Services for Carlos Dupree Benson, of 1203 Gum St., are 2 p.m. Wednesday at Weston Chapel A.M.E. Church, conducted by the Rev. Willie N. Norman. The body will be placed in the church at 1. Burial is in Oakbrook Memorial Park.
Pallbearers are John Johnson Jr., Keon Floyd, Freddie Morgan, Brian Adams, Darrell Watts, Dedric Johnson and Lorenzo Johnson.
Flower bearers are Lashonda Hackett, Lakeisa Hill, Melissa Parks, Patricia Parks, Kesha Williams, Debra Watson, Renata Watson, Latonya Butler and Lashonda Adams.
Visitation is 6-7 tonight at the home.
An additional survivor is a stepbrother, Jamar Workman of Hodges.

Quincy L. Chappelle
NINETY SIX — Services for Quincy LeVon Chappelle, of 132 Panther Drive, are 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Mays United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Willie Key, assisted by the Revs. Roy Pilgrim and Ernest Cannon. The body will be placed in the church at 12:30. Burial is in Ninety Six Community Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Tony Williams, Brian Williams, Eric Williams, Ervin Goode, Terry Thompson, Jerry Leverette, Larry Adams, Terry Lark and Robert Martin.
Flower bearers are nieces and cousins.
Honorary escorts are members of Ninety Six High School Class of 1976.
Visitation is 7-8 tonight at the home.

Jewell Todd Fuller
CLINTON — Jewell Todd Fuller, 82, formerly of Glendale Manor, died Monday, Dec. 16, 2002 at National Health Care of Clinton.
Born in Alabama, she was a daughter of the late Samuel and Mary Todd. She was a former employee of Clinton Mills and a member of Lydia Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include two sons, Terry Fuller of Lexington and Larry Fuller of Greer; a sister, Rebecca Sparino of Annandale, Va.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Graveside services are 11 a.m. Wednesday in Pinelawn Memory Gardens.
Memorials may be made to the March of Dimes, c/o Jeff Smith, Carolina First Bank, P.O. Box 484, Clinton, SC 29325.
Gray Funeral Home of Clinton is in charge.

Carrie Holmes
Services for Carrie Holmes are 2 p.m. Wednesday at Little Zion A.M.E. Church, conducted by the Rev. G.H. Oliver. The body will be placed in the church at 1. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers are church deacons and trustees.
Flower bearers are church missionaries and ushers.
Visitation is 7-8 tonight at the home, 222 Ware St.

John Henry Jones Jr.
Services for John Henry Jones Jr., of 308 N. Hospital St., are 2 p.m. Thursday at Macedonia Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Willie S. Harrison, assisted by Bishop Emanuel Spearman and the Revs. Joe Caldwell and Jerry Brown. The body will be placed in the church at 1. Burial is in Jacob Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Michael Butler, Henry Williams, Randy Martin, Bob Covington and Jason Puckett.
Flower bearers are Lynda Calhoun, Helen Johnson, Sonya Williams and friends of the family.
Visitation is Wednesday at the home, starting at 7 p.m.

Michael Norman
CALHOUN FALLS — Services for Michael Norman, of 113 Kathryon St., will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Glover A.M.E. Church, conducted by the Rev. Larry Merrill, pastor, and the Rev. James Louden III. Burial is at Rockford A.M.E. Church.
An additional survivor is a son, Corrie Norman of Georgia.
The family is at the home.

Carrie Holmes
Carrie Holmes, 85, of 222 Ware Street, widow of Ezekiel Holmes died December 13, 2002. Born in Abbeville County June 22, 1917, a daughter of the late Rev. Lewis Kinard and Rosa Moore Kinard. She was a member of Little Zion A.M.E. Church, member of Ruth Chapter O.E.S. #6, member of Jewels Of East #3 Junior Lodge, member Evelyn Osborne Grand Amaranth State of Michigan, former member of Macedonia Baptist Church, Flint, Michigan and owned and operated an Adult Day Care and Foster Home in Flint, Michigan.
She is survived by a foster son, Scotland DeShon Ward of Flint, Michigan; four nephews, Charles (Izola) Wilson, Joseph (Doris) Wilson of Greenwood, Ralph (Dorothy) Wilson of Columbus, Ga. and Willie Kinard of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and several other nieces and nephews; one preceded her in death, Bennie Kinard.
Funeral services are today at 2:00 p.m. from Little Zion A.M.E. Church. Burial is in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 1:00. The family is at the home.
Percival-Tompkins Funeral Home is in charge.

Gladys Horne
NINETY SIX — Gladys Mae Rodgers Horne, 79, of 111 Sherard Avenue, Ninety Six, widow of Rufus Harling Horne, died Tuesday, December 17, 2002 at her home.
Born in Saluda County, she was a daughter of the late Otis and Maggie Haston Rodgers. She was retired from Greenwood Mills, Ninety Six Plant, where she was a member of the Quarter Century Club. She was also employed by the Greenwood School District 52 in the Ninety Six Elementary School Cafeteria. She was a member of Ninety Six Pentecostal Holiness Church and the Adult No. 5 Sunday School Class.
Surviving is a daughter, Patsy Shaw of the home; a grandson raised in the home, Chad Matthews of Ninety Six; six other grandchildren, Delmus Matthews, Todd Matthews, Spencer Matthews and Jason Matthews, all of Greenwood, Denise Shaw and Candy Shaw, both of the home; a brother, Grady Rodgers of Ninety Six; and eight great grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Ninety Six Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. Ben Edwards and the Rev. Hayes Riddle officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Dr. Michael Bryant, Bill Coats, Gerald Horne, Junior Rodgers, Charles Brown and Bobby Matthews.
Honorary escort will be the men of Ninety Six Pentecostal Holiness Church.
The family will receive friends at Harley Funeral Home on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. on Thursday.
The family is at the home.
Memorials may be made to the Ninety Six Pentecostal Holiness Church carpet fund, 206 State Street, Ninety Six, SC 29666.

The Rev. James Gordon “Speck” Thompson, 89, of 409 Stevens Ave., husband of Flossie McCuen Thompson, died Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002 at his home.
Visitation is 6-8 Thursday at Blyth Funeral Home.
The family is at the home.
Services will be announced by Blyth Funeral Home.

Ken Akins
HODGES — Kenneth Dale “Ken” Akins, 54, resident of 2906 Hwy. 25 N., died December 18, 2002 at his home.
Born in Greenwood, December 8, 1948, he was a son of Agnes Tucker Akins and the late Odis Turner Akins. He was a US Army Veteran of the Vietnam War and was a topographical surveyor. He was of the Baptist faith and was a Mason.
Surviving in addition to his mother of the home are a son, Russell Akins of Hodges; two sisters, Pat Ellison and Debra Gravley, both of Greenwood; two brothers, Larry Akins of Saluda and Michael Akins of Waterloo; two brothers in heart, John Sanders and Pat McLeod.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 AM Friday from the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Lamar Babb and Rev. Byron Wood officiating.
Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be John Sanders, Rondey Shirley, George Smith, Greg Stevens, Otis Harvley and Ricky Duff.
The family is at the home on Hwy. 25 N. and will receive friends at the funeral home from 10 to 11 AM Friday.
Memorials may be made to Hospice Care of the Piedmont, 408 W. Alexander Avenue, Greenwood, SC 29646 or to the charity of one’s choice.

Roger W. Arnett
CALHOUN FALLS — Roger William Arnett, 78, of 113 Bush St., husband of Annie Bell Dubose Arnett, died Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002 at Abbeville County Memorial Hospital.
Born in McCormick County, he was a son of the late Harrison and Hattie Wideman Arnett. He was a member of Spring Grove Baptist Church, Mount Carmel.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, George Edward Arnett and Emanuel Arnett, both of Detroit; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; three stepsons, Charlie Heed of Calhoun Falls, Floyd Heed and John Michael Heed, both of the home; three stepdaughters, Willie Mae Payton of Abbeville, Sarah Dawson of Athens, Ga., and Linda Hill of Calhoun Falls.
Services are 3 p.m. Saturday at Spring Grove Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Roy Andrews.
The body will be placed in the church at 2. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers are Floyd Heed, John Michael Heed, Charlie Heed, Kelsey Middleton, Thomas Callaham and Kent Gunter.
Flower bearers are Fran Taylor, Recolliar Middleton and April Rogers.
The family is at the home and at the home of a granddaughter, Gennie Middleton, Hester Bottom Road, Mount Carmel.

Joseph A. Brownlee
COLUMBIA — Joseph A. Brownlee, 47, died Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002 at Palmetto Richland Hospital in Columbia.
Born in Due West, he attended Abbeville County schools and continued his education at Morgan State and Grambling universities.
Survivors include his mother, Addie Mae Brownlee of the home; two brothers, Garrett Brownlee of Atlanta and Fred Brownlee of Columbia; four sisters, Willia Noel and Betty Washington of Columbia, Eva Brownlee of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Rodell Means of Morrisville, N.C.
Services will be announced by Abbeville & White Mortuary, Abbeville.

Frances Runyon
MANSFIELD, Ohio — Frances VeRelle “Ma” Runyon, 98, of Sarasota, Fla., widow of William P. Runyon, died Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002 at Mifflin Care Center in Mansfield.
Born in Greenwood County, S.C., she was a daughter of the late John Henry and Bessie Buchanan VeRelle. She owned and operated Ma’s Friendly Tavern in Mansfield until her retirement in 1966.
She then moved to Sarasota.
Survivors include a daughter, Kate Berry of Lucas; a son, John Runyon of Mansfield; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services are 11 a.m. Friday in Bethlehem Cemetery, Greenwood, conducted by the Rev. David Tester. Blyth Funeral Home is in charge.

Rev. James Thompson
The Rev. James Gordon “Speck” Thompson, 89, of 409 Stevens Ave., husband of Flossie McCuen Thompson, died Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002 at his home.
Born in Greenville County, he was a son of the late Lewis Charlton and Lelia Ridgeway Thompson.
He retired from the Greenwood Mills Service Department, Leather Shop in 1977. He was an ordained Southern Baptist minister, formerly serving as pastor of Bethabra Baptist in Cross Hill and as supply pastor at other Baptist churches in the Greenwood area. A member of New Market Baptist Church and the Men’s Bible Class of the church, he was also a member of the Greenwood Mills Quarter Century Club.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, John G. Thompson and Charlton “Red” Thompson, both of Greenwood; two daughters, Lauvenia Reynolds and Kathleen Moore, both of Greenwood; a brother, Charles Thompson of Belton; three sisters, Marie Chastain of Williamston, Sara Thompson of Belton and Elizabeth Woods of Ware Shoals; seven grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren.
Services are 2 p.m. Friday at Blyth Funeral Home, conducted by the Revs. Dan Johnston and Buddy Wiles. Burial is in Edgewood Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Chris Reynolds, Gordon Thompson, James Moore, Charlton Moore, Owens Gary and Roger Gary.
Honorary escorts are members of the Men’s Bible Class of New Market Baptist Church, along with J.B. and Nellie Buchanan, Guy and Blanche Kidd, Dr. Floyd Hatcher and Frank and Mildred Whitt.
Visitation is 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.
