Marion McClain
Marion William McClain, 83, of 122 Heather Lane, husband of Mary Simmons McClain, died Wednesday, May 28, 2003, at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Greenwood County, he was a son of the late Willie Cornelius and Minnie Gilmer McClain. He was an Army World War II veteran. He was employed by Blyth Funeral Home and formerly employed by Harris Funeral Home, Abbeville, for 34 years. He was also a former employee of Greenwood Mills, Mathews Plant and Harley Funeral Home. A member of Grace United Methodist Church in Abbeville, he was a member of the Men’s Bible Class and former president of the Methodist Men. He was a member and past governor of Greenwood Moose Lodge 834, Greenwood Lions Club member and former member and past president of Abbeville Lions Club. He was a member of Mathews Masonic Lodge 358, the Hejaz Shrine Center, a member and past president of Greenwood Shrine Club, a member and president of the Travelers Protective Association (TPA), a Clemson IPTAY Club member and a Gideon. For many years, he umpired for the Old Carolina Central League, Little League, High School and American Legion Post 20 baseball.
Survivors include his wife of the home; a brother, Gilbert Y. McClain of Salisbury, N.C.; and a sister, Reba M. Williamson of Hodges.
Services are 2 p.m. Saturday at Blyth Funeral Home, conducted by the Revs. Darin Hook and David Templeton. Burial with Masonic Rites is in Oakbrook Memorial Park.
Pallbearers are Blyth Funeral Home staff members.
Honorary escorts are Greenwood Hejaz Shriners, members of American Legion Post 20 and Greenwood Moose Lodge 834, along with James Dewey McClain Jr., Dwight Mobley, Ralph Mobley, Randy Smith, Danny Goodman, Mike Byrd, Dr. Russell Hall and Furman Ponder.
Visitation is 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.
The family is at the home.
Memorials may be made to Grace United Methodist Church Bus Fund, 100 East Greenwood St., Abbeville, SC 29620 or the Shriner’s Hospital, 950 W. Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605.

Mattie Pace
HODGES — Mattie Lou Cannon Pace, 95, formerly of Hodges, widow of Lewis Guy Pace, died Wednesday, May 28, 2003 at National Health Care of Anderson.
A native of Hall County, Ga., she was a daughter of the late John C. and Mittie Brown Cannon and stepdaughter of the late Berry David Rutledge. She was a homemaker and a member of Oakwood Baptist Church in Anderson.
Survivors include three sons, Clarence E. “Bill” Pace of Greenville, Guy Franklin Pace of Redding, Calif., and James Carlton Pace of Hodges; a daughter, Mary Pace Webb of Belton; 18 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren.
Services are 4 p.m. Sunday at Oakwood Baptist Church, Anderson. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are grandsons.
Visitation is 6-8 Saturday at Parker-White Funeral Home, Ware Shoals.
Family members are at their respective homes.
Parker-White Funeral Home is in charge.

George H. Patterson
McCORMICK — George Harvey “Dip” Patterson, 65, died Wednesday, May 28, 2003 at his home.
Born in Lincoln County, Ga., he was a son of Annie Williams. He was a member of Mount Zion A.M.E. Church and a retired logger.
Survivors include his mother of Brooklyn, N.Y.; five sons, Charles Patterson of McCormick, Dexter Patterson of Due West, Jesse Taylor of Columbia, Anthony Norman of Abbeville and Corey Martin of Honea Path; four daughters, Linda Patterson of McCormick, Teresa Adams of Greenwood, Brenda Jones of Abbeville and Roselyn Patterson of Anderson; two sisters, Loretta Young and Irene Wilson, both of Brooklyn; a brother, James Williams of Brooklyn; 31 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
The family is at the home, Route 1, Box 28, Troy, in McCormick County.
Services will be announced by Walker Funeral Home.

Nicholas Erneston
AUGUSTA, Ga. — Dr. Nicholas Erneston, 81, formerly of Boone, N.C., husband of Elaine Browning Erneston, died Monday, June 2, 2003 at St. Joseph Hospital.
A native of Salisbury, N.C., he was a son of the late Costa and Danay Amintou Erneston and had lived in Augusta for the past 10 years. He was first married to the late Elsie H.D. Erneston. He graduated from Boyden High School, Salisbury, received a bachelor’s degree in violin in 1942 from Shenandoah Conservatory of Music, Dayton, Va., and received a master’s degree in violin and research at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, Ohio, in 1948. He received a doctorate degree in music at Florida State University in 1961 as a Danforth scholar. He served in the Army Air Corps from 1942-46 with the 51st Control Squadron and served in India and Burma. Appointed to the music department at Appalachian State University in 1948, he became the first dean of the College of Fine and Applied Arts in 1968 and retired in June 1992. He authored many articles and papers and was a member of Winston-Salem N.C. Symphony Orchestra, Hickory, N.C. Symphony Orchestra and Roanoke, Va. Symphony Orchestra, serving as assistant concertmaster and appearing as a soloist several times. Professional affiliations included the N.C. Orchestra Association, N.C. Music Education Association, National School Orchestra Association and the AAUP. In 1992, he was awarded the status of professor emeritus.
Survivors include his wife of Augusta; a brother, George Erneston of Greenwood, S.C.; a sister, Mary Erneston Savvas of High Point, N.C.; two daughters, Maria Erneston Hendershott of Houston and Elsie Hogue Erneston of Charlotte, N.C.; three grandchildren; and two stepchildren, Robert Curtis Browning and Kathryn Browning Goff, both of Augusta.
Visitation is 7-9 tonight at Platt’s Funeral Home.
Graveside services are 11 a.m. Thursday in Westover Memorial Park, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Robert Taylor.
Memorial services are 2 p.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church, Boone, N.C., conducted by Dr. Tom Davis, with visitation after the services at the church.
Memorials may be made in Dr. Erneston’s name to the Erneston Music Library Endowment, the Hayes School of Music, ASU, Box 32096, Boone, N.C. 28608.

Harold Koon
HODGES — Harold Ryan Koon, 63, of 1703 Morgan Road, died Monday, June 2, 2003 at his home.
Born in Greenwood County, he was a son of the late Butler Edward and Mary Edna May Koon. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include two sons, Michael Koon of Donalds and Ryan Koon of Spring City, Tenn.; a daughter, Adrienne Koon of Spring City; two brothers, Ronnie Koon of Alexander City, Ala., and Terry Koon of Ware Shoals.
Graveside services are 2 p.m. today in Ware Shoals Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Wayne Wicker. Visitation is after the services at the cemetery.
The family is at the home of Terry Koon, 35-B Greenacres Drive.

John Krause
John Thomas Krause, retired Marine Corps master sergeant, 49, of 104 Birch Trail, husband of Sammie Ann Calvert Krause, died Monday, June 2, 2003 at St. Francis Hospital in Greenville.
Visitation is 6-8 Thursday at Blyth Funeral Home.
The family is at the home.
Services will be announced by Blyth Funeral Home.

Sudie Clark Lott
SALUDA — Sudie Clark Lott, 92, of 115 Cedar St., widow of Albert Lot, died Saturday, May 31, 2003 at her home.
Born in Saluda County, she was a daughter of the late Wesley and Annie Minyard Clark. She was a member of Progressive Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ, the Women Home Aide Society and Satterwhite-Brown OES Chapter No. 26.
Survivors include three sons, Eugene Lott, Johnny Mack Lott and Benjamin Lott, all of Saluda; three daughters, Mrs. Charlie (Mattie Bess) Harp, Mrs. Wilbert (Annie Margaret) Young and Patricia Bates, all of Saluda; 19 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
Services are 2 p.m. Thursday at Progressive Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ conducted by Elder Henry Watson. Burial is in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers are grandsons; honorary pallbearers are members of Pearl Chapel Masonic Lodge.
Flower bearers are granddaughters; honorary flower bearers are members of Satterwhite-Browns OES No. 26.
Viewing is 12-9 p.m. today at Butler & Sons Funeral Home.

Myrtle Lyle
Myrtle Sexton Lyle, 73 of 208 Sherwood Drive, wife of Jack L. Lyle, died Tuesday, June 3, 2003 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of the late Fred and Elizabeth Etheridge Sexton. She was a graduate of Greenwood High School and retired from Greenwood Mills Information Center. A member of Laurel Baptist Church and the Fellowship Sunday School Class of the church, she was also a member of the Greenwood Mills Quarter Century Club.
Survivors include her husband of the home; a daughter, Jackie L. McDaniel of Greenwood; a sister Eleanor S. Bagwell of Ware Shoals; and a grandson.
Services are 3 p.m. Thursday at Blyth Funeral Home, conducted by the Revs. Todd Johnson and Billy Huff. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are Jimmy Sexton, Freddie Sexton, Mike Marler, Andy Lyle, Ernie Ouzts and Kyle Morse. Visitation is 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.

Marilyn J. McGrier
Marilyn Jean Jones McGrier, 50, of 230 E. Cambridge, Apt. 115, died Sunday, June 1, 2003 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Greenwood, she was a daughter of Bennie Jones and Emmie Goode Jones. She retired as a dietitian with Greenwood School District 50 in 1992 and was a member of Cokesbury Baptist Church.
Survivors include her parents, both of Greenwood; four sisters, Bennie Mae Parks and Willie Mae Latimer, both of Greenwood, Brenda J. Hill of Hodges and Linda J. Anderson of Columbia; and a brother, Clyde T. Jones of Greenwood.
Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at Old Mount Zion Baptist Church, Epworth, conducted by the Rev. Emanuel Spearman, assisted by the Rev. Lee Ruth Cook. The body will be placed in the church at 10. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers are nephews and cousins.
Flower bearers are nieces and cousins.
There will be no public viewing.
The family is at the home of her mother, 526 Valley Brook Road.

Bill Nickles
William S. “Bill” Nickles, 72, of 421 Stevens Ave., died Monday, June 2, 2003 at his home.
Born in Greenwood County, he was a son of the late William McKnight and Mellie Taylor Nickles. He retired from Greenwood Mills, Mathews Plant, where he was a member of the Quarter Century Club. He was a member and past master of Mathews Lodge 358 A.F.M. and a Hejaz Temple Shriner, serving on the Clown and Hillbilly Unit. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include three sisters, Elizabeth Norman, Miriam Smith and Dorothy Ann Black, all of Greenwood and a brother, Junior L. Nickles of Greenwood.
Services are 2 p.m. today at Harley Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Craig Hughes. Burial, with Masonic rites, is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are Tommy Nickles, Scott Nickles, Todd Smith, Britt Smith, Tim Norman, Mike Norman, Richard Davenport, Richard Turnage and Ty Johnson.
Honorary escorts are J. D. Smith, Rudolph Horne, James Ray Dodgen, Jimmy Banks and Jean Hunter. Family members are at their respective homes.

Born in Taylorsville, N.C., she was a daughter of the late Franklin Alexander and Mamie Frances Ingram Adams. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church and a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband of the home; a son, David Harold Richardson of Ludington, Mich.; a sister, Beulah Mae Teague of Troutman, N.C.; a brother, James Adams of Hickory, N.C.; two grandchildren.
Services are 2 p.m. Thursday at Harris Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. James Long. Burial is in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
