Doug Thompson
ABBEVILLE — Carl Douglas “Doug” Thompson, 82, of 400 Miller St., husband of Francine Campbell Thompson, died Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2003 at Self Regional Medical Center in Greenwood.
Born in Abbeville County, he was a son of the late W.W. and Lillie Huckabee Thompson. He was the retired owner and operator of Doug’s Amoco in Abbeville and, after retiring, worked at Classic Auto Sales. He was a member of Bells United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife of the home; a daughter, Jayne Thompson Hall of Abbeville; a son, Billy Thompson of Abbeville; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services are 2 p.m. Friday at Bells United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Lowry Drennen. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 6-8 tonight at Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home.
The family is at the home.
Memorials may be made to Bells United Methodist Church, Building Fund, 2540 Flat Rock Road, Abbeville, SC 29620.

Raymond Blair Jr.
PLUM BRANCH — Services for Raymond Blair Jr. are 1 p.m. Saturday at Mount Lebanon Baptist Church, Parksville, conducted by the Rev. Melvin Gordon. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Family friends are pallbearers and flower bearers.
The family is at 101 Old Augusta Road, Plum Branch.

Loyde Cantrell
Loyde Estes Cantrell, 91, of 605 Colonial Drive, widower of Grace Stewart Ambrose Cantrell, died Thursday, Nov. 20, 2003 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Visitation is 4-6 Saturday at Harley Funeral Home.
Services will be announced by Harley Funeral Home.

Floyd Carroll
Floyd “Bo” Carroll, 85, of 624 Taggart Ave., husband of Minerva Williams Carroll, died Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2003 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Greenwood, he was a son of the late Will “Jack” and Mozelle Nicholson Carroll. He was a Navy World War II veteran and retired from Chickasaw Processing Co. He was a member and trustee of Mount Olive Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Marvin Carroll of Greenwood and Floyd Carroll Jr. of Broken Arrow, Okla.; a daughter, Hazella Davis of Irvington, N.J.; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild.
Services are 1 p.m. Saturday at Blyth Funeral Home, conducted by the Revs. H.T. Ligon and Andy Robinson. Burial is in Oakbrook Memorial Park.
Pallbearers are the trustees and deacons of Mount Olive Baptist Church.
Flower bearers are church ushers and deaconesses.
The family is at the home.

Drayton H. Collins Jr.
McCORMICK — Drayton Hoyt Collins Jr., 70, of Highway 378 East, widower of Mady Massey “Button” Collins, died Thursday, Nov. 20, 2003 at his home.
A native of McCormick County, he was a Navy veteran. He retired from Milliken and was a member of Caldwell Masonic Lodge No. 182 and Republican United Methodist Church, McCormick.
Survivors include two daughters, Lucinda Deason and Marie Trail, both of McCormick; five sons, Stephen Collins of McCormick, Austin Collins, Ernest Collins, Leon Crook and Lynn Crook, all of Lincolnton, Ga.; a brother, H.B. Collins of McCormick; 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services are 3 p.m. Saturday at Goshen Baptist Church, Lincolnton, conducted by the Revs. Wade Everett and Don Alexander. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers are Bob Collyer, Jacob Deason, Jackie Edmunds, Kenny Fowler, Shane Nelson and Marvin Palmer Sr.
Honorary pallbearers are Lavern Cameron, Gene Jones and Otis McKie.
Visitation is 7-9 tonight at Rees Funeral Home, 195 Peachtree St., Lincolnton, and other times at the home.
Memorials may be made to HospiceCare of the Piedmont, 408 W. Alexander Ave., Greenwood, SC 29646.

Norris O. Crawford Sr.
ABBEVILLE — Norris Odell Crawford Sr., husband of Allie Mae Thomas Crawford, died Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2003 at home after an illness.
Born in Evanston, Ill., he was a son of the late Frank and Lula Mae Pruitt Crawford. He was employed by the City of Abbeville and was a member of Cypress Chapel A.M.E. Church.
Survivors include eight daughters, Sarah Darden, Geraldine Power, Mrs. George (Jeannie R.) Smith, Helen Chiles, Irene Evans, Lula Mae Crawford and Ruby Power, all of Abbeville and Pernice Williams of Florida; five sons, Norris Odell Crawford Jr., Sammie Crawford, Frank Crawford, Eugene Thomas and James Pressley, all of Abbeville; 13 grandchildren, one reared in the home, Stephanie Crawford; 34 great-grandchildren; 49 great-great-grandchildren; and three great-great-great-grandchild.
Services will be announced by Abbeville & White Mortuary.

Roxie Ligon
HODGES — Services for Roxie Ligon, of 5816 Highway 25 N., are 11 a.m. Saturday at Good Hope Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Stanley Haltiwanger, assisted by the Revs. Linda Posley, Amos Harling and Willie Joe Frazer. The body will be placed in the church at 10. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers are nephews and cousins.
Flower bearers are friends of the family.
Visitation is at the home.

Julia McClain
Julia Hamilton McClain, 88, of 104 Overbrook Road, widow of Gilbert Y. McClain, died Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2003 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Buena Vista, Ga., she was a daughter of the late Bennie Rambo and Leonora Adams Hamilton. She was a 1934 graduate of Greenwood High School and retired from Greenwood Mills Mathews Plant No. 1. She was a member of Rice Memorial Baptist Church and the Lydia Sunday School Class of the church.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Jimmy (Frankie) Thompson of Salisbury, N.C., and Mrs. Russ (Debbie) Williams of Kenosha, Wis.; five grandchildren and a great-grandson.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Blyth Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Alvin Hodges. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are Ancel Hamelton Jr., James D. McClain Jr., Bill Culbertson, Jack Smith, Frank Keeter, Gene Turner, Brad Coleman, Haskell Cromer, Gene Ouzts and Donnie Ouzts.
Visitation is 6:30-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Dr. G. Gordon Parkinson, Jr.
DUE WEST, SC — Dr. G. Gordon Parkinson, Jr., 95, professor emeritus of chemistry and retired dean of men at Erskine College, died Thursday, Nov. 20, 2003, in Due West. He was the husband of the late Isabel S. Parkinson and is survived by: Mary (Mrs. Jim) Jenkins of Due West, Sara (Mrs. Marvin) Bigham of Baltimore, Md., and Ruth (Mrs. Daniel Smith) of Lincoln, Va., 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Dr. Parkinson was a native of Due West, where his father served as dean of Erskine Theological Seminary.
He graduated from Erskine College in 1930, where he was an outstanding scholar and athlete, and received his Ph.D. from Columbia University.
Dr. Parkinson was a missionary teacher in Egypt, with his wife, Isabel, and three daughters.
From 1951-74, he served as professor of physics and chemistry and dean of men at Erskine College.
He was an elder in the Due West ARP Church and moderator of the General Synod. He was chairman of the board of Due West Retirement Center, which he helped to establish in 1982.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 23, at Due West ARP Church. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, at the Parkinson Lounge of the Due West Retirement Center.
Memorials may be made to Erskine College, Due West Retirement Center or Due West ARP Church, designated for missions.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday Nov. 21, 2003 at 2:00 PM from Bells United Methodist Church with the Rev. Lowry Drennen officiating. The burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The body is at The Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 til 8:00 PM Thursday evening. The family is at the home 400 Miller St. Abbeville, SC.

ABBEVILLE — Annie Ruth Wilson, 69, of 599 Watts Road, died Thursday, Nov. 20, 2003, at Abbeville County Memorial Hospital.
Services will be announced by The Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home.

Pauline Adams
Pauline Coppinger Adams, 76, of 410 Lupo Drive, wife of James H. “Jim” Adams, died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2003 at her home.
Born in Bristow, Okla., she was a daughter of the late Pete and Dona Collins Coppinger. She retired from J.C. Penney Co. and was a member of Hyde Park Baptist Church and the DAV Auxiliary.
Survivors include her husband of the home; are four sons, Danny Abner of Supply, N.C., Jim Adams Jr. of Charleston, Paul Abner of Oklahoma City and Mike Adams of Greenwood; two daughters, Pam Favro of Manford, Okla., and Angela Adams Davis of Beaumont, Texas ; three sisters, Cleo Smith of Bristow, Okla., Maxine Reasor of Perryton, Texas and Lucille Whitlow of Oklahoma City; a brother, Sham Coppinger; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services are 3 p.m. Wednesday at Hyde Park Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. Tommy Thurston and Mayhew West. The body will be placed in the church at 2. Burial is in Oakbrook Memorial Park.
Pallbearers are John Boney, David Tuck, Ren Davis, Ken Kirk, Robert Riffey and Greg Murray.
Honorary escorts are Dean Goss, Keith Coker, Kay Tuck, Debbie Holder, Dianne Walde, Dean Crout and Barbara Thurston.
Visitation is 7-9 tonight at Blyth Funeral Home.

Herbert Allen
RALEIGH, N.C. — Herbert Lennon Allen, 89, of Mayview Convalescent Center, widower of Margaret Louise Malloy Allen, died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2003 at Mayview.
Born in Greenville County, S.C., he was a son of the late Herbert L. Allen Sr. and Effie Carr Allen. He was a 1931 graduate of Greenwood High School, Greenwood, S.C., and a 1935 graduate of The Citadel. Employed in banking in Greenwood in the late 1930s, he was a World War II Army veteran, serving as a major in the tank battalion and receiving the Silver Star Medal. He retired in 1971 from the Army Civil Service in Fort Knox, Ky., and was a recipient of the Silver Beaver award for his adult leadership in the Boy Scouts of America. He was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church, Elizabethtown, Ky.
Survivors include a son, William M. Allen of Cary, N.C., and two grandchildren.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Blyth Funeral Home, Greenwood, conducted by the Rev. Patricia Griffith-Fallaw. Burial, with military honors, is in Edgewood Cemetery.
Visitation is 10:30-11 Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
