Forrest E. Finley
WALHALLA — Forrest E. Finley, 87, husband of Florence Freeman Finley, died Monday, Oct. 7, 2002 at the Mariner Health Care.
A native of Chicago, he was a son of the late William and Denova Brown Finley. He was twice married, first to the late Virginia Joy Roebuck Watt Finley. He was a retired fireman of the Chicago Fire Department, a Mason for 50 years and a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife of the home; a son, Sherwood F. Finley of Chicago; a stepson, Franklin Manning of Greenwood; a daughter, Pamela Brady of Chicago; a stepdaughter, Brenda Wood of Ware Shoals; and two grandchildren.
Graveside services are 1 p.m. today in St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery.
There will be no formal visitation.
Davenport Funeral Home is in charge.

Mary E. Williams
Mary E. Williams, 74, of 207 Green Oaks Road, died Tuesday, October 8, 2002, at her home after several years of declining health. A native of Spartanburg, she was the daughter of Berthena Howell and the late W. Doug Howell. She was a homemaker and a member of Arkwright Baptist Church. Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Ann Brooks and Tony Partridge of the home, and Gail W. Smith and her husband Mike of Roebuck, SC; two grandsons, Dale Smith and his wife Retta of Wellford, SC, and Alan "George" Smith and his wife Lauri of Pauline, SC; five great-grandchildren, Taylor and Justin Smith of Wellford, SC, and Logan, Hunter, and Bailee Smith of Pauline, SC; and one brother, Frank Howell of Spartanburg, SC. She was predeceased by two sisters, Hazel Easler and Betty Coker. She was formerly married to H. J. Williams.
Visitation will be 7-9:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 9, 2002, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 10, 2002, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel conducted by the Rev. Tom C. Moore. Burial will be in Heritage Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Dale Smith, George Smith, Danny Easler, David Easler, Johnny Lipscombe, and Eddie Howell.
The family is at the home of her daughter, Gail Smith, 129 Coleridge Road, Roebuck.

Treadwell Wright
PARKSVILLE — Norman Treadwell Wright, 63, of Old Augusta Highway, husband of Gail Kelley Wright, died Monday, Oct. 7, 2002 at his home.
Born in Lincoln County, Ga., he lived in Parksville most of his life. He was an Army veteran and a member of the American Legion and VFW.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Steven Wright of Thomson, Ga., and Keith Wright of Lincolnton, Ga.; a daughter, Joy Wright Patterson of Abbeville; four sisters, Bobbie Aycock, Daphne Rowland, Ophelia Gibson and Reesie Ludwig, all of Lincolnton; and eight grandchildren.
Graveside services are 3 p.m. today in Parksville Baptist Church Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Michael Wrenn.
Memorials may be made to HospiceCare of the Piedmont, 408 W. Alexander Ave., Greenwood, SC 29646.

Jetto Henley
SALUDA — Jetto Henley, 73, of 440 Henley Road, husband of Rebecca Simpkins Henley, died Monday, Oct. 7, 2002 at his home.
Born in Saluda, he was a son of the late Annie Mae Henley and George Graham. He was a member of Lockhart Baptist Church, where he was a deacon, president of the Senior Choir and a member of the Senior Citizens Auxiliary. He was also a member of the NAACP and a retired employee of Greenwood Mills Mathews Plant.
Survivors include his wife of the home; three sons, William Henley, Warren Butler and Timothy Henley, all of Saluda; two daughters, Mrs. Charlie (Annie H.) Davis of Saluda and Mrs. Calvin (Catherine) Lanier of Troy; four brothers, John Graham of Rockbridge Bath, Va., Theodore Graham of Colorado, Claude Graham and Willis Graham, both of Bronx, N.Y.; a sister, Lois Eagan of Bronx; 18 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Services are 3 p.m. Friday at Lockhart Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Herman Jenkins. The body will be placed in the church at 2. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers and flower bearers are friends of the family.
Visitation is at the home.

Ethan McCord
ABBEVILLE — Ethan Chase McCord, 12, of 3014 Stevenson Road, died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002 at his home.
He was a member of Southside Baptist Church. Born in Greenwood, he was a son of James Preston and Virginia Whiten McCord.
Survivors include his parents of the home; a brother, Brad McCord of the home; paternal grandfather, Bradley McCord of Abbeville; maternal grandmother, Sophie Whiten of Abbeville; and great-grandmother, Virginia Whiten of Abbeville.
Services are 4 p.m. Friday at Southside Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Earl Hartley. Burial is in Long Cane Cemetery.
Visitation is from 5-7 tonight at Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home.
The family is at the home.

John Mobley
ABBEVILLE — Charlie John Mobley Jr., 24, of 629 Watts Road, Watts Community, died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002.
Born in Abbeville County, he was a son of Amolene Richey Mobley and the late Charlie John Mobley Sr. He was employed with Ferguson Produce in Abbeville and was of the Presbyterian faith.
Survivors include his mother and a sister, Sue Carolyn Richey, both of the home.
Services are 1 p.m. Friday at Warrenton Presbyterian Church, conducted by Otto McDonald. Burial is in the church cemetery.

Pete Anderson
ABBEVILLE — James “Pete” Palmer Anderson, 82, of 766 Old Hodges Road, husband of Alice Brown Anderson, died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002 at Abbeville Nursing Home.
Born in Easley, he was a son of the late Joe B. and Allie Mae Bell Anderson. He was a World War II Army veteran, retired owner and operator of Anderson Plumbing Co., and a member of Victory Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of the home; three sisters, Eloise Dew of Anderson, Frances Aiken of Easley and Drucella Linn of Greenville; two stepdaughters, Rita Gamble and Kathy Greer, both of Abbeville; a stepson, George Hall of Abbeville; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services are 1 p.m. Saturday at Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Julian Ford. Burial is 4 p.m. in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Easley.
Visitation is from 12-1 Saturday at the funeral home.
The family is at the home of his stepson, George Hall, 744 Old Hodges Road.

Daniel Herring
SWAINSBORO, Ga. — Daniel George Herring, 41, husband of Angela Shaw Herring, died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002 at Emanuel Medical Center.
A native of Charleston, he was a son of David L. Herring Sr. and Gayle K. Simmons. He was an electrician with Emanuel County Board of Education and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife of Swainsboro; his father and stepmother, Lilly Brooks Herring of Marion; his mother and stepfather, John L. Simmons of Beech Island; three daughters, Mallory Drew Herring, Carolyn Lee Herring and Danielle Christina Herring, all of Swainsboro; two brothers, David L. Herring Jr. of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Darryl S. Herring of Jacksonville, Fla.; two stepsisters, Marian Herring of Charlotte, N.C., and Pamela Herring of Raleigh, N.C.; a stepbrother, Patrick Herring of Goldsboro, N.C.; and a maternal grandmother, Carolyn E. King of Aiken.
Graveside services are 1 p.m. Saturday in the Mount Olive Baptist Church Cemetery, Waterloo, conducted by David L. Herring Sr.
Visitation is from 6-8 tonight at Peebles-Curry-Durden Mortuary.

Needom Poole
GREENVILLE — Jasper Needom Poole, 90, of 5 Spruce St., formerly of Ware Shoals, died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002 at his home.
A native of Anderson County, he was a son of the late Christopher Columbus “Bud” and Sally Cornelia Shirley Poole. A World War II Army veteran, he retired from Riegel Textiles, Ware Shoals and was a member of Agnew Road Church of God and the Men’s Bible Class.
Survivors include his son-in-law, Grady Stewart of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Grady (Samantha) Stewart, with whom he made his home and June Humbert of Ware Shoals; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Services are 3 p.m. today at Westville Memorial Funeral Home, with burial in Graceland Cemetery, West.
The family is at the home of a granddaughter Teresa Ashley, 8 Spruce St.

Mozell Robinson
SPARTANBURG — Mozell Robinson, 89, died Thursday, Sept. 12, 2002.
Born in Greenwood, S.C., she was a daughter of the late John Calvin and Annie L. Robinson. She was a member of Travelers Rest Missionary Baptist Church and Chapter 72, Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include four sisters, Berry L. Clardy of East Elmhurst, N.Y., Beulah R. Greene of Flushing, N.Y., Johnnie M. Hardy and Louise Leverette, both of McCormick; a brother, James Robinson of Flushing, N.Y.; and four grandchildren.
Services and burial were Sept. 15 at Travelers Rest Missionary Baptist Church.

Robert Lee Ruff
Robert Lee Ruff, 67, of 720 Gage St., husband of Bettie Jean Ruff, died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Greenwood County, he was a son of the late Willie Earl and Bessie Bell WilliamRuff. He was a member of Pine Pleasant Baptist Church and the Senior Choir of the church and a former employee of Greenwood Packing Plant.
Survivors include his wife of the home; six stepchildren, Priscilla Drennon, Kenneth Carter and Micheal Jones, all of Promised Land, Eushonda Carter and Mark Carter, both of Greenwood and Reginald Carter of Patterson, N.J.; a sister, Nancy Hart of Atlanta; a brother, Jimmy Ruff of Ninety Six; 11 step-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren.
The family is at the home.
Services will be announced by Robinson & Son Mortuary Inc.

Gertrude Brabham
Gertrude Penn Brabham, 95, of 152 E. Cambridge Ave., widow of Cleveland James “Bill” Brabham, died Friday, Oct. 11, 2002 at National Health Care of Greenwood.
Born in the Callison Community of Greenwood County, she was a daughter of the late J. Christopher and Mary Coleman Penn. She graduated from Magnolia School and attended Lander College. Retiring from Greenwood School District 50 in 1978 as secretary at Northside Junior High School, she began her career with District 50 as the first secretary at Greenwood High School when it opened in 1925. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Benson Sunday School Class of the church.
Survivors include a son, Jim Brabham of Greenwood; four sisters, Angelle P. Adams, Christine P. Henderson, Virginia P. Johnson and Rebecca P. Wilburn, all of Greenwood; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services are 3 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church, conducted by Dr. Tony Hopkins and the Rev. Chris P. Wilburn. The body will be placed in the church at 2. Burial is in Edgewood Cemetery.
Pallbearers are L.B. Adams Jr., Tom Henderson, Yates Johnson, Mike Johnson, Bill Wilburn, O’Neal Yeargin and Earl Wrenn.
Honorary escorts are R.O. Marbert, Boykin Curry, Jesse Boyce, Hank Barnette, Steve Shiflet and Dr. Grover Henderson III.
Visitation is 6-8 tonight at Blyth Funeral Home.

GRIFFIN, Ga. — Lonnye G. Daniels, of 219 Armstead Circle, died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002 at Griffin Spalding Regional Hospital.
Born in Greenwood County, S.C., she was a daughter of the late Russell and Lela N. Gray. She was educated in Greenwood schools and was a retired educator. She was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter and a son.
Services are 2 p.m. Monday at Mount Zion Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Dr. C.P. Lacy. Burial is in Griffin Memorial Gardens.
Local family members are at the home of a sister-in-law, Willye M. Gray, Greenwood.

DONALDS — Sarah “Doll” Daucy Shirley Gambrell, 87, formerly of Willie Kay Road, widow of Marvin Gambrell, died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002 at National Health Care Center in Greer.
Born in Abbeville County, she was a daughter of the late Dewitt Stewart and Ola Jane Johnson Shirley. She was a homemaker and a member of Winona Baptist Church. She attended Bethany Baptist Church in Fountain Inn for 10 years.
Survivors include four sons, Truman Gambrell of Anderson, Jerry Gambrell of Johnston, Lamar Gambrell of Greenville and Donnie Gambrell of Pawleys Island; a daughter, Brenda Wilson of Gray Court; two brothers, Larry Shirley of Donalds and Fred Shirley of Taylors; two sisters, Mary Lindsay of Honea Path and Cleo Cooley of Lincolnton, Ga.; 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Services are 3 p.m. today at Pruitt Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Roscoe Wilson. Burial is in Winona Baptist Church Cemetery.
Visitation is 1:30-3 today at the funeral home.
