Paul Burgess
GREENWOOD — Paul Andrew Burgess, 95, widower of Evelyn Conolly Burgess, died August 10, 2003 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Pacolet, SC January 26, 1908, he was a son of Thomas Martin and Sara “Sallie” George Burgess and attended Wofford College. Mr. Burgess joined Greenwood Mills in 1937 where he held several positions and retired as Vice President of Finance in 1974. He served on the Board of Directors for Greenwood Mills Inc. He was a member of the state and local Chamber of Commerce, member of the Greenwood Lions Club where he was past president and former director, past director of the Greenwood Chest, now the United Way.
Mr. Burgess was a member of First Baptist Church, the Baracca Sunday School Class, Sunday School Superintendent, Church Treasurer and was a member of the Board of Deacons.
Surviving is a daughter, Mrs. Robert F. (Joann) Stevenson of Greenwood; a daughter-in-law, Carol N. Burgess of Greenwood; one sister, Mrs. Lamar (Ruth) Knox of Spartanburg; six grandchildren, Robert Gregory Stevenson, Sr., Michael Andrew Stevenson, and Lynn Stevenson Waldron, all of Greenwood, Marl Conolly Burgess of Fort Mill, Christopher Norman Burgess of Columbus, Oh, and Stephen Eric Burgess of Columbia; one great-granddaughter and four great-grandsons.
He was predeceased by a son Paul Conolly Burgess.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:30 PM Tuesday at First Baptist Church with Dr. Tony Hopkins and Rev. Kenney Standley officiating.
Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Robert Gregory Stevenson, Sr., Michael Andrew Stevenson, Mark Conolly Burgess, Christopher Norman Burgess, Stephen Eric Burgess and Bret Ty Waldron.
Honorary escorts will be members of the Baracca Sunday School Class of the church along with Lewis Harrison, Dr. and Mrs. Ennis James and Dorothy Bernini.
The family will be at the home of his daughter, 106 E. Forest Drive in E. Timberlake and will receive friends in the church parlor from 2:30 to 3:30 before the service.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, 722 Grace Street, Greenwood, SC, 29649 or to the charity of one’s choice.

Page Davis
Eugene Page Davis, 88, of 925 Woodlawn Road, widower of Lena Cogburn Davis, died Aug. 9, 2003 at his home.
Born in Greenwood County, he was a son of the late James Henry and Minnie Lee Hinton Davis. He was a graduate of Greenwood High School and retired in 1983 from Greenwood Coca Cola Bottling Company after 48 years of service. He was a member of Tranquil United Methodist Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Bobbie D. Traynham, N. June Trotman and Ann D. Tharpe, all of Greenwood; a son, James “Bubba” Davis of Greenwood; a brother, J. Roscoe Davis of Greenwood; a sister, Nellie D. McCombs of Greenwood; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Services are at 11 Tuesday at Blyth Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. James F. Patterson. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are Stephen Trotman, Tripp Tharpe, Michael Trotman, Bill Traynham, Jacob Traynham, James Traynham, Michael Traynham and Ryan Trotman.
Visitation is from 6:30-8 tonight at the funeral home.
The family is at the home.

Nell Faulkner
GREENWOOD — Nell Baker Faulkner, 71, resident of 113 Sylvan Road, wife of Ray A. Faulkner, died August 9, 2003 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Newberry County, October 3, 1931, she was a daughter of the late Ernest and Minnie Bishop Baker. She was a graduate of Whitmire High School and was retired from Monsanto as a Lab Technician. She was a member of Jordan Memorial Baptist Church, the Mary Ouzts Sunday School Class of the church and was a member of the Star Fort Ladies Association.
Surviving in addition to her husband of the home are two daughters and sons-in-law, Gail W. and Jesse Folk of Newberry and Tammy W. and Trey McHale of Kingwood, TX; a step-daughter, Debra Bryant of Macon, GA and step-son, John T. Faulkner of Greenville; grandchildren, April Kerhoulas, Heather Garrison, Stacy Senn, Kelly Gamble and Jess Folk; great-grandchildren George R. Kerhoulas, Ian Kerhoulas, Spencer Anderson, Jayla Lewis, Michael Garrison, Jesse Gamble and Brooke Summey.
Mrs. Faulkner was predeceased by a daughter Diane W. Gaffney.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 PM Tuesday from the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robert Patton and Rev. Billy Huff officiating.
Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Bill Hart, Brad Marrett, Ray Pardue, Jesse L. Folk, James Lamar Beal and Irby Raines.
Honorary escort will be members of the Baracca Sunday School Class of Jordan Memorial Baptist Church.
The family is at the home of Kenny Anderson and April Kerhoulas, 202 Kimberly Lane and will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 9 Monday evening.

Susie Mae Mitchell
EDGEFIELD — Susie Mae Phillips Mitchell, of 66 Faulkner Mountain Road, wife of Luther Mitchell Sr., died Friday, Aug. 8, 2003 at Edgefield Healthcare.
Born in Edgefield County, she was a daughter of the late John and Janie Lou Holloway Phillips. She was a member of Flint Hill Missionary Baptist Church, Greenwood County, where she was a deaconess and member of the missionary. A homemaker, she was a member of the Women Home Aide Society No. 126.
Survivors include her husband of Edgefield; four sons, Arthur Phillips of Nashville, Tenn., Luther Mitchell Jr. of Edgefield, Charlie B. Mitchell of Washington , D.C., and James Eddie Mitchell of Bladenburg, Md.; four daughters, Annie L. Young of Greenwood, Mary Emma Graham, Dorise Mitchell and Claudine Mitchell, all of Washington , D.C.; a brother, Eddie B. Phillips of Greenwood; three sisters, Annie P. Robinson of Raleigh, N.C., Ida Mae Gilchrist and Ada Mae Mathis, both of Greenwood; a grandson reared in the home, Thomas K. Brown of Columbia; 30 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren.
Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at Flint Hill Missionary Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. John R. Brightharp, pastor. The body will be placed in the church at 1. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers are grandsons, and flower bearers are granddaughters.
The family is at the home.

CAPITAL HEIGHTS, Md. — Services for Kendra Benita Quarles are at 1 Wednesday at the Shiloh A.M.E. Church in McCormick, S.C., conduced by the Rev. Carey Grady. Burial is in the church cemetery. The body is at Walker Funeral Home, McCormick.
Pallbearers and flower bearers are friends of the family.
The family is at the home of her grandmother, Janie Searles, Cedar Hill Road, McCormick and an aunt, the Rev. Vivian Edwards, 104 Broken Ridge Court, Greenwood, S.C.

Alton Attaway
Alton C. Attaway, 61, of 2903 Highway 25 S., died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2003 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Greenwood, he was a son of Andrew Carrol and Louise Coursey Attaway. He retired from Attaway Builders and served in the Army Reserves.
Survivors include his parents, with whom he made his home; four sons, Talmadge C. Attaway of Greenwood, John Alton Attaway of Hodges, Jesse Alton Attaway of Callison and Phillip Attaway of Columbia; a daughter, Brenda A. Day of Columbia; two sisters, Carolyn A. Tullis of Greenwood and Pollie A. Buff of West Columbia; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services are 2:30 p.m. Friday at Harley Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Phillip Morris. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are Dennis Cook, Andrew Cook, Flynn West, Claude Coursey, Rodney Ouzts and Rick Butler. Visitation is 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.
The family is at the home of his parents, Louise and Carrol Attaway, 2903 Highway 25 S.

Arthur Brunson Jr.
SALUDA — Arthur Brunson Jr. died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2003 at Saluda Nursing Home.
Born in Greenwood County, he was a son of the late Arthur Brunson Sr. and Josephine Dimmie Brunson. He was of the Holiness faith, a Korean War veteran and a former employee of Mayflower Moving Co.
Survivors include his wife, Annie M. Brunson of Seaboard, N.C.; a son, Arthur Brunson III of Dumfries, Va.; a daughter, Sarah Brunson of Durham, N.C.; two brothers, Rufus Brunson of Greenwood and B.F. Brunson of Washington , D.C.; a sister, Gladys Holloway of Ninety Six; two grandchildren.
The family is at the home of his sister, Gladys Holloway, 128 Joseph Road, Ninety Six.
Services will be announced by Percival-Tompkins Funeral Home, Greenwood.

Gordon E. Burch Sr.
AUGUSTA, Ga. — Gordon E. Burch Sr., 74, husband of Barbara H. Burch, died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2003.
A native of Harlem, he had lived in the Augusta area since 1941. He was in charge of maintenance at Gracewood State School and Hospital and retired after 24 and one-half years of service. He also worked with 7-Up Co. for 25 years and served in the Army for 2 years. Known as “Santa Claus” at the area church, fire department and schools, he was past president of CB Club No. 34.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Linda Lewis of Augusta; two stepdaughters, Mary Alice Jarvis of North Augusta, S.C., and Maxinne McCleese of Greenwood, S.C.; a son, Gordon E. Burch Jr. of Greer, S.C.; two stepsons, Gary Melton of Martinez and Joe Billy Wood of Charlotte, N.C.; a sister, Leona Andrews of Cayce, S.C.; five grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and eight step-great-grandchildren.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church of Gracewood, conducted by the Revs. Darien Spivey, Billy Lassiter and Stephen Jones. Burial is in Sunset Memory Gardens, Langley, S.C. Pallbearers are Bobby Williams, Sid Randall, Tim McCleese, Robert Richards and David Bryant.
Honorary pallbearers are the men of the church.
Visitation is 7-9 tonight at Thomas Poteet & Son.

Susan Potter Davis
NINETY SIX — Susan Potter Davis, 71, of 333 Little Mountain Road, widow of Al Davis, died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2003 at Self Regional Medical Center in Greenwood.
Born in Sparta, Ga., she was a daughter of the late Wilbur Potter and Beauty D. Williams. She was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church and a retired bookkeeper.
Survivors include a son, Al Davis Jr. of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two daughters, Linda Davis-Ore of Manhattan, N.Y., and Yvonne Levingston of Savannah, Ga.; four sisters, Dorothy Mae Butts of Brooklyn, Ruth Parker of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Carolyn Williams of Ninety Six and Lavena Ann Williams of Greenwood; two grandchildren of the home, Tithanie Levingston and Thomas Levingston; 10 other grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.
The family is at the home.
Services will be announced by Robinson & Son Mortuary Inc., Greenwood.

Imogene W. Douglas
McCORMICK — Imogene Waller Douglas, 71, wife of Therrell A. Douglas, died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2003 at Self Regional Medical Center, Greenwood.
Born in Uvalda, Ga., she was a daughter of the late George Dewey and Clara Mamie McCoy Waller. She retired from Hardee’s in Charleston and was a member of McCormick First Baptist Church and the Genesis Sunday School Class.
Survivors include her husband of the home; a son, Gerald Douglas of Charleston; a sister, Clarece Hardage of Jacksonville, Fla., and a brother, J.D. Waller of Darien, Ga.
Services are 10 a.m. Friday at McCormick First Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Dennis G. Lynn. Burial is 3:30 p.m. Friday at Live Oak Memorial Gardens, Charleston.
Visitation is 7-9 tonight at Harley Funeral Home, Greenwood.
Memorials may be made to the McCormick First Baptist Church building fund, P.O. Box 416, McCormick, SC 29835.

Dr. Beth McCutcheon
GREENWOOD — Dr. Beth Anne McCutcheon, resident of 118 Oxford Road, died August 20, 2003 at Self Regional Health Care.
She was born in Lockhart, February 12, 1934, daughter of the late Harry Preston and Mamie Rogers McCutcheon.
Dr. McCutcheon was a clinical psychologist in private practice in the Historic District of Columbus, GA.
She graduated from Lockhart High School in 1951 as Salutatorian.
She received her BA Degree from the University of North Carolina, Masters Degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and Ph.D with honors, from the University of Georgia. She was Director and Founder of the Infant Development Center at Breneau College in Gainesville, GA. She also practiced at hospitals in St. Petersburg, FL, and Columbus, GA.
Dr. McCutcheon retired to Greenwood in 1997, with the help of her niece Gemmye Anne McCutcheon and her sons, Scott, Keith and Kyle, and nephews, Ronnie, Chan, and Joey McCutcheon.
Surviving are a great nephew, Scott Kwarsick of the home, brother and sister-in-law, Gem and Louise McCutcheon of Lockhart, a sister Joye M. Jones of Gainesville, GA, a brother and sister-in-law Preston and Nellie McCutcheon of Union, many nieces and nephews, and long time friends, Charles E. White, Richard and Barbara Judice, goddaughter Elizabeth.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Saturday at the Holcomb Funeral Home Chapel with nephew, Dr. Don L. McCutcheon officiating.
Burial will follow in Union Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Chan, Joey, Sr., Joey, Jr., and James McCutcheon, Richard Harris and Richard Judice.
The family is at their respective homes and will receive friends Saturday, 12 noon until 2:00pm at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Bowers-Rodgers Home, PO Box 1252, Greenwood, SC 29648-0006.
