Lartessa S. Kinard
Lartessa Sellet Kinard, 28, of 909 Chappell St., died Wednesday, April 16, 2003 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of John Carol Kinard and Audrey McGrier Kinard. She was employed by Self Regional Health Care, X-ray Department, graduated from Greenwood High School in 1995 and received a radiology degree from Piedmont Technical College in 2002.
Survivors include her mother of the home; her father of Greenwood; a brother, McKeever Kinard of Greenwood; four sisters, Sametha Kinard, Tabitha Kinard and Tammy Kinard, all of Columbia and Tonya Kinard of Greenwood; and maternal grandfather, Sloan McGrier of Greenwood.
The family is at the home.
Services will be announced by Percival-Tompkins Funeral Home.

Cornelia Lofton
NINETY SIX — Cornelia Huff Ward Lofton, 84, of 5 Roxanna Drive, wife of Paul S. Lofton, died Wednesday, April 16, 2003 in Mount Pleasant.
Born in Greenville County, she was a daughter of the late Dr. Junius Kershaw and Sudie Rebecca Willis Huff. She was a graduate Greenwood High School and Winthrop College and did graduate work at the University of South Carolina. She taught in the Ninety Six and Greenwood public schools, retiring after 30 years as an English teacher and librarian. A member of First Baptist Church, Ninety Six, she was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was twice married, first to the late William Ray Ward.
Survivors include her husband of Greenwood; two sons, W. Ray Ward Jr. of Sullivan’s Island and Johnson H. Ward of San Antonio; a sister, Eleanor H. McNeill of Abbeville; two grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Blyth Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Steve Justice. Burial is in Elmwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers are John Towles, Ray Berry, Louden Butler Jr., John Drummond, Bruce Smith, Chuck Shick, Bo Werts and Temple Lamar.
Visitation is 10-11 Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to The Alzheimer’s Association, Upstate SC Chapter, 521 McDuffie St., Anderson, SC 29621 or to a charity of one’s choice.

Mildred Ware Long
ANDERSON — Mildred “Millie” Ware Long, 95, formerly of 223 E. Benson St., widow of John E. Long, died Wednesday, April 16, 2003 at Ellenburg Nursing Center.
Born in Royston, Ga., she was a daughter of the late John and Essie Bond Ware. She was a member of Chiquola Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Thomas B. Long of Hodges; a daughter, Faye L. Boggs of Anderson; a brother, Rufus Ware of Honea Path; eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Pruitt Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Ty Childers. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Visitation is 10-11 Saturday at the funeral home.
Family members are at their respective homes.

Wilton Medlock
HODGES — Wilton “Med” Medlock, 79, widower of Eleanor Robertson Medlock, died Wednesday, April 16, 2003 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Greenville County, he was a son of the late Avery and Ada Pryor Medlock and retired from Riegel Textile Corp. He was an Army World War II veteran and a member of Hodges United Methodist Church.
Survivors include three sons, James Wilton Medlock of Easley, Bobby Ray Medlock and Donnie Benton Medlock, both of Hodges; three daughters, Sue Ellen Cochran, Vickie Walker and Dorothy Harvley, all of Greenwood; two brothers, James Medlock of Honea Path and Thomas Alvin Medlock of Anderson; two sisters, Clara Gambrell and Mary Lollis, both of Honea Path; 11 grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.
Services are 2 p.m. Saturday at Hodges United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Nena Reynolds. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are Lt. Glenn Medlock, Bryan Walker, James Young, Lee Harvley, Dustin Burnett, Tim Moore, Ricky Loggins and Scotty Sherfield.
Honorary escorts are Dr. James H. Smith, Pete Godfrey, Frank Godfrey, Harold Timms and Robbie Taylor.
Visitation is 7-9 tonight at Parker-White Funeral Home.

Sue W. Patrick
ST. GEORGE — Sue Williamson Patrick, 76, of 204 Murray St., widow of Marion G. Patrick, died Thursday, April 17, 2003 at Mariner Health of Sumter.
Born in Newberry, she was a daughter of the late Anderson C. and Mary Young Williamson. She was a graduate of Whitmire High School and Lander College. She was a member of Memorial Baptist Church, where she was a music teacher, organist and a member of the Florence Lide W.M.U. Group.
Survivors include three sons, the Rev. John W. Patrick of Sumter, Frank M. Patrick of Chapin and Anderson L. Patrick of St. George; a daughter, Mrs. Barry (Christine) Tedards of Greenwood; nine grandchildren.
Services are 3 p.m. Saturday at St. George United Methodist Church, conducted by Pastor Dan Griffin and the Rev. John Patrick. Burial is in St. George Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Randy Patrick, Ron Patrick, Sammie Smith, Richard Sutcliffe, Robert Smith and Lee Dukes.
Visitation is 6-8 tonight at Bryant Funeral Home.

Virginia Stewart
COLUMBIA — Virginia Loree Bolt Stewart, 79, widow of Charles Talmadge Stewart, died Wednesday, April 16, 2003.
Born in Laurens County, she was a daughter of the late John Clardy and Bessie Blakley Bolt. A graduate of Winthrop College, she retired after 30 years as an elementary school teacher in Kershaw County. She was a member and organist of Petersen Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include three sons, Charles T. Stewart of Honduras, Kevin M. Stewart of Lawrenceville, Ga., and T. Shawn Stewart of Waynesville, N.C.; a daughter, Leslie Sanford of Greenwood; a brother, Robert Bolt of Pisgah Forest, N.C.; and nine grandchildren.
Graveside services are 11 a.m. Saturday in Forest Lawn Cemetery East, Clinton.
Memorial services are 2 p.m. Saturday at Petersen Presbyterian Church.
Visitation is 6-8 tonight at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street.

CALHOUN FALLS — Billy R. Ashmore, 46, of 313 Highway 81 S., husband of Barbara H. Ashmore, died Monday, April 21, 2003.
A son of Willie C. Smith and the late Geraldine Ashmore Smith, he was a graduate of Calhoun Falls High School and Piedmont Technical College. He was a member of Mount Olive Church of God Holiness.
Survivors include his wife of the home; his father of Calhoun Falls; two sons, Antoine Haddon and Gregory Ashmore, both of Abbeville; three daughters, Kimeka, Kimberly and Mary Ashmore, all of Abbeville; a brother, Willie J. Smith of Calhoun Falls; a sister, Delorise Smith of Calhoun Falls; two grandchildren.
Services will be announced by Abbeville and White Mortuary.

Services for Detareis Tyrese Bowman, infant son of Linda D. Searles and Willie T. Bowman, are 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Robinson & Son Mortuary, conducted by the Rev. Roderick Cummings. Burial is in Evening Star Memorial Gardens.
Visitation is this evening at his father’s home, 107 Squirrel Tree Lane, Country Homes Subdivision.

Harold E. Chiles
Harold E. Chiles, 50, of 63 Woodland Park, husband of Linda Drennon Chiles, died Monday, April 21, 2003 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Greenwood County, he was a son of the late Annie Mae Chiles and was also reared by his grandfather, the late Johnnie Childs Sr. He graduated from Greenwood High School in 1972 and was a retired Navy veteran, serving for 20 years. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife of Stone Mountain, Ga.; a daughter, Treeshay Chiles of Greenville; five brothers, Bennie Childs of McCormick, Robert Childs of the home, Johnnie Childs, Roosevelt Childs and James Childs, all of Greenwood; a sister, Mrs. Anthony (Mae) Calhoun of Greenwood.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday at Robinson & Son Mortuary, conducted by the Rev. Arthur Lee Williams. Burial is in Evening Star Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are Navy military escorts.
Flower bearers are nieces.
Honorary escorts are members of Greenwood High School Class of 1972.

McCORMICK — Bessie “Bernice” Jennings Christian, 84, widow of Otis Christian, died Tuesday, April 22, 2003 at Edgefield Health Care.
Born in McCormick County, Whitetown community, she was a daughter of the late Guy and Effie White Jennings. She was a homemaker and a member of Bethany Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Linda Christian Gable of Beaufort; a brother, Curtis Jennings of McCormick; four sisters, Alma J. White, Florence J. McKinney, Donna J. Brooks and Emogene J. Brewer, all of McCormick; two grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Services are 2 p.m. Thursday at Bethany Baptist Church, Highway 378, conducted by the Rev. C.B. Love. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 7-9 tonight at Strom Funeral Home.

John Hill
John Robert Hill, 75, of 108 Alma St., widower of Lucille Botts Hill, died Monday, April 21, 2003 at Winter Park Hospital, Winter Park, Fla.
Born in Abbeville County, he was a son of the late I.D. and Ida Mae Bonds Hall Hill. He was a World War II Navy veteran and retired from Greenwood Mills. A member of Lupo United Methodist Church, he was also a member of the Greenwood V.F.W. and a former Mason.
Survivors include two daughters, Barbara H. Ayscue of Valrico, Fla., and Marlene H. Sperry of Lancaster; a son, Michael Hill of Lake Mary, Fla.; two sisters, Tommie Mae Evans of Washington , Ga., and Pat Hall of Greenwood; eight grandchildren.
Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at Lupo United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Charles Sperry. The body will be placed in the church at 10. Burial with military rites is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are Jeffery Tanner, Michael Tanner, Paul Collins, John Scott, Ronald Southerland and Keith Sperry.
Honorary escorts are members of the V.F.W. of Greenwood.
Visitation is 6-8 tonight at Blyth Funeral Home.
