Macie Garrett Sloan
CHICAGO — Macie Garrett Sloan, 95, died Friday, Jan. 3, 2003.
A native of Due West, S.C., she was a member of Mount Lebanon A.M.E. Church in Due West.
Survivors include a sister, Ethel Garrett Aiken; and a daughter and son-in-law with whom she lived, Karlen and James Flowers Jr.
Local services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Lebanon A.M.E. Church, Due West. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 10-11 Saturday at the church.
Holloway’s Funeral Home, Belton, S.C., is in charge of local arrangements.

Ben Alfred Crouch
SPARTANBURG — Ben Alfred Crouch, 53, of 220 S. Hampton Drive, husband of Jennifer Terrell Crouch, died Monday, Jan. 6, 2003 at his home.
Born in Saluda County, he was a son of Willie James Crouch Sr. and Dorothy Lott Crouch. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War, a recipient of the Purple Heart and a member of Mount Moses C.M.E. Church, Saluda. He was last employed with Croft-Masonry.
Survivors include his wife of the home; his parents of Saluda; two daughters, Katrina Crouch of Nathlie, Va., and Joann Monique Crouch of New York; two brothers, Willie J. Crouch of Columbia and George “Buck” Crouch of Saluda; four sisters, Dorothy “Stuffy” Wilson and Joan Scott, both of Columbia, Gloria Bender of Macon, Ga., and Carolyn Taylor of Suitland, Md.; three grandchildren.
Services are 1 p.m. Saturday at Bethlehem Baptist Church, Saluda, conducted by the Rev. Johnny C. Gantt, assisted by the Rev. Calvin Robinson. The body will be placed in the church at noon.
Burial is in Mount Moses C.M.E. Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers are nephews.
Honorary pallbearers are members of Riverside High School Class of 1968.
Flower bearers are members of Riverside High School Class of 1968.
The family is at his parents’ home, Mr. and Mrs. Willie James Crouch Sr., 117 Posey Road, Saluda.
Butler & Sons Funeral Home, Saluda, is in charge.

Jimmie A. Elrod
LAURENS — Jimmie Andrew Elrod, 75, of 430 Buck’s Point Road, husband of Carolyn Moss Elrod, died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
Born in Powdersville, he was a son of the late James Samuel and Loche Elrod Elrod. He was an Army veteran of the Korean conflict and a member of Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church. He retired from the Department of Agriculture Soil Conservation Service after 27 years of service.
Survivors include his wife of the home; a son, Stanley Wayne Elrod of Coronaca; two daughters, Mrs. James H. (Leslie E.) Gambrell of Hickory Tavern and Mrs. Michael L. (Lisa E.) Anthony of Landrum; two brothers, Jon Robert Elrod and George L. Elrod, both of Powdersville; a sister, Ellen E. Shands of Powdersville; and two grandchildren.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. Tony Crouch and Jack Reid. Private burial is in the church cemetery.
Visitation is after the services, at the church.
The family is at the home.
Memorials may be made to Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church, Building Fund, 499 Chestnut Ridge Road, Laurens, SC 29360 or a charity of one’s choice.
Kennedy Mortuary is in charge.

Raymond Haddon
ABBEVILLE — Raymond Haddon, 53, of 600 Haigler St., Apt. 907, died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003 in Greenville.
Born in Abbeville County, he was a son of the late Gussie Bell Haddon. He was a member of St. Paul Church of God Holiness and a volunteer with My Brother’s Keeper Food Pantry.
Survivors include a brother, Sammy David Haddon of Greenville; and an uncle who was his guardian, Bobby Brown of Abbeville.
The family is at his uncle’s home, 103 Rock House Circle.
Services will be announced by Brown and Walker Funeral Home.

Genevieve Martin
Genevieve Mae Schultz Martin, 85, of 106 Sheldon Ave., widow of Ralph O. Martin, died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Pittsburgh, she was a daughter of the late Gustive and Alice Rhodes Schultz. She was a graduate of Mount Sinai College of Nursing and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Painesville, Ohio Chapter.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Walter (Shelia) Benedict of Greenwood; a son, Ralph E. Martin of Destin, Fla.; a sister, Dorothy Peters of Toledo, Ohio; four grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
A private family memorial service will be at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 1741, Greenwood, SC 29648.
Blyth Funeral Home is in charge.

William G. Mobley
William Glenn Mobley, 48, of Whitten Center, Clinton, died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003.
Born in Greenville, he was a son of Frances Cobb Mobley and the late Curtis N. Mobley. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his mother of Dalton, Ga.; and three brothers, Charles E. Mobley and Andrew C. Mobley, both of St. Augustine, Fla., and Mitchell S. Mobley of Gainesville, Ga.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday at Harley Funeral Home, conducted by Chaplin Bob Thomason. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Visitation is 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.
Harley Funeral Home is in charge.

Michael C. Parker
EASLEY — Michael C. Parker “Mike”, 54, of 105 Heaton Circle, formerly of Greenwood, husband of Lynne Uldrick Parker, died Tuesday, January 07, 2003 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Parker was born in Greenville County. He was the son of the late Reverend A.C. Parker and Jessie Lee Trotter Parker.
Mr. Parker was previously employed as General Merchandise Manager of Belk in Greenwood and a former pastor of Perry Road Wesleyan Church of Greenville and Pickens View Wesleyan Church of Pickens.
Surviving are his wife of the home, one daughter; Aimee P. Underwood and her husband Marty of Easley, one step granddaughter; Tiffany Underwood, one brother; Phillip Parker and his wife Nancy of Palatka, Fl., one niece; Christina Parker, two nephews; Kyle and Billy Parker, his mother-in-law; Martha S. Uldrick of Easley, and special friends; Rick and Diane Sims.
funeral services will be held Friday, January 10, 2003 at 2:00 PM at Rock Springs Baptist Church in Easley, with the Reverend Dr. David Gallamore, Reverend Arnold Beard, Reverend Dan Belcher, Reverend Lawrence Keever, Reverend Phil Bailey and Reverend Dr. Byrl Rosenberger officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 7:00 PM until 8:30 PM at Dillard Memorial Funeral Home in Pickens.
Memorials may be made to the Rock Springs Baptist Church Building Fund, 212 Dayton School Road, Easley, SC 29642.
The family is at the home.

Callie Price
Callie Price, 86, of 207 Smythe Ave., widow of James Price, died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Edgefield County, she was a daughter of the late Johnny and Anna Jane Moore Mathis. She was a retired homemaker and a member of Springfield Baptist Church, Edgefield and the Missionary Society.
Survivors include two sons, Willie Price of the home and Mack Mathis of Columbia; a sister, Rose Anna Robinson of the home; 16 grandchildren, four reared in the home, Bruce Wardlaw, Freddie Wardlaw and Carla Wardlaw of Greenwood and Mack Wardlaw of Edgefield; and 20 great-grandchildren.
The family is at the home.
Services will be announced by Percival-Tompkins Funeral Home.

W. Jake Thomas Sr.
PROMISED LAND — Willie Jake Thomas Sr., 84, of 3728 McCormick Highway, husband of Mary Ellen Hackett Thomas, died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Greenwood County, he was a son of the late Willie Jacob and Viola Thomas. He was a retiree of Greenwood Mills Mathews Plant, a former employee of Greenwood County School District 50 and an employee of Promised Land Grocery. A member of Second Mount Moriah Baptist Church, he was a former church custodian and a member of the Men’s Adult Sunday School Class.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Willie Jake Thomas Jr. of Promised Land and George Thomas of Greenwood; four daughters, Mrs. Jessie Allen (Jannie) Jones and Mrs. Charlie (JoAnn) Howzell, both of Promised Land, Betty Thomas and Mrs. Eddie (Mamie) Callaham, both of Greenwood; a half sister, Mamie Helen Clark of Washington , D.C.; 23 grandchildren, six reared in the home, Stephanie Shelton and Corey Thomas, both of Greenwood, Consquela Herd, Crystal Thomas, Felicia Thomas and Michael Thomas, all of Promised Land; 36 great-grandchildren, one reared in the home, Randall Gilliam of Promised Land.
The family is at the home.
Services will be announced by Robinson & Son Mortuary Inc.

James ‘Bus’ Waldrup
James “Bus” Waldrup, 68, of 1123 Central Ave., husband of Peggy Freeman Waldrup, died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003 at his home. Born in Hodges, he was a son of the late Earnest Smith and Martha Jane Cureton. He was a retiree of Greenwood Mills Warehouse and a member of Mars Hill Baptist Church. He was first married to the late Lucille Belcher Waldrup. Survivors include his wife of the home; three sons, James Russell Waldrup of Hodges, Curtis Waldrup of the home and Michael Waldrup of Greenwood; a stepson, Clarence Belcher of Greenwood; four daughters, Mrs. Anthony (Gloria Jean) Boozer of Abbeville, Mrs. Patrick (Terry) Dial, Sheila Marie Waldrup and Mary Ann Waldrup, all of Hodges; two brothers, Cater Cureton of Evanston, Ill., and June Waldrup of Asheville, N.C.; two half brothers, Luther Smith of Atlanta and Barry Smith of Greenwood; three sisters, Lenora Payne of Asheville, Betty Johnson of Chicago and Johnnie Mae Mathis of Evanston; a half sister, Valire Smith of Hodges; 12 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; a step-great-grandchild; and a godson of the home, Kenric Bland. The family is at the home and at the home of his daughter Mrs. Patrick (Terry) Dial, 1023 Flatwood Road, Hodges. Services will be announced by Robinson & Son Mortuary Inc.

Bessie Mae Dugger
BRONX, N.Y. — Bessie Mae Holloway Dugger, of 1218 Boston Road, wife of James Dugger, died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2003 in Bronx.
Born in Greenwood, S.C., she was a daughter of the late Eliyah and Willie Mae McManus Holloway.
Survivors include her husband of the home; a son, Arnold Dugger of Philadelphia; two sisters, Annie Mae Chappell and Isabella Norman, both of Greenwood; and a grandson.
Services will be in New York.

Barry M. Readling
HODGES — Barry Madison Readling, 49, of Hodges, died Tuesday, January 14, 2003 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC. Born May 20, 1953, he was the son of Martha Ann Washam Readling of Cornelius, NC and the late James Madison Readling. In addition to being a member of North Side Baptist in Greenwood, he was a member of the South Carolina Waterfowl Association, Greenwood Cycling Club, and South Carolina Nurserymen’s Association. He was a 1975 graduate of Clemson University with a B.S. in Horticulture and was employed with Environmental Landscaping, Inc. Barry was a dedicated father. He loved hunting, fishing and the outdoors and was a great conservationist.
In addition to his mother, Martha Ann, survivors include his wife, Nancy Thrailkill Readling of Hodges; daughters, Ashleigh Gray Readling of Clemson, and Laura Peden Readling of Hodges; brothers, James Rodney Readling and Bryan Thomas Readling, both of Davidson, NC; sister, Lynne Readling Swing of Mooresville, NC; and 4 nieces and 3 nephews.
A memorial service will be held 1:00 pm Saturday, January 18, 2003 at North Side Baptist Church.
A reception will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the “FUNB, Ashleigh and Laura Readling Scholastic Fund,” c/o First Union National Bank, 1000 Montague Ave., Greenwood, SC 29649.

Marvin Woodson Sr.
PELZER — Marvin Clarence Woodson Sr., 91, widower of Sarah Margaret Stoner Woodson, formerly of 856 Beech Springs Road, died Thursday, Jan. 16, 2003 at National Health Care in Anderson.
Born in Pelzer, he was a son of the late Henry Franklin and Florence Massey Woodson. He was a retired businessman and a member of Beech Springs Tabernacle.
Survivors include three sons, William J. Woodson of Belton, Dr. Marvin C. Woodson Jr. of Spartanburg and Henry T. Woodson of Landrum; four daughters, Betty Darby of Greenwood, Irene Revis of Pelzer, Mildred Snyder of Greenville and Joy Poore of Belton; 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Services are 3 p.m. Saturday at Beech Springs Tabernacle, conducted by the Revs. Eric Boggs and Shane Elrod. Burial is in Cedar Shoals Baptist Church Cemetery.
Visitation is 1-2:45 Saturday at the church.
Family members are at their respective homes.
Memorials may be made to Beech Springs Tabernacle Building Fund.
Cox Funeral Home is in charge.
