NINETY SIX — Jerry Duwane Adams, 56, of 108 Faye Drive, husband of Celie Marie Gibert Adams, died Saturday, Dec. 28, 2002 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
Born in Batesburg, he was a son of the late Caldwell and Grace Matthews Adams.
Survivors include his wife of the home; a daughter, Melissa Marie Adams of Greenwood; a son, Jerry Crafton Adams of Ninety Six; a brother, Raymond L. Adams of Easley; three sisters, Mrs. Jack (Betty) Kyzer of Columbia, Mrs. Nelson (Phyllis) Bright of Lexington and Mrs. Bobby (Judy) Jay of Hodges; and two grandchildren.
Memorial services are 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at Cremation Society of South Carolina, Greenville, conducted by the Rev. Todd Johnson. Visitation is at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Cremation Society of South Carolina.
Memorials may be made to the family at 108 Faye Drive, Ninety Six, SC 29666.
Cremation Society of South Carolina is in charge.

Mattie M. Adams
EDGEFIELD — Mattie Lavinia Mayson Adams, 80, of 25 Papas Place, died Sunday, Dec. 29, 2002 at Saluda Nursing Center.
Born in Edgefield, she was a daughter of the late Milton Span and Frances Seigler Mayson. She attended Edgefield High School, was a retired employee of Reigel and a member of Order of Eastern Star. She was a member of Bethel Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, Milton L. Adams of Florence; a brother, Elbert Mayson of North Augusta; a grandchild and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services are 2 p.m. Monday at Mt. Vernon Methodist Church Cemetery, Callison.
Strom Funeral Home, McCormick is in charge.

Lawrence Cobb
COLUMBIA — Lawrence Cobb, 87, of Columbia, formerly of Greenwood died Saturday, Dec. 28, 2002.
Born in Seattle, he was a son of the late Francis Waldron and Stella Inez Pollard Cobb. He attended the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, received a bachelor’s degree in 1986 and a master’s degree in 1991 at the age of 76 from the University of South Carolina. He was a World War II Army veteran and a retired employee of Love and Cobb Architects. He was a member of Skyland Drive Bible Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Toshi (Liesl C.) Kii of Atlanta; and a sister, Margaret “Dolly” Keeling of Hillsboro, Wis. Services are 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. A private graveside service will be at Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens.
Visitation is from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Wednesday at the home.
Memorials may be made to Skyland Drive Bible Church or to the American Cancer Society.

Ronnie C. Dunlap
BRADLEY — Ronnie Clayton Dunlap, 88, of 1714 Five Notch Road, formerly of Route 1, McCormick, died Sunday, Dec. 29, 2002 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Oconee County, he was a son of the late John F. and Pamelia Clark Dunlap. He was a World War II Army veteran, a bus driver for Cambridge Academy, a former employee of the McCormick Police Department and a retired employee of Pinkerton Security with Self Regional Medical Center. He was a member of Troy United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the Men’s Sunday School Class. Survivors include three sisters, Mrs. James A. (Winifred) Henderson of Columbia, Guynell Henderson of McCormick and Lucille Turman of Abbeville; a brother, Raymond A. Dunlap of McCormick; and a niece, Dorothy Dillashaw of the home.
Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at Troy United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. George Boyd. The body will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers are John Henderson, Marion Henderson, Clyde Dillashaw, Curtis Dillashaw, Roger Dillashaw, Bob Underwood, Curtis Walker and Frank White.
Honorary escorts are the Men’s Sunday School Class of Troy United Methodist Church.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at Harley Funeral Home.
The family is at their respective homes.
Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Jessie Burton White
Jessie Burton White, 75, of 1616 Evans Pond Road, formerly of Bradley, widow of Ulysses White Sr., died Saturday, Dec. 28, 2002 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Abbeville County, she was a daughter of he late Tom and Nancy Burton. She was a member of Wilson Court No. 162 Order of Eastern Star, The Woman’s Home Aide No. 77 and was a Past Worthy Matron. She was a member of Glovers Chapel Baptist Church, where she served on the Senior Choir, Mass Choir and Missionary Society. She was also a Sunday School teacher.
Survivors include a son, Ulysses White of the home; two daughters, Earnestine Quarles of Greenwood and Betty Fowler of Spartanburg; two sisters, Fannie Samuels of Norristown Pa. and Bessie Wright of Bradley; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services are 1 p.m. Tuesday at Glovers Chapel Baptist Church, Troy, conducted by the Rev. M.L. Taylor. The body will be placed in the church at 12 p.m. Burial is in the church cemetery.
The family is at the home.

Ray Clark
PANAMA CITY BEACH, FL — Ray Fuller Clark, age 76, died Friday, December 27, 2002 in Panama City Beach, FL. Born in Greenwood, SC, he was the son of the late Dacus Frank Clark and Thelma Eakin Clark. Mr. Clark attended Furman, Lander and graduated from the University of SC in 1950. He was also a graduate from the University of Wisconsin School of Banking in 1965 and the SC Banking School in 1973. Mr. Clark was a US Army veteran having served as a sergeant in the army infantry during World War II and was a corporal in the Korean Conflict. He worked for the Auto Finance, and was the first president of the Rotary Club in Camden, SC. He also worked for the Bank of Hodges (VP), Bank of Augusta (VP), and American Bank & Trust (VP). He retired from the FIC in 1988 and was called out of retirement in the early nineties to assist in resolution of Rhode Island banking crisis as Receiver of the Charho-Exeter Credit Union. Ray was best known for his dry sense of humor and the poems he sent to friends. His favorite quote was, “Do right because it is right, not because you’re afraid to do wrong.”
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 2, 2003, at 11:00 AM to Kornegay Funeral Home Lugoff Elgin Chapel with burial to follow in Ebenezer Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 1, 2003 in Kornegay Funeral Home Lugoff Elgin Chapel from 4:00-6:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family ask donations be made to Covenant Hospice, 2589 Jenks Avenue, Panama City, FL 32405. (850) 785-3040 or www.covenanthospice.com. in memory of Ray.
Pallbearers will be John Bowles, Yatesville, GA; Richard Gaskill, Ewing, NJ; Dan McKittrick, Robbins, NC; Bobby Mickle, Ridgeway, SC; Willie Mickle, Camden, SC; and Gerald Reeves, Lugoff, SC.
Surviving are his wife, Joe Ann Mickle Clark, his only daughter, Dana Clark Goodman and her husband, C.H. Goodman, Jr.; three grandsons, Brandon, Trey and Noah; sisters, Edna and Ruth Clark, both of Greenwood, SC; brother Dacus Clark of Cocoa Beach, FL.
Special thanks to Dr. John Ciungu, Dr. Matthew Sweetser, and the staff of Covenant Hospice and the Gulf Coast Medical Center.

Ruby Hughes
ABBEVILLE — Ruby Norrell Hughes, 94, formerly of 602 West Brooks St., widow of Carl Basil Hughes, died Monday, Dec. 30, 2002, at Self Regional Medical Center in Greenwood.
Services will be announced by The Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home.

Tommy Simms Jr.
WARE SHOALS — Tommy Gerald Simms Jr., 44, of 279 Turkey Creek Road, died Saturday, Dec. 28, 2002 at Self Regional Medical Center in Greenwood.
Born in Sacramento, Calif., he was a son of the late Tom and Martha Holcombe Simms. He was a machinist and a member of Walnut Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Deborah Smith Simms of Columbia; two daughters, Lacy Simms and April Simms, both of the home; a brother, Jimmy Simms of Robertsdale, Ala.; two sisters, Anita Crawford of Tampa, Fla., and Jackie Culbertson of Ware Shoals; and two grandchildren.
Graveside services are 11 a.m. Wednesday in Oakbrook Memorial Park, conducted by the Rev. Rodney Jeans.
Visitation is 1-3 p.m. Wednesday at the home.
Parker-White Funeral Home is in charge.

Annabelle Brissey
Annabelle Bosler Brissey, 84, formerly of Wisewood Apartments, widow of Claude Brissey, died Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2002 at Magnolia Manor.
Born in Abbeville County, she was a daughter of the late William Spear and Mary Etta Beauford Bosler. She was a homemaker and she attended Fraser Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include two sisters, Evelyn B. Brown and Mrs. Harry (Ellen) Byrd, both of Greenwood.
Services are 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Blyth Funeral Home, conducted by the Revs. Fred Treaster and Rudolph Chasteen. Burial is in Long Cane Cemetery, Abbeville.
Pallbearers are Jeff Turner, Mike Byrd, Eddie Byrd, Bill Bosler, Bobby Brown, Kenny Brown, Michael Byrd and Bill Mercardo.
Visitation is 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.
The family is at the home of Evelyn B. Brown, 524 Bond St.

Ashley J. Wall
Ashley J. Wall, 27, husband of Tangerine Holback Wall, died Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Rockingham, N.C., he was a son of Tommie Ann and Lynwood Wall Jr. He was a 1994 graduate of Greenwood High School and an employee of National Textiles. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, Cross Hill.
Survivors include his wife of Abbeville; a son, Raymond Deontay Ja’wayne Wall; three brothers, Hervey Wall of California, Gary Lamar Wall of Champaign, Ill. and Gregory Wall of Greenwood. Additional survivors are stepchildren, Charlene Holback, Charles Holback, Samara Head and Samuelle Head..
Services will be announced by Richie Funeral Home.

James M’Lik Jones
ANDERSON — James M’Lik Jones died Friday, Dec 13, 2002, at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
He was the infant son of Candace Clinkscales Jones and Aaron Jones of Anderson.
Survivors include his parents of the home; a sister, LaToya Austin and a brother, Bruce Austin, both of the home; maternal grandparents, Vance A. and Harriet Clinkscales of Belton; paternal grandparents, Johnnie M. and Cynthis T. Jones of Greenwood; maternal great-grandmother, Catherlean V. Curry of St. George; and paternal great-grandparents, Rosa Jones of Greenwood, James and Myrtle McDaniel of Orangeburg and Esther Woodberry of Marion. Also surviving is a paternal great-grandfather, Harmon Jones of Greenwood.
Services are at 11 Monday in the Marvin R. Mattison Memorial Chapel of D.B. Walker Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. William Booker. Burial is in the Old Mt. Zion Baptist Cemetery, Epworth.
The family is at the home, 5109 Belton Highway, Anderson.

James R. Gilbert
HODGES — James Rathen Gilbert, of 120 N. Hodges School Road, husband of Lillie R. Brunson Gilbert, died Sunday, Nov. 24, 2002.
Born in Greenwood, he was a son of Camilla Gilbert and the late James Gilbert Sr. He was a member of Macedonia C.M.E. Church and an employee of National Textiles.
Survivors include his wife of the home; a daughter, Nashonda La Tasha White of Ware Shoals; a brother, Kenneth Marshall of Greenwood; and three grandchildren. Survivors include an adopted brother, Wayne Harris.
The family is at the home and at his mother’s home, 122 N. Hodges School Road.
Services will be announced by Parks Funeral Home, Greenwood.

Cecil T. Rucker
GREENWOOD - Cecil T. Rucker, husband of Willie Jo Rucker was born Sept. 23, 1960 in Greenwood, SC to Mary M. Rucker and the late Willie C. Rucker. He departed his life Jan. 23, 2002 at Self Regional Healthcare.
He was a former employee of Velux and Grede Foundry of Greenwood, SC. He was a former member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, then later joined Bethel Missionary Baptist Church. He was a member of Greenwood High School Class of 1979.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by two daughters; Itairis Rucker of the home and Lekesla Sheppard of Greenwood; two brothers Dennis (Charlene) Rucker of Greenwood, SC, Charles E. (Deloris) Rucker of Greenwood. Two sisters Sharon Rucker of Greenwood, SC and Wilhelmenia (Curtis) Morton of San Antonio, TX. Two grandchildren, Leonard and Miangel Sheppard of Greenwood; three godchildren, Mario Peterson of Cross Hill, Jamal Aiken of Greenwood and Shard Hill of Ninety Six. Beloved friends Greg and Tracy Aiken of Greenwood, SC. Four sisters-in-law Angela (Ernest) Raynor of Cross Hill, SC, Cathy (Anthony) Mims of Laurens, SC, Melissa (Grant) Peterson of Cross Hill, SC, Pamela (Russell) Grant of Mountville, SC. Three brothers-in-law, Lonzo Grant of Cross Hill, Randy (Mary) Grant of Laurens, SC, Ricky Grant of Cross Hill, SC. Mother-in-law Betty J. Grant and Father-in-law Lonzo Grant both of Cross Hill. Three Uncles, three Aunts and a host of other relatives.
The family will be receiving friends at 400 North Emerald Road, Apt. J-1 (Foxfield) and 227 Booker St., Greenwood, SC.

Pilgramand the Rev. Otis Cunningham. The body will be placed in the church at 2. Burial is in Evening Star Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are Reggie Jackson, Reggie Austin, Ricky Grant, Rosell Grant, Robert Fuller and Randolph Jackson.
Flower bearers are Virginia Dillard, Patricia Williams, Renee Hodges, Tammy Conway, Georgia Carroll, Jessica Middleton and Jessie Mae Cunningham.

Visitation is Saturday at the home in Foxfield Apartments and at his mother’s home, Mary M. Rucker, 227 Booker St.
