NINETY SIX — Lance O’Neal Capps, infant son of Aaron Lance and Wanda Jean Whatley Capps, died Thursday, Nov. 28, 2002.
Survivors include his parents of the home; maternal grandparents, Neal and Irene Whatley of Greenwood; paternal grandparents, Norman and Gwynne Capps of Ninety Six; maternal great-grandparents, Bill and Mary Whatley of Greenwood and Betty Bratcher of Greenwood; paternal great-grandmother, Mildred Capps of Ninety Six; and paternal great-grandfather, Floyd Sutherland of Greenwood.
Graveside services are 11 a.m. today at First Damascus Baptist Church, Greenwood, conducted by the Rev. Billy Reynolds.
The family is at the home, 156 Country Pond Road.
Memorials may be made to Harley Funeral Home, c/o Lance Capps, P.O. Box 777, Greenwood, SC 29648.

Daniel Griffin
NINETY SIX — Services for Daniel “Boone” Griffin, of 110 Wilson Bridge Road, are 2 p.m. Monday at Bethlehem Baptist Church, Ninety Six, conducted by the Rev. J.W. Price, assisted by the Revs. W.W. Henderson Jr. and Willie Key. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Burial is in Ninety Six Community Cemetery.
Pallbearers are brothers.
Flower bearers are sisters and sisters-in-law.
Visitation if from 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the home and at the home of Cathy Pearson, 102 Porter Drive, Ninety Six.

Dick Stewart
NINETY SIX — John Richard “Dick” Stewart, 78, of 103 Cumberland Ct., husband of Dorothy Lee Ivester Stewart, died Friday, November 29, 2002 at Richard Campbell Nursing Home, Anderson, SC.
Born in Greenwood, he was a son of the late John Riddle and Correne Sanders Stewart. He was a retired airline pilot with Northwest Airlines and a US Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Lions Club and St. Paul United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the Jeff Coat Bible Class.
Surviving in addition to his wife of the home; are a daughter, Holly S. Moss of Greenwood; a son John Stewart Jr. of Thomaston, GA; two sisters, Virges Lyle of Greenwood and Rachel Chaney of Fair Play; two grandchildren, Molly Brooks Chambers of Atlanta, GA and Melissa Franklin of Little Mountain, SC; three best friends, Senator John Drummond, Bill Gardner, and Frank Black, all of Ninety Six.
Services will be 3:00 p.m. Saturday at the Harley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ben Herlong and the Rev. Kirk Hendricks officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Darrow Webb, Lee Ivester, Erik Webb, Andy Lyle, Randy Smith, and Ernie Lyle.
Honorary escort will be members of the Jeff Coat Bible Class of St. Paul United Methodist Church.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 2 to 3 pm.
Memorials may be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church building fund, 301 N. Cambridge Street, Ninety Six, SC 29666.
The family is at the home.

Mildred Wells
McCORMICK — Services for Mildred Wells are 2 p.m. Sunday at Pine Grove A.M.E. Church, Plum Branch, conducted by the Rev. W.O. Vance, pastor and the Rev. Valerie P. Gilchrist. The body will be placed in the church at 1. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers are church officers, and church ushers are flower bearers.
The family is at the home, 308 Wall Road.
Walker Funeral Home is in charge.

Darroyl Wimmes
Darroyl Wimmes, 48, of 241 ½ Griffin St., died Friday, Nov. 29, 2002.
Born in Greenwood, he was a son of Joel and Bernice Waller Wimmes. He attended Brewer and Greenwood High School, was a former employee of Park Davis and Greenwood Plating Company and was a former member of the National Guard. He was a member of Mt. Pisagh AME Church, Greenwood.
Survivors include his mother and father; a daughter, Lasheka Nicole Wimmes of Greenwood; a brother, Glenn (Barbara) Wimmes of Greenwood; three sisters, Mrs. Thomas (JoAnn) Vance of San Diego, Mrs. Jesse (Cheryl) Adams and Crystal Wimmes, both of Greenwood.
The family is at the home of his parents, 241 Griffin St, Greenwood.
Services will be announced by Parks Funeral Home.

George F. Callahan
ROCHESTER, N.Y. — George Fred Callahan, 61, husband of Josella Best Callahan, died Thursday, Nov. 14, 2002 in Rochester. Born in McCormick, S.C., he was a son of the late James “Whit” and Lucinda Bowie Callahan. He was a graduate of Mims High School, McCormick, and an Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife of New York; three daughters, Monica, Kelly and Charnessa; six sons, Jason, De-Shawn, Frederick, Shawn, Tyrone and Jerome; two sisters, Mattie Williams of Greenwood, S.C., and Janice Callahan of Mount Carmel, S.C.; and a brother, Willie Callahan of Spencer Port.
Services were Friday, Nov. 22, at Holy City Church of God Holiness, Rochester.

Cheryl Pattom
BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Cheryl Pattom, 44, of 492 Ashford St., died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002 at a local hospital.
The family is at the home of her grandmother, Lillian Paul, 105 Brown St., Abbeville, S.C.
Services will be announced by Abbeville and White Mortuary, Abbeville.

Bennie Mae Ross
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Bennie Mae Ross, 79, widow of Columbus Pussum Ross Sr., formerly of Greenwood, S.C., died Sunday, Nov. 24, 2002 in Washington .
Born in Greenwood, she was a daughter of the late Eugenia Rapp and a member of Second Damascus Baptist Church, Greenwood.
Survivors include a son, Columbus Ross Jr. of Washington , D.C.; two brothers, Jesse Rapp and Joseph Rapp, both of Greenwood; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at Robert G. Masson Funeral Home, 1661 Good Hope Road S.E.

Azilee Seymour, 100
Miss Azilee Seymour, 100, formerly of Columbia, died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002 at Abbeville Nursing Home.
Born in Elberton, Ga., she was a daughter of the late William Thomas and Iona Phelps Seymour. She graduated from the South Caroline State Hospital of Nursing and retired from the South Carolina State Hospital. Living in Greenwood since 1966, she was employed by the Greenwood Senior Center and was a member of the Opel Club and Hodges Senior Citizens. She had attended Greenwood Wesleyan Methodist Church.
The last survivor of her immediate family, survivors include nieces and nephews.
Graveside services are 3 p.m. today in Greenwood Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Rev. James Patterson.
Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

James Wells
James Wells, 90, of Magnolia Manor, formerly of 334 Pinehurst Drive, died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Greenwood County, he was a son of the late John Ossie and Florence Williams Wells. He was a former carpenter and a member of Jacob Chapel Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sons, Matthew C. Wells of Promised Land, James E. Wells of Ninety Six and Willie R. Wells of Cleveland, Tenn.; 15 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
The family is at the home of a niece, Jack and Henrietta Norman, 334 Pinehurst Drive, Pinehurst Subdivision.
Services will be announced by Robinson & Son Mortuary Inc.

Wenetque C. Williams
EDGEFIELD — Wenetque Collins Williams, 74, of Walker Road, wife of Clifton Williams, died Friday, Nov. 29, 2002 at her home.
A native of Greenwood County, she was a member of Red Hill Baptist Church. She retired as a secretary with Yonce Ford Motor Co.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Mrs. Kevin (Ruth B.) Case of Ohio; two sons, Wayne Burton and John Martin, both of Edgefield; three brothers, Elwin Collins of Lincolnton, N.C., Howard Collins of Cayce and Robert Collins of Eutawville; and five grandchildren.
Services are 11 a.m. Monday at Red Hill Baptist Church. Burial is in Sunset Gardens Memorial Park.
Visitation is 3-5 today at Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home.
The family is at the home.

John Edward Adams
LAURENS — Laurens lost one of its most respected citizens on Saturday, November 30, 2002 with the passing of John Edward “Mr. Johnny” Adams at the age of 95.
Born in Aiken on September 10, 1907, he was a son of the late Basil Manley Adams and Ella Pugh Adams. He and his wife, Winnie Wates Adams, were married at Summerland College in 1929 and moved to Laurens in 1935.
Surviving are the following children: Francis Wates Adams, Sr. and wife Evelyn of Hodges, SC; John Quincy Adams and wife Jane of San Jose, CA; William Hart Adams and wife Patricia of Laurens, SC; Herbert Clark Adams and wife Gwendolyn of Laurens, SC; and Alice Brown and husband Byron of Laurens, SC.
Mr. Adams had 16 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren. One brother-in-law, Banks Wates, lives in Darlington, SC.
He was predeceased by two brothers and one sister- James Quincy Adams of Saluda, SC, Allison Adams of Union, SC, and Ruth Adams Kelley of Hartsville, SC.
Mr. Adams was a life deacon of Laurens First Baptist Church where he served many years as a Sunday School teacher.
A charter member of the Laurens Lions Club, he received an award for 50 years of service in 1995. In 2002, he was presented the “Melvin Jones Fellow Award” from The Lions Club International Foundation for dedicated humanitarian services, the highest honor presented by the Lions Club.
The funeral service will be at Laurens First Baptist Church on Tuesday, December 3, 2002 at 3:30 PM conducted by Dr. Bev Kennedy, Rev. Marc Coker, Dr. Ron Rich, and Rev. Phil Hall.
The family will receive friends at the home at 606 Chestnut Street and one hour before the service in the First Baptist Church Rotunda.
Memorials may be made to the Organ Fund of Laurens First Baptist Church, 300 W. Main Street, Laurens, SC 29360.

Cheryl Patton
BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Cheryl Patton, 44, of Brooklyn, N.Y., died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002 at a local hospital.
Born in Abbeville, she was a daughter of Ida Paul. She attended T.S. Wright High School.
Survivors include her mother of Brooklyn; a sister, Alicia Paul of Brooklyn; a son, Timmy Patton of Brooklyn; a daughter, Codetta Patton of Brooklyn; and a granddaughter.
Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at Flat Rock AME Church, Abbeville, conducted by the Rev. Wayeman Coleman. Burial is in the church cemetery.
The family is at the home of her grandmother, Lillian Paul, 105 Brown St., Abbeville.
