McCORMICK — Glenda M. “Glenn” Searles, 45, died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2003 at Self Regional Medical Center in Greenwood.
Born in McCormick, she was a daughter of the late Clyde and Hazel Briggs Martin. She was a 1977 graduate of McCormick High School, a member of Bethany Baptist Church and a homemaker.
Survivors include a companion, Robert Moore of the home; two adopted sons, Arentha J. Martin and Tracey L. Martin, both of McCormick; an adopted stepson, Marcus Tennant of McCormick; four sisters, Mrs. John (Hazel F.) Green of Columbia, Mrs. Jesse (Dolly B.) Anderson of Greenwood, Mrs. Floyd (Linda M.) Freeman and Teresa K. Martin of McCormick; two brothers, Jimmy Martin of Greenwood and James A. Martin of McCormick.
The family is at the home, 6 Tolbert Road.
Services will be announced by Walker Funeral Home.

Paul W. Tucker
Paul Winford Tucker, 56, husband of Nettie Sue Alexander Tucker, died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2003 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Greenwood, he was a son of the late Thomas and Bessie Lee Bryant Tucker. He was a 1966 graduate of Greenwood High School and retired from Greenwood Mills, Mathews Plant, where he was a member of the Quarter Century Club. He was a member of Callie Self Memorial Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of the home; a sister, Emma Lou Lowe of Greenwood and a brother, Richard T. Tucker of Greenwood.
A memorial service is 2 p.m. Saturday at Callie Self Memorial Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Leland S. Scott.
Visitation is 1-2 Saturday in the church parlor.
Family members are at their respective homes.

Anita Zeigler
Anita Arnold Zeigler, 59, of 507 E. Henrietta Ave., wife of Thomas Hugh Zeigler, died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2003 at her home.
Born in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of Louise Taylor Arnold and the late Clarence G. Arnold. She was a graduate of Greenwood High School and attended Randolph Macon College in Lynchburg, Va., and Lander College. An interior designer, she was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband and mother of the home; a brother, Dr. Andy T. Arnold of Mount Pleasant; three stepsons, Brian Zeigler, Michael Zeigler and Greg Zeigler; a step-granddaughter.
Services are 2 p.m. Friday at Main Street United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Patti Griffith-Fallaw. Burial is in Edgewood Cemetery.
Pallbearers are W.A. Barnette III, Evans T. Barnette, Taylor Smith, Andy G. Arnold, Joel Tinsley, Robert Tinsley, Bill Tinsley, James B. Moore, Porter Barron, John Gwinn and Dave Free.
Visitation is 7-8:30 tonight at the home.
Memorials may be made to Main Street United Methodist Church Backyard Bible Club, 211 N. Main St., Greenwood, SC 29646.

Betty Burden
CALHOUN FALLS — Betty Jordan Burden, 72, of 526 Jackson St., wife of Charles Burden, died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2003 at Aiken Regional Hospital.
Born in Abbeville County, she was a daughter of the late Steven Ace and Alice Roper Jordan. She was a homemaker and a member of Calhoun Falls Church of God.
Survivors include her husband of the home; three sons, Charles “Mike” Burden of Anderson, Stanley Burden of Calhoun Falls and Tommy Burden of Goose Creek; four sisters, Frances Sharpe and Barbara Fleming of Anderson, Agnes Crocker of Ware Shoals and Brenda Campbell of Calhoun Falls; four grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday at Calhoun Falls Funeral Home, conducted by the Revs. Sidney Tedder and Johnny Waller. Burial is in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Abbeville.
Visitation is 10-11 Friday at the funeral home.
The family is at the home.

Joseph Hinton
GAINESVILLE, GA — Joseph Herman Hinton, 72, resident of Evergreen Trail, husband of Geraldine Bland Hinton died September 2, 2003 at Georgia Medical Center.
Born in Greenwood, SC, he was a son of the late Joe H and Jenelle Hair Hinton. He was a US Navy Veteran, and was retired from Winn-Dixie Grocery Stores and was the owner of Tom’s Minit Stop.
Mr. Hinton was a member of Riverbend Baptist Church and the Fellowship Sunday School Class. He was also a past Commander and member of the American Legion and a past Chief DE RDE 40 & 8 Voiture 1317 Gainesville.
Surviving in addition of his wife of the home, are a son, Barry Charles Hinton of Gainesville; a grandson, Andrew Thomas Hinton and daughter-in-law, Lauren C. Hinton, both of Dawsonville; nephews, Joe Richard Hinton of Greenwood, David Wayne Williams of Aiken, Lynn Williams of Daytona Beach, FL; aunts, Dorothy H. Smith and Jessie Hair, both of Greenwood; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Sara Bland and Bill Mitchum.
Funeral services will be conducted 1pm Friday at the Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Vernon Grimes and Dr. Bucky Kennedy officiating.
Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 Thursday at the funeral home.

Walter Dean “Red” McKinney, 68, of Woodland Mobile Home Park, Lot 22, husband of Edith Bennett McKinney, died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2003 at Self Regional Medical Center.
The family is at the home of a son, Ronnie McKinney, 2405 Highway 246 S., Ninety Six.
Services will be announced by Blyth Funeral Home.

James Lloyd Parks Jr.
James Lloyd Parks Jr., 73, of 209 N. Hospital St., died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2003 at his home.
Born in Greenville, he was a son of the late James Lloyd Parks Sr. and Julia Arnold Parks. He was of the Baptist faith. A veteran of the Army, he was a licensed funeral director.
Survivors include a daughter, Rep. Julia Anne Parks of Greenwood; a sister, Jacqueline Parks Cole of Columbia; and a brother, Marshall H. Parks of Columbia.
Services are at noon Friday at Second Mount Moriah Baptist Church, with the Rev. E.L. Cain officiating and the Rev. Raymond Adams presiding. Assisting are the Revs. Rickey Syndab, Michael Butler and Norris Turner.
Visitation is at 519 Hackett Ave. and at Parks Funeral Home.
Parks Funeral Home is in charge.

Robert Butler
SALUDA — Robert Butler, 89, of 305 N. Bouknight Ferry Road, widower of Catherine Lark Butler, died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2003 at Self Regional Medical Center in Greenwood.
Born in Saluda County, he was a son of the late Henry and Emma Mobley Butler. He was a member of Mount Enon Baptist Church, where he was leader of the Senior Choir and a deacon. Owner of Butler & Sons Funeral Home and a retired funeral director, he was a member of Upper Savannah Council, Saluda Historical Society, Saluda Branch of NAACP, Pearl Chapel Masonic Lodge, Sons of Aide, Mine Creek Burial Aide Society and Pleasant Lane Burial Aide Society.
Survivors include a sister, Annie B. Harper of Columbia and a nephew reared in the home, Warren Butler of Saluda.
Services are 1 p.m. Saturday at Mount Enon Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Johnny C. Gantt, pastor. Assisting are Thurmond Bowen and the Revs. Raymond Adams and Nikita Canty. The body will be placed in the church at 12. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers are church deacons and trustees.
Flower bearers are family and friends.

Debbie Johnson
Debbie Stamps Johnson, 50, of 1216-C Highway 34, wife of John L. “Johnny” Johnson, died Thursday, Sept. 4, 2003 at her home.
Born in Abbeville County, she was a daughter of the late Paul and Mary Louise Leamon Stamps. She was a retired textile employee with Abbeville Shirt Plant and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her husband of the home; a daughter, Carla C. Ashley of Ware Shoals; a son, Adam Purser of Watertown, N.Y.; a brother, Johnny Stamps of Abbeville; a sister, Becky Loftis of Abbeville; and four grandchildren.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at The Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home, conducted by Bobby Ray Fisher. Burial is in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Abbeville.
Visitation is 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.
The family is at the home of Mr. & Mrs. Gerald Johnson, 869 Old Abbeville Highway, Abbeville, and the home of Becky Loftis, 1004 N. Main St., Abbeville.

Dean McKinney
GREENWOOD — Walter Dean "Red" McKinney, 68, resident of Woodlands Mobile Home Park, Lot #22, husband of Edith Bennett McKinney, died September 3, 2003, at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Marion, NC, October 2, 1934, he was the son of Atlas Edwards McKinney and the late Lester Doc "German" McKinney. He was a graduate of East Marion High School and was a US Marine Veteran.
Mr. McKinney retired from Capsugel and was presently employed with Security Forces as a Security Guard. He was also a member of Star Fort Golf Club in Ninety Six.
Surviving in addition to his wife of the home and his mother of Morganton, NC is a son, Ronnie McKinney of Ninety Six, four daughters, Devonna Gardner of Abbeville, Barbara Freeland of Greenville, Margaret Reedy and Michelle Burton, both of Greenwood. A brother, Rev. Robert McKinney of Wilmington, DE and a sister Wanda Cable of Morganton, NC. Twelve grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Mr. McKinney was predeceased by a brother, Sammy Eugene McKinney of Collins, GA.
Funeral services will be conducted 11am Saturday from the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Danny McCreedy officiating.
Burial will be in Oakbrook Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Allen Freeland, John Reedy, John R. Gardner, Cary Burton, Ricky Lewis and Vernon Allen.
The family is at the home of a son, Ronnie McKinney, 2405 Highway 246 South in Ninety Six, and will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 7 to 9pm.

William White Sr.
McCORMICK — William White Sr., 56, of 11 Molean Lane, husband of Bernice Harrison White, died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2003 at his home.
Born in Edgefield County, he was a son of the late Booker T. White Sr. and Molean Quarles White. He was employed by Georgia-Pacific and was a member of Liberty Spring Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, William White Jr. of Snellville, Ga., and Eric A. White of McCormick; two daughters, Patricia W. Broadwater of Greenwood and Robin Styles of Laurens; four brothers, Otis White, Booker T. White Jr., Henry L. White and Arthur White, all of McCormick; two sisters, Geneva W. Jones of McCormick and Minnie Tompkins of Greenwood; nine grandchildren.
Services are 2 p.m. Sunday at Liberty Spring Baptist Church, Edgefield County, conducted by Minister Roderick Cummings, assisted by the Rev. Johnny Peterson and Pastor Henry Merriweather. The body will be placed in the church at 1. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers are nephews, and flower bearers are nieces.
The family is at the home.

Bob Brochu
Robert Joseph “Bob” Brochu, 80, of 108 Colonial Drive, husband of Marguerite “Peg” G. Brochu, died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2003 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Waltham, Mass., he was a son of the late Leon and Marie Anna LaRochelle Brochu. He was a World War II Merchant Marine veteran and retired from National Grange Mutual Insurance Co. He had lived in Greenwood since 1981. A member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, he was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus and active with Meals on Wheels and The Soup Kitchen.
Survivors include his wife of the home; a daughter, Sandra B. Smith of Greenwood; two sons, Richard R. Brochu of Keene, N.H., and Ronald L. Brochu of Nashua, N.H.; a brother, Roland Brochu of Greenwood; seven grandchildren and a great-grandson.
Services are 11 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, conducted by Father Richard Harris.
Pallbearers are The Knights of Columbus.
Visitation is 7-9 Sunday at Blyth Funeral Home. A Rosary recital is at 6.
The family is at the home in Belle Meade.
Memorials may be made to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church Building Fund, 110 E. Laurel Ave., Greenwood, SC 29649.
