entrekin Lane, widow of Charles Entrekin Jr., died Friday, May 17, 2002, at her home.
Born in Abbeville County, she was a daughter of the late Jefferson Davis and Martha Louise Ware Branyon. She was a homemaker and a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church, Antreville, where she was chairwoman of the Care and Nurture Committee.
Survivors include a son, John E. Entrekin of Shalimar, Fla.; two daughters, Martha Lee Cihal of Warner Robins, Ga., and Jackie Rose Forrester of the home; a brother, Bobby Branyon of Gainesville, Ga.; three sisters, Wanda Jane King and Maye Haddon, both of Abbeville and Faye Hannah of Hodges; five grandchildren.
Services are 2 p.m. Sunday at Shiloh United Methodist Church, conducted by the Revs. Todd David, Stephen Toth and Clark Cundiff. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Visitation is from 6:30-8:30 tonight at The McDougald Funeral Home, Anderson.
The family is at the home.

J.T. Horne
CROSS HILL — J.T. Horne, 82, of 1048 S. Main St., husband of Lois Bolton Horne, died Thursday, May 16, 2002, at his home.
Born in Union, he was a son of the late Jesse J. and Grace Horne. He retired from the textile business and Wilson Brothers Sand Co. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Cross Hill.
Survivors include his wife of the home; three sons, Rex Burgess of Woodstock, Ga., Robbie Burgess of Cross Anchor and James Burgess of Cross Hill; three daughters, Rita Boggero of Laurens, Regina Burgess and LaJuan Gilmer, both of Cross Hill; two sisters, Loree Horne and Alun Gregory, both of Jonesville; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services are 4 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church of Cross Hill, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is from 2-4 Sunday at the church.

Alice ‘Bett’ Lanier
GREENWOOD — Alice Mae “Bett” Moore Lanier, 56, of 313 Lanham St., widow of John Lanier, died Wednesday, May 15, 2002, at her home.
Born in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of the late Rebecca Moore. She was a member of Bethlehem Church of God.
Survivors include three sons, Melvin Moore and Jeffery Moore, both of Greenwood and Gregory Moore of Columbia; a sister, Mary Helen Moore of Greenwood; and six grandchildren.
The family is at the home.
Services will be announced by Percival-Tompkins Funeral Home.

Markevious O. Light
CROSS HILL — Graveside services for Markevious Omar Light, of 242 Longview Road, are 3:30 Sunday in Evening Star Memorial Gardens, conducted by Pastor John Henry Parks.
Visitation is this evening at the home.

Willie C. Powell
JOHNSTON — Willie Crout Powell, 103, formerly of Rt. 2 Rocky Creek Rd., died Friday, May 17, 2002, at Saluda Nursing Center.
Born in Saluda County and a daughter of the late Jefferson and Trannie Kinard Crout, she was the widow of Otis Eugene Powell. Mrs. Powell was a retired farmer and a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church.
Surviving are 5 grandchildren and grandchildren-in-law, Eugene and Mary Lou Powell, Jr. of Columbia, Sylvia Whisenant of Johnston, William and Linda Rushton of Johnston, Brenda and Charles Eidson of Martinez, GA and Keith and Angela Rushton of Saluda, 9 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Powell was preceded in death by one son, Eugene Powell, Sr. and a daughter, Trannie P. Rushton.
Funeral services will be 3:00 PM Sunday, May 19, 2002, at Bethlehem United Methodist Church with Rev. Wayne Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 ‘til 8 PM Saturday evening at Ramey Funeral Home.
