Sidney B. Hare Jr.
SALUDA — Sidney B. Hare Jr., 81, of Saluda, husband of Dora DeLoache Hare, died Saturday, Oct. 19, 2002.
Born in Saluda County, he was a son of the late Sidney Bowles Hare Sr. and Iva Crout Hare. He served with the Eighth Air Force during World War II, he was a graduate of Newberry College, owner and operator of The Men’s Shop during 1950 and retired employee of Jefferson Pilot Insurance Company. He served on the Board of Trustees of the Newberry-Saluda Regional Library, the Board of Directors of the Saluda County Nursing Center and the Saluda County Chamber of Commerce and served three terms as Saluda County Treasurer. He was a member of The American Legion and past governor of District 32A of the Lions Club. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant Lutheran Church, where he served as Sunday School Teacher and president of the congregation.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Mary Beth of Baltimore; two sons, James Sidney (Robin) Hare of Mars Hill, N.C. and John Herman (Patricia) Hare of Columbia; two sisters, Elnora Gunter of Saluda and Mary Ruth Stockman of Batesburg; and four granddaughters.
Memorial services are 11 a.m. Monday at Mt. Pleasant Lutheran Church.
Visitation is after the memorial services.
Memorials may be made to Mt. Pleasant Lutheran Church or to the Saluda County Nursing Center.

Grace Helander
CHARLESTON — Grace H. Helander of Charleston died Friday, October 18th in a hospital in Greenwood, SC.
Born in Valdosta, GA to the late Alonzo and Eva Dugid Holmes. She was predeceased by her first husband, Henry V. Helander and her second husband, Hutson M. Helander.
Surviving Mrs. Helander are her two daughters, Florence Forbes and her husband Robin of Manistee, Michigan, and Vickie Kelley of Greenwood, SC. Surviving also are six grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends 6-8 PM Monday, October 21st at McAlister-Smith Downtown Chapel.
Funeral services will be 11AM Tuesday, October 22nd at the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in Live Oak Memorial Gardens.

Ann McCune
Ann Camp McCune, 55, resident of 106 Devon Court, wife of W. Chris McCune, Jr., died October 18, 2002 at her home.
Born in Greenwood County, June 22, 1947, she was a daughter of the late W. Hardin and Willie Garren Camp. She was a 1965 graduate of Greenwood High School and was a graduate of Greenwood College of Commerce. She was employed by Greenwood School District #50 as a teacher assistant at Mathews Elementary School.
A member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, she was also a member of the Women’s Club of the church and was a member of the church choir. She was a charter member of The Supper Club and was a recipient of the “Golden Apple Award” which is presented by Television Channel 4 for services and dedication in education.
Surviving in addition to her husband of the home are a daughter, Elizabeth Ann McCune of Statesville, NC, two sons, W.C. “Chip” McCune, III and wife Miranda C. McCune of Summerville and John Paul McCune of Lake Wylie. A brother, William G. “Bill” and wife Denise Camp of Greenwood. A sister, Jennie C. and husband Keith Hudgins of Columbia.
Mrs. McCune was predeceased by a brother, Joe H. McCune.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11 AM Monday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with Rev. Father Richard Harris and Abbot Placid Solari, OSB, officiating.
Burial will be in Oakbrook Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be nephews Joe Camp, Jr., Grant Camp, Paul Camp, Andrew Camp, David Camp, Bill Camp, Michael Camp, Thomas Hudgins, and Bobby Kelleher.
Honorary escort will be Curtis Miles, Ken Bennett, James Lawton and Eddie Bartless.
The body is at Blyth Funeral Home where a Christian Wake Service will be conducted at 7 PM Sunday evening.
The family is at the home in Wellington Green and will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday evening immediately following the Wake Service.

John C. Stephens Sr.
John Cannon Stephens Sr., 83, of 214 Hitching Post Road, husband of Dorothy Dorsey Stephens, died Friday, Oct. 18, 2002 at his home.
Born in Athens, Ga., he was a son of the late Alexander and Lula Sosbee Stephens. He was a World War II Army veteran and a retired employee of the Graniteville Company, Townsend Division. He was a member of the New Market Baptist Church and the Sr. Men’s Sunday School Class.
Survivors include his wife of the home; three daughters, Shirley Eustace of Walterboro, Lynn Cockrell of Greenwood and Pam Jones of Aiken; a son, John C. Stephens Jr. of Greenwood; two sisters, Gertrude Fields and Delores Horne, both of Athens; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services are 11 a.m. Monday at Harley Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Buddy Wiles. Burial is in Oakbrook Memorial Park.
Pallbearers are Ronald Eustace, Dewey Mark Eustace, John Stephens III, Chris Stephens, Travis Stephens, Jeff Cockrell, Chuck Jones and Calvin Woods.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.

Annette Timms Tyler
Margaret Annette Timms Turner Tyler, 60, of 116 Satcher Drive, wife of Danny Wayne Tyler, died Friday, October 18, 2002 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Greenwood; a daughter of the late George Aiken and Myrtle Frances White Timms. She was manager at Piercing Pagoda Zales Company at Cross Creek Mall. She was a member of Greenville Presbyterian Church and attended Durst Ave. Church of God.
Surviving in addition to her husband of the home are three daughters Subrina Kim Stone of Goldsboro North Carolina, Dody Geneine Lovett of Greenwood, Mona Lee Emily of Ninety Six; a son Tony Neal Turner of Greenwood; a grandson raised in the home, Thomas Christopher “Speedy” Seawright of Greenwood; a stepson Christopher Tyler of Greenwood; a stepdaughter Amy Ruth Tyler of Greenwood; two sisters Myrtle Frances Timms of Shoals Junction and Eleanor Ruth Dobbins of Greenwood; two brothers Alvin Eugene and George Samuel “Cotton” Timms both of Shoals Junction; grandchildren Jessica Cheri Fleming, Kristina Maria Seawright, Deidre Geneine Taylor and Kristen Noel Lovett all of Greenwood, Michael Kirby Stone Jr. of Abbeville, Justin Dwight and Carime Nickole Emily both of Ninety Six, Corey Neal Turner of Atlanta Ga., Kacen Andrew Turner of Ninety Six, Wesley Allen Fleming of Due West, Jimma Chyenne of Greenwood and Heather of Virginia.
Services will be 2:00 pm Monday at Harley Funeral Home Chapel with the Bishop Wallace Purvis, Rev. Robin Fisher, and Mr. Paul Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in Oakbrook Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be John Trail, David Noffz, John Pressley Tyler, Chris Tyler, Jim Stevens, and Darrell Shinall. Honorary escorts will be Wayne Moore, Ahsan “Andy” Abedi, Keith Carrouth, Marvin Stennett, Marshall Willis, Dr. Greg Mappin, Jamie Tims, Dale Tims, Danny Tims, Robert Stephenson, David Stephenson, and Michael Stephenson.
The body is at Harley Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Sunday night from 7:00 until 9:00 pm.

Carlton G. Coates
CLINTON — Carlton George Coates, 70, of Highway 72, died Saturday, Oct. 19, 2002 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Cross Hill, he was a son of the late John Calhoun Coates and Mattie Goodman Coates Turner. He was an Army veteran, a retired landscaper, a member of PVA of Augusta, Ga., and VFW No. 3354. He was a member of Community Baptist Church, Clinton.
Survivors include two daughters, Pam Williams of Covington, Ga. and Pat Grissinger of Easley; a sister, Sara C. Bolt of Laurens; a brother, Paul R. Coates of Gray Court; two grandsons and a granddaughter.
Services are 11 a.m. today at Community Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Jeff O’Dell. Burial is in Bethabara Baptist Church Cemetery, Cross Hill.
Visitation is immediately after the service.
The family is at the home of a nephew, Charles W. Coates Jr., 121 Woodview Drive, Laurens.

Leroy Cole
NINETY SIX — Leroy Cole, age 89 and formerly of Whitmire and Camden died Oct. 19th in the Newberry County Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Goldsville, S.C. and was a son of the late Tillman W. and Jeannie Carpenter Cole. Mr. Cole was a retired employee of Dupont, May Plant in Lugoff, was of the Protestant Faith and was a WWII veteran.
Surviving are his wife, Thelma Gilliam Cole; two daughters, Connie Hicks of Ninety-Six, Sandra Raynovic of Wasilla, Alaska; one sister, Louise Brank of Greer; five grandchildren, E.A. Lawing, Jr. of Lincolnton, NC, Kenneth Dale Lawing of Charlotte, NC, Dawn L. Taylor of Chester, Samuel G. Raynovic, III of Anchorage, Alaska, Michael Roy Raynovic of Wasilla, Alaska; four great grandchildren, Michelle Taylor, Ashley Bailey, Kimberly Lawing, Jonathan Raynovic.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, Oct. 22nd at 3:00 p.m. in the Gray Funeral Home Chapel of Whitmire with burial in the Whitmire Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
The family will be at the home of his daughter, Connie Hicks, 201 Whitten Ave., Ninety-Six, S.C.

GRAY COURT — Linda Kay Childers Hall, 55, of 4444 Georgia Road, died Sunday, Oct. 20, 2002, at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
Born in Atlanta, she was a daughter of the late Frank Joe and Nola Roxanne Dilbeck Childers. She was formerly a certified nursing assistant with Wesley Commons, National Health Care and Eden Gardens, Greenwood. She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include two daughters, Patricia A. Jenkins of the home and Shirley R. Fuller of Greenwood; a son, Terry J. Smith of Albany, Ga.; two brothers, Eddie H. Childers of Gray Court and Bill Childers of Sterling Heights, Mich.; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at Harley Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Joe Chapman. Burial is in Oakbrook Memorial Park.
Pallbearers are Ben Jenkins, Joey Chavis, Terry Smith, Chris Jenkins, Jeff Burgess and Joe Tolis. Honorary escorts are friends from Wesley Commons.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.
The family is at the home and at the home of a daughter, Shirley R. Fuller, 1010 Grace Street, The Villas Apt. 2-D, Greenwood.

Maxie E. Horne
Maxie Elbert Horne, 69, of 128 Baldwin Road, died Sunday, Oct. 20, 2002 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Edgefield County, he was a son of the late Henry Holland and Pauline Dorn Horne. He was a retired employee of Greenwood Mills Mathews Plant, where he worked for 43 years. He attended the Marshall Road Church of God.
Survivors include three sons, Michael E. Horne of Ninety Six and Tony and Stevie Horne, both of Saluda; two daughters, Shirley Bridges and Norma J. Taylor, both of Greenwood; a sister, Mamie Lee Turner of Greenwood; a brother, Paul E. Horne of Greenwood; 15 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Harley Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Eugene Thrasher. Burial is in Oakbrook Memorial Park.
Pallbearers are Michael Horne, Tony Horne, Stevie Horne, Robert Turner, John S. Bryan Jr. and Junior Turner.
Visitation is from 7-9 Tuesday at the funeral home.
The family is at the Whitehall Church of God, 2619 Hwy. 221 S., Greenwood, where a dinner will be served at noon Tuesday for family and friends.

William Thompson
MCCORMICK — William Thompson, 74, of McCormick, husband of Jean Warwick Thompson, died Saturday, Oct. 19, 2002.
Born in Athens, Ga., he was a son of the late Paul Lee and Edna Blanch Dooley Thompson. He attended Athens High School, the University of Georgia and graduated from the LSU School of Banking of the South. He was employed with Wachovia Bank for more than 35 years. He was a member of the McCormick First Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Terri Nalbandian; three sons, Robert William and Edward Paul Thompson, both of Lawrenceville, Ga. and Gregory Harold Thompson of Madison, Ga.; and five grandchildren.
Services are 3 p.m. Tuesday at Bernstein Funeral Home, Athens, conducted by the Rev. Don Clendaniel.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.

Survivors include his wife of the home; stepmother, Mary Etta Williams of Ninety Six; two sons, David Williams Jr. and Antonia Yabousky Williams, both of Greenwood; seven daughters, Priscilla M. Williams, Melissa E. Williams, Linda F. Williams and Wanda K. Williams, all of Greenwood, Daisy Williams Bowser of Anchorage, Alaska, Cheryl D. Thompson of Ninety Six and Cherry D.
Williams of the home; two brothers, the Rev. John Frank Williams of Greenwood and Henry Williams of Elyria, Ohio; two sisters, Betty Jean Williams of Greenwood and Amelia Odell Elmore of Queens, N.Y.; and 18 grandchildren, two reared in the home, LaTonya Williams and Spencer Wright Jr.
