Willie C. Powell
JOHNSTON — Willie Crout Powell, 103, formerly of Rt. 2 Rocky Creek Rd., died Friday, May 17, 2002, at Saluda Nursing Center.
Born in Saluda County and a daughter of the late Jefferson and Trannie Kinard Crout, she was the widow of Otis Eugene Powell. Mrs. Powell was a retired farmer and a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church.
Surviving are 5 grandchildren and grandchildren-in-law, Eugene and Mary Lou Powell, Jr. of Columbia, Sylvia Whisenant of Johnston, William and Linda Rushton of Johnston, Brenda and Charles Eidson of Martinez, GA and Keith and Angela Rushton of Saluda, 9 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Powell was preceded in death by one son, Eugene Powell, Sr. and a daughter, Trannie P. Rushton.
Funeral services will be 3:00 PM Sunday, May 19, 2002, at Bethlehem United Methodist Church with Rev. Wayne Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 ‘til 8 PM Saturday evening at Ramey Funeral Home.

Claudia Smith
GREENWOOD — Claudia Lee Duncan Smith, 87, of 419 Morgan St., widow of Robert C. Smith, died Thursday, May 16, 2002, at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Madison County, Ga., she was a daughter of the late Clarence Wade and Eva Lee Brooks Duncan. She retired from Grendel Mill and was owner of Claudia’s Flowers. A member of New Market Baptist Church, she was a member of the Lucille Moore Sunday School Class and was active with the Tracts Ministry.
Survivors include two sons, Robert L. Smith and Terry Smith, both of Greenwood; a daughter, Marcia Fortson of Greenwood; a sister, Ada Mitchell of Greenwood; a brother, F.A. Duncan of Clinton; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services are 3 p.m. today at Harley Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Buddy Wiles. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are Ted Mitchell, Wade Mitchell, Gene Mitchell, Richard Crowe, Ray Crowe, Bill Haralson, Roger Haralson and Nolan Crowe.
Honorary escorts are members of the Lucille Moore Sunday School Class of New Market Baptist Church.
The family is at the home of a daughter, Marcia Fortson, 216 Holly Ave.

Margie Butler
GREENWOOD — Margie Brock Butler, 72, resident of 510 Milford Springs Road, widow of Curtis A. Butler died May 22, 2003 at National Health Care of Greenwood.
Born in Abbeville County, November 14, 1930, she was a daughter of the late Todd William and Emma Lou Smith Brock.
Mrs. Butler was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.
Surviving is a daughter, Mrs. Donnie (Sharon) Cooke of Greenwood, a son, Ronald C. Butler of Greenwood, five sisters, Marie Gilreath of Belton, Lois Hall, Evelyn Parris, Martha Gambrell, and Christine Johns, all of Honea Path. Three brothers, Jerry Brock of Donalds, Ollie Brock and Bruce Brock both of Honea Path, a granddaughter, Donnis Cooke of Greenwood and a nephew, Tommy Butler who was reared in the home.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:30pm Saturday from the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Terry Bonds officiating.
Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be nephews along with Patrick McGhee, Julian Campbell, Mark Cooper, Jerry Eidson.
Honorary escort will be the Nursing Staff of the Greenwood National Health Care, Station 1 along with Dr. O.M. Cobb, Dr. Richard Hunton, Odis Gray, and L.E. Mconnell.
The family is at the home of her daughter and son in law, Donnie and Sharon Cooke, 510 Milford Springs Rd. and will receive friends at the funeral home from 7-9pm Friday evening.

Twyman Garrett, Sr.
WEST PELZER — William Twyman Garrett, Sr., 78, of 112 Holliday Street, husband of Helen Garrett, died Wednesday, May 21, 2003 at Anderson Area Medical Center.
Born in Laurens county, he was a son of the late William Earl and Betty Marie Tumblin Garrett. He was twice married, first to the late Dorothy Ellen Watson Garrett, was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and served in the Air Force Reserves. He retired from the Kendall Company, was a Mason, a Shriner since 1962, and a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church.
Surviving are sons and daughters-in-law, Benny and Rhonda Garrett of Greenwood, Bill and Denise Garrett of Clover; sister, Doris Thompson of West Pelzer; sisters-in-law, Margaret Odom of Pelzer, Frances Wood of Williamston; grandchildren, Benjamin Earl Garrett, Jr. of Anderson, John Calvin Mundy of Greenwood, Jennifer E. Mundy of Ninety Six; and his best friend, Buddy Stone of West Pelzer.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Tabernacle Baptist Church by Rev. Billy Slatten and Rev. Walter Wood. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
The family is at the home and will receive friends 1-3 p.m. Saturday at the church.

Jimmie Jackson
MOUNT CARMEL — Services for Jimmie Jackson, of Fort Charlotte Road, are 1 p.m. Saturday at Harper’s Chapel Church of God Holiness, conducted by Elder Willie Morton Sr. The body will be placed in the church at noon. Burial is in the church cemetery.
The family is at the home.

Willette Kneece
WATERLOO — Eugenia Willette Bledsoe Kneece, 82, resident of 770 Isle of Pines Circle, widow of Tom Kneece died May 21, 2003 at her home.
She was born December 27, 1920 in Edgefield County, a daughter of the late Grover Cleveland and Irene Bridges Bledsoe. She was formerly of Saluda County and moved to Waterloo in 1999. She was a homemaker and a member of Reedy Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Bill (Irene K.) Fuller of Waterloo; a son, Grover P. Kneece of Fayetteville, GA; 5 grandchildren, Perry Miller, Charlie Miller, Susan Stalling, Michele Petty, and Gwen Johns; one step-grandson, Billy Fuller; ten great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth Bledsoe of Monetta, and Juanita Martinez of Ridge Spring.
Funeral services will be 2 PM Saturday, May 24, 2003, at Reedy Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church with Rev. Tommy Wooten and Rev. JC Sorrow officiating.
Burial will be in Red Bank Baptist Church Cemetery in Saluda at 4:30 p.m.
Pallbearers will be John Cockrell, Avery Davis, Richard Williams, Rex Horton, Chuck Corley, Brandon Corley, Hoyt Dorn, and Wayne Fann. Honorary escort will be her Sunday School Class.
The family is at the home of her daughter and son-in-law Irene and Bill Fuller, 770 Isle of Pines Circle, and will receive friends at Blyth Funeral Home from 7-9 p.m. Friday.

Mary Ruley
NINETY SIX — Mary Hawkins Ruley, 70, of 2610 Highway 246 South, widow of John W. Ruley, Sr., died Wednesday, May 21, 2003 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Russell County, KY, she was a daughter of the late Cyrus and Polly Higginbotham Hawkins. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ann R. Lewis.
Surviving are three daughters, Belinda Witteborg, Debbie Hasting and Johnette Calliham, all of Ninety Six; a son, John Ruley Jr. of Ninety Six; a sister, Vickie Griffin of Ninety Six; two brothers, Joe Hawkins of Greenwood and Johnny Hawkins of Ninety Six; ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Harley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Steven Crittendon officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Yurgen Harter, Ray Jackson, Doug Hastings, Jonathan Brown, Bobby Sargent, and Brant Rodgers.
Honorary escort will be Scott Kelley and Ronnie Turner.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.
The family is at the home of her daughter, Belinda Witteborg, 2501 Highway 246 South, Ninety Six.

Pamela Simmons
SALUDA — Pamela Clarissa Smith Simmons, 44, of 418 N. Jefferson St., wife of Robert Herbert Simmons, died Thursday, May 22, 2003 at Self Regional Medical Center in Greenwood.
Born in Fairfield County, she was a daughter of Joyce Jeannette Windham Mitchell and the late Harold Lloyd Smith. She was a former employee of Time Warner Cable, Columbia, and a member of Emmanuel Church.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Amanda Danielle Simmons of the home; her mother and stepfather, Edward Mitchell, of Saluda; a brother, Steve Smith of Little Mountain; a sister, Tammy Moore of Lugoff; three stepsisters, Janet Holley and Cindy Corley, both of Ninety Six and Suzie Sanders of Greenwood.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Emmanuel Church, conducted by the Rev. Burton Campbell. Burial is in Oaklawn Cemetery, Winnsboro.
Visitation is 6-8 tonight at Ramey Funeral Home.
The family is her mother’s home, 107 Boland Circle.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Ulysee B. Anderson
GLENSIDE, Pa. — Ulysee Butler Anderson, 85, widow of David Elijah Anderson, died Monday, May 26, 2003 at the home of a daughter.
Born in Greenwood County, S.C., she was a daughter of the late Louis and Vera Jones Butler. She was a member and deaconess of Little River Baptist Church in Ware Shoals, S.C.
Survivors include a daughter, Vera Sousa of Glenside; a sister, Odysee Swindler of Philadelphia; six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Services are 1 p.m. Saturday at Little River Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Sylvester Jackson. Body will be placed in the church at 11 a.m. Burial is in Cokesbury, S.C.
Visitation is 11-1 Saturday at the church.
The family is at the home of a granddaughter, Jerrie Sanders Warren, 9199 Highway 184, Donalds, S.C.

Daniel Ashmore
HODGES — Daniel Jordan Ashmore, 50, husband of Shirley Sanders Ashmore, of 7219 Highway 25 North, died Monday in Chattanooga, Tn.
Born in Greenwood County he was a son of Lois Hayes Wood and the late Clarence Monroe Ashmore. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was employed by Fleetwood Homes of Hixon, Tn.
Surviving are his mother of Hodges, his wife of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Todd and Stephanie Ashmore of Hodges; one daughter, Tara Ashmore of Charleston; one sister, Nancy Locklear of North Charleston; three brothers, Donnie Ashmore of Laurens, Lonnie Ashmore of Fayettville, N.C., and Kenny Ashmore of Mountville; two grandchildren, Cody Ashmore and Hannah Ashmore, both of Hodges, and stepmother, Jenny Ashmore of Laurens. He was predeceased by a brother, David Ashmore.
Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Saturday, May 31, 2003 at Parker-White Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Leon Jones officiating. Entombment will follow in Oakbrook Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. Friday at Parker-White Funeral Home, Ware Shoals. The family is at the home.

Lynn Jackson
WATERLOO — Errol Lynn Jackson, 62, of 144 Shaw Court, husband of Sharon Duncan Jackson, died Wednesday, May 28, 2003 at Grace Hospital in Morganton, N.C.
Born in Greenwood, he was a son of Gaston Lawrence and Erma Smith Jackson. He was formerly employed by Community Cash in Greenwood and was a member of Lowell Street United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife of the home; his parents of Greenwood; three sons, David A. Jackson of Greenwood, Steven Jackson and Bobby Ray Jackson, both of Waterloo; two daughters, Kathy Adkins of Marion, N.C., and April Jackson of Waterloo; a goddaughter reared in the home, Kandy All of Abbeville; a brother, Travis Jackson of Raleigh, N.C.; and six grandchildren.
Graveside services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Greenwood Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Revs. Bob Allen and Joe Nicholson.
The family is at the home.
