Leroy Ward
Leroy Ward, 74, of 214 Kentucky Ave., died Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Greenwood, he was a son of the late James Franklin and Bertha Davis Ward. He was an employee of Southerland Maintenance and a Marine Corps veteran of World War II and the Korean conflict. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include two sons, Mike Ward of Greenville and John Ward of Saluda; five daughters, Jobie Ward Stewart of Columbia, Christine Jones and Joan Hudson, both of Greenwood, BeBe Bullard of Saluda and Diane Dawson of Charlotte, N.C.; four stepsons, Tony Tafta of Bradley, Terry Tafta of Greenville, Pat Tafta of Donalds and Louis Tafta of Ninety Six; four sisters, Annie Mae McFerrin and Sara Franklin, both of Greenwood, Mary Southerland of Iva and Clara Williams of Batesburg; a brother, Joe Ward of Greenwood; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services are 1 p.m. Friday at Harley Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Craig Hughes. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are John Ward, Jimmy Ward, Terry Bullard, Chris Stewart, Brian Ward and Louis Tafta.
Honorary escorts are nephews.
Visitation is 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.
The family is at the home.

Chris ‘Pop’ Butler
Chris David “Pop” Butler, 68, of 217 Ware St., husband of ImojeanWaites Butler, died Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002 at his home.
Born in McCormick, he was a son of the late James Oscar and Sudie Wideman Butler. He retired from Greenwood Mills, Mathews Plant No. 3, where he was a member of the Quarter Century Club. He was a member of South Greenwood Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, David Samuel Butler and James Richard Butler, both of Greenwood; a daughter, CarrianJane Butler Dodgen of Greenwood; a sister, Sue Elizabeth B. Finch of Greenwood; three brothers, Claude Jennings Butler of McCormick, Julian Marion Butler of Hilton Head and Joseph D. Butler of Greenwood; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Services are 2 p.m. Saturday at Harley Funeral Home, conducted by the Revs. Lawrence Johnson, Carroll Harrison and Donald Rowell. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are Dale Butler, Dennis Butler, John Dorn, Marion Butler, Mike Butler, Michael Knight and Eddie Laye.
Honorary escorts are members of the Men’s Sunday School Class of South Greenwood Pentecostal Holiness Church, along with OnieDoyle, Carl Merritt, Walter Smith, David Kelly, Gene McDaniel and Eddie Banes.
Visitation is 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

DUE WEST — Services for Joseph A. Brownlee are 3:30 Saturday at St. Mary’s Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. J.C. Eichelberger. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Viewing is at Abbeville & White Mortuary, 1-9 p.m. today and 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday.

Henry ‘Top’ Johnson
CDECATUR, Ga. — Henry “Top” Johnson, 81, died Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002.
A son of the late Willie and Mary Jane Johnson, he was formerly of the Cedar Spring community, Greenwood County, S.C. He was a member and deacon of First Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Decatur.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at First Mount Pleasant Baptist Church.

Zelma M. Little
ABBEVILLE — Annie Mae Zelma Moon Little, 88, of 1957 Highway 28 Bypass, widow of Francis Marion Little, died Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002 at her home.
Born in Hart County, Ga., she was a daughter of the late Omer and Susan Emma Mae Nash Moon. She was a member of Sharon United Methodist Church, where she participated in many church activities.
She was a homemaker and retired seamstress.
Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Little Burden of Beaufort; three sons, Dennis Little of Greenwood, Larry Little of High Point, N.C., and Dwayne Little of Hartwell, Ga.; two sisters, Mae Sue Moon of Elberton, Ga., and Emma Lou Crunkleton of Cumming, Ga.; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services are 1 p.m. Saturday at Sharon United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Todd Davis.
The body will be placed in the church at 12:30. Entombment is in Franklin Memorial Gardens, Lavonia, Ga.
Visitation is 6-8 tonight at Harris Funeral Home.
The family is at the home.

Rebecca Blanche Griffin Morris Moser
MT. AIRY, NC — Rebecca Moser died peacefully in her sleep at her home, 2101 Heatherstone Lane, Mt. Airy, North Carolina on December 18, 2002.
Mrs. Moser was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Alvin Morris, her son, David Lynn Morris, her second husband, William Lex Moser, and her son-in-law, Dr. Gil Burke.
Mrs. Moser was a life long and devoted member of St. John’s Baptist Church and the Hannah Sunday School Class. She was devoted to her large family and her friends through her church work and many community projects.
She is survived by her four children and their families, Jane and Fenton Erwin, Lex and Amy, Martha, Rebecca, Mary Grey, and F. T. Erwin; Carol, Emily, Julie and Katherine Burke; Dr. Edwin and Barbara Morris, Allan, Rodney, and Gary Morris; James Thomas (J.T.) and Donna Morris and Lauren, David, and Katie Morris; her sister and brother-in-law, Mrs. Charles (Ida) Griffin of Marshville, N.C. Her special friends in Mt. Airy are Lou Puckett, Marie Judson, Sandra Vichvar, Lorrie and Tiny Finney and Gloria, Mackenzie and Tanner Reece.
A graveside service for the family will be at 10:00 a.m. on December 21, at Sharon Memorial Park, followed by a Service of Celebration for her Life and Resurrection into Eternal Life in the Chapel of St. John’s Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m. officiated by Dr. Wm. Richard Kremer. The family will receive friends following the service.
Memorials may be sent to St. John’s Baptist Church at 300 Hawthorne Lane, Charlotte, North Carolina 28204.

Ralph Weeks
Ralph A. Weeks, Sr., 82, of 711 Burnett Road, husband of Monteze Spence Weeks, died Thursday, December 19, 2002 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in McCormick, he was a son of the late John Allen and Maggie Walker Weeks. He retired from Commissioners of Public Works after 28 years of service and was a US Air Force veteran of World War II. He was a member of Tranquil United Methodist Church and the Brockwell Sunday School Class.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Rebecca Diane Weeks; a brother, Billy Weeks and a brother-in-law, Jimmy Spence.
Surviving is his wife of the home; a daughter, Mrs. Billy (Lisa) Dunn of Greenwood; a son, Chuck Weeks of Greenville; four sisters, Mrs. Murray (Mary) Scott, Mrs. Joe (Virginia) Rogers, Mrs. Dewitt (Jean) Pressly and Mrs. Nira Miles, all of Greenwood; two brothers, James E. Weeks and Lester P. Weeks, both of Greenwood; two grandchildren, Kelsey Dunn and Spence Dunn, both of Greenwood and a special family friend, Mack Attaway of Greenwood.
Services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Harley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jim Patterson and the Rev. Karen Radcliffe officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Brent Rowland, Bayne Rowland, Frank Weeks, Mike Weeks, Bob Owens and Wayne Walker.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 2:30 to 4 p.m.

Hershell D. Barrett
ANDERSON — Hershell D. Barrett, 51, of 502 Lanford St., husband of Vickie Barnes Barrett, died Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002 at Anderson Area Medical Center.
Born in Oconee County, he was a son of the late Edward D. and Janie Mae Sosby Barrett. A retired employee of G & P Trucking Co., he attended Riverside Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of the home; three brothers, David P. Barrett and Charles D. Barrett, both of Anderson and George Macomson of Lavonia, Ga.; three sisters, Pat Simpson of Greenwood, Carolyn “Penny” Nelson of Clinton and Hope Barrett of Newberry.
Services are 2 p.m. Sunday at McDougald Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Mike Fitzpatrick. Burial is in New Silverbrook Cemetery.
Visitation is 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.
The family is at the home and at the home of his brother David Barrett, 404 McClain Road.

Joe Eddie Campbell
Joe Eddie Campbell, 43, of 224-B Taggart St., died Friday, Dec. 20, 2002 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Greenwood County, he was a son of Walter Campbell and Fannie Mays Campbell. He was a member of Old Mount Zion Baptist Church.
Survivors include his mother of the home; his father of Greenwood; two brothers, Walter Campbell Jr. of Detroit and Gregory Campbell of Greenwood; two sisters, Sallie Campbell Parker of Columbia and Linda Campbell Prophet of Greenwood.
The family is at the home.
Services will be announced by Percival-Tompkins Funeral Home.

John McBride Jr.
EVANSTON, Ill. — John McBride Jr., 69, died Friday, Dec. 20, 2002 at an Evanston hospital.
Born in Abbeville County, S.C., he was a son of the late John McBride Sr. and Ethel McBride Harkness. He lived in Evanston for the past 52 years and was of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include three sisters, Carrie Aiken of Abbeville, Geraldine Sizemore and Lucille Harkness, both of Evanston; three brothers, Samuel McBride of Evanston, Cornell Harkness of Riverdale and William Harkness of Abbeville.
Services will be in Evanston at a later date.
The local family is at the home of his sister Carrie Aiken, 105 Academy St., Abbeville.

Barry Lee Pinkney
Barry Lee Pinkney, 44, husband of Jofletta Miller Robinson, died Friday, Dec. 20, 2002 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Greenwood County, he was a son of Leroy and Hazel Brooks Pinkney. He was a member of St. Paul A.M.E. Church, a 1976 graduate of Greenwood High School and an honors graduate of Piedmont Tech, receiving an associate degree in machine tool technology. He was a former member of Greenwood Running Club.
Survivors include his wife of the home; his parents of Greenwood, a son, Jerod Coleman of Edgefield; a stepson, Rachion Robinson of Pensacola, Fla.; two brothers, Curtis Pinkney and Michael Pinkney of Greenwood; a sister, Gloria Pellam of Greenwood.
The family is at the home.
Services will be announced by Percival-Tompkins Funeral Home.

Margaret Cromer
ROCK HILL — Margaret Eliza Mann Cromer, 92, of Rock Hill, died Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002 at Ebenezer Senior Services, Rock Hill.
Born in Greensboro, N.C., she was a daughter of the late Dr. James Lewis and Amelia Moss Mann. She was a graduate of Greenville High School and she earned a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Library Science at USC. She worked as a high school English teacher, French teacher, and librarian. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Rock Hill.
Survivors include a daughter and caregiver, Missy Cromer of Rock Hill; a son, Lewis Mann Cromer of Columbia; and two grandchildren.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Springwood Cemetery, Greenville, conducted by Dr. William A. Fox Jr.
Memorials may be made to Hospice and Community Care, 325 South Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29730.
