CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Laila Imani Hampton, infant daughter of Krystle Hampton, died Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002 at the Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
Survivors include her mother of McCormick; grandparents, Soloman and Patricia Dowtin Hampton of McCormick; and maternal great-grandmother, Mrs. Willie Dowtin of McCormick.
Graveside services are 11 a.m. Friday at Zion Chapel A.M.E. Church Cemetery, McCormick, conducted by the Rev. James W. Price.
The family is at her grandparents’ home, Route 1, Highway 221 South, McCormick.
Walker Funeral Home, McCormick, is in charge.

Gladys Bass
DONALDS — Gladys Smith Bass, 97, of 868 Bowie Road, widow of William Jesse Bass, died Friday, Nov. 15, 2002, at Self Regional Medical Center in Greenwood.
Born in Ludowici, Ga., she was a daughter of the late Thomas Arthur and Corine Hodge Smith. She retired as a nurse’s aid from Mariona Nursing Home in North Augusta. Formerly of Wheeless Road, Augusta, she had lived in Donalds since 1997 and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Greenwood.
Survivors include a daughter, Dannie Sanders, with whom she made her home; a son, William T. Bass of Keysville, Ga.; three sisters, Jewel Slater of Bloomingdale, Ga., Evelyn Dunham of Jessup, Ga., and Marguerite Feener of Jacksonville, Fla.; a brother, Thomas Monroe Smith of Lakeland, Ga.; 13 grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, 13 step-great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren and four step-great-great-grandchildren. Services are 11 a.m. Monday at Calvary Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. Joe Chapman and Bob Davis. The body will be placed in the church at 10. Burial is 3 p.m. in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Augusta.
Pallbearers are Robert Lightsey, Larry Lightsey, Curtis Bass, Keith Bass, Donald Steedley and Omer Steedley Jr.
Visitation is 7-9 Sunday at Blyth Funeral Home.
The family is at the home.

Emily Creswell
McCORMICK — Emily Brittain Creswell, 73, widow of Charles Edward Creswell, died Thursday, Nov. 14, 2002, at McCormick Health Care.
Born in Columbia, she was a daughter of the late George T. and Cleo McCloud Brittain. She worked at McCormick Mills and Greenwood Mills and was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church in McCormick.
Survivors include a son, Charlie George Creswell of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and a grandson. Services are 4 p.m. Sunday at Blyth Funeral Home, conducted by Father Marreddy. Burial is in Troy Cemetery.
Visitation is 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Good Shepherd Catholic Church, P.O. Box 1468, McCormick, SC 29835.

Theo Frede
HODGES — Theo Shirley Frede, 78, of 4329 Main St., died Friday, Nov. 15, 2002, at Self Regional Medical Center in Greenwood.
A daughter of the late Otto and Mildred Callie Shirley, she was twice married, first to the late Clifford O. Taylor and second to the late Doug Frede. She was a retired manager of the former Cato’s store in Abbeville. She was of the Episcopal faith and attended Trinity Episcopal Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Jo Hall of Valyermo, Calif., and Destiny Jones of Hodges; a son, Nick Frede of Atlanta; two brothers, Ozzie Shirley of Sun City, Fla., and Lee Shirley of Orlando, Fla.; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services are 2 p.m. Sunday at Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home. Burial is at a later date.
Visitation is 2-3 today at the funeral home.
The family is at the home of Mrs. Richard (Destiny) Jones, 5319 Highway 185.

Lula Mae Leach
CALHOUN FALLS — Lula Mae Leach, 78, formerly of 115 Seneca Circle, died Friday, Nov. 15, 2002, at Nancy Hart Nursing Center in Elberton, Ga.
Born in Calhoun Falls, she was a daughter of the late Sammie Neal and Nancy Lewis Leach. She was a homemaker and a member of Mount Olive Church of God Holiness.
She was the last member of her immediate family.
The family is at the home of Annie Ruth Lewis, 126 Seneca Circle.
Services will be announced by Friendly Funeral Home.

Lena Norris
Lena Wilson Norris, 91, of 1112 Jefferson St., widow of W.D. Norris, died Friday, Nov. 15, 2002, in Chesapeake, Va.
Services will be announced by Blyth Funeral Home.

Sara Summer
NINETY SIX — Sara Bishop Summer, 81, resident of 217 Frazier Road, widow of Martin Luther Summer, died November 15, 2002, at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Laurens County, February 14, 1921, she was a daughter of the late William Wicker and Nina Crowder Bishop. She was retired from Greenwood Mills - Sloan Plant and was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and the Wesleyan Sunday School Class of the church.
Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Boyce (Gwendolyn) Attaway, B. Diane Summer, Mrs. Dale (Gail) Wood, Mrs. Carroll (Martie) Bryant and Mrs. Dale (Susan) Hill, all of Ninety Six; a brother, Harold Bishop of Mountville; two sisters, Virginia McCarson and Betty McCarson, both of Joanna; nine grandchildren, Buddy Attaway, Brian Attaway, Dawn Rhodes, Alysia Branham, Shane Wood, Audra Wood, Katie Bryant, Mary Ann Bryant and Daniel Hill; four great-grandchildren, Courtney Attaway, Heather Rhodes, Brooklyn Rhodes and Lauren Rhodes.
Mrs. Summer was predeceased by two brothers, Eugene Bishop and Winfield Bishop and one sister, Mary Frances Burbage.
Funeral services will be conducted 3 PM Sunday at St. Paul United Methodist Church with Rev. Ben Herlong officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Paul Johnson, Ned Johnson, Bill Bishop, Keith Burbage, Richard Shealy, Dr. Michael Bryant.
The body is at Blyth Funeral Home and will be placed in the church at 2 PM Sunday.
The family is at the home of Gwendolyn and Boyce Attaway, 3403 Golf Course Road, Ninety Six and will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 9 Saturday evening.
Memorials may be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church, 301 Cambridge Street, Ninety Six, SC 29666.

Kathy Emily Worley
ELBERTON, Ga. — Kathy Emily Worley, 49, of 2688 Calhoun Falls Highway, died Thursday, Nov. 14, 2002, at Elbert Memorial Hospital.
Born in Elbert County, she was a daughter of the late Elbert L. and Emily Adams Worley and was of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Charles (Charlotte W.) Williams of Abbeville, and a brother, Denver E. Worley of Elberton.
Services are 3 p.m. Sunday at Berry Funeral Home, conducted by Dr. Wallace E. Wheeles and the Rev. Adrin Bell. Burial is in Forest Hills Memorial Park.
Visitation is 1:30-3 Sunday at the funeral home.
The family is at the home of Denver and Mary Ann Worley, 829 Cardial Drive.

Emma L. Burton
HODGES — Emma Lucille Burton, 62, of 204 Pansy Road, died Saturday, Nov. 16, 2002 at Self Regional Medical Center in Greenwood.
Born in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of the late Warzine “Dank” and Rosa Lee Minor Burton. She was a retired employee of Schlumberger and a member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church.
She was a secretary of the Sunday school and the Minority Health Coalition, a member of the Missionary Society, Senior Gospel Chorus, Volunteer Hospice, Hodges Volunteer Fire Department, AARP, Daughters of the Elks and Senior Citizens.
Survivors include a son, Toney Burton of Hodges; a sister, Betty Burton of Cokesbury and a grandchild reared in the home, Jamar Derel Winkfield Burton.
The family is at the home.
Services will be announced by Percival-Tompkins Funeral Home, Greenwood.

Bill Campbell
ABBEVILLE — William “Bill” Campbell, 93, formerly of 936 Sheep Leg Road, widower of Cara Ashley Campbell, died Friday, Nov. 15, 2002, at National Health Care, Clinton.
Born in Abbeville County, he was a son of the late William T. “Will” and Anna Rosa Ware Campbell. He was retired from the Shipping and Receiving Dept. of Abbeville Mills Milliken Plant and was a member of Little Mountain Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include a son, Billy Joe Campbell of Abbeville; three daughters, Rosa Anna Gable of Donalds, Sylvia Jean Smith and Linda Phillips, both of Honea Path; two half-sisters, Rosa Finley of Columbia and Mary Ellen Hall of Ware Shoals; nine grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services are 11 a.m. Monday at The Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home. Burial is in Little Mountain Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.
The family is at the home of his son, Billy Joe Campbell, 510 Marshall Ave.

Lena Wilson Norris, 91, of 1112 Jefferson St. and 657 Willow Bend Drive, Chesapeake, Va., widow of William D. “Shorty” Norris, died Friday, Nov. 15, 2002 in Chesapeake.
Born in Commerce, Ga., she was a daughter of the late John Daniel and Addie Fields Wilson. She was a retired employee of Greenwood Mills Plant No. 5 and a member of the Mary Pinckney Ouzts Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a member of South Main Street Baptist Church and the Amona Sunday School Class of the church.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Johnny L. (Patsy) Evans of the home in Chesapeake; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services are 2 p.m. Monday at Blyth Funeral Home, conducted by the Revs. Richard McWhite and Harry Vanderford. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are Dr. Gerald Holsonback, Benjie Norris, Brian Evans, John C. Evans and Kenney Guthrie.
Visitation is from 5-7 tonight at the funeral home.
The family is at the home on Jefferson Street.

James Shirley
HODGES — James Albert Shirley, 49, of 4717 Hwy. 246 N., husband of Barbara Hodges Shirley, died Friday, Nov. 15, 2002, at his home.
Born in Greenwood County, he was a son of Mavis Davenport Shirley and the late Albert Shirley.
He worked at Greenwood Mills Durst Plant for 25 years and was a member of New Life Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Survivors include his wife of the home; his mother and step-father, Allen Shirley of Hodges; two sons, Joseph “Joey” Shirley of Ninety Six and Joshua “Josh” Shirley of Hodges; two step-daughters, Mrs. Clyde (Judy) Stone of Hodges and Mrs. Russ (Angie) Harrison of Greenwood; a sister, Mrs. Billy (Lynn) Allen of Hodges; three brothers, Larry Shirley, Tom Shirley and Barry Shirley, all of Hodges; three grandchildren and four step-grandchildren.
Services are 2 p.m. today at New Life Pentecostal Holiness Church, conducted by Dr. Phillip Morris and the Rev. Charles Caldwell. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are Arthur Cox, Mike Godfrey, Jerry “Rip” Shirley, Tim Ellenberg, Billy Butler, Ray Farmer, James Johnson, Merrill Doolittle, Keith Hodges and David Knight.
Honorary escorts will be Terry “Bird” Shirley, Dorton Shirley, Rondey Shirley, Mike Shirley, Ray Shirley, Ronnie Sprouse, Randy Riser, Mark Riser, Perry Davenport, Otto McDonald Tony Dorn, Frank “Buddy” Shirley Jr., Raymond Shirley, Claude Shirley and Scott Shirley.
The family is at the home and at the home of Billy and Lynn Allen, 4523 Main Street, Hodges.
