Leonard Russum
ABBEVILLE — Leonard Adams Russum, 75, of 213 Marshall Ave., husband of Glenda Giles Russum, died Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2003 at Abbeville County Memorial Hospital.
Born in Abbeville County, he was a son of the late Rev. J.W. and Lillie Scott Russum. He was a retired supervisor with Milliken Textiles, with more than 50 years of service. He was a member of Westside Baptist Church and a Sunday School teacher for the Men’s Bible Class.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two daughters, Rhonda R. Callaway of Elberton, Ga., and Shirley Hudson of Ware Shoals; a son, Wayne Patterson of Abbeville; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services are 3 p.m. Friday at Westside Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. James Long and Bill Ellison. Burial is in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers are Matt Herndon, Raymond Morgan, Craig Wharton, Chris Latham, Chris Hudson and Michael Lewis.
Honorary escorts are members of The Men’s Sunday School Class of the church.
Visitation is 6-8 tonight at Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home.
The family is at the home.

Nina Wilkie
PLUM BRANCH — Nina Margaret “Meg” Bracknell Wilkie, 77, resident of Rt. 1, widow of James Russell "J.R." Wilkie died October 21, 2003 at her home.
Born in Plum Branch, she was the daughter and youngest child of the late J. L. and Nina Stilwell Bracknell of Plum Branch. She graduated from McCormick High School and attended Lander College where she served as secretary for her freshman class.
She was a member of Plum Branch Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for a number of years. Mrs. Wilkie formerly served as Officer's President and Secretary of the Tokyo Army Engineers Wives Club. She was also formerly on the Hospitality Committee in Wurtzberg, Germany.
Surviving are five sons, Jack Wilkie of Lexington, Lee Wilkie of McCormick, Steve Wilkie of Anderson, Pat Wilkie of Walhalla and Ted Wilkie of Brigatine, New Jersey. Two sisters, Kate Dorn of McCormick and Jane Schuler of St. Matthews and a grandson formerly of the home Chad Wilkie. Eighteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 3:30 pm at Plum Branch Baptist Church with the Rev. Darrell Engle and Rev. Doug Kauffmann officiating.
Burial will be in Plum Branch Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be nephews.
The family received friends at Plum Branch Baptist Church from 7 to 9 Wednesday evening.
The body will be placed in the church at 2:30 Thursday.

Ruth Williams
Ruth Cartledge Williams, 95, widow of John Carl Williams, died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2003 at National Health Care.
Visitation is 10-11 a.m. Saturday at Blyth Funeral Home.
The family is at the home of her daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Richard, 107 Sheldon Ave.
Services will be announced by Blyth Funeral Home.

Fred W. Mattison Sr.
WARE SHOALS — Fred Woodrow Mattison Sr., 87, of 5731 Poplar Springs Road, died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2003 at Laurens County Hospital.
Born in Honea Path, he was a son of the late James Homer and Lillie Hedden Mattison. He was a World War II veteran of the Army Air Corps and retired from Riegel Textile Corp. He was a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church and the Men’s Sunday School Class of the church. He was twice married, first to the late Beatrice Mitchell Mattison and second to Dorothy Bryant Mattison.
Survivors include a son, Fred W. Mattison Jr. of Belton; a daughter, Frances M. McIntyre of Ware Shoals; a brother, Le Roy Mattison of Ware Shoals; three grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.
Services are 2 p.m. Thursday at Poplar Springs Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. T.T. Faucette and Dr. Marcus Bishop. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers are James Mattison, David Mattison, Jack Benny Mattison, Gerald Mitchell, Jason Davis, Brad Cathcart, Jerry Mattison and Tom Dempsey.
Honorary escorts are members of the Men’s Sunday School Class.
Visitation is 7-9 tonight at Parker-White Funeral Home.
The family is at the home of his daughter, Frances McIntyre, 5703 Poplar Springs Road.

J.T. Miller Sr.
HEPHZIBAH, Ga. — J.T. “James” Miller Sr., 71, of Brown Road, husband of Dahlia Dixon Miller, died Saturday, Oct. 25, 2003 at his home.
Born in Westmoreland, Tenn., he served in the Army for 22 years during the Korean conflict and the Vietnam War. He retired from Deerfield Specialty Papers Co., was a Scottish Rite Mason and was a member of Fleming Lodge No. 718 A.F.M. and Crawford Avenue Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of the home; three sons, Ellis Miller and Allen Miller of Augusta and Jay Miller of Tulsa, Okla.; a sister, Vatrice Hudson of Westmoreland; three grandchildren.
Services are 3 p.m. today at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Hephzibah. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 1-3 today at the church.

Jimmy Quicksey Jr.
Jimmy Quicksey Jr., 71, of Apt. 6, Gilliam Court, died Monday, Oct. 27, 2003 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Anniston, Ala., he was a son of the late Vera Rawls and Jimmy Quicksey Sr. He was a former employee of City of Greenwood Sanitation Department and an Army veteran. A member of Dunham Temple C.M.E. Church, he was a member of the Steward Board and the All Male Chorus and a church custodian.
Survivors include a sister, Francis Cosby of Weaver, Ala.
Memorial services are 5 p.m. Friday at Robinson & Son Mortuary, conducted by the Rev. James McKee.
Graveside services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Hobson Memorial Cemetery, Hobson, Ala., conducted by the Rev. Billy Ray Morgan.
Local family members are at the home of Sabrina Witt, 405 Adrian St.

Theresa Ramey
ABBEVILLE — Theresa Hughes Ramey, 79, formerly of 305 Sunset Drive, widow of Franklin M. Ramey Sr., died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2003 at Abbeville Nursing Home.
Born in Abbeville County, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Carolyn Hugulet Hughes. She was a retired employee of Abbeville Department of Social Services and a member of Gilgal United Methodist Church.
Survivors include four sons, Franklin M. Ramey Jr. and Albert T. Ramey II, both of Abbeville, Joseph H. Ramey of Pati, Thailand and David Todd Ramey of Greenwood; two sisters, Carolyn Murph of Greenwood and Mildred Briganti of Morrisville, Pa.; eight grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.
Services are 2 p.m. Thursday at Gilgal United Methodist Church. Burial is in Long Cane Cemetery.
Visitation is 6-8 tonight at Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home.
The family is at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Ramey Jr., 2188 Stevenson Road.

Ruth Simpson
ABBEVILLE — Ruth New Simpson, 79, formerly of 1008 S. Main St., widow of Guy Simpson, died Monday, Oct. 27, 2003 at Self Regional Medical Center in Greenwood.
Born in Abbeville County, she was a daughter of the late Miller and Clarkie New. She was a retired textile employee with Flexible Technologies and a member of Congregational Holiness Church and the Women’s Sunday School Class of the church.
Survivors include two sons, Randall Simpson of Hickory Knob and Douglas “Skeeter” Simpson of Lake Secession, Abbeville; two daughters, Alane Taylor of Abbeville and Tracy Hutto of Greenwood; a sister, Evelyn White of Anderson; a brother, Darrell New of Abbeville; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild.
Services are 2 p.m. today at Congregational Holiness Church, conducted by the Rev. Tye Sorrow. Burial is in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
Visitation is 1-2 today in the church social hall.
The family is at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Rhett Simpson, 313 Noble Drive, Abbeville and the home of her daughter Tracy Hutto, 634 Cobb Road, Greenwood.

Oscar ‘June’ Sims Jr.
Services for Oscar “June” Sims Jr., of West Byrd Street, are 2 p.m. Friday at Liberty Spring Baptist Church, Edgefield County, conducted by the Rev. Frank Williams. The body will be placed in the church at 1. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers and flower bearers are friends of the family.
Visitation is Thursday evening at the home of a brother, Calvin Sims, 702 Holloway St.

Neil Wideman, Jr.
GREENWOOD — Neil Wideman, Jr., 88, widower of Mamie Brown Wideman, passed away Monday night at the Edgefield County Hospital. Born in McCormick County, he was the son of the late Neil Wideman, Sr. and Marie Wideman. He was a former member of Macedonia Baptist Church and a retired employee of C.Y. Thomason Company and Rowlan Petroleum Company. He was a veteran of WWI.
Surviving are eight sons, Larry (Bay Boy) Wright (Brenda), Richmond, Va., Tommy Wideman (Dorothy), Odell Wideman (Anne), Batesburg, Billy Wideman, Henry Holloway (Sharon), Jimmy Holloway (Shirleen) and Charles Holloway (Mary), all of Saluda and Larry Holloway of Newberry; six daughters, Nealye Wideman-Lee of the home, Ruby W. Boozer (Robert), Nenia Bland (Marshall) all of Greenwood, Elizabeth Robinson (Jerry), Tensie Holloway (Johnny) and Gertrude Hall (Clyde) all of Saluda; 49 grandchildren; 62 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren.
The family is at the home, 827 East Cambridge Avenue.

Betty Anderson
GREENWOOD — Betty Joyce Davis Anderson, 66, of 102 Fourth Street, widow of James Thomas Anderson, died Tuesday, October 28, 2003 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Eastman, GA, she was a daughter of the late James Alvin and Bessie Lou Jones Davis. She was a patient sitter and a former employee of Self Memorial Hospital. She was a member of Panola United Methodist Church and the Kate Holley Sunday School Class.
She was preceded in death by a son, James Michael “Peewee” Anderson.
Surviving are two daughters, Gail Banks of Greenwood and Belinda Tankersley of Cross Hill; her caregiver, Andrew Scott, Jr. of the home; six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at the Harley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Henry Schwarzmann, the Rev. Robert E. Titus and the Rev. Larry Jenkins officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be John Davis, Johnny Anderson, Ricky Scott, Teddy Jordan, Jimmy Brown and Larry Fair.
Honorary escort will be members of the Kate Holley Sunday School Class of Panola United Methodist Church.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m.
The family is at the home of her daughter, Gail Banks, 2102 Highway 221 South.

James H. Coleman Sr.
SALUDA — James Hardy Coleman Sr., 85, of Saluda Nursing Center, widower of Vinnie Lewis Coleman, died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2003.
Born in Saluda County, he was a son of the late Zonnie and Inez Mobley Coleman. He was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, James H. Coleman Jr. of Saluda; three daughters, Alberta Scott of Norristown, Pa., Shirley Etheredge of Saluda and Inez C. Coleman of Irmo; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren.
Services are at noon Saturday at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Clarence Kenner. The body will be placed in the church at 11 a.m. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers are grandsons and friends of the family.
Flower bearers are friends of the family.
The family is at the home of James Jr. and Janice Coleman, 1254 McCormick Highway 378.
