Annie Smith, 104
ABBEVILLE — Annie Margaret Simmons Smith, 104, formerly of Church Street, widow of James Franklin Smith, died Thursday, Sept. 19, 2002 at National Health Care of Greenwood.
Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Drurie Raymond and Eugenia Keaton Simmons. She was a homemaker, a graduate of Anderson College and the oldest member of Abbeville Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Morris W. (Eugenia) Lawton of Abbeville, Mrs. Charles E. II (Barbara) Richardson of Staunton, Va., and Mrs. C.L. Jr. (Carolyn) Clarke of West Palm Beach, Fla.; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services are 2 p.m. Saturday at Harris Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. John Timmerman. Burial is in Long Cane Cemetery.
Visitation is from 7-8 tonight at the funeral home.
The family is at the home of Morris and Eugenia Lawton, 285 Noble Drive.
Memorials may be made to Abbeville Presbyterian Church Organ Fund, P.O. Box 733, Abbeville, SC 29620.

Linwood Smith
SALUDA — Linwood Pope Smith, 62, of 253 Barr Woods Road, died Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2002, at Self Regional Medical Center in Greenwood.
Born in Saluda County, he was a son of the late Ernest Linwood and Dorothy Sample Smith and a stepson of the late Cora Wells Smith. He was a former employee of Milliken & Co. and a member of Good Hope Baptist Church.
Survivors include cousins.
Graveside services are 11 a.m. Saturday in Mayson Memorial Cemetery, conducted by the Revs. Louie Murray and John Griffith.
Ramey Funeral Home is in charge.

Sadie W. Belk
GREENWOOD — Sadie Wooten Belk, 81, of 112 High Street, wife of the Rev. Morton B. Belk Sr., died Friday, September 20, 2002 at NHC Health Care Center.
Born in Anderson, she was a daughter of the late Harrison H. and Georgia McKee Wooten. She was of the Holiness faith and attended Full Gospel Foundation Church.
She was preceded in death by a son, Marlin Baylis Belk; a daughter, Rebecca Belk Dove; a granddaughter, Sherri Belk Odom; and a great grandson, Christopher Michael Odom.
Surviving is her husband; three sons and daughters-in-law, the Rev. Morton B. Belk Jr. and Ludez Bray Belk of Iva, David Daniel Belk Sr. and Ann Sucik Belk of Tamassee, SC and Ray Alvin Belk Sr. and Shirley Price Belk of Greenwood; 15 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Harley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Vernon Koon officiating. Burial will be in Iva City Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be David Belk Jr., Kevin Belk, Steven Belk, Alvin Belk, Bryan Norwood, Randy Crawford, Hiram Burdette and Joe Norwood.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m.
The family will be at the Full Gospel Foundation Church Fellowship Hall, next door to their house.

Larry W. Dorn
AUGUSTA, Ga. — Larry Wayne Dorn, 54, of 2108 Division St., husband of Mary Gilliam Dorn, died Friday, Sept. 20, 2002 at his home.
Born in Greenwood, he was a son of Irene Dorn King and the late Edward A. King. He was an iron foundry worker in Augusta and an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
Survivors include his wife of the home; his mother of Greenwood; a son, Donald Dorn of Greenwood; two daughters, Mandy Goodwin of Waynesboro, Ga., and Julie Dorn of McCormick; two stepchildren, James Lucas Jr. and Callie Lovell, both of Columbia; and nine grandchildren.
Graveside services are 2 p.m. Sunday at Mount Carmel United Methodist Church Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Bob Napier.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at Harley Funeral Home.
The family is at his mother’s home, 404 Kirksey Drive, Greenwood.
Memorials may be made to Harley Funeral Home, payment on the account of Larry Wayne Dorn, P.O. Box 777, Greenwood, S.C. 29648.

Doris Smith Elam, 53, died Friday, Sept. 20, 2002 at Wesley Commons.
The family is at the home of a sister, Linda Hill, 104 Wilson Ave., Bradley.
Services will be announced by Robinson & Son Mortuary Inc.

Maggie Gunter
McCORMICK — Services for Maggie Chamberlain “Bay Wee” Gunter are 3 p.m. Sunday at Cedar Spring Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. E.M. Gordon. The body will be placed in the church at 2.
Burial is in Mount Lebanon Baptist Church Cemetery.
Grandsons are pallbearers, and flower bearers are church ushers.
Visitation is at the home of a daughter, Mrs. James (Sadie) Fuller, 316 Highway 378 E., Edgefield County.
Viewing is at Walker Funeral Home until 2 Sunday.

John Henry Kennedy
CALHOUN FALLS — John Henry Kennedy, 74, husband of Daisy Kennedy, died Thursday, Sept. 19, 2002, at Abbeville County Memorial Hospital.
Born in Calhoun Falls, he was a son of the late Frank and Annie Kennedy.
Survivors include his wife; his children, Curtis Bell, Thelma Kennedy, Mrs. John (Virginia) Glover, Kathleen Banks, John Kennedy, Gloria Gray, William Kennedy, Mrs. Ben (Connie) Wardlaw, Mrs. Jeffery (Audrey) Ford, James Kennedy, Mrs. Johnny (Dale) Gilchrist and Robert Kennedy, all of Calhoun Falls; three stepchildren, Mrs. Donald (Valane) Hill, Mrs. Noel (Debra) Thompson and Catina Dubose, all of Abbeville; three brothers, Frank Kennedy, Andy Kennedy and Albert Kennedy, all of Calhoun Falls; seven sisters, Alberta Ramey, Mary F. Sanders, Thelma Bryant, Willie M. Kennedy, Liddelle Kennedy, Anna M. Kennedy and Rosa Mary Murray, all of Calhoun Falls; 30 grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Services are 3:30 Sunday at Springfield Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Johnnie Waller, pastor. Burial is in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Abbeville.
Pallbearers are friends of the family.
Flower bearers are church ushers.
The family is at the home of a daughter, Gloria Gray, 105 Broadwell.

Harold Robinson
BRONX, N.Y. — Harold Robinson, 65, of 120-12 Darron Place, husband of Rose Robinson, died Sunday, Sept. 15, 2002 in Bronx.
Born in Greenwood, S.C., he was a son of the late Willie James Robinson Sr. and Jurlyen W. Robinson. He was a 1955 graduate of Brewer High School.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Regional Eugene Robinson of Greenwood and Ronald Eric Robinson of Rock Hill; four sisters, Elizabeth R. Pearson of Jamaica (Long Island), N.Y., Dorothy R. Horton of Bronx, Chloe Emma L. Pulliam and Alice R. Turner, both of Greenwood; and seven grandchildren.
Services are 3 p.m. Sunday at Parks Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Ulysses Parks. Burial is in Little Zion A.M.E. Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers and flower bearers are friends of the family.
The family is at the home of a sister, Alice Turner, 132 New Market St., Greenwood.

Averit Saylors
GREENWOOD — Averit Ellison Saylors, 76, resident of 118 Hazelwood Court, husband of Lou Walker Saylors, died September 20, 2002 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Greenwood County, November 12, 1925, he was a son of the late Robert Lonnie and Nellie Ellison Saylors. He was a 1943 graduate of Ninety Six High School.
Mr. Saylors served as a gunner on a B-24 Liberator Bomber with the 15th US Army Air Force Battalion while stationed in Italy during WW II. He also obtained the rank of Lieutenant with the SC National Guard.
In 1949 he graduated from Clemson College where he received a B.S. Degree in Textiles.
Mr. Saylors was retired from Chickasaw Processing Company and had formerly served on the staff of the YMCA from 1974 to 1984.
A member of Lowell Street United Methodist Church and the Men's Bible Class of the church, he was also a van driver and assisted with the youth programs of the church.
He also served as a delegate to the Annual Methodist Conference.
He formerly served as president of the Mathews Lion's Club and as president of the Grenola PTA.
He was active in scouting having obtained the rank of Eagle Scout and served as Scout Master for Troop #70 and #53.
He was also active in school activities and civic and fraternal organizations.
Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are a daughter, Vicky S. Waters of Greenwood; a brother, Robert L. Saylors, Jr. of Bossier City, LA; three grandchildren, Lisa W. Carruth, Jennifer Medlock and Robbie Waters; a greatgrandchild, Robert Tyler Medlock.
Mr. Saylors was predeceased by a sister, Annie Vernelle Matthews.
Funeral services will be conducted 3PM Sunday from the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bob Allen and Rev. Charles Sperry officiating.
Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Jim Ballard, Ray Lorick, Ed Davis, Ray Davenport, Bobby McDonald, Bill Sandel, Jody Chaney and Jack Huskey.
Honorary escort will be members of the Men's Bible Class of Lowell Street United Methodist Church.
The family is at the home in Hazelwood Court and will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 Saturday evening.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Faye Walters Fund at Lowell Street United Methodist Church, 300 Lowell Avenue, Greenwood, SC 29646.

Dolores Maria Walsh
Dolores Maria Walsh (Mills), 78, of Hampton House, formerly of Rockaway, N.Y., died Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2002 at a Spartanburg hospital.
Born in Jamaica, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late Joe and Sara Cassidy Walsh. A retired teacher, she was of the Catholic faith and was married to the late Rondol Houseal Mills. She lived at Hampton House for the past year.
Survivors include a son, Ronald Mills of Bernville, Pa.; five daughters, Patricia Miller of Weirsdale, Fla., Maureen Ambrusio of Glendale, N.Y., Veronica Noll of Reading, Pa.; Monica Brownlee of Waterloo and Suzanne Hatcher of Cross Anchor; 18 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A private service was conducted at the family home.

Jackie Ray Brooks
HARTWELL, Ga. — Jackie Ray Brooks, 68, of 112 Woodlake Circle, husband of Martha Lowman Brooks, died Sunday, Sept. 22, 2002 at Heardmont Nursing Center in Elberton.
The family is at the home.

Eleanor Childress
WARE SHOALS — Eleanor Knight Childress, 83, wife of Arthur Childress, of Highway 25 North, died Monday, Sept. 23, 2002 at Self Regional Medical Center in Greenwood.
Born in Greenville County, she was a daughter of the late O.M. and Pauline Estes Knight and a member of Harmony United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Home Demonstration Club of Laurens County for 60 years, a 4-H Club leader for 36 years and manager of Brewerton voting precinct. She also published a book of poems, “Treasures From My Heart.”
Survivors include her husband of the home; a son, Frank Childress of Ware Shoals; two daughters, Janice C. Webb of Ware Shoals and Gail C. Barton of Greenwood; two sisters, Marguerite Knight of Ware Shoals and Sybil Leverette of Honea Path; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Services are 4 p.m. Wednesday at Harmony United Methodist Church, conducted by the Revs. Charlie Summey and Chris Stansell.
Burial is in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers are Chris Webb, Jim Grizzle, Mark Chandler, Billy Childress, Jeff Knight and George Estes.
Visitation is from 3-4 Wednesday at the church.
The family is at the home of Chris Webb, 378 Maddox Bridge Road.

Beatrice L. Dozier
NINETY SIX — Beatrice Leopard Dozier, 79, of 109 Duke St., widow of Vernon Dozier, died Sunday, Sept. 22, 2002 at National Health Care.
Born in Saluda County, she was a daughter of the late Ben and Farrah Bell Leopard. She retired from Greenwood Mills, Adams Plant, where she was a member of the Quarter Century Club. She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include a sister, Eva DeLoach of Greenwood.
Graveside services are 2 p.m. today in Greenwood Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Charles Owens.
Visitation is from 12:30-1:30 today at Harley Funeral Home.

Basil Hall
Basil Franklin Hall, 81, of 215 Lake Forest Drive, husband of Elnita Thomas Hall, died Monday, Sept. 23, 2002, at Self Regional Medical Center.
Services will be announced by Blyth Funeral Home.
