HONEA PATH — Ethel Gambrell Vaughn, 67, of 673 Highway 178 N., wife of Marvin Thomas Vaughn, died Wednesday, June 19, 2002, at her home.
Born in Honea Path, she was a daughter of the late William Robert and Effie Lollis Gambrell. She retired from Service America at the Torrington Co. and was a member of Donalds Church of God.
Survivors include her husband of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Steve (Eleanor) Knox of Belton and Mrs. Britt (Tammie) Reames of Saluda; three brothers, A.C. Gambrell and Jack Gambrell, both of Honea Path and Dewy Gambrell of Belton; four sisters, Clara Vaughn of Honea Path, Mary Lou Hendricks of Princeton, Lola May Arnold of Liberty and Helen Sparks of Belton; and three grandsons.
Services are 3 p.m. Saturday at Donalds Church of God, conducted by the Revs. Bruce Chambers, Hubert Orvin and T.T. Madden. The body will be placed in the church at 2. Burial is in the Garden of Memories.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at Pruitt Funeral Home.
The family is at the home.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, S.C. 29621.

Ilesha M. Brooks
GREENWOOD — Ilesha Myangel Brooks, 16 months, of 200 Holman St., Apt. 8-D, died Friday, June 21, 2002, at her home.
Born in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of Calvin Tolbert and Ethel La’rie Brooks.
Survivors include her father of Greenwood; her mother of the home; two brothers, Eric Brooks and Patrick Brooks, both of Greenwood; three sisters, Ebony Brooks and Demeacia Lockhart, both of Greenwood and Trakesha Williams of the home; maternal grandmother and step-grandfather, Eula Mae and Vernon Griffin of Promised Land; maternal grandfather, Joel Brooks Sr. of Greenwood; maternal great-grandmother, Pauline McCauley of Promised Land; and paternal grandmother, Carrie Tolbert of Greenwood.
The family is at the home.
Services will be announced by Robinson & Son Mortuary Inc.

GREENWOOD — Graveside services for Ilesha Myangel Brooks will be at 2:30 Sunday at Evening Star Memorial Gardens, conducted by Rev. Cromer, assisted by Rev. George Hill.
The family is at the home, 200 Holman St., Apt. 8-D.
Robinson & Son Mortuary Inc. is in charge.

Jeff Hyde
GREENWOOD — Bryan Jeffery “Jeff” Hyde, 41, son of David E. and Joyce Parish Hyde died June 21, 2002 at the home of his parents, 604 Gatewood Drive. He was also a resident of the Burton Group Home, 308 Jenkins Springs Road.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio, March 10, 1961, he attended Special Needs Programs in Grosse Point, Michigan, Plymouth Training School, Plymouth, Michigan, Jordan Valley School, Salt Lake City, Utah and Whitten Center, Clinton, South Carolina. Since 1995 he has been a client at Emerald Center in Greenwood.
Surviving in addition to his parents of Greenwood are a brother, David A. Hyde of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan and one niece, Kathryn Hyde, three nephews, Matthew Hyde, Cole Hyde and Jordan Hyde.
Funeral services will be conducted 4 PM Monday at the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. John Livingston and Rev. George Hill officiating.
Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery, Medina, Ohio at a later date.
The family requests that flowers be omitted and memorials be made to Emerald Center Foundation, Post Office Box 3304, Greenwood, SC 29648 or to Hospice of the Piedmont, 408 W. Alexander Ave., Greenwood, SC 29646 or to the charity of one’s choice.

Alvine Pugh Rauch
SALUDA — Alvine Pugh Rauch, 87, of 106 Edward Ave., died Friday, June 21, 2002, at her home.
The family is at the home.
Services will be announced by Butler & Sons Funeral Home.

Bobby Roberts, former Clemson basketball coach
AIKEN — Christopher Columbus Roberts Jr., 74, of 853 Oleander Dr., Aiken, SC, died June 22, at his home.
Born in Laurens, SC December 19, 1927, Coach Roberts made a name for himself as a member of the Welcome high School basketball squad. After high school he spent 1945-1948 in the US Navy. After the Navy Coach Roberts began his career in basketball in earnest by playing first at Mars Hill and then at Furman University where he lettered in both basketball and baseball graduating with a degree in history and physical education. He began his coaching career at Palmetto High School where he accumulated an enviable record of 89 wins and 20 loses and was inducted into the Palmetto High School Hall of Fame in 1997. In 1958 Coach Roberts took an assistants position at Clemson University working with Press Maravich. He was the freshman coach from 1958 to 1962. In 1962 he became the head coach of the Clemson Tigers until 1970. Some of his accomplishments included,
*Beating all 4 North Carolina within 8 days, including N.C. and Duke in the North South Double Header in Charlotte, North Carolina Was ranked 3rd and Duke ranked 14th in the UPI poll *Won seven consecutive ACC games in February. Still a Clemson record for consecutive conference victories.
*Poinsetta Classic Champions in Greenville, SC, defeating LSU and Furman.
After leaving Clemson, Coach Roberts worked with Converse, Inc. until his retirement. He retired to Aiken, SC where he spent many hours playing golf at Palmetto Golf Club.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, June 25, at Shellhouse Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Guy Nelson Roberts officiating. Interment will be private.
Survivors include his loving wife, Barbara Ann Black Roberts and beloved daughter, Lessie Adaline Moser and son, Mike Roberts, Aiken. Other survivors include four grandchildren, Katie Moser, James Moser, Sally Moser, Addie Roberts and a sister, Mildred Pruitt, Belton, SC. Coach Roberts was preceded in death by a grandson, Sam Roberts, parents, Christopher Columbus and Lessie A. Nelson Roberts, sister, Kathleen Payne and a brother, Jimmy Roberts. He was a member of Palmetto Golf Club and Aiken Co. School Advisory Board.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to American Cancer Society, P.O. Box K, Aiken, SC 29802. The family will receive friends 6-8 PM Monday at Shellhouse Funeral Home, Inc., 924 Hayne Ave. Aiken.

Gladys Dansby
OXEN HILL, Md. — Gladys Dansby, 65, of 1012 Marcy Ave., Apt. T-3, wife of Cris “Wodie” Dansby, died Wednesday, June 19, 2002, at Southern Maryland Hospital in Clinton.
Born in Edgefield, S.C., she was a daughter of the late Raymond and Earlene Roper Peterson Parks.
Survivors include her husband of the home, three daughters and two sons.
Services are noon Tuesday.
The family is at the home of a sister-in-law, Helen Yeldell, 105 Morgan Ave., Greenwood, S.C.

Buddy Davis
GREENWOOD — Milton Lewis “Buddy” Davis, 79, of 236 Mulberry St., widower of Virginia Murphy Davis, died Friday, June 21, 2002, at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Newberry County, he was a son of the late Clarence B. and Alma Butler Davis. He retired from Greenwood Mills as supervisor of the Service Department and was a Navy World War II veteran.
A member of Mathews Lodge No. 358 A.F.M. and a Hejaz Shriner, he was a member of Callie Self Memorial Baptist Church and the Men’s Sunday School Class.
Surviving are two sons, Milton L. Davis Jr. of Laurens and David “Bennie” Davis of Greenwood; two daughters, Barbara Joyce Jones and Mary Anna Barton, both of Greenwood; a sister, Margaret Hollingsworth of Greenwood; 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Services are 2 p.m. Sunday at the Harley Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Leland S. Scott. Entombment is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
Pallbearers are grandsons.
Honorary escorts are Gene Ouzts, Marshall Culbertson, Jack Lyles, Creg Culbertson, George Powell and Averitt Saylors.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.
The family is at the home.

Audy L. Dobbins Sr
GAFFNEY — Audy Leroy Dobbins Sr., 70, of 418 E. Montgomery St., husband of Jo Gosnell Dobbins, died Thursday, June 20, 2002 at his home.
Born in Gaffney, he was a son of the late Audy Logan Dobbins and Lenora Pearson Dobbins Anthony. He was a retired textile employee and a member of Park Hills Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of the home; a son, Audy Leroy “Buz” Dobbins Jr. of Gaffney; a daughter, Nancy Dobbins Price of Gaffney; three sisters, Emma Jean Reynolds and Edna McAbee, both of Gaffney and Betty Porter of Greenwood; a brother, J.D. Dobbins of Greenwood; two grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Services are 2 p.m. Sunday at Park Hills Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. James Holder. Burial is in Oakland Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers are John Hancock Men’s Sunday School Class members.
Visitation is from 1-2 Sunday at the church.
The family is at the home.

Evelyn S. Ledford
WATERLOO — Evelyn Snyder Ledford, 75, of 132 Coursey Drive, wife of Walker Ledford, died Friday, June 21, 2002, at McCormick Health Care.
Born in Greenwood, she was a daughter of the late Thomas C. and Willie Mae Cook Snyder. She was a member of Waterloo United Methodist Church and a charter member of Waterloo Volunteer Fire Department and Ladies Auxiliary.
Survivors include her husband of the home; a son, Leland W. Ledford of Anderson; a daughter, Jeannie L. Monroe-Pearson of Waterloo; a sister, Mildred Pruitt of Waterloo; three brothers, Fred Snyder Sr. of Myrtle Beach, Tommy C. Snyder of Waterloo and Ben Snyder of Ware Shoals; eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Services are 2 p.m. Sunday at Westside Baptist Church, Greenwood, conducted by the Revs. Bobby Davis and Hal Lane. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are Jason Snyder, Jeff Snyder, James Monroe, Carroll Strickland, Phillip Shelton and Dale Davenport.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at Parker-White Funeral Home Ware Shoals.
The family is at the home of Shawn and Dale Davenport, 6442 Highway 252, Donalds.

Harriett Sullivan
GREENWOOD — Harriett Sullivan, 47, of 119-A High St., wife of Leroy Wilson Jr., died Friday, June 21, 2002, at her home.
Born in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of the late Roosevelt and Mittie Holloway Sullivan. She was a 1970 Greenwood High School graduate and a former employee of The Pantry Corp. She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her husband of the home; two brothers, Leroy Sullivan of Promised Land and John Sullivan of Columbia; three sisters, Doris Sullivan of Greenwood, Rosa Adams and Prima Greer, both of Buffalo, N.Y.
The family is at the home, and at the home of Leroy Sullivan of 121 New Zion Road, Promised Land. Services will be announced by Robinson & Son Mortuary Inc.

Clara Lee McComb
McCORMICK — Clara Lee McComb, 91, of Route 1, Troy, died Sunday, June 23, 2002, at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Abbeville County, she was a daughter of the late James Link and Clara Pettigrew McComb.
She was a retired school teacher, having taught at Abbeville High School for many years. She was a member of Upper Long Cane Presbyterian Church. She had been a member of Bethia Presbyterian Church for nearly 80 years.
Survivors include a brother, John Thomas “Tom” McComb of McCormick and a sister, Lois Evatt of Central.
Services are at 3 Tuesday at Harris Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Lee P. Kennerly. Burial is in Bethia Cemetery.
Visitation is from 1-3 Tuesday at Harris Funeral Home.
The family is at the home of a brother, Tom McComb, 413 Calhoun St, McCormick.

Mildred Elizabeth Wardlaw
TROY — Mildred Elizabeth “Miss Betty” Wardlaw, 89, of Troy, died Sunday, June 23, 2002, at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of the late William Wideman and Annie Bradley Wardlaw. She graduated from the University of South Carolina. She was a Public Health Nurse for over 40 years and a World War II Army veteran. She was a member of the Troy Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, the Troy Fire Department and the Troy Community Center.
Survivors include a brother, Francis “Frank” M. Wardlaw Sr. of Troy and two sisters, Mrs. H. Ryan (Mary) Deason Sr. of Troy and Mrs. Nathan E. (Annie) Wright of Augusta, Ga.
Services are at 11 Wednesday at Troy A.R.P. Church, conducted by the Rev. Ray King. Burial is in Troy Cemetery.
Pallbearers are John Buie, Charles W. Wardlaw, Foster Wardlaw, Henry R. Deason Jr., Christopher William Cox and Francis Marion Wardlaw Jr.
Honorary pallbearers are Bradley Buie, Johnny Wardlaw, David Wardlaw, Rob Wardlaw, Billy Wardlaw, Kurt Lyons and Roosevelt Drennon.
Visitation is from 6-8 Tuesday at Strom Funeral Home, Highway 378, McCormick.
The family is at the home of Frank M. Wardlaw.
Memorials may be made to Troy A.R.P. Church, c/o LP Chamberlain or to Troy Cemetery Perpetual Fund, Box 23, Troy, S.C.
