GREENWOOD — James Kenneth Pemberton, 96, formerly of 111 Lanett St., widower of Ann Fahy Pemberton, died Saturday, May 25, 2002, at Magnolia Manor.
Born in Marion, Ind., he was a son of the late Carl and Josephine Johnston Pemberton. He retired from Yates Office Supply.
Survivors include four daughters, Frances Wheeler of Michigan, Patricia Cavanaugh of California, Mary Jo Spadafora of Arizona and Elizabeth Thompson of Michigan; a friend and caretaker, Ms. Dean Cox of Greenwood; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Burial will be private.
Blyth Funeral Home is in charge.

Herman Boone
NINETY SIX — Robert Herman Boone, 84, of 115 Lowell St., husband of Ruby Weaghington Boone, died Monday, May 27, 2002, at his home.
Visitation is from 7-9 Wednesday at Blyth Funeral Home.
The family is at the home.
Services will be announced by Blyth Funeral Home, Greenwood.

Franklin D.R. Butler
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Franklin D.R. Butler, 41, died Thursday, May 23, 2002.
Born in Edgefield County, S.C., he was a son of Willie David “W.D.” Butler Sr. and Martha Higgins Butler. He was a member of Pleasant Lane Baptist Church, Edgefield, a 1979 graduate of Strom Thurmond High School, an Army veteran and a truck driver with the U.S. Postal Service.
Survivors include his parents of Edgefield; a son, Dwayne Butler of Crownpoint, N.M.; a daughter, Deborah Butler of Crownpoint; five brothers, Bernard Butler, Willie David Butler Jr., Carl Butler and Jeffery Butler, all of Edgefield and Glenn Butler of Milford, Va.; six sisters, Juanita Drummings, Laverne Butler, Deborah Butler, Maurice Butler and Wanda Glanton, all of Edgefield and Helen Jefferson of Trenton.
Services are 1 p.m. Thursday at Pleasant Lane Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Johnny Peterson, assisted by the Revs. Sloan Gordon, Ernest Gordon, Melvin Gordon and Oliver Baylor. The body will be placed in the church at noon. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers are Richard Fuller, Marvin Fuller, Leon Gordon, Donald Gordon and Willie J. Drummings.
Flower bearers are Jackie Smith, Doris Gordon and friends of the family.
The family is at the home of his mother, 226 Macedonia St., Edgefield.
Butler & Sons Funeral Home, Saluda, S.C., is in charge.

Mozelle Dennis
NINETY SIX — Mozelle Nichols Dennis, 99, of 2823 Ninety Six Highway, widow of Leon C. Dennis, died Monday, May 27, 2002, at Self Regional Medical Center, Greenwood.
Visitation is from 6-8 tonight at Blyth Funeral Home.
The family is at the home of a sister, Miriam Burton, 2817 Ninety Six Highway.
Services will be announced by Blyth Funeral Home, Greenwood.

Vannie H. Hewell
ANDERSON — Vannie Harrison Hewell, 92, formerly of Iva, widow of R.E. Hewell, died Sunday, May 26, 2002, at the Hospice House.
Born in Hall County, Ga., she was a daughter of the late John Henry and Lithonia Webb Scott Harrison. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include a son, Hayward Hewell of Starr; three daughters, Nellie Ruth Wiles and Betty Burdette, both of Iva, and Linda Wilson of Greenwood; 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at McDougald Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Jim Creason, assisted by Skipper Hewell and Michael Bruce. Burial is in New Silverbrook Cemetery.
Visitation is from 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.
The family is at the home of a daughter, Nellie Ruth Wiles, 221 McAdams Road, Iva.

Edward H. McGill Sr.
CANDLER, N.C. — Edward H. McGill Sr., 66, of 24 Hilltop Drive, husband of Thelma Jane Hall McGill, died Sunday, May 26, 2002, at an Asheville hospital.
Born in Spartanburg, S.C., he was a son of the late William W. and Margaret Kearse McGill. He grew up at Connie Maxwell Children’s Home, Greenwood, and attended Greenwood High School. A Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War, he retired from BASF after 32 years as a graphic artist.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Celia Roseanna McGill of Durham and Mary Kathleen McGill of Swannanoa; a son, Edward Hoyt McGill Jr. of Fairview; a granddaughter and a brother, Robert McGill of Candler.
Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at Groce Funeral Home, Patton Avenue, Asheville, conducted by the Rev. Dennis Thurman and the Rev. Gene Hall. Burial is in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
Visitation is from 7-9 Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Connie Maxwell Children’s Home, P.O. Box 1178, Greenwood, S.C. 29646.

Benjamin O’Dell
WARE SHOALS — Joseph Benjamin O’Dell, 82, of 308 Martin Road, husband of Ethel Ridgeway O’Dell, died Sunday, May 26, 2002, at his home.
Born in Laurens County, he was a son of the late Tillman and Rosa Martin O’Dell. He was a retired tax appraiser for Laurens County and a member of Mount Gallagher Baptist Church, DAV, American Legion, POW Organization and the VFW. A World War II Army veteran, he was taken as a prisoner of war at the Battle of the Bulge.
Survivors include his wife of the home; three sons, James “Jimmy” O’Dell of Wetumpka, Ala., Joseph R. “Randy” O’Dell of Satellite Beach, Fla., and Kelvin B. O’Dell of Prattville, Ala.; a daughter, Shirley O. Cueman of Davidson, N.C.; seven grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services are 3 p.m. today at Mount Gallagher Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Marcus Bishop, the Rev. T.T. Faucette and the Rev. Felton Cox. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers are Roger Martin, Billy Traynham, Tommy O’Dell, Bob Jennings, Jim Manley, Bob Ridgeway, Bill Ridgeway and Emil Finley.
Honorary escorts are Billy Fortner, Grady Fuller, Tom Marcos, Ted Brissey, Ken Andrew, Bo Manley, Steve Kerkitt, Jerry Robinson, Johnny Simpson, John Medlin, Mike Pate, Bonnie McElroy, Connie Gambrell, Nancy Lemmons, Brenda Hicks, Edna Fortner, Rita Dukes, Dot Marcos and Frances O’Dell.
Visitation is from 2-3 today at the church.

Eugene Smith
ABBEVILLE — Eugene Wilkes Smith, 75, of 603 Chestnut St., widower of June Gray Smith, died Sunday, May 26, 2002, at Self Regional Medical Center in Greenwood.
Born in Abbeville County, he was a son of the late William Joel Smith Sr. and Kathline Elizabeth Wilkes Smith. He graduated from Abbeville High School and attended Presbyterian College. An Army veteran, he was a retired insurance salesman with Colonial Life and a member of Abbeville Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include a brother, William Joel Smith Jr. of North Augusta and a sister, Emma Jean Stranch of Kingsport, Tenn.
Graveside services are 11 a.m. Thursday in Long Cane Cemetery, with visitation at the cemetery after the services.
The family is at the home of Charlotte Smith, 108 Florence St., Abbeville.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Humane Society in Greenwood.

Beauty D. Williams
NINETY SIX — Beauty Dorothy Williams, 90, widow of Augusta Williams, died Monday, May 27, 2002 at Edgefield Nursing Home.
Born in Sparta, Ga., she was a daughter of the late Bessie Dixon. She was a former waitress in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and a member of Springfield Baptist Church, Edgefield.
Survivors include five daughters, Dorothy Butts of Brooklyn, N.Y., Susan Davis and Carolyn Williams, both of Ninety Six, Ruth Parker of Detroit and Laverne Williams of Greenwood; two sisters, Willie Kate Corker of Fort Lauderdale and May Dixon of Sparta; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family is at 331 Little Mountain Road, Ninety Six.
Services will be announced by Robinson & Son Mortuary Inc., Greenwood.

Lugenia H. Anderson
PARKSVILLE — Lugenia Hill Anderson, widow of Robert Anderson, died Monday, May 27, 2002, at Self Regional Medical Center in Greenwood.
Born in McCormick County, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Hettie Chamberlain Hill. She was a member of Cedar Spring Baptist Church, a former member of the Senior Gospel Chorus and a member of Cedar Spring Burial Aide Society and Washington Burial Aide Society.
Survivors include two sons, Robert Lee Anderson of Plum Branch and Dennis Anderson of the home; three daughters, Dorothy Jean Moore and Mildred Sullivan, both of Atlanta and Lucille Key of McCormick; two sisters, Fannie Mae Talbert of McCormick and Gladys Lewis of Masury, Ohio; 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
The family is at the home on Old Augusta Road.
Services will be announced by Walker Funeral Home, McCormick.

William ‘Edd’ Bannister
NEWBERRY — William Edgar “Edd” Bannister, of 309 Player St., died Saturday, May 25, 2002 at Providence Hospital.
Born in Newberry, he was a son of Frances O’Dell Bannister and the late W.M. “Mid” Bannister. He was a travel consultant with the Carolina Motor Club (AAA).
Survivors include his mother of Newberry; a sister, Peggy Bannister Butler of Greenwood; and two brothers, Ronald F. “Ronny” Bannister and Jesse D. “Buck” Bannister, both of Newberry.
Services are at 3 Thursday at Whitaker Funeral Home. Burial is in Newberry Memorial Gardens.
Visitation is from 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.
The family is at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ronny Bannister, 302 Halfacre Road, Newberry.

Herman Boone
NINETY SIX - Robert Herman Boone, 84, resident of 115 Lowell Street, husband of Ruby Weaghington Boone, died May 27, 2002 at his home.
Born in Greenwood County, May 9, 1918, he was a son of the late William Marion and Mary Lucretia Ouzts Boone. He was a graduate of Pittsburg School in Greenwood County and was retired from Greenwood Mills - Sloan Plant.
A member of Temple Baptist Church and the Men's Bible Class of the Church, he was also a member of the Greenwood Mills Quarter Century Club.
Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are a daughter, Janet B. McNeill of Morrisville, NC; a son, Clarence H. Boone of Buffalo, NY; two brothers, Harold Boone of Greenwood and Hoyt Boone of Callison; seven grandchildren, Christopher McNeill, Andrea McNeill, Tara McNeill, Shaun Boone, Brandon Boone, Ryan Boone and Dylan Boone.
Funeral services will be conducted 3PM Thursday at Temple Baptist Church with Rev. Charles Owens and Rev. Thomas Cartledge officiating.
Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Active pallbearers will be Bruce Smith, Wayne Boone, Marion Boone, Jerry Boone, Terry Boone, Aubrey Boone, Charles Freeland, Kenneth Boone, Charles Johnson and Don Perry.
Honorary escort will be members of the Men's Bible Class of Temple Baptist Church along with Dr. James H. Smith, Eddie Shealy, Jimmy Boswell, Donnie McDowell, Jimmy Gable, Loyd Walker, Jim Voiselle, Carlisle Grimsley, C.A. Smith, Homer Randall and Howard Hipp.
The body is at Blyth Funeral Home and will be placed in the church at 2PM Thursday.
The family is at the home on Lowell Street and will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 9 Wednesday evening.

Rick Corley
SALUDA, N.C. — Richard Kendrick “Rick” Corley, 53, husband of Rhonda Murff Corley, died Sunday, May 26, 2002, in Asheville.
Born in Greenwood, S.C., he was a son of Giles and Annie Wells Corley Daniel and the late Albert Julian Corley. He graduated from Greenwood High School, received a Bachelor of Arts degree from The Citadel and completed advanced studies at the University of South Carolina and the FBI National Academy. Serving as Chief of Police in Saluda, N.C., from December 1993 until his death, he retired from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) after 27 years as a special agent.
Survivors include his wife of the home; his parents of Greenwood; a daughter, Miller Anne Corley; a brother, William E. “Bill” Daniel of Clemson.
Memorial services were 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration in Saluda.
A private family burial is today at Bethlehem Cemetery in Coronaca, S.C., with Dr. James Langford officiating.
Visitation is from 3-5 today at the home of Giles and Annie Daniel, 104 Northwoods Road, Greenwood.
Memorials may be made to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Officers Association (SCLEOA) Scholarship Fund, 7339 Broad River Road, Irmo, S.C. 29063 or the Saluda Public Library, P.O. Box 486, Saluda, N.C. 28773.
