Dorothy Leslie
HODGES — Dorothy Nickles Leslie, 90, former resident of Main Street, widow of Robert H. Leslie, Sr., died August 27, 2002 at National Healthcare of Greenwood.
Born in Hodges, January 6, 1916, she was a daughter of the late William Benton and Louise Talbert Nickles. A graduate of Greenwood High School, she attended Winthrop College and Lander College.
She was a member of Hodges Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Louise L. Davis of Greenwood; two sons, Robert H. "Bobby" Leslie, Jr. of Greenwood and Charles E. Leslie of Ninety Six; a sister, Evelyn N. DePass of Dothan, AL; eight grandchildren and fourteen great-grand-children.
Mrs. Leslie was predeceased by a son, W. Benton Leslie.
Funeral services will be conducted 4PM Thursday at the Hodges Presbyterian Church with Rev. Robert P. Piephoff officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Scott Leslie, Rodney Grizzle, Mike Leslie, Harry Compton, Jay Johnson, Chad Heery, Terry Urban and Robert Ted Leslie.
Honorary escort will be the Elders of Hodges Presbyterian Church.
The body is at Blyth Funeral Home and will be placed in the church at 3PM Thursday afternoon.
The family is at the home of Benny and Louise Davis, 104 Anderson Drive in Greenwood and will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 Wednesday evening.

Kristie Elaine Wright, 20, of 104 Shrine Club Road, died Monday, Aug. 26, 2002, from injuries received in an automobile accident.
Born in Greenwood, she was a daughter of David Alexander Wright and Wanda Dixon Wright. She attended Lakeside Pentecostal Holiness Church, where she was a member of the Adult Sunday School Class.
Survivors include her father and stepmother, Shirley Driggers Wright of the home; her mother of Greenwood; two daughters, Cheyenne Paige Wright of Waterloo and Summer Alexis Deitz of Laurens; maternal grandparents, Chuck and Cleta Lounsbury of Waterloo; paternal grandmother, Evelyn Rawls of Greenwood; a sister, Cleta Barron of Waterloo; a brother, Steven Wright of Greenwood; a stepsister, Scarlett Perry of Greenwood; and two stepbrothers, Jake Barnett of Greenwood and Caury Barnett of Cross Hill.
Services are 2 p.m. Thursday at Lakeside Pentecostal Holiness Church, conducted by the Revs. Paul Cooper and Robert Albert. Burial is in Bethlehem Cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 1.
Pallbearers are David Perry, Jake Barnett, Brandon Bowick, Scott Rozier, Lee Davis and Rick Butler.
Honorary escorts are Amy Bannister, Amy Gambrell, Amanda Prather and Amanda Collins.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at Harley Funeral Home.

James ‘Jimmy’ Bell
CALHOUN FALLS — James Ladson “Jimmy” Bell, 60, died Friday, Aug. 30, 2002 at Self Regional Medical Center in Greenwood.
A native of Abbeville, he was a son of the late Robert Preston Bell Sr. and Ethel Jones Bell. He was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy and a supervisor at Mohawk for 40 years.
Survivors include his wife, Donna Faye Perry Bell of Calhoun Falls; two daughters, Kona Page and Keri Hunnicutt, both of Calhoun Falls; a brother, Robert P. Bell Jr. of Aynor; and three grandchildren.
Services are 3 p.m. Sunday at the Church of God of Prophecy, conducted by the Rev. Michael Ford. Burial is in Lattimer Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Arthur Evans, Tony Bonds, Wayne White, Roger White, William McCall and Nathan Bonds.
Visitation is from 2-3 Sunday at the church.
The family is at the home, 45 Oak Place.

Susie Briggs Davis
PLUM BRANCH — Susie Briggs Davis, 62, died Thursday, Aug. 29, 2002 at Augusta Hills Nursing and Rehabilitation.
Born in Plum Branch, she was a daughter of the late Jim and Pauline Mims Briggs. She was a member of Pine Grove A.M.E. Church, where she was a former member of the Trustee Board and Senior Choir and a member of the Women’s Home Aide Society No. 1. She was also a former Head Start teacher in Plum Branch.
Survivors include two sons, Barry Briggs of Fayetteville, N.C., and Kaylon Davis of Augusta; an aunt in whose home she was reared, Allean Searles of Plum Branch; three sisters, Dollie Motley and Lutisha Harrington, both of Detroit and Dorothy Ware of Morena Valley, Calif.; a brother, Jim Briggs of Waycross, Ga.; and two grandchildren.
Services are 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Pine Grove A.M.E. Church, conducted by the Rev. W.O. Vance, pastor, and the Rev. J.J. Robinson. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30. Burial is in the church cemetery.
The family is at the home, Pine Grove Road.

Curtis Hall
BELTON — Curtis Douglas Hall, 68, of 2345 Highway 185, husband of Susie Lowe Hall, died Friday, Aug. 30, 2002, at his home.
Born in Abbeville County, he was a son of the late Henry Grady and Rosella Poole Hall. He retired from Milliken in Abbeville after 41 years of service. A member of Mount Bethel Baptist Church, he had served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher and youth coach.
Survivors include his wife of the home; a son, Tony Curtis Hall of Anderson; a daughter, Wanda Hall Hart of Belton; three sisters, Ruby White and Rebecca Hall, both of Abbeville and Blanche Campbell of Antreville; and three grandchildren.
Services are 3 p.m. Sunday at Mount Bethel Baptist Church, conducted by Dr. Ron Culbertson, the Rev. Landrum Reece and the Rev. Rubert Reed. The body will be placed in the church at 2. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Visitation is from 6-8 tonight at Pruitt Funeral Home.

Willie T. Bryant
William Thomas “Willie T.” Bryant, 72, of 201 Piedmont Ave., husband of Elsie Kathleen Barton Bryant, died Friday, Aug. 30, 2002 at his home.
Born in Hart County, Ga., he was a son of Era Bridges Bryant and the late Matthew T. Bryant. He retired from the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Department as a sergeant in 1995 and was former owner of Bryant’s VW Garage and Bryant’s Grocery. He was a member of First Mt. Moriah Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of the home; his mother of Greenwood; a son, the Rev. Glenn T. Bryant of Easley; three daughters, Wanda Garland of New York City, Teresa Shackelford of Mt. Pleasant and Jennifer Brown of London, Ky; three brothers, James Bryant, Hoyt Bryant and Robert Bryant all of Greenwood; a sister, Alma Bryant of Greenwood; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services are 11 a.m. Monday at Blyth Funeral Home, conducted by Glenn Goodwin, the Revs. Glenn Bryant, Ron Taffer, Mike Brown and Fred Smith. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

Julius Thomas Floyd III
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Julius Thomas “Tom” Floyd III, 59, husband of Carolyn Thomason Floyd, formerly of Greenwood, died Friday, Aug. 30, 2002 at his home.
Born in Conway, S.C., he was a son of the late Julius Thomas Floyd Jr. and Isla Page Floyd. He was a realtor/broker with Allen Tate Realty. He was very active in his church where he served as a deacon, Sunday School Teacher and Director, choir member and choir director. He was a Shriner and a member of the Greenwood Masonic Lodge No. 91.
Survivors include his wife of Charlotte; a son, Matt Floyd of Charlotte; two daughters, Julie and Elizabeth “Liz” Floyd both of Charlotte and a brother, Charles L. Floyd of Greenville.
Memorial services are 4 p.m. Sunday at Candlewyck Baptist Church, conducted by Dr. D. Allen Schuyler.

Rossie Eleanor Mason Cross, 84, widow of Thomas Cross, died Sunday, Sept. 1, 2002 at National Healthcare, Greenwood.
Born in Lincolnton, Ga., she was a daughter of the late Charlie L. and Amelia Hawes Mason. She was a former member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, Lincolnton and a present member of St. Mary Baptist Church of Macon, Ga.
Survivors include a brother, Bernard and wife Maggie Mason of Charlotte, N.C.; and two sisters, Mrs. Joseph (Marion) Murray Sr. of Atlanta and Hiwadii L. Mason Mitchell of Greenwood.
Services are 3 p.m. Wednesday at Ebenezer Baptist Church. Burial is in the church cemetery.

WARE SHOALS — Virginia Voncele Trussell Partridge, 69, widow of T.A. Partridge, died Sunday, Sept. 1, 2002 at Long’s Residential Care, Saluda.
Born in Ware Shoals, she was a daughter of the late William Everett and Virginia Padgett Trussell. She was a member of Full Gospel Tabernacle.
Survivors include a son, Tony Ray Partridge of Greenwood; two brothers, John W. Trussell of Pickens and Carlton M. Trussell of Waterloo; four sisters, Mrs. Charles Ray (Dolores) Chapman of Murrells Inlet, Mrs. Gene (Barbara) Bridges of Stone Mountain, Ga., and Mrs. Linton (Pat) Mann and Mrs. Allen (Jane) West, both of Greenwood.
Services are 3 p.m. Wednesday at Parker-White Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Calvin Branche.
Burial is in Ware Shoals Cemetery.

Mr. Lewis Frank Putnam
ANDERSON, SC — Mr. Lewis Frank Putnam, age 82, of 604 Marshall Avenue and husband of Carol Putnam, died Saturday, August 31, 2002 at the Anderson Area Medical Center in Anderson.
Born July 25, 1920 in Greenwood, South Carolina, Mr. Putnam was a son of the late John Rivington Putnam and Bessie Holmes Putnam. He was associated with Welborn Shoes and retired from Gallant-Belk Department Stores. He was a United States Navy Veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a 1950 graduate of Furman University. Mr. Putnam was a member of First Baptist Church, Anderson where he was a member of the Baraca Sunday School Class.
Survivors include his wife Carol Putnam, of the home; six children, Gene Putnam of Rock Hill, Vickie Stevenson of Belton, Angela Clark of Santa Cruz, California, Scott Putnam of Central, Jodi Putnam of Anderson and John Putnam of Troutman, North Carolina; five grandchildren, Kristi Taylor Hampton, Heather Putnam, Russell Wilcox, Ryan Stevenson and Chelsey Place and one great-granddaughter, Makenzie Hampton.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 4, 2002 at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church of Anderson with the Reverends Richard Lister and Phil Dixon officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Anderson.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 3, 2002 from 6:30-8:30 PM at The McDougald Funeral Home. The family is at the residence.

Born in Saluda County, she was a daughter of the late Grady Leon and Eula Leaphart Black. She was a dietary supervisor with Saluda Nursing Center and a member of the Golden Agers Club, The Masters Bouquet and the Emory Community Club. She was a member of Emory United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, James Eddie and wife Janice Rowe of Saluda; a daughter, Mrs. Van (Debra) Shealy of Saluda; a brother, Jack Black of Saluda; four sisters, Willie Mae Powell, Thelma Langford and Betty Mitchell, all of Saluda and Ruby Keisler of Lexington; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services are 4 p.m. Wednesday at Emory United Methodist Church, conducted by the Revs. Boyd Chewning and Nels Ledwell. Burial is in the church cemetery.

Born May 26, 1938, in Leck, Va., she was a daughter of the late William J. and Florence Rose Murphy. She was a member of the Shady Grove United Methodist Church.
Survivors include husband James Stallard, of Dandridge; a daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Greg Strickland of Greenwood; son David Stallard and wife Kathy of Knoxville, Tenn.; son Kevin Stallard and wife Phyllis of Abington, Va.; sisters and brothers Cloia Burnside of Palatka, Fla., Ida Myrtle May of Wise, Va., Howard Murphy of Fruitland Park, Fla., Adel Sturgell of Dandridge, Tenn., and Gay Massie of Coeburn, Va.; and grandchildren.
