Dorothy Brown
GREENWOOD — Dorothy Blum Brown, 80, resident of 430 Sagewood Road, widow of Creight Lagette Brown, died August 14, 2002 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Greenwood County, June 4, 1922, she was a daughter of the late Waddy T. and Maggie Sims Blum. She was retired from Greenwood Mills - Durst Plant and was a member of Troy United Methodist Church.
Surviving are four sisters, Betty Gunter, Carolyn Young and Martha Talbert, all of Greenwood and Mary Anne Edwards of McCormick; a brother, William Howard Blum of Elberton, GA; a daughter-in-law, Flora Reed Brown of Greenwood; grandchildren, Jenny Brown Edwards of Greenwood and Jamie Stephen Brown of the home.
Mrs. Brown was predeceased by a son, Stephen Lagette Brown, a brother, Waddy T. Blum, Jr. and a sister, Jean B. Stone.
Funeral services will be conducted 5PM Thursday from the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. George Boyd officiating.
Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Ansel Talbert, Ryan Deason, Ellis New, Tim McClain, Tony Stone, Ralph Reed, Weldon Reed and Tommy Blum.
The family is at the home of Martha and Ansel Talbert, 444 Dogwood Drive and will receive friends at the funeral home from 4 to 5 Thursday afternoon.
Blyth Funeral Home is in charge.

Marjorie Fletcher Englett
MARIETTA, Ga. — Marjorie Fletcher Englett, 81, formerly of Atlanta, widow of Woodrow Wilson Englett, died Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2002.
Born in Jenkinsburg, she lived in Atlanta most of her life before moving to Marietta. She was a member of Lakewood Heights Baptist Church, Atlanta.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Jay (Brenda) Brown of Marietta and Mrs. Jimmy (Peggy) Fleming of Greenwood, S.C.; a son, David Englett of Dallas, Ga.; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; a sister, Joann Sealock of Jackson; and a brother, Baker Fletcher of Dewey Rose.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home, conducted by the Revs. Byron H. Wells and David Brown. Burial is in Crestlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Atlanta.
Visitation is from 2-4 and 6-8 today at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Tranquility Community Hospice, 4040 Hospital West Drive, Austell, GA 30106-8117.

Lugenia Gilchrist Key
PLUM BRANCH — Lugenia Gilchrist Key, 71, wife of Henry Key Sr., died Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2002 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in McCormick County, she was a daughter of the late Willie and Bailey Adams Gilchrist. She was a member of the Mount Moriah Baptist Church and a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband of the home; four daughters, Jannie Key and Mrs. Lonell (Alfreda) Blair, both of McCormick, Shelia Holloway of Augusta, Ga., and Sarah F. Key of Atlanta; four sons, James Key and Leroy Key, both of McCormick, Larry Key Sr. of Plum Branch and Henry Key Jr. of Atlanta; four sisters, Eddie Lee Holmes of Alexandria, Va., Effie Dean and Willie B. Holmes, both of Edgefield and Dora Tucker of Augusta; 24 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
The family is at the home, Highway 283.
Services will be announced by Walker Funeral Home, McCormick.

Roscoe Aull
WARE SHOALS — Roscoe Aull, 76, of 13 Briar St., died Friday, Aug. 16, 2002, at his home.
Born in Ware Shoals, he was a son of John Henry and Corine Aull Makins. He worked as a construction worker and he was a World War II Army veteran. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include a daughter, Brenda Scott of Anderson; and three grandchildren.
Services are 3 p.m. today at Little River Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Sylvester Jackson. The body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Burial is in Dunn Creek Baptist Church cemetery.
The family is at the home and at the home of a cousin, Bernice Butler, 11 Briar St.

Buddy Batten
SALUDA — Claude Reece “Buddy” Batten, 73, of 103 Corley Ave., husband of Delilah Jennings Adams Batten, died Saturday, August 17, 2002 at his home.
Born in Troy, N.C., he was a son of the late Claude F. and Nannie Lammonds Batten. He was the retired owner and operator of Batten’s Body Shop and an Army veteran of the Korean conflict. He was a Mason and a member of the American Legion and the Travis Lodge. He was a member of Red Bank Baptist Church. He was first married to the late Sue Parsons Batten.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Reece Batten of Charleston; a daughter, Libby Bruton of Asheboro, N.C.; a stepson, David Adams of Johnston; a stepdaughter, Lynn Saverance of North Augusta; a brother, Carlie Batten of Troy; five sisters, Winnie Davis, Thelma Epps, Elaine Burgess, Grace Holdan and Janie Parnel all of Troy; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services are 5 p.m. today at Red Bank Baptist Church. Burial is in Travis Park Cemetery. Visitation is from 3:30-4:30 today in the church social hall.

William E. Brown
William Earl Brown, 71, of 1426 E. Cambridge Ave., died Friday, August 16, 2002 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Donalds, he was a son of the late William Rosman and Mamie Turner Brown. He worked at the Greenwood Mills Compound and retired from the Savannah River Site. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean conflict, served in the Navy Reserve and retired from the Army Reserve. He was a member of VFW, Fleet Reserve, D.A.V., where he was a volunteer driver, Joppa Lodge No. 387 A.F.M., Order of the Eastern Star and a member and past commander of the Hejaz Legion of Honor. He was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church and the Fellowship Class.
Survivors include two daughters, Reta Dianne Nadzan of Warner Robins, Ga. and Dana L. Ramsey of Greenwood; a son, Barry E. Brown of Greenwood; and two grandchildren.
Services, with Masonic rites, are 11 a.m. Monday at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Kim Eanes. Burial, with full military rites, is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are members of the Hejaz Legion of Honor.
Honorary escorts are members of Joppa Lodge No. 387 A.F.M., Fellowship Class of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, D.A.V. along with Julian Garrett, Floyd Davenport, Marion Davenport, Helen Davenport, Earl Wren, Dianne Anderson, Buddy Baldwin, Buddy Ridlehuber, Lamar Davenport, Allen Davenport and Mary Brown.

MCCORMICK — Elward Leonard “Gip” Creswell, 83, of 411 Cherry St., husband of Hazel Dukes Creswell, died Saturday August 17, 2002 at McCormick Health Care.
Born in Troy, he was a son of the late E.N. and Rosetta Langley Creswell. He was a retired 1st Sergeant and civil service technician for the S.C. National Guard of McCormick and a World War II Army veteran. He was a member and past master of Mine Lodge No. 117, McCormick Fire Department, VFW and American Legion. He was a member of Pressley Memorial ARP Church.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Ronnie Creswell of Marietta, Ga. and Keith Creswell of McCormick; two daughters, Sandra Wiley of Greenwood and Brenda Terrell of Plum Branch; a brother, Bernard Creswell of Lizella, Ga.; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Services are 11 a.m. Monday at Pressley Memorial ARP Church, conducted by the Rev. Elridge Kelly.
Burial, with Masonic or military rites, is in McCormick City Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Masons.

Born in Greenwood, he was a son of the late Bradford E. and Minnie Goldman Harrison. He was a meat buyer for Big Star Grocery Stores, retiring after 21 years of service. He was a member of Powers Ferry United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two daughters, Debbie Mauldin of Marietta and Kim Evans of Columbus; a brother, Fletcher Harrison of Greenwood; and three grandchildren.
Services are 2 p.m. today at Powers Ferry United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Max Caylor and Dr. John Brantley. Burial is in Kennesaw Memorial Park Cemetery.

SALUDA — Bessie Tharpe Long, widow of John Astor Long, died Saturday, August 17, 2002.
She was a daughter of the late McGowan Simpkins and Mattie Towles Tharpe. She was in business with her husband for many years and she was a retired teacher of Saluda School District One. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Cheri L. Crouch of Saluda; a son, Charlie M. and wife Beth W. Long of Saluda; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services are 1 p.m. Monday at St. Paul United Methodist Church. Burial is in Travis Park.

NINETY SIX — Henry Harrison Milam, 88, of 206 Lipscomb Ave., husband of Marema Free Milam, died Friday, August 16, 2002 at his home.
Born in Cartersville, Ga., he was a son of the late Henry H. Sr. and Romie Leake Milam. He was a graduate of Marietta High School. He retired from the US Postal Service as assistant postmaster of Ninety Six and he was a World War II Army veteran serving in the railroad battalion in Europe. A member and Elder of First Presbyterian Church, he formerly was a Sunday School superintendent and teacher. He was a member of the Eureka Masonic Lodge and Star Fort Post No. 103 of the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife of the home; a daughter, Judy M. Ouzts of Ninety Six; two sons, Henry H. Milam III of Midlothian, Va. and Jeff Milam of Ninety Six; a sister, Louise Milam of Cartersville; two brothers, Herman Milam of Chatsworth, Ga. and Robert Milam of Rochester, Minn.; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services are 2 p.m. Monday at Blyth Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Robert Morgan. Entombment is in Edgewood Memorial Mausoleum, Greenwood.

Survivors include a daughter, Bonnie E. Williams of Greenwood; a son, William Perry Powell of Hodges; two brothers, John Wesley Turner of Graniteville and Charlie Turner of Edgefield; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
