Debra Simms
WATERLOO — Debra Ann E. Simms, 38, of 256 Jack Frost Drive, wife of Mark Simms, died Monday, Oct. 13, 2003 at Laurens County Hospital.
Born in Laurens County, she was a daughter of William “Bill” Edgins and the late Emmie Etheleen McMahan Edgins. She was a member of Waterloo Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband of the home, her father of Ninety Six and a daughter, Jennifer Lynn Simms of the home.
Services are 2 p.m. Thursday at Harley Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. J.B. Abercrombie. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are Clay Cleveland, Clifford Edgins Jr., Larry Latham, Warren Martin, Kenny Southerland and Steve Davis.
Visitation is 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.
The family is at the home of her mother- and father-in-law, Carlton and Naomi Simms, 135 Jack Frost Drive.
Harley Funeral Home, Greenwood, is in charge.

Mary Stark
Mary Elizabeth Stark, 93, of 526 Haltiwanger Road, widow of James M. Stark, died Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003 at her home.
A native of Hart County, Ky., she was a member of Severns Valley Baptist Church. She worked in the school cafeteria at Elizabethtown High School.
Survivors include a son, James Harold Stark of Greenwood, two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were Monday in Hardin Memorial Park, Elizabethtown, Ky.

Nell Urquhart
Nell Bankston Urquhart, 87, of 104 Deer Run Lane, widow of Daniel W. Urquhart, died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2003 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Services will be announced by Blyth Funeral Home.

Bobbie J. Williams
Bobbie Jean Williams, 68, of 214 Crawford St., widow of Sammie Chappell Sr., died Monday, Oct. 13, 2003 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of the late Golden Smith Harling and James Harling. She was a member of Holy Spring Baptist Church and the Women Home Aide Society No. 98.
Survivors include six sons, Lovota Williams and Sammie Chappells, both of the home, Howard Williams Jr., Jerry Williams and Daniel Williams, all of Greenwood and Darryl Williams of Honea Path; five daughters, Betty Dansby of Hodges, Eva Mae Washington , Patricia Benjamin, Robbie Lynn Williams and Bridgette Williams, all of Greenwood; five brothers, James Harling, Marion Harling and Joshua Harling, all of Hodges, Julian Harling and L.T. Harling, both of Greenwood; 36 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
The family is at the home.
Services will be announced by Percival-Tompkins Funeral Home.

David Coleman
BRADLEY — David R. Coleman Sr., 70, of 906 County Line Road, died Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2003 at his home. Born in Bradley, he was a son of the late Robert Carl and Ida Mae Crowder Coleman. He retired from the Forestry Department of Greenwood Mills, where he was a member of Quarter Century Club. He served on the Forestry Commission Board and the Beef Producers Board. He was a former member of Ducks Unlimited and S.C. Waterfowl Association and a member of Trinity Baptist Tabernacle. Survivors include two daughters, Shae Brewer of Bradley and Paige Coleman of Greenwood; a son, David R. “Little David” Coleman Jr. of Greenwood; two sisters, Elizabeth Watson and Margaret Wiley Phillips, both of Bradley; and two grandchildren. Services are at noon Friday at Harley Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Randy Ouzts. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers are Steve Coleman, Butch Cobb, Harry Metts, Danny Allen, Robert Cockrell, Billy Watson, Ebie Grier, Don Going and Smith Steifle. Honorary escorts are the men of Trinity Baptist Tabernacle along with Gene Ouzts, Gene Gambrell, Eddie Byrd, Phil Connell, Bubber Free, Mat Self, Don Robinson, Bill Hughes and Bob Haynie. Visitation is 10:30-11:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. The family is at the home of Perry Coleman, 1114 McCormick Highway, Greenwood. Harley Funeral Home, Greenwood, is in charge.

Ruth C. Hannah
WARE SHOALS — Ruth Cook Hannah, 89, formerly of Ware Shoals, widow of George Waymon Hannah, died Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2003 at McCormick Health Care. Born in Laurens County, she was a daughter of the late William Chesley and Nancy Carolyn Traynham Cook. She was a member of Ware Shoals First Presbyterian Church. Survivors include a son, David Hannah of Greenwood; two grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren. Services are 3 p.m. Friday at Parker-White Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Wayne Wicker. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers are Chad Hannah, Tyler Hannah, Bob Greenway, Harold Cook, Bill Richey, Charles Floyd and Bob McKee. Visitation is 2-3 Friday at the funeral home. The family is at her son’s home, 104 Kensington Drive, Greenwood. Memorials may be made to the Emerald Center or to The Ware Shoals Presbyterian Church. Parker-White Funeral Home is in charge. Randy Harbin John Randall Harbin, 55, of 2322 Old Laurens Road, husband of Patty Valentine Harbin, died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2003 at Self Regional Medical Center. Visitation is 6-8 Friday at Harley Funeral Home. The family is at the home. Services will be announced by Harley Funeral Home.

Sadie Irving Harris
GREENVILLE — Sadie Irving Harris, widow of Lenton Irving and Alonzo Harris, died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2003 at Magnolia Place Nursing Home. Born in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of the late Charlie and Annie Nix. Survivors include three sons, Moses Nix of Greenwood, Bobby Irving and John Irving, both of Greenville; four daughters, Annie R. Blocker of Greenwood, Linda Davis, Julia Perkins and Mary Warren, all of Greenville; a brother, John C. Nix of Abbeville; two sisters, Laura Davis of Greenwood and Delois Pack of Maysville; 28 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren. Services are 2 p.m. Friday at Watkins-Garrett-Woods Mortuary. Sibbie F. Kinard
CLINTON — Sibbie Ferguson Kinard, 78, wife of George Kinard, died Monday, Oct. 13, 2003 at Laurens County Hospital. Born in Clinton, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Lucile Ferguson Kinard. She was educated in Laurens County schools and was a member of Hebron Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband of the home; two daughters, Georgia Kinard Williams of Clinton and Mrs. John Henry (Sallie Kinard) Byrd of Clinton; a son, John Kinard of Union; a sister, Mattie Mae Shelton of Clinton; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Graveside services are 2 p.m. Friday in Rosemont Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Anthony Sims. Childs Funeral Home is in charge.

Nancy Jean Odom
CHARLESTON — Nancy Jean Odom, 55, wife of Charles “Ken” Odom, died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2003 at a local hospital. Born in Jacksonville, Fla., she was a daughter of Charlotte Travassos and the late Nathaniel Jorge Travassos. She was a graduate of Winthrop College, a member of First Christian Church Disciples of Christ and a master gardener. Survivors include her husband of Charleston; a son, Edward M. Ackerman of Charleston; four stepdaughters; her mother of Jacksonville, Fla.; a sister, Carol Stringer of Jacksonville; and six grandchildren. Memorial services are 3 p.m. Friday at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Memorials may be made to First Christian Church, 1293 Orange Grove Road, Charleston, SC 29407 or the Leukemia Lymphoma Society Inc., S.C. Leon Peterson
WATERLOO — Leon Peterson, 43, of 44 Riverfork Road, Apt. 4, died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2003 at Self Regional Medical Center in Greenwood. Born in Edgefield County, he was a son of Charlie Mason Jr. and the late Florence Peterson Mason. He was a member of Springfield Baptist Church, Edgefield, and was employed by Lee’s Barbecue, Cross Hill. Survivors include his father of Edgefield; two daughters, April Moore of Edgefield and Sandy Denny of Ridge Spring; three brothers, Steven Mason of Greenwood, Ronald Mason and Bernard Mason, both of Edgefield; four sisters, Barbara Williams of Blackville, Mrs. Edward (Tira Mason) Jackson, Sandra Mason and Cynthia Mason, all of Edgefield; three grandchildren. Services are 2 p.m. Saturday at Springfield Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Johnny Peterson, assisted by the Rev. Roderick Cummings. The body will be placed in the church at 1. Burial is in the church cemetery. Pallbearers and flower bearers are friends of the family. Visitation is 6-until Friday at the home of a sister, Cynthia Mason, 462 Highway 378 W., McCormick, Edgefield County. Robinson & Son Mortuary Inc., Greenwood, is in charge.

Ingrid N. Toland
CLINTON — Ingrid Nudine Toland, 39, of 7-A Colony Square Apartments, died Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003 at her home. Born in Laurens County, she was a daughter of Willie David and Ollie Mae Simpson Toland. She graduated from Clinton High School in 1982 and received an associate degree in secretarial science from Rutledge College, Spartanburg, in 1984. She was a member of Fairview A.M.E. Church, Clinton, where she was financial secretary and assisted the Young People’s Division and Youth Choir. She was employed with the Department of Social Services. Survivors include her parents; a daughter, Sasha Cotton and a son, Quadres Cannon, both of Clinton; a sister, Tracy Spearman of Clinton and a brother, Willie David Toland Jr. of Clinton. Services were 2 p.m. Wednesday at Fairview A.M.E. Church. Childs Funeral Home was in charge.

Nell B. Urquhart
GREENWOOD — Nell Bankston Urquhart, 87, resident of 104 Deer Run Lane, died Monday, October 14, 2003 at Self Regional Health Care. Born in Dublin, Georgia, September 3, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Maude Childers Bankston. She attended Dublin Business College. On July 11, 1940, she married Daniel Woodrow Urquhart, who died August 31, 1992. Mrs. Urquhart was a member of the First Baptist Church of Greenwood. She was also a past president and Secretary of the Year of the National Secretaries’ Association. She was a former secretary of Greenwood Mills and Greenwood High School. She and her husband were owners of Urquhart’s Flowers and Evening Star Memorial Gardens. She was survived by one son, Donald Charles Urquhart and his wife Ann Brooks Urquhart of Greenwood; a daughter Constance Ester Urquhart Day, and her husband Gordon F. Day of Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin. Also surviving are five grandchildren: Daniel Brice Urquhart and his wife, Karen of Tampa, Florida, Kristen Ann Urquhart Petrovich and her husband, Juan of Rock Hill, Elizabeth Leslie Day Casey and her husband, Chris of Burnsville, Minnesota, Lindsey Anne Day of Bloomington, Minnesota, and Jason Andrew Cox of Greenwood. Mrs. Urquhart was also survived by two brothers, Mac Bankston of Dublin, Georgia, and Edward Bankston of Chesapeake, Virginia. She was predeceased by a daughter, Janet Rene Urquhart Cox and two sisters. A Cryptside service will be conducted 11:00 am Friday at Greenwood Memorial Gardens Mausoleum with Dr. Tony Hopkins officiating. Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice. The family is at the home of Don and Ann Urquhart, 118 Kings Grant Road, and will receive friends at Blyth Funeral Home from 6-8 pm Thursday. BLYTH FUNERAL HOME IS IN CHARGE OF ARRANGEMENTS.

George H. Watt
ABBEVILLE — George H. Watt, 61, of 842 Jackson Road, husband of Viola Moore Watt, died Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2003 at the VA Medical Center in Augusta, Ga. Born in Abbeville County, he was a son of the late Jack and Julia Robinson Watt. He was an Army veteran and a member of Haigler Street Church of Christ. A graduate of J.S. Wright High School, he was a retired textile employee. Survivors include his wife of the home; five daughters, Connie Coleman, Evelyn Harris, Tynnetta Norman and Wendy Watt, all of Abbeville and Kimberly Watt of Greenwood; two sons, Edgar Moore and Anthony Moore, both of Abbeville; a sister, Josie Terry of Abbeville; two brothers, Howard Watt and Frank Watt, both of Abbeville; 20 grandchildren and a great-grandchild. The family is at the home. Services will be announced by Brown and Walker Funeral Home.

Kenneth Carlberg
TOPTON, N.C. — Kenneth Richard Carlberg, 77, of 77 Cherokee Ave., husband of Dorothy J. Cook Carlberg, died Friday, Oct. 17, 2003 at his home.
Born in Minneapolis, he was a son of the late Carl Ephraim and Anna Wingquist Carlberg. He was an Army veteran serving in the European Theater and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a retired credit manager, a member of Grace Baptist Church, the Lions Club and Rotary Club, all of Andrews, NC.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two daughters, Cynthia Saginario of Largo, Fla. and Deborah Butler of Greenwood; two sisters, Viola Geiter of Redington Shores, Fla. and Marion Paraskewik of Lansdale, Pa.; two brothers, Rev. Earl Carlberg of Jacksonville, Fla. and his twin brother, Kermit Carlberg of Seminole, Fla. and three grandsons.
Services are 11 a.m. Monday at Blyth Funeral Home, conducted by the Revs. Kermit Carlberg and Earl Carlberg.
Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens with military honors.
Pallbearers are Stephen Smith, Jason Saginario, Andrew Saginario, Colan Butler, Robert Saginario and Larry Pinnix.
Visitation is 6-8 tonight at Blyth Funeral Home.
The family is at the home of his daughter, Deborah Butler, 718 Logan Court, Greenwood.
