Sarah M. Lance, 85, of 115 Young St., died Wednesday, March 19, 2003 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of the late Vance W. and Louise Arnold Lance. She was employed with Self Memorial Hospital until retiring in 1981. She was a member of Callie Self Memorial Baptist Church and the Callie Self Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star No. 199.
Survivors include a brother, Paul H. Lance of Wichita Falls, Texas .
Graveside services are 2 p.m. Sunday in Greenwood Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Leland Scott.
Visitation is 7-9 tonight at Blyth Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Callie Self Memorial Baptist Church, 509 Kirksey Drive, Greenwood, SC 29646.

Larry Roberts
NINETY SIX — Larry O. Roberts, 60, of 206 Hamilton Road, died Thursday, March 20, 2003 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Greenwood, he was a son of Vivian Horne Goldman and the late Guy Roberts. He was retired from Greenwood Mills, Mathews Plant, where he was a member of the Quarter Century Club. He was a member of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church and the Men’s Sunday School Class.
Surviving is his mother of Bradley; two daughters, Traci Lewis of Swansea and Eugenia Robinson of Greenwood; a sister, Pam Hammond of Bradley; a brother, William Goldman of Bradley; and six grandchildren, Andrea Crawford, Richard Burnett, Jessica Robbs, Timothy Mulkins, Brian Robinson and Anna Lewis.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Bob Napier officiating.
Pallbearers will be Douglas Abney, Jason Abney, Eric Abney, Jeff Rushton, William Crawford and Karl Burnett.
Honorary escort will be the men of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church.
The family is at the home.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 1741, Greenwood, SC 29648.

Margaret Smith
DONALDS — Margaret Simmons Smith, 90, formerly of 355 Highway 178 N., widow of James M. Smith, died Thursday, March 20, 2003 at Magnolia Manor in Greenwood.
Born in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of the late Grady and Nannie Mae King Simmons. She retired from Honea Path Shirtmakers and was a member of Donalds Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Dorothy Vaughn of Donalds; a brother, Curtis Simmons of Williamston; four grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services are 3 p.m. today at Donalds Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. Jerry Hill and Hal Freeman. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Visitation is 1:30-2:30 today at the church.
The family is at the home of her daughter, Dot Vaughn, 325 Highway 178 N.
Memorials may be made to Donalds Baptist Church, P.O. Box 91, Donalds, SC 29638.

Ethel C. Thomas
Ethel Crenshaw Thomas, 83, of 1503 Deadfall Road, widow of Boyce Thomas, died Friday, March 21, 2003 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Greenwood County, she a daughter of the late John and Ada Mosley Crenshaw. She was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church, Ninety Six, where she was a deaconess and a musician.
She was the last member of her immediate family. Survivors include cousins.
Services will be announced by Robinson & Son Mortuary Inc.

Sam Boggs
WARE SHOALS — Sam Boggs, 96, widower of Mary Burton Thomas Boggs, of 12 Circle St., died Saturday, March 22, 2003 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Anderson County, he was a son of the late James Alfred Boggs. He was twice married, first to the late Eula Mae Taylor Boggs. He was retired from Riegel Textile Co. and a veteran of the Navy, World War II. He was a member of the Ware Shoals Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Survivors include two sons, Cecil Boggs and James Boggs of Ware Shoals; a daughter, Julia Mae Young of Honea Path; a stepson, Larry Thomas of Hodges; a stepdaughter, Pat Hughes of Hodges; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m.
Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Ware Shoals Pentecostal Holiness Church conducted by the Revs. John Phillips, William Patterson and Ray Boggs. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Visitation is 7-9 tonight at Parker-White Funeral Home.
The family is at the home.

Ethel Burdette
ABBEVILLE — Ethel Timms Burdette, 79, of 110 Philips St., widow of Charles I. Burdette, died Saturday, March 22, 2003 at Abbeville County Memorial Hospital.
Born in Greenville, she was a daughter of the late J.B. and Pauline Crawford Timms. She was a retired textile employee of Mathews Mill in Greenwood and was a member of the Abbeville Congregational Holiness Church.
Survivors include two sons, Charles M. “ Kilroy” Burdette of Villa Rica, Ga., Jimmy Ray “Tadpole” Burdette of Abbeville; two daughters, Linda J. Suddeth of Hodges, Gloria B. Bond of Abbeville; three sisters, Marie Clark of Raleigh, N.C., Martha Hoertz of Abbeville, Betty R. Bowie of Abbeville; two brothers, Fred Lee Timms, Fountian Inn, S.C., Charles Rayford Timms of Seneca, S.C.; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services are 3 p.m. Tuesday at Abbeville Congregational Holiness Church conducted by the Rev. Tye Sorrow.
Burial is in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Abbeville.
Visitation is 6:30-8 tonight at the Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home.
The family is at the home of her daughter, Mr. & Mrs. William E. Bond, 200 Haigler St., Abbeville.

Miriam W. N. Byrd
CLINTON — Miriam W. Neighbors Byrd, 69, of 1157 Shady Grove Church Road, died Saturday, March 22, 2003 at her home.
Born in Ninety Six, she was a daughter of the late Obie Richard and Lois Launa McKee Willingham.
She was a member of Hurricane Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, C. Wayne Byrd of the home; three daughters, Robin Taylor of Tega Cay, S.C., Beth Shealy of Clinton, Marcia Young of Greenwood; two brothers, Obie Willingham Jr. of New Bern, N.C., Rev. Jerald M. Willingham of Horseshoe, N.C.; a sister, Betty Hughes of Enterprise, Ala.; seven grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert A. Neighbors.
Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hurricane Baptist Church.
Visitation is 10-11 a.m. in the church fellowship hall.

Edd Golubski Jr.
Edward G. Golubski Jr., 57, of 707 Stanley Ave., Apt. 11, died Thursday, March 20, 2003 at his home.
Born in Greenwood, he was a son of the late Edward G. Sr. and Mildred McGee Golubski. He was a graduate of Greenwood High School and Clemson University where he received a master’s degree in English. He was an English instructor at Piedmont Technical College and was previously employed by Self Memorial Hospital (now Self Regional Medical Center).
Survivors include a daughter, Holly G. King of Florence; three sisters, Sandra G. Ketchie of Anderson, Dianne G. Kuykendall of Dubois, Wyo. and Paula G. Workman of San Antonio, TX; and one granddaughter.
Services are 3 p.m. today at Blyth Funeral Home conducted by the Rev. Bob Piephoff.
Visitation is 2-3 p.m. today at Blyth Funeral Home.
The family requests that memorials be made to the charity of one’s choice.

JOHNSTON — Ellen Robertson, widow of Claude Robertson, died Saturday, March 22, 2003 at Edgefield County Hospital.
Born in McCormick, she was a daughter of the late Moses and Sarah Brown Zimmerman. She lived most of her life in Plum Branch. She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include five daughters, Mrs. Johnnie Lee Prescott of Greenwood, Mrs. Sarah L. King of Ft. Pierce, Fla., Mrs. Emma Jean Robertson of Johnston, Mrs. Mildred Battle of Tignall, Ga. and Mrs. Barbara Ann Robertson of Plum Branch; three sons, Claude Robertson of McCormick, James Robertson of Augusta, Ga. and Leroy Robertson of Columbia; two brothers, Moses Zimmerman of Greenville and Robert Zimmerman of Florida.
The family is at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Emma J. Robertson, 644 Ridge Road, Johnston.
Services will be announced by Walker Funeral Home.

BRADLEY — Services for Dorise L. Talbert will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Tranquil A.M.E. Church in Troy, S.C. conducted by the Rev. Derrick Scott. Burial is in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at noon.
Pallbearers and flower bearers are church officers.
The family is at the home of her sister, Mrs. Ella Ware on Dowtin Road., McCormick.

Annie Ola Taylor
Annie Ola Taylor, 90, died Friday, March 21, 2003 at NHC Healthcare Center of Greenwood.
Born in Cokesbury, she was a daughter of the late Azalee and James “Jim” Young of Greenwood. She was a graduate of Brewer Normal and Florida A & M University in Tallahassee, Fla. She taught at Sterling High School, North Hodges and West Hodges elementary schools, retiring from Greenwood School District Number 50 after 33 years. She was a 4-H Club leader, a member of Weston Chapel A.M.E. Church where she served on the Steward and Stewardess Boards, Willing Workers, Missionary Society and secretary. She was a member of the Charmelette Club and Yellow Jasmine Garden Club.
Survivors include a son, Chester “Joey’ Taylor III of Greenwood; a daughter, Sandra Ann Taylor of Forest Park, Ill.; a brother, James E. “Jim” of Cokesbury; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services are 1 p.m. Wednesday at Evening Star Memorial Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Willie Neal Norman Jr.
Visitation is 6-7 p.m. Tuesday at Robinson & Son Mortuary Inc.
Memorials may be made to the Weston Chapel A.M.E. Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 571, Greenwood, S.C. 29648.
