Bertha Winn
ABBEVILLE — Bertha Mae Campbell Winn, 96, formerly of Maple Street, widow of Jesse D. Winn, died Sunday, Dec. 8, 2002 at Marion Memorial Nursing Home, Buena Vista, Ga.
Born in Abbeville County, she was a daughter of the late Jesse and Mary Gambrell Campbell. She was a former member of the Abbeville Pentecostal Holiness Church and attended services at the Chapel of Marion Memorial Nursing Home.
Survivors include a daughter, Elizabeth Winn Bearden of Americus, Ga.; seven grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
Services are 1 p.m. Tuesday at Harris Funeral Home. Burial is in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
Harris Funeral Home is in charge.

Mattie Boozer
Services for Mattie Boozer, of National Healthcare, formerly of 105 S. Bethune St., are 1 p.m. Wednesday at Old Mount Zion Baptist Church, Epworth, conducted by the Rev. Clyde Cannon. The body will be placed in the church at noon. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers are deacons and trustees.
Flower bearers are missionaries and ushers.
The family is at 105 S. Bethune St.

Fermelia Cowart
ANDERSON — Fermelia Wright Cowart, 78, died Monday, Dec. 9, 2002 at Anderson Area Regional Medical Center.
Born in Abbeville, she was a daughter of the late Bruce and Lucia Davis Wright. She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include a sister, Florila Powell of Greenwood and three brothers, Etherl Wright of Columbia, Wade H. Wright Sr. and Dudley B. Wright, both of Greenwood.
Graveside services are 11 a.m. Wednesday in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
The family is at the home of her brother Wade H. Wright Sr., 806 Wright Ave., Greenwood.
Harley Funeral Home, Greenwood, is in charge.

Ransom Harrison Sr.
TROY — Services for Ransom Harrison Sr. are 2 p.m. Wednesday at Springfield Baptist Church, Edgefield County, conducted by the Rev. W.H. McCain, pastor, and the Rev. Nathaniel Langford.
Burial is in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 1.
Pallbearers are nephews.
Nieces are flower bearers.
The family is at the home in the Callison Community.
Walker Funeral Home, McCormick, is in charge.

NINETY SIX — Services for Tadre Lamar “Dre” Logan, of 122 Wilson Bridge Road, are 2 p.m. Thursday at Mount Zion Baptist Church, Coronaca, conducted by the Rev. Bernard White.
The body will be placed in the church at 1. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers are uncles.
Flower bearers are aunts.
Honorary escorts are members of the Ninety Six Elementary fourth-grade class.
Visitation is Wednesday evening at the home of his maternal grandparents, Wanda and Howard Logan, 118 Panther Drive.

Beatrice J. Martin
Beatrice Jackson Martin, 82, of 112 Kington Road, widow of Thomas “Tom” Martin, died Monday, Dec. 9, 2002 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of the late West and Hattie Mack Jackson. She was a former janitorial worker at Greenwood Mills, Harris Plant. A member of St. Paul F.B.H. Church, she was missionary president, usher board president, senior choir president, YPI mother (district) and a former Sunday School teacher.
Survivors include a son, Zacchaeus D. Martin of Spartanburg; a sister, Mamie Williams of Greenwood; and two grandchildren.
The family is at the home.
Services will be announced by Robinson & Son Mortuary Inc.

Annie B. Mitchell
SALUDA — Annie Byrd Harling Mitchell, 93, widow of Drew Mitchell, died Sunday, Dec. 8, 2002 at The Methodist Home, Orangeburg.
Born in Saluda County, she was a daughter of the late Jimmy and Annie Simmons Harling. She lived in Saluda until she moved to Orangeburg several years ago. A graduate of Saluda High School, 1927, and of Greenwood Business College, she was bookkeeper for her husband’s automotive repair and machine shop business for more than 50 years. She was a member of Red Bank Baptist Church, Saluda, an honorary life member of Saluda Eastern Star Chapter No. 8 and a former member of Edgefield United Daughters of the Confederacy. She was former chairman of the Saluda County Election Commission and Saluda County director of the U.S. Census for 1960 and 1970.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Arthur Dale (AnnElla M.) Adams of Orangeburg; four grandchildren and three great-grandsons.
Services are 3 p.m. Wednesday at Ramey Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Gary Romines. Burial is in Travis Park Cemetery, Saluda.
Visitation is 1:30-3 Wednesday at the funeral home.

David Penn
WARD — Milledge David Penn, 82, of 598 Richland Creek Road, husband of Miriam Hurt Penn, died Monday, Dec. 9, 2002 at University Hospital in Augusta.
Born in Edgefield County, he was a son of the late Chris and Azilee Hatcher Penn. He retired as postmaster with the U.S. Postal Service in Ward and was a World War II Air Force veteran. He was a member and former deacon of Richland Springs Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Billy (Kay) Langford and Mrs. Buck (Norma) Gibson, both of Ward; three sisters, Ella Mae Jackson and Sylvia Holmes, both of Johnston and Margaret Satcher of Ward; five grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Richland Springs Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Steve Jones. Burial is in Saluda Memorial Gardens.
Visitation is 7-8 tonight at Ramey Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Richland Springs Baptist Church, 1895 Duncan Road, Ward, SC 29166.

Keith Taylor
Keith Darrell Taylor, 55, of 102 Colonial Drive, husband of Earline Harrison Taylor, died Monday, Dec. 9, 2002 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Greenwood County, he was a son of Robert R. Taylor and the late Mildred Brown Taylor. He attended Greenwood public schools and was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War. Owner and operator of Keith Taylor Logging Co., he was a member of Hodges United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife of the home; his father of Charleston; two daughters, Sunni T. Crowe and Samantha T. Jones, both of Easley; a son, Brian Keith Taylor of the home; three brothers, Robbie Taylor of Ware Shoals, Phillip Taylor and Michael Taylor, both of Mount Pleasant; three grandchildren.
Graveside services are 2 p.m. Wednesday in Greenwood Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Charles Caldwell.
Pallbearers are Claude Shirley, Raymond Shirley, Dorton Shirley, Jerry Price, Johnny Coates and Frankie Coates.
The family is at the home in Belle Meade.
Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Betty Warner
GREENWOOD — Betty Crum Warner, 80, died Sunday, December 8, 2002 at Wesley Commons. Born in Wakulla County, Florida, she was a daughter of the late James H. and Olivia Sanders Crum. At age 15, Mrs. Warner's mother died and she then became mother to her brother and four sisters while attending Sopchoppy High School. She was a graduate of Sopchoppy High and the Albany Business College in Albany, Georgia. She began her career for the US Army as a claims clerk in Florida. In 1947 she was promoted to claims adjuster and transferred to Fort Eustis, VA. There she met Col. Warner (then Capt.) They were married in 1950.
Mrs. Warner was a stay-at-home mom where she reared two daughters while accompanying her husband on assignments in the US, Europe and the Far East. She attended Sunday school and church services at chapels on Army bases and Vesper services at Wesley Commons Retirement Community.
Survivors include her husband, Col. Virgil L. Warner, Jr. of Wesley Commons and two daughters, Donna Warner Williamson of Chapel Hill, NC and Sandra Warner Burns of Newport News, VA. Two granddaughters, Katherine and Claire Williamson, both of Chapel Hill, NC. A brother, Charles W. Crum of Jacksonville, FL. Four sisters, Penny Itz of Houston, TX, Lakie Johnson and Eunice Davis, both of Tallahassee, FL, and Arie Edwards of Sopchoppy, FL.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11AM Wednesday in the Rehoboth United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Joseph Curtis and Rev. Carol Peppers-Wray officiating.
Pallbearers will be Danny Warner, Max Warner, Tim Warner, George Warner, Andrew Woodham, Alan Warner, Lee Warner and Charles Warner.
A viewing will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 Tuesday evening at Blyth Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends in the Emerald Room at Wesley Commons from 3 to 4 Wednesday afternoon.
Memorials may be made to the Fellowship Sunday School Class of Rehoboth United Methodist Church, 1808 Callison Highway, Greenwood, SC 29646 or to the Wesley Commons Building Fund, 1110 Marshall Road, Greenwood, SC 29646, or to the charity of choice.

Lillie Mae Wright
CINCINNATI — Lillie Mae Wright of 3613 Reading Road died December 1 at her home. Born in Donalds, South Carolina, she was a daughter of the late James Wright and Fannie Bell Murray Wright. She was a member of Revelation Missionary Baptist Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Louise Wright of Cincinnati, OH; a son, David Wright of Cincinnati, OH; six sisters, Frances Barmore of Hodges, SC, Lula Nell Moragne of Washington , D.C., Janie Wright and Daisy Howard of Chicago, IL, Carolyn Wright Stancil and Joanne Wright of Ware Shoals; four brothers, J.C. Wright of Hodges, James (Elvira) Wright, Jr. of Anderson, SC, Osten Wright of Belton, SC, and Robert H. (Carrie) Wright of Cincinnati, OH; one granddaughter reared in the home, Cynthia Wright of Cincinnati, OH. She was preceded in death by a brother Wallace Wright.
Funeral services were held Saturday, December 7 at Revelation Missionary Baptist Church.

Billy Ashley Jr.
BLUFFTON — William Blake “Billy” Ashley Jr., 53, of 1712 Burnt Church Road, husband of Faye Burkett Ashley, died Monday, Dec. 9, 2002 at Hilton Head Medical Center.
Born in Anderson County, he was a son of the late William Blake Ashley Sr. and Emma Ashley. He was a member of Walnut Grove Baptist Church and Bascomb Masonic Lodge No. 363 and a Hejaz Shriner. He was self-employed.
Survivors include his wife of the home; a son, William Scott Ashley of Bluffton; a daughter, Sally A. Williams of Bluffton; a brother, Keith Ashley of Richmond, Va.; two sisters, Linda A. Smith of Honea Path and Donna A. Smith of Savannah, Ga.; and three grandchildren.
Services are at 1 Thursday at Parker-White Funeral Home in Ware Shoals. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Visitation is 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.

Grace Bartley
Grace Robertson Bartley, 88, formerly of Phoenix Street, widow of Jessie C. “Jake” Bartley, died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002 at National Health Care of Greenwood.
Services will be announced by Blyth Funeral Home.

Edward Gilchrist Sr.
McCORMICK — Edward Gilchrist Sr., husband of Emma Mae Shivley Gilchrist, died Monday, Dec. 9, 2002 at Self Regional Medical Center in Greenwood.
Born in Spartanburg, he was a son of the late Rufus and Bertha Leverette Gilchrist. He attended McCormick public schools and retired from Grede Foundry, Greenwood. A member of Tranquil A.M.E. Church, he served on the steward board and was a member of the Senior Choir, Gospel Chorus and All Male Chorus.
Survivors include his wife of the home; seven daughters, Connie Dunlap, Tina Abney and Janie Jennings, all of Greenwood, Jean Gilchrist, Lisa Moore and Dianne Gilchrist of McCormick and Denise Cartledge of Washington , D.C.; five sons, Edward Gilchrist Jr. and Charlie McClendon, both of Honea Path, Michael Gilchrist and Richard Gilchrist, both of Greenwood and Brian Gilchrist of McCormick; a brother, Leon Gilchrist of Braddock, Pa.; and 25 grandchildren.
The family is at the home, 311 Oak Hill Lane.
Services will be announced by Walker Funeral Home.
