ROWLETT, Texas — Robert “Bob” Jones, 56, husband of Judy Styron Jones, died Thursday, July 25, 2002, at Lake Pointe Hospital in Rowlett.
Born in Greenville, he was a son of the late Gordon Owens and Ethel Teene Lowery Jones. He was an accountant.
Survivors include his wife of the home; a son, Phillip Jones of Rowlett; a sister, Nancy Turner of Rockwall; and a brother, Ron Jones of Princeton.
Graveside services are 1 p.m. Thursday in Oakbrook Memorial Park, Greenwood, S.C.
Visitation is from 7-9 Wednesday at Harley Funeral Home.

Josephine Taggart
GREENWOOD - Josephine Rebecca "Jo" Taggart, 85, resident of Foothills Presbyterian Home in Easley and former resident of Wesley Commons in Greenwood, died July 28, 2002 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
Born in Greenwood County, February 21, 1917, she was a daughter of the late Maxwell C. and Josephine Moseley Taggart. She was a 1934 graduate of Greenwood High School and a 1938 gradate of Lander College. She also did graduate work at Tulane University and retired from the Veterans Administration, Greenville office.
Ms. Taggart was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Greenwood.
Surviving are a sister-in-law, Betty Taggart of Camden and a brother-in-law, Jim Edwards of Greenville; a nephew, Jim Edwards, Jr.; six nieces, Beth Campbell, Rebecca Stokes, Anne Clarke, JoAnn Jones, Margaret Clayton and Rebecca Edwards; twelve great nieces and nephews; six great-great-nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a sister, Martee Edwards and two brothers, Charles Taggart and Max Taggart.
Funeral services will be conducted 2PM Wednesday from the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. John Wall officiating.
Private burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.
The family requests that flowers be omitted and memorials be made to First Presbyterian Church, 108 E. Cambridge Avenue, Greenwood, SC 29646, Wesley Commons Retirement Home, 1110 Marshall Road, Greenwood, SC 29646 or to Foothills Presbyterian Home, 205 Bud Nalley Drive, Easley, SC 29642.

Edith Caldwell
ANTREVILLE — Edith Mae Caldwell, 79, of 4956 Highway 28 N., died Thursday, Aug. 1, 2002, at her home.
Born in Abbeville County, she was a daughter of the late John Henry and Lillie Gordon Caldwell. She was a retired employee of Abbeville Shirt Plant and a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a sister, Beatrice Caldwell of the home.
Services are 2 p.m. today at Shiloh United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Todd Davis. Burial is in the church cemetery. The family is at the home.
Memorials may be made to Shiloh United Methodist Church, 246 Sharon Church Road, Abbeville, SC 29620.

Frank Childress, Sr.
LAURENS — Franklin Fuller Childress, Sr., 68, of 201 Woodbluff Road, Laurens, died Thursday, August 1, 2002 at his home.
Born January 23, 1934 in Laurens, he was the son of the late Fowler P. Childress and Dorothy Fuller Childress. After graduating from Laurens High School and the University of South Carolina, he worked at the Greenwood Plant of Monsanto in Personnel and Administration, retiring after 26 years. He returned to the Greenwood Plant to work for Fluor Daniel/Standard for an additional 12 years. He was a lifelong member and former deacon of the First Presbyterian Church in Laurens.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia S. Childress; a son, Lt. Col. Franklin Fuller Childress, Jr. and his wife, Rachel Andrews Childress of Dumfries, Va.; a daughter, Mary Jane Gwinn and her husband John David Gwinn, Jr. of Easley, SC; a daughter, Dorothy Kaye Rhodenhiser and her husband Michael Rhodenhiser of High Point, NC; four grandchildren, Caroline Childress and Kelly, Jay, and Allison Gwinn; and a brother, James R. Childress of Anderson, SC. He was predeceased by a sister, Jane Childress and a brother, Fowler P. Childress.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Laurens on Sunday, August 4, 2002 at 5:00 PM conducted by the Rev. Marc Coker.
The family will receive friends at the church in Hunter Hall immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to Hospice of Laurens County, PO Box, 178, Clinton, SC 29325.

Jimmy Hendrix
James Dennis “Jimmy” Hendrix, 55, of 634 Cobb Road, died Thursday, Aug. 1, 2002, at his home.
Born in Greenwood, he was a son of the late Cornelius Jessie “C.J.” and Eunice Jennings Hendrix. He was a retired drywall contractor.
Survivors include a son, Jimmy Hollingsworth of Hodges; a daughter, Paula Hendrix Roach of Greenwood; a sister, Elaine Hendrix of Greenwood; a brother, Tony Hendrix of West Columbia; and four grandchildren.
Services are 3 p.m. Sunday at Oakbrook Memorial Park Chapel Mausoleum, conducted by the Rev. Jerry Catoe. Burial is in Oakbrook Memorial Park.
Visitation is from 2-3 Sunday at Oakbrook.
The family is at the home of his sister, Elaine Hendrix, 109 Church Ave.

Carrie Lee Lomax
ABBEVILLE — Carrie Lee Smith Lomax, 78, of 407 Thomas Lane, wife of Willie Lomax, died Thursday, Aug. 1, 2002, at Palmetto Regional Medical Healthcare in Columbia.
Born in Abbeville County, she was a daughter of the late John and Chaney Williams Smith. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Paul A.M.E. Church, where she was an usher, a steward and a Missionary Society member.
Survivors include her husband of the home; three sisters, Bessie S. Gray, Janie Chiles and Rebecca S. Davis, all of Abbeville; three brothers, Walter Smith, Willie Smith and Elijah Smith, all of Abbeville.
Services are 2 p.m. Monday at St. Paul A.M.E. Church, conducted by the Rev. James Rouse. Burial is in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. The family is at the home of a sister, Bessie Gray, 1030 Haigler St.

Charles E. Brewster
NINETY SIX — Sgt. 1st Class Charles Edgar Brewster, 51, of 500 S. Cambridge St., husband of Dorothy McFalls Brewster, died Monday, Aug. 12, 2002 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Abbeville, he was a son of Charles Edward and Mary Boles Brewster. He was employed by the S.C. Army National Guard, Hodges Armory and was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of Company D, 111th Signal Battalion, S.C. Army National Guard and Calvary Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of the home; his parents of Greenwood; a daughter, Kathy Williams of Greenwood; a son, Joseph “Joey” Brewster of Greenwood; a sister, Frances Gault of Laurens; a brother, Gary Brewster of Greenwood and three grandchildren.
Services are 2 p.m. Thursday at Harley Funeral Home, with the Rev. Tim Thompson officiating. Burial, with full military rites, is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers and honorary escorts are members of the S.C. Army National Guard.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.

Lois Cushing
GREENWOOD — Lois Adams Woods Cushing, 84, resident of 504 W. Kirksey Drive, widow of George O. Cushing, died August 13, 2002 at her home.
Born in Edgefield County, April 14, 1918, she was a daughter of the late James T. and Ida Casey Adams. She attended Johnston High School and was a graduate of Greenwood High School and the Greenwood College of Commerce. Mrs. Cushing was a former owner and operator of Merle Norman Cosmetics in Greenwood.
A member of Callie Self Memorial Baptist Church and the Ladies Bible Class of the church, she was also a member and past Worthy Matron of the Callie Self Chapter #199 of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She formerly served as a Cub Scout den mother and as a volunteer at Self Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Cushing was twice married, first to the late John R. Woods, Sr. and was predeceased by two daughters, Judith Ann Woods and Linda Nadine Woods and a brother, Thomas Ray Adams.
Surviving are a son, John R. Jr. and wife, Shelia Woods of Cumming, GA; two step-daughters, Cherry and husband, John Duve and Yvonne and husband Leo Betts, all of Grand Blanc, MI; a sister, Joyce and husband Jack Quattlebaum of Lexington; four brothers, James H. and wife Frances Adams, Lucian D. "Shorty" and wife, Blanche Adams, Charles L. "Doc" and wife Anita Adams, all of Greenwood and Ronald L. "Jim" and wife, Gloria Adams of Trenton; a sister-in-law, Ann Adams of Edgefield; a grandson, John Michael Woods of Cumming, GA; two step-grandsons, Allen and wife, Cherie Lowe of Detroit, MI and Leo Betts, Jr. of Grand Blanc, MI; a step-great-grandson, Thomas Lowe of Detroit, MI.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 AM Friday from the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Leland Scott and Rev. Reuel Westbrook officiating.
Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be nephews, Rudy Adams, Gene Adams, Wayne Adams, Michael Adams, Jeff Quattlebaum, Tommy Adams and Larry Cook.
Honorary escort will be members of the Ladies Bible Class and Deacons of Callie Self Memorial Baptist Church.
The family is at the home on W. Kirksey Drive and will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 9 Thursday evening.

Henry ‘Dan’ Dendy
Services for Henry “Dan” Dendy, of 102 Hilley Ave., are 1 p.m. Thursday at Smyrna A.M.E. Church, Waterloo, conducted by the Rev. Shirley Johnson. The body will be placed in the church at noon.
Burial is in Franklin Cemetery, Cross Hill.
Pallbearers are nephews, and flower bearers are nieces.

Dr. John H. Leith
EASLEY — Dr. John H. Leith, age 82, resident of Foothills Presbyterian Home, widower of Ann Caroline White Leith, died Monday, August 12, 2002, at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
Born September 10, 1919 in Hodges, South Carolina and reared in Due West from age 10, Dr. Leith was a son of the late William H. and Lucy Haddon Leith. He received a B.A. degree from Erskine College in 1940 and a B.D. degree from Columbia Theological Seminary in 1943. In 1946, he received an M.A. degree from Vanderbilt University and in 1949 a Ph.D. from Yale University. Honorary D.D. degrees were bestowed upon Dr. Leith by Erskine College and Davidson College as well as a D. Litt. by Presbyterian College.
In April 1943, Dr. Leith was licensed and ordained in the Presbyterian Church in the United States, South Carolina Presbytery. His pastorates included Spring Hill Pres-byterian Church in Mobile, Alabama, Second Presbyterian Church in Nashville, Ten-nessee and First Presbyterian Church in Auburn, Alabama where he became Pastor Emeritus. Following his pastorates, Dr. Leith was the Pemberton Professor of Theology, Union Theological Seminary in Virginia, from 1959 until 1990.
Dr. Leith was a member of New Hope Presbytery, Synod of the Mid-Atlantic, Omicron Delta Kappa, American Society of Church History, Society for Reformation Re-search and the Calvin Studies society, of which he served as President from 1978 until 1982. Dr. Leith was also a Kent Fellow, Society on Religion in Higher Education.
Dr. Leith authored fifteen books and many articles with over 400,000 books currently in print. His books are used in theological education world-wide.
Surviving are one son, Henry White Leith, and one daughter, Caroline Haddon Leith, both of Richmond, Virginia; one brother and sister-in-law, William Harold and Nancy Allen Leith, of Easley; one sister, Mary Evelyn Leith Ellis, of Decatur, Georgia; and three grandsons, John Leith Jackson, Henry Leith Jackson and Douglas Killough.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday at Greenville Presbyterian Church on Highway 178, three miles south of Donalds, South Carolina. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Escort of Honor will be any former students of Dr. Leith.
Robinson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements and the body will be placed in the church at 10:00 A.M. Thursday. The family will receive friends in the B Wing of Foothills Presbyterian Home from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Wednesday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Foundation for Reformed Theology, 200 West Trade Street, Charlotte, North Carolina 28202.
The family is at the home of his brother, Harold Leith, 429 Meadow Ridge Road, Easley, S.C. 29642.

PROMISED LAND — Services for James Edward Lites, of 3915 McCormick Highway, are 2 p.m. Thursday at Mount Moriah Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Raymond Adams, assisted by the Revs. Michael Butler, Norris Turner and Jonathan Greene. The body will be placed in the church at 1. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers are church trustees.
Flower bearers are church volunteers.
Visitation is today at the home.

Azalee O’Dell
Azalee Tucker O’Dell, 74, of 307 Pinehurst Drive, wife of Lewis Ray “Red” O’Dell, died Monday, August 12, 2002 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Oconee County, she was a daughter of the late James Franklin and Dosia Edney Tucker. She graduated from Salem High School, Oconee, and retired from Greenwood Mills, Mathews Plant. She was a member of Siloam Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband of the home; a son, Donald Richard Tucker of Greenwood; a stepson, William Ray O’Dell of Ware Shoals; a sister, Agnes Tucker Akins of Hodges; a brother, Horace Eugene Tucker of Fairfax, Va.; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services are 3 p.m. Thursday at Blyth Funeral Home, with the Revs. Steve Crittendon and Gary Davis officiating. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are Odis Murray, Craig Tucker, Larry Akins, Chris Tucker, Mike Akins and Scott Davis. Visitation is from 2-3 Thursday at the funeral home.
The family is at the home.
Memorials may be made to Siloam Baptist Church, P.O. Box 373, Ninety Six, SC 29666 or to American Cancer Society, P.O. 1741, Greenwood, SC 29648.

Esther Threlkeld
ABBEVILLE — Esther Lee Finley Threlkeld, 79, of 3504 Cedar Springs Road, widow of Graymo Threlkeld, died Monday, August 12, 2002 at Abbeville County Memorial Hospital.
Born in Abbeville County, she was a daughter of the late Johnnie and Ioma Carol Finley. She was the owner and operator of Threlkeld Grocery and Campground, was retired from Abbeville Mills after 39 years of service and was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two sisters, Catherine F. McCaslan of Anderson and Mary F. Argo of Greenville.
Services are at 2 Thursday at Grace United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Darrin Hook.
Burial is in Sharon United Methodist Church Cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 1.
Visitation is tonight from 7-8 at Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to The Humane Society in Greenwood.
