Betty Pulley
WATERLOO — Betty Jones Pulley, 63, of 5150 Marshal Manor, died Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003 at Self Regional Medical Center in Greenwood.
Born in Oconee County, she was a daughter of the late Floyd and Emily Crumpton Jones. She had been an employee of Mount Vernon Mills. She was a member of Mount Gallagher Baptist Church and the W.M.U. and a volunteer with Self Memorial Auxiliary, Greenwood.
Survivors include two sons, Ray Pulley and David Pulley, both of Ware Shoals; two daughters, Sherry Pulley of Laurens and Joan Moosa of Long Island, N.Y.; a brother, Jimmy Jones of Greenwood; a sister, Elizabeth Watts of Waterloo; and five grandchildren.
Services are 2 p.m. Saturday at Mount Gallagher Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Marcus Bishop and the Revs. T.T. Faucette and George Leagans. The body will be placed in the church at 12:30. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are Ken Hodges, Joe Pulley, Norman Pulley, Steve Carruth, Steve McWhorter, Randy Jones and Kirk Woods.
Visitation is 6-8 tonight at Parker-White Funeral Home.
The family is at the home of Ray Pulley, 13481 Indian Mound Road, Ware Shoals.
Memorials may be made to Mount Gallagher Baptist Church Bus Fund, 11828 Indian Mound Road, Ware Shoals, SC 29692.

Marion Symes Walker
NINETY SIX — Marion Symes Walker, retired chief petty officer, 71, of Cabin Mill Road, died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003 at the Veterans Hospital in Augusta, Ga.
Born in Greenwood, he was a son of the late Thomas L. Walker Sr. and Sally Sanders Walker. He retired from the Navy and was a Vietnam veteran. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include four sisters, Margaret Davis of Saluda, Mary Dowis of Ninety Six, Jean Walker of Louisville, Ky., and Jessie Walker of Waterloo.
Services are 4 p.m. today at Harley Funeral Home, conducted by Dr. Robin Fisher. Burial is in Elmwood Cemetery, with full military rites.
Visitation is 3-4 today at the funeral home.
The family is at the homes of sisters Jessie Walker, 346 Ferry Landing, Waterloo and Mary Dowis, 103 Dogwood Drive, Ninety Six.
Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Helen Branyon
HONEA PATH — Helen Adell Ashley Branyon, 87, of West Greer Street, widow of Calvin C. Branyon, died Thursday, January 23, 2003, at Anderson Area Medical Center.
Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Jasper B.C. and Minnie Hanks Ashley. She was retired from the Honea Path Shirtmakers. She was a member of Keowee Baptist Church, when she had taught the Beginners Sunday School Class for 25 years. Mrs. Ashley, was twice married, first to the late Marvin Harold Ashley.
Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara (Bunny) and Tommy Campbell of Honea Path. She was predeceased by a son, James Larry Ashley, a brother, Clyde Ashley, Sr., and by three sisters, Lydia E. Ashley, Addie Bell Branyon, and Winnie Frances Shirley. Mrs. Branyon was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday at Keowee Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Mize and Rev. Tony Hayden officiating. Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories.
The body is at Pruitt Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday. The body will be placed in the church at 2:00 p.m. Sunday. The family is at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Tommy Campbell, 808 West Greer St., Honea Path.

Mattie Jane Wells Butler
NINETY SIX — Mattie Jane Wells Butler, 88, widower of Floyd Butler, of 219 Park Street, died January 24, 2003, at NHC in Greenwood.
Mrs. Butler was born in Greenwood, a daughter of the late Sam Benjamin Wells, and the late Iva Goldman Stewart. She was formerly employed with Greenwood Mills Ninety Six Plant. She was a member of the Ninety Six Pentecostal Holiness Church where she attended the Adult Sunday School Class #3.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Floyd Leon and Frances Butler of Ridgeway, SC; daughters and son-in-law, Martha Ann and O’Neil B. Young, and Betty Lou B. Jones, all of Ninety Six; nine grandchildren, and nineteen great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Butler will be conducted Sunday, January 26, 2003, at 4 PM at the Ninety Six Pentecostal Church. The Reverend Ben Edwards will officiate. Interment will follow at Elmwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Mrs. Butler’s grand-sons; Hershel C. Young, Floyd Allard Young, Michael Thomas Young, Timothy Butler Jones, Edward Thomas Jones, Richard Leon Jones, David Lee Butler, and Floyd Wilson Butler. Honorary Pallbearers will be Roy Horne, Charles Brown, Ernest Nunn, Steve Brown, Early Gunnels, Larry Rogers, and Dr. Michael Bryant.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 7:00 9:00 PM at Harley Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the Ninety Six Pentecostal Holiness Church.

William W. Clardy
ABBEVILLE — William W. Clardy, 64, of 106 Henry M. Turner St., died Friday, Jan. 24, 2003 at his home.
Born in Greenwood County, he was husband of Rosia Lomax Clardy and a son of the late Alice Barnmore and James Clardy Sr. He was a retired employee of Springs Chiquola Plant and a member of Good Hope Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of Due West; two sons, Perry Clardy of Due West and Marion Lomax of Belton; two daughters, Shandal Boggs of Donalds and Albertine Brownlee of Due West; a brother, James Clardy of Abbeville; a sister, Daisy Carolyn Sanders of Hodges; a grandson of the home, Casernova Conner; and four other grandchildren.
The family is at the home of his daughter Shandal Boggs, 211 E. Main St., Donalds.
Services will be announced by Brown and Walker Funeral Home.

William D. Jordan
ANDERSON — William D. Jordan, 71, of 3107 McCullum Ave., husband of Peggy Gentry Jordan, died Friday, Jan. 24, 2003 at Anderson Area Medical Center.
Born in Toccoa, Ga., he was a son of the late George and Emily Mae Kelly Jordan. He was an Army Korean War veteran and a retired supervisor from School District 50.
Survivors include his wife of the home; a daughter, Cindy Stewart and two sons, Eddie Lee Duncan and Gary Ray Duncan, all of Anderson; a sister, Jannie Sartin of Greenwood; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services are 2 p.m. Sunday at Emerald City Church of God, Greenwood, conducted by the Revs. Tim Taylor, J.T. Moore and Randy Ouzts. Burial is in Elmwood Cemetery, Ninety Six.
Pallbearers are Danny Stewart, Dale Jordan, Gary Ray Duncan, Chris Hughes, Kenny Turner and Tim Smith.
The men of the church are honorary escorts.
Visitation is 7-9 tonight at Harley Funeral Home.
The family is at his daughter’s home, 3107 McCullum Ave., Anderson, and at the home of his sister, 1010 McNeil St., Greenwood.

A.P. Williams Jr.
Albert “A.P.” “Red” Williams Jr., 69, 101 Stonehaven Drive, husband of Aggie Jane Holloway Williams, died Friday, Jan. 24, 2003 at Hospice of the Upstate, Anderson.
Born in Greenwood County, he was a son of the late A.P. Williams Sr. and Mattie Moore Williams. He was a former employee of Calvin Kinard Pulpwood and a member of Old Mount Zion Baptist Church, Epworth.
Survivors include his wife of Columbia; a son, Rickey Franklin Williams of Greenwood; three stepsons, James Edward Williams and Bruce Stewart, both of Greenwood and Robert Williams of Columbia; four daughters, Delores Morgan, Sarah Jane Carter, Virginia Williams and Angelina Williams, all of Greenwood; a stepdaughter, Kim Williams of Greenwood; 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
The family is at the home of his daughter Delores Morgan, 104 Hilley Ave.
Services will be announced by Robinson & Son Mortuary Inc.

Milwee C. Williams
PHILADELPHIA — Milwee Carroll Williams, wife of Henry Williams, died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003 at her home.
Born in Greenwood, S.C., she was a daughter of the late J.T. and Josephine Carter Carroll. She graduated from Brewer High School in 1954.
Survivors include her husband of the home; three sons, Michael Williams, Randy Williams and Henry Williams Jr., all of Philadelphia; two daughters, Josephine Vacanpi of Virginia and Denise Williams of Sun City, Calif.; a brother, James Carroll of Philadelphia; three sisters, Susana Smith and Bettye J. Carroll, both of Philadelphia and June Wrapp of Greenwood, S.C.; nine grandchildren.
Services are Wednesday in Philadelphia.
Ray Funeral Home is in charge.

Martha Wilson
NORTH AUGUSTA — Martha Ann Miller Wilson, 47, formerly of Hodges, died Friday, Jan. 24, 2003 at Anne Maria Nursing Center in North Augusta.
Born in Abbeville County, she was a daughter of Jerry Miller and the late Susie Wilson Miller. She had attended Rose of Sharon Holiness Church, Hodges.
Survivors include her father and stepmother, Dorothy Miller, of Hodges; two brothers, Victor Miller of Simpsonville and Jerry Miller Jr. of Greenville; and four sisters, Lucille Agnew of Hodges, Lorraine Burt, Sandra Nickerson and Lisa Minyard, all of Greenwood.
The family is at the home of her sister Lorraine Burt, 140 Weimer Circle, Greenwood.
Services will be announced by Robinson-Walker Funeral Service, Ware Shoals.

Woodrow W. Calhoun
McCORMICK — Services for Woodrow W. “Sweetney” Calhoun are 2 p.m. Tuesday at Shiloh A.M.E. Church, conducted by Pastor Rev. Carey Grady, the Revs. Albert G. Bell, Glen Mims and Bobby Chiles. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Burial is in Overbrook Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Kurtis Dansby, Chester Blackwell, Ricky Talbert, Talmadge Lomax, Freddie Sibert and James Rodgers.
The family is at the home of his daughter, Highway 378 E.
Walker Funeral Home is in charge.

William W. Clardy
ABBEVILLE — Services for William W. “Bill” Clardy, of 106 Henry M. Turner St., are 2 p.m. Tuesday at Good Hope Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. Stanley Haltiwananger, Linda Posley, James H. Kay and Larry Nelson. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m.
Burial is in Oakbrook Memorial Park.
Pallbearers are Pete Arnold, Robert Chamberlin, George Devlin, Leroy London, Ervin Jones and William Power.
Flower bearers are nieces.
The family is at the home of his daughter, Shandal Boggs, 211 E. Main St., Donalds.
Brown and Walker Funeral Home is in charge.

Elaine A. Davis
SENECA — Rosa Elaine Abercrombie Davis, 60, of 620 Tanglewood Drive, died Sunday, January 26, 2003 at her home.
Mrs. Davis was born in Oconee County, daughter of Mrs. Lillie Mae Duncan Abercrombie of Seneca and the late Jerome Henry Abercrombie. Mrs. Davis retired from the Oconee County School District where she taught at J.N. Kellett Elementary School. She was a member of the Church of the Ascension, Episcopal.
Surviving are in addition to her mother are three sons: Michael Jerome Davis of Norfolk, VA, Richard Duncan Davis of Greenville and Stephen Andrew Davis of Greenwood, one grandson, John Henry Davis.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:30 PM on Wednesday in the Chapel of Seneca Mortuary by Dr. Jim Mizell. Interment will follow in Oconee Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 PM on Tuesday evening at the mortuary.
The family is at the home.

Robert Halterman Jr.
SENECA — Robert Lee Halterman Jr., 50, of 250 Saluda Road, died Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003 at Oconee Memorial Hospital.
Born in Aiken, he was a son of Robert L. and JoAnn Lynnette Halterman. He was a 1971 graduate of Greenwood High School, a former employee of Duke Power and an owner operator of Freedom Lawn Service, Seneca.
Survivors include his parents of Greenwood; a son, Matthew Russell Beasley of Rock Hill; a daughter, Casey Leigh Halterman of Taylors; three sisters, Deborah Williams and Linda Bowen, both of Williamston and LeeAnn Bolt of Myrtle Beach.
Services are 3 p.m. Tuesday at Bethlehem United Methodist Church, Coronaca, conducted by the Revs. Tommy Tucker and Harvey Peurifoy. The body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Burial is in Bethlehem Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Donald Williams, Mickey Bowen, Tony Bolt, Stu Scully, Ray Nault and Jim Sevic.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at Blyth Funeral Home.
The family is at the home of his parents, 132 Mount Shore Drive, Greenwood.
Memorials may be made to HospiceCare of the Piedmont, 408 W. Alexander Ave., Greenwood, S.C. 29646. Blyth Funeral Home is in charge.
