Fred R. Bailey Sr.
CALHOUN FALLS — Fred Richard Bailey Sr., 65, of 5260 Highway 72 W., died Wednesday, May 29, 2002, at his home.
A son of the late Fred Jefferson Bailey and Mattie Mae Bowers Bailey, he retired from J.P. Stevens Textile Co. after 48 years of service. He was a cloth room supervisor at the Great Falls and Rockingham mills and a manufacturing services manager at the Calhoun Falls Mill.
Survivors include a daughter, Melissa Bailey of Calhoun Falls; three sons, Fred Bailey Jr. of South Hill, Va., Robbie Bailey of Lancaster and Steve Bailey of Mooresville, N.C.; a brother, James Bailey of Lancaster; four sisters, Bonnie Jones of Liberty Hill, Dell Renfrow and Rosa Lee Wilson, both of Columbia, Ada Smith of Lancaster; seven grandchildren and a great-grandson.
Graveside services are 2 p.m. Saturday in Lancaster Memorial Park, Lancaster, conducted by the Rev. Johnny Waller.
Visitation is from 6-8 tonight at Calhoun Falls Funeral Home and from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at Hartley Funeral Home in Lancaster. Calhoun Falls Funeral Home is in charge.

Peggy Boyd
GREENWOOD — Peggy Joyce Banes Boyd, 55, of 417 Stevens St., wife of Thomas M. Boyd, died Thursday, May 30, 2002.
Born in Athens, Ga., she was a daughter of Blanche Pauline Esco Banes and the late Willie Raymond Banes. She was a graduate of Greenwood High School and Piedmont Technical College and a member of West Side Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband and mother, both of Greenwood; two daughters, Kimberly Trotter of Greenwood and Robin Corley of Lexington; a son, Phillip Trotter of Greenwood; and two grandchildren.
Services are 3 p.m. Saturday at Blyth Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Hal Lane. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are cousins and nephews.
Visitation is from 5-7 tonight at the funeral home.
The family is at the home.

Robert Lee Coleman
SALUDA — Robert Lee Coleman, 74, of 148 Hillside Lane, husband of Elease Pope Coleman, died Tuesday, May 28, 2002, at Self Regional Medical Center in Greenwood.
Born in Saluda County, he was a son of the late Mary Jane Coleman. He was a member of Mount Enon Baptist Church and a retired employee of Greenwood Mills.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Robert L. Coleman of Irmo and Kenneth L. Coleman of Newberry; six daughters, Dorothy C. Miller, Sadie L. Coleman and Wilhemena Coleman, all of Spartanburg, Mary F. Coleman, Sharon C. Holloway and La’Kisha Coleman, all of Saluda; two brothers, Henry Coleman of Saluda and John Coleman of Clinton, N.C.; a sister, Carrie Farrow of Saluda; 11 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Services are 2 p.m. Saturday at Mount Enon Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Johnny C. Gantt. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers are nephews.
Flower bearers are nieces and great-nieces.
The family is at the home.

Willie Mae Crawford
WATERLOO — Willie Mae Davenport Crawford, 73, widow of Charles Wayne Crawford, died Wednesday, May 29, 2002, at National Health Care of Clinton.
Born in Laurens County, she was a daughter of the late Harold and May Pryor Davenport.
Survivors include six sons, Mitchell Crawford of Ware Shoals, Stephen Wayne Crawford, Mark Crawford Sr., Michael Crawford, Tommy Crawford and Carol Crawford, all of Waterloo; a daughter, Bonnie Neal of Waterloo; 17 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services are 2 p.m. Saturday at Sacred Acres, conducted by the Rev. Grady Lothridge.
Visitation is from 6-8 tonight at Parker-White Funeral Home, Ware Shoals.
The family is at 41 Sunday Drive, Waterloo.

Cy Quattlebaum
GREENWOOD - Cyrus J. "Cy" Quattlebaum, Sr., 66, of 210 Riley Road, husband of Ann Cato Quattlebaum, died Wednesday, May 29, 2002 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Camden, he was a son of Pauline Shumpert Quattlebaum and the late I. J. Quattlebaum. He was the retired owner of Quattlebaum Meats and was a member of Rehoboth United Methodist Church.
Surviving is his wife of the home and his mother of Prosperity; two sons and daughters-in-law, Cyrus J. "Rus" and Yvonne Quattlebaum, Jr. and Todd E. and Toni Quattlebaum, all of Greenwood; three brothers, Robert Quattlebaum of West Columbia, Walter Quattlebaum of Prosperity and Jack Quattlebaum of Lexington; two granddaughters, Suzanne Blake Quattlebaum and Samantha Jo Quattlebaum, both of Greenwood and a special friend, Russell Brewer of Greenwood.
Services will be at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday at the Harley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Joseph L. Curtis officiating. Burial will be in Oakbrook Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be nephews Jeff Covar, Brad Covar, Tony Cato, Daniel Quattlebaum, Michael Quattlebaum, Jeff Quattlebaum and Hamp Spradley.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.
The family is at the home.

Lotus Ann Walker
GREENWOOD — Lotus Ann Gyunwald Walker, 42, of 620 Dendy Bridge Road, wife of Phillip Walker, died Wednesday, May 29, 2002, at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Philadelphia, she attended Philadelphia public schools and studied engineering in Pennsylvania . She was of the Baptist faith. She was a landscaper at Holy Cross Cemetery, Yeadon, Pa.
Survivors include her husband of the home.
Services are 3 p.m. Sunday at Second Mount Moriah Baptist Church, conducted by Pastor Michael Butler, assisted by the Rev. Norris Turner. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers and flower bearers are friends of the family.
Visitation is from 7-8 Saturday at the home of her mother-in-law, Lola Stokes, 3705 McCormick Highway.

Milton C. Folk
NEWBERRY — Milton C. Folk, 87, of National Healthcare of Greenwood, died Friday, May 31, 2002. Born in Newberry County, he was a son of the late Eugene C. and Ione Caldwell Folk. He was a retired farmer and a member of Beth-Eden Lutheran Church.
Survivors include a brother, J. Edward Folk of Newberry.
Graveside services are 3 p.m. Monday in Rosemont Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Tommy Tucker.

Charles Willie Hall
FLINT, Mich. — Charles Willie Hall, 64, died Friday, May 24, 2002, at Hurley Medical Center. Born in Greenwood, S.C., he was a son of the late Ossie and Sadie Hall. He lived in Flint since 1965 and retired from General Motors after 30 years of service.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Charles Randy of Greenwood, Tejuane Carroll and Quincy Hall, both of Flint; four daughters, Brenda Spencer, Kimberly Montgomery, Lachone Carroll and Matissa Montgomery, all of Flint; a sister, Fay Roper; and 29 grandchildren.
Services were Friday at Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. Burial was in Lovedale Memorial Cemetery.

Rev. Ancel Hamilton, Sr.
GREENWOOD - Reverend Ancel Adams Hamilton, Sr., 83, resident of 118 Orchard Park Drive, husband of Mozelle Smalley Hamilton, died May 31, 2002 at Wesley Commons.
Born in Ninety Six, April 17, 1919, he was a son of the late Benny Rambo and Leonora Adams Hamilton. He was a retired Church of God Minister and served as Pastor at the Salem, SC, Batesburg and Aiken Airport Churches. Rev. Hamilton was also retired from Greenwood Mills - Harris Plant.
He was a member of Woodlawn Church of God.
Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are a daughter, Elaine Hamilton of West Point, GA; a son and daughter-in-law, Ancel A. Jr. and Cheryl Hamilton of Blythewood, SC; a sister, Mrs. Gilbert (Julia) McClain of Greenwood.
Funeral services will be conducted 3PM Sunday from the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Terry Sherfield and Rev. Jason Garner officiating.
Burial will be in Oakbrook Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Eugene Ouzts, Jimmy Thompson, Alan Cromer, Danny Fallaw, Ronnie Bagwell, Roger Laughlin and David Cooper.
Honorary escort will be Men of Woodlawn Church of God along with Elbert Bowers, William C. "Red" Myers and Roy Yelton.
The family is at the home on Orchard Park Drive and will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 Saturday evening.

John S. Jernigan
GREENWOOD — John Silas Jernigan, 49, of 1020 Phoenix St., died Thursday, May 30, 2002, in Augusta, Ga.
Born in Greenwood, he was a son of Silas and Helen Jane Smith Jernigan. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his parents of Greenwood; a son, Jimmy Jernigan of Greenwood; five sisters, Jane Dorn of Troy, Joann Owens and Kathy Young, both of Greenwood, Debra Crawford and Amy Lecroy, both of Waterloo; three brothers, David Smith of Rayle, Ga., Yancy Jernigan of Greenwood and Paul Jernigan of Cross Hill.
Private services will be at a later date.
The family is at the home of his parents, 106 Sandshore Drive.

James W. "Jimmy" Kesler
SILVERSTREET - James W. "Jimmy" Kesler, 67, of 258 Trinity Church Road, Silverstreet, widower of Lynda Waldrop Kesler, died Friday, May 31, 2002 at his residence.
Mr. Kesler was born in the Eutopia Section of Newberry County, a son of the late H. Adam and Dessie Kilgore Kesler. He was a U.S. Army veteran, a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and a former trustee. He was part owner of Trinity Farms.
Mr. Kesler was a member of the Amity Masonic Lodge #87, Newberry York Rite Bodies, Hejaz Shrine Temple and the Newberry County Shrine Club. He was Chief of the Silverstreet Fire Department, a member of the Newberry Moose Lodge, a member of the Newberry and Saluda County Cattlemen Association, a member of the American Jersey Cattlemen Association, a member of the SC Jersey Cattle Club, and the Silverstreet Young Farmer's Association. In 1993, he was recognized by the SC Jersey Cattlemen Association for the management of one of the top 10 herds in the nation.
Mr. Kesler is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, J. Craig and Frieda S. Kesler of Newberry; a brother-in-law and a sister-in-law, Dave C. and Debbie Waldrop of Newberry; a sister, Ann K. Senn of Newberry; five brothers, John Kesler, Jack Kesler, Ned Kesler, and Fred Kesler, all of Newberry and Joe Kesler of Prosperity; two grandchildren, J. Barry Kesler and Melynda Kesler both of Newberry; two step-grandchildren, Danielle Stuck and Haley Stuck both of Newberry; and his Godchild, Whitney Waldrop of Newberry. He was predeceased by a sister, Millie K. Livingston and a brother, Jerry Kesler.
Funeral services for James W. "Jimmy" Kesler will be conducted at 3:00 P.M. Sunday at Trinity United Methodist Church by the Rev. David Templeton and the Rev. Robert McAuley. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 Saturday at the Whitaker Funeral Home and the family will be at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Craig Kesler, 1970 Trinity Church Road, Newberry.
Memorials may be made to the Silverstreet Fire Department, 3254 Island Ford Road, Silverstreet, SC 29145 or to Trinity United Methodist Church Building Fund, 1167 Trinity Church Road, Newberry, SC 29108.

LAURENS — Jimmie Earl “Pop” Merck, 66, husband of Barbara Brown Merck, of 815 Ranch Road, died Thursday, May 30, 2002, at his home.
Born in Pickens County, he was a son of the late Louie E. and Vera Butler Merck. He was a retired employee of Torrington and a former employee of Anderson Hardwood Floors. An Army veteran, he served as a military policeman during the Korean conflict. He was a Mason, a member of the Palmetto Lodge, a Shriner and a welding instructor at Greenville Technical College.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two daughters, Anne Gillespie of Anderson and Norma Jean Goodman of Laurens; two sons, Jimmy O. Merck of Cumming, Ga., and Tommy Merck of Laurens; a brother, Johnny R. Merck of Prosperity; two sisters, Nellie Taylor and Pat Penland, both of Laurens; 12 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Graveside services are 2 p.m. Sunday in Westview Memorial Park, conducted by the Rev. Bobby Humphries.
Visitation is from 7-8:30 tonight at Kennedy Mortuary.
The family is at the home.

Craig Brooks Jr.
GREENWOOD — Jerry Craig Brooks Jr., 34, of McKee Road, died Saturday, June 1, 2002, in Laurens County from injuries received in an automobile accident.
Born in Greenwood, he was a son of Marie Reese Robinson and Jerry Craig Brooks Sr. He served in the Navy and was a member of Five Lakes Fishing Club and Parkland Golf Club. He was employed with John Alewine Auto Care.
Survivors include his mother of Greenwood; his father of Hodges; three sons, Jerry Craig Brooks III, Trevor Brooks and Aaron Brooks, all of Greenwood; stepfather, Wayne Robinson of Greenwood; stepmother, Susan Brooks of Hodges; a sister, Mitzie Moore of Ninety Six; two brothers, Mike Brooks of Hodges and Steve Rodgers of Greenwood; maternal grandparents, Randall and Ann Reese of Greenwood and paternal grandfather, Horace Brooks of Calhoun Falls.
Services are at 2 Monday at Blyth Funeral Home. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at Blyth Funeral Home.
The family is at the home of his mother and stepfather, 123 Sparrow Road.
