Visitation is 6:30-8:30 tonight at Hartley Funeral Home. Born in Gaffney to Billie Parris Fleming and Maynard Parris Sr., he died Nov. 10, 2004. Surviving: sons, Isom Jr., John Parris; brother, Smitty Parris; sister, Nadine Cheek; 3 grandchildren.

Lois McKinney

GREENWOOD — Services for Lois Goff McKinney, 91, widow of Carl McKinney, will be 2 p.m. (viewing 1 p.m.) Sunday at Durst Avenue Church of God, burial in Greenwood Memorial Gardens. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Harley Funeral Home. Born in Ninety Six to J.H. and Cora Wells Goff, she died Nov. 11, 2004. She retired from Grendel Mill. Surviving: sister, Gladys Hardy; brother, Billy Ray Goff.

Stephen McCaskill

BISHOPVILLE — Funeral services for Stephen Wallace McCaskill, age 75, who died Nov. 10, will be held Sunday at 3:00 from the Community Bible Church. Revs. Jerry Peacock & Billy McGougan will officiate. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery directed by Norton Funeral Home. Visitation will be Saturday 6-8 pm at the Funeral Home.

Mr. McCaskill was born in Lee Co. a son of the late A.J. & Gussie Syphrett McCaskill. He attended Community Bible Church and was an Army & Air Force veteran.

Surviving are his wife: Juanita Bevis McCaskill, Bishopville; son: Faron Dwayne (Fay) McCaskill, Bishopville; daughters: Karen Denise McCaskill & companion, Mitch Branton, Bishopville, Elizabeth Ashley McCaskill, of the home; brother: Lonnie A. (Virginia) McCaskill, Claxton, Ga.; sister: Fannie (Joe) Walters, Lugoff; several nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by a half brother: Allan McCaskill.

Shirley Manville

CHERAW — Shirley L. Manville, 80, died Wednesday, November 10, 2004. Born in Mauldin, MA she was a daughter of the late Ray Harrison and Almeta Harris Miller Lindgren. She was the widow of Paul Manville. She was a graduate of Simons College in Boston, MA. She liked to read and sew.

Surviving are son and daughter-in-law, Bruce (Glenda) Manville of Cheraw, SC; daughter, Katherine Manville of Clio, SC; daughter, Janet Hunt of McColl, SC; 2 grandchildren; 2 nieces and 1 nephew.

A graveside service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, November 14, 2004 at Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens, Cheraw, SC. The family will receive friends following the service.

Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

William Bates Jr.

LUGOFF — William M. “Bill” Bates, Jr., 63, of Lugoff, SC, retired banker of First Citizens Bank and Trust Co., Lugoff Branch, an avid woodworker, gunsmith and sportsman, died at Duke University Medical Center from cancer on Sunday, October 31, 2004. He is survived by his fiancee, Minnie Blackmon Sangster, PhD of Raleigh, NC, two brothers, Frankie C. Bates, architect of Murrells Inlet, SC and Daniel C. Bates, MD of Mount Pleasant, SC and six nieces and nephews.

Bill was born in Florence, SC and graduated from McClenaghan High School in Florence before attending Clemson University. He served on the Board of the Kershaw County Vocational Educational Foundation, Inc.

Memorials may be made to the Kershaw County Vocational Educational Foundation, Inc., PO Box 10, Lugoff, SC 29078-0010.

Memorial services will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, November 20, 2004, at Rowan Presbyterian Church, 818 Ridgeway Road, Lugoff, SC.

John Bess Jr.

DARLINGTON — Services for John “Junior” Bess Jr., 11 a.m. Saturday at Darlington H.S. Gymnasium; burial: Faith Memorial Gardens, directed by Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home. Born in Lenoir, N.C., to John and Anna Adams Bess Sr., he died Nov. 6, 2004. Surviving are parents; siblings, Felicia Ross, Vonnita Kimble, Akueilla, Eric Bess, Derrick Harrell, Freddie Evans; grandmother, Tressie Bess; others.

Terry Collins

SUMMERVILLE — Entered into eternal rest on the afternoon of November 10, 2004, Terry Thaddeus Collins, husband of Myrtice Lane Collins. Residence, Summerville, SC. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Terry Thaddeus Collins are invited to attend the funeral services of the former Friday, November 12, 2004 at the graveside in Greenlawn Memorial Park in Columbia, SC at two o’clock.

Mr. Collins was born September 3, 1906 in Alachua, Florida, the son of George Thaddeus Collins and Annie Terry Collins. He retired as a bus driver with Greyhound Bus Line. He was a member of Pineview Baptist Church in Lexington, SC.

He is survived by his wife of Summerville, SC; one daughter Linda C. Bush of Charleston, SC; three grandchildren: Major Lee Wingfield of London England, Shand W. Josey of Florence, SC and Catherine S. Dremann of Camp Lejune, Jacksonville, NC; seven great grandchildren.

KINGSTREE — Services for Ruth Elizabeth Cooper, 83, widow of Frank Cooper, will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at St. John AME Church, Nesmith; burial: Snow Cemetery; wake: 6-7 p.m. Saturday at Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Born in Newport News, Va., to Ernest and Viola Scott Pearson, she died Nov. 11, 2004. Surviving are seven daughters; two sons; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; others.

Delvin Cunningham

COLUMBIA — Services for Delvin P. “Dibb” Cunningham will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at Bostick-Tompkins Funeral Home with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Born in Columbia to Huey Cunningham and David Mae S. Lucas, he died Nov. 10, 2004. Surviving are loving wife, Judith B. Cunningham; son, Delvin Cunningham Jr.; mother; sister, Songa Sterling.

Richard Dallio

LEXINGTON — Richard Paul Dallio, 57, of Lexington, formerly of New York, passed away peacefully with his family beside him Oct. 28, 2004 in Tampa, Fla. Survivors include his son, Richard, and brother, Douglas. Born October 26, 1947, Richard moved to S.C. in 2000 where he worked for UHaul and Reeds Jewelers. The family will recieve friends on Sunday from 7 to 9 pm.

James DeLoache

DURHAM, N.C. — James Lester DeLoache, age 90, died on November 10, 2004 at the Brian Center in Durham, NC.

A native of Saluda, South Carolina, Mr. DeLoache was the son of the late James N. and Mary Lester DeLoache.

Mr. DeLoache was a graduate of Clemson University and served in the U.S. Army during World War II, both in Europe and Japan. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for his courage and leadership in Germany in 1945 while serving with the 343th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Battalion, Headquarters Company. He was later engaged as a ROTC Instructor at the University of Dayton in Ohio. Since his retirement as a Lieutenant Colonel on May 8, 1974, Mr. DeLoache has been a timber farmer in North Carolina while residing in Carrboro.

Surviving are a brother and sister-in-law, Paul M. and Lois K. DeLoache, of Saluda, NC; sister, Sarah D. (Mrs. Edward V.) Gibson of Sumter, NC; sister, Dora D. (Mrs. Sidney B.) Hare of Candler, NC; and sister and brother-in-law, Ruth D. and Fletcher D. Thompson of Spartanburg, SC; 12 nieces and nephews and 20 great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Michael Kempson DeLoache and a sister, Mary Susan DeLoache.

A graveside service will be conducted at Travis Park Cemetery in Saluda, SC on Saturday, November 13, 2004 at 3:00 pm. Arrangements are with Hall-Wynne Funeral Service of Durham and Ramey Funeral Home of Saluda, SC.

Naomi Fuller

NEWBERRY — Services for Naomi Fuller, 2 p.m. Sunday at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses; burial: Newberry Memorial Gardens. F.B. Pratt & Son Funeral Home is in charge. Born in Newberry County to John and Nina Maffett Fuller, she died Nov. 9, 2004. Surviving: children, Dorothy Young, Ojetta, Jackie Fuller, Barbara Foulks, Linda Herbert, Juanita Sanders, Kathy Johnson, Jammie Baxter; sister; more.

Louis Green

BURTON — Services for Louis Green, 49, 2 p.m. Saturday (visitation 7-8 tonight)at Bostick Funeral Home, Ridgeland; burial: Taylor Cemetery. Born in Bluffton to Charles Graham and Neely Chisolm, he died Nov. 8, 2004. Oscar Harrison

LAURENS — Services for Oscar V. Harrison, 82, widower of Tempie Wasson Harrison, 2 p.m. Saturday: Friendship Presbyterian Church Cemetery; visitation 7-8:30 tonight: Kennedy Mortuary. Born in Greenwood to Lester and Ada Vandiver Harrison, he died Nov. 11, 2004. Surviving: daughter, Margaret Powell; siblings, Jack Harrison, Elizabeth Neumberg, Melda Wakefield, Ethelese Steele, Eleanor Lollis.

Morris Milligan

ST. MATTHEWS — Services for Morris Milligan will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at New Jerusalem Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation is 7-8 tonight at Bostick-Tompkins Funeral Home. Born in Chester, Pa., to Henry and Gertrude P. Milligan, he died November 10, 2004. Surviving are his wife, Carrie G. Milligan; 13 children; two brothers; two sisters; uncles, aunts and a host of grandchildren.

Verlie Moore

LAKE CITY — Services for Verlie Ann G. Moore, 87, widow of Frank Moore Jr., 2:30 pm today: East Lake City Believers Holiness Church; burial: Rest Lawn Memorial Park. Samuels & Richardson Funeral Home is in charge. Born in Williamsburg Co. to David and Candice F. Graham, she died Nov. 7, 2004. Surviving: adopted sons, Calvin Moore, Nathaniel Wilson; grands, Kendra, Chelsea, Tracey Wilson.

Monica Myers

SPRINGFIELD — Services for Monica B. Myers will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Bostick-Tompkins Funeral Home with burial in Serenity Memorial Gardens. Born in Jacksonville, Fla., to Johnnie and Wilbur Jane Bennett, she died November 10, 2004. Surviving: sons, Timothy and David Myers; parents; 6 brothers; 4 sisters; 1 granddaughter; devoted friend, Ronnie Bush.

Mary Sawyer

MULLINS — Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Herring Sawyer, 94, widow of Lanneau M. Sawyer, died Friday, November 12, 2004, in Mullins Nursing Center after an illness.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, November 14, 2004, at the Chapel of Cox-Collins Funeral Home, with the Rev. James Goudelock and the Rev. Jim Kirkland officiating. Burial will follow in McMillan Cemetery, directed by Cox-Collins Funeral Home.

Mrs. Sawyer was born May 13, 1910, in Dillon County, a daughter of the late Addison and Annie Herring Herring. She was a homemaker and a member of Fork Baptist Church.

Surviving Mrs. Sawyer are: 2 sons, Emerson Sawyer and his wife Eveleigh of Mullins and Franklin Sawyer of Mullins; 3 daughters, Ruby S. Newell of Fork, Irene S. Fink and her husband Chuck of Hollywood, Md. and Janet S. Nicholson and her husband Horace of Mullins; a daughter-in-law, Lois Sawyer of Mullins; and 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.

Mrs. Sawyer was predeceased by a son, Kenneth C. Sawyer and a son-in-law, James A. “Jim” Newell.

Memorials may be made to Fork Baptist Church, P.O. Box 44, Fork, SC 29543.

Visitation will be held Saturday evening from 6 til 8 P.M. at Cox-Collins Funeral Home.

Annie Bray

FAIRMONT, N.C. — Mrs. Annie Mayers Bray, 89, of 302 Woodhue Street, Fairmont, N.C., died Wednesday, November 10, 2004, in Southeastern Reg. Med. Center, Lumberton, N.C. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Floyd Funeral Services’ Chapel officiated by the Rev. Ed Wilcox. Burial will be in Fairmont Cemetery, Fairmont.

Surviving are son and spouse, Morris and Debora Bray of Raleigh; daughter and husband, Carol and Ed Arnette of N. Myrtle Beach, SC; sisters, Edith Rogers of Mullins, SC, Gladys Long of Barnwell, SC, Inez Gass of Hendersonville, Catherine Morris of Columbia, SC; 5 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Bray was preceded in death by her husband, L.B. “Barney” Bray.

The family will receive friends at her home, 302 Woodhue St., Fairmont.

Doris Helms

DARLINGTON — Doris Blackman Helms, widow of Hazel B. Helms, passed away on Thursday, November 11, 2004, as the result of an automobile accident. She was the daughter of the late R.A. Blackman, Sr. and Maude Hatchell Blackman Jordan. She was born in Darlington County on August 6, 1923.

Visitation will be held Saturday, November 13, 2004, at Belk Funeral Home from 6-8 pm. Services will be held at Central Baptist Church in Darlington on Sunday, November 14, 2004, at 3:00 pm officiated by Rev. Tim Coker and Pastor Frankie Tanner. Interment to follow at the Mechanicsville Baptist Church Cemetery.

Surviving Mama Doris are five children, Bobby J. (Marie) Helms of Florence, Anne H. (Ray, Sr.) Graham, Jane H. (Ken) Gunter, Alice H. (Gary) James and Hazel Frank Helms, all of Darlington. Grandchildren: Margarita H. (Steve) Fuller and Jennifer H. (Joe) Riddle of Darlington, Ray J. (Beth) Graham, Jr. of Florence, Kent Gunter of Murrells Inlet, Kyle (Beth) Gunter of Florence, Kacy Gunter of Darlington and Charity G. (Will) Adams of Darlington. Step-grandchildren: David Scott (Angie) Marlowe of Darlington and Julie (Dean) Byrd of Sumter. Great-grandchildren: Linsey and Jasi Fuller of Darlington, Elizabeth, Austin and Adam Graham and Riley Gunter of Florence, Drake & Jacob Adams and Alex & Candice Marlowe of Darlington, Graham Byrd of Sumter and Anna & Sarah Ashley Graham of Erie, PA. Siblings: Robert A. (Evelyn) Blackman, Jr. of Darlington, Jean B. Spivey of Dalzell, Don H. (Marie) Blackman of Darlington, and Ned J. (Phyllis) Blackman of Hartsville. Brother and Sister in love: Sammie D. (Clara) Wilhite of Little Rock, AK, and Doris H. (John) Carriker of Wisconsin. Special fishing friends: Katherine Bright and Rothie Altman.

Mama Doris will be missed by a host of friends to include those in the Robert Clyde Sunday School Class and Kings Sunshine Tour Group. She retired from Dixie Cup after 30-plus years of service. Her family and friends will miss those wonderful coconut and caramel cakes. The many future great-grands are certain to miss those beautiful handmade quilts. One of God’s most special gifts to Mama Doris was her love for children which she so generously shared with the babies in the Mechanicsville Baptist Church Nursery before moving her membership to Central Baptist Church.

Chosen for a special labor of love as pallbearers are grandsons, Ray Graham, Jr., Kent Gunter, Kyle Gunter, Kacy Gunter, Steve Fuller and Will Adams.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the building funds of either Central Baptist Church of Mechanicsville Baptist Church.

Judge Hemrick Salley Sr.

SALLEY — Judge Hemrick N. Salley, Sr., 101, of Salley, SC, died Nov. 12. He was the son of the late Francis E. Salley, Sr. and Ella Phillips of Salley. Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. at Salley Baptist Church with the Rev. Henry Cooper officiating. Interment will follow in the Oak View Cemetery.

Judge Salley was a member of the SAR, U.S.C., The Peace Offices Association, The Salley Baptist Church, The Dean Swamp Masonic Lodge, and The Green Swamp Hunting Club. He served for 35 years as Manager of the Salley Gin & Fertilizer Co. He then worked with the Southern RR. He was a Builder and Contractor, and Aiken County Judge for 25 years. He was a large farmer and also was a Wind Storm and Hail Cotton Adjuster.

He was predeceased by his wife, Ena Boylston Salley.

Mr. Salley is survived by his son, Hemrick N. Salley, Jr. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Old Salley School Museum, P.O. Box 441, Salley, SC 29137 or to Hitchcock Rehabilitation Center, 690 Medical Park Dr., Aiken, SC 29802.

The family will receive friends on Saturday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the residence of the late Mr. Henrick N. Salley, Sr., 328 Walnut St., Salley, SC.

Perry Mosley

KERSHAW — Mr. Perry Mosley, 95, passed away Thursday, November 11, 2004. Mr. Mosley was born February 23, 1919, in Bethune, a son of the late Mr. Frank Mosely and Mrs. Lizzie Small Mosley. Mr. Mosley was a member of the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church and worked as a security guard for 20 years.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 13, 2004, at I 3:00 p.m. from the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church by the Rev. Charles Parrott and the Rev. Jimmy Baker. Burial will be in the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Mosley is survived by a son, Mr. John R. Portman and his wife Diane of Kershaw; two daughters, Mrs. Virgie Hinson and her husband Danny of Kershaw and Mrs. Annie Moseley and her husband Otis of Heath Springs; a sister, Mrs. Sara McManus of Lancaster; 17 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; and 7 great great grandchildren. Mr. Mosely was preceded in death by four brothers, Ranzy Mosley, Roy Mosley, Jack Mosley, and L.J. Mosley, and three sisters, Stella George, Nandy Thompson, and Lillian Snipes.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Kershaw County Hospice, 2001 West Dekalb Street, Camden, SC 29020.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Friday, November 12, 2004 at the Cauthen Funeral Home, Kershaw Chapel and other times at the home, 2171 John Munn Road, Kershaw.

Ms. Young died November 9, 2004. She was a housewife. Surviving: son, Freddie Young; grandchild reared in the home, Belinda Copeland; four other grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; others.
